If that's the case then yeah that's good, very similar prices when I made the video though, but price will always change! I hope the drivers get better in the future, AMD did reach out after my video and ask for more information on my problems which I have provided.
Drivers for mobile seems to the weak spot at the moment . Another one is support for Linux ( not necessarily for gaming) on mobile platforms . Somehow AMD needs to push laptop manufacturers for this .

My old Acer V15 always had some heat issues and broke few weeks ago, I wouldn't recommend Acer to anyone as there's way better brands out there in my opinion. I get that it's little cheaper but I think it'd better to invest little more for better laptop.
Jesus Christ the Aussie tech tubers are all phenomenal why? Is there some kind of secret tech illuminati making you guys pump out amazing channels full of great videos? This is so unbelievably complete and thorough. And I'm about to pick up this exact spec model for $400 on eBay certified refurbished from Acer.
Going for under £600 in the UK. I bought this to replace my last Acer work laptop which had an i5-6200u and intel iris 520 graphics. The work I normally need to do on my laptop it breezes through, even running my second display and multiple excel and Access windows open. I'm playing league, Dota, Warframe, and Crossout all to an acceptable standard and Frame rate for me. So all good on such a well priced laptop. And at the moment the i5 with 1050 ti variant is £200 more here which was well outside of my budget.
Just to add mine came with only 8gb ram but a 128gb m.2. SSD which the more expensive intel/Nvidia combo doesn’t get until a lot higher price than the £799 mentioned above.
It may seem like this combo is worse value, but look at those thermals! The Intel/Nvidia combo is thermal throttling city. So you have to consider that too since better thermals means the laptop lives longer.
@@JarrodsTech It doesn't randomly fail, but if you plan to keep your laptop for at least 4 years or so, hotter thermals will decrease the internals' lifespan. I had 2 laptops that thermal throttle like madman, and both of them broke because their internals got fried. I learned my lesson.
i got the i7 8750h + GTX 1060, before tweaking , playing pubg in very low (while on HIgh performance mode) gave me 100 +fps with 97c Degree lol.. after tweakin so much stuff and experienced some crash with throttlestop + msiAfterburner. now its on 140+fps with 72-79c Degrees. :)
@@lewsee5562 How do you know that was the issue? What actually failed to work? My macbook runs at 100c for 6 years 😅 I'm not saying heat isn't an issue, I just think people make more of a deal out of it than needed, and there needs to be proper research done into actual failure rates of components due to heat.

great video Jarrod. I've been waiting for this and it has disappointed me in price and software compatibility issue. I say Ryzen CPU and GPU laptops aren't worth it till they mature.
I bought this laptop at Best Buy yesterday. It did not perform very well out of the box, but once I upgraded the drivers online, it played my favorite game very nicely. I kind of think it should have been ready for running games at an above low settings out of the box, but if I can get it to work, anyone can since I am not tech suavy. The game I play is old, so I was initially disappointed that I could not play it at high settings. Now, after upgrades, plays Direct 11 able games smoothly at very high settings.
I guess it's hard for them to keep them up to date once they ship them from the factory, who knows how long they sit on a shelf somewhere for sale before being sold. Good to hear it's going well now!

Comparing an Amd U processor with an Intel H is unfair. It should be the 2500U vs 8250U as far as the price is concerned. BTW Great video. Your efforts shine in it.
I've been using this for a year now and seems the bios and driver updates improved the experience so far, especially when upgraded to m2 sata ssd and bumped memory to 8GBx2 ram.
If you want t I buy this laptop get the Intel/Nvidia config please. The i5 8300h and 1050 ti are far faster than R5 2500u and 560x. I don't know if the AMD version is cheaper but if it is then I would suggest sacrificing storage and Ram on the Intel/Nvidia version to make it around the same cost. And this is coming from an AMD Fan.
Yeah the 1050ti is really on another level than The 560. Would be cool to see a side-by-side comparison. I have a video up of the Intel version of you’re interested in it ✌️ it retails for $799 us but you can find it cheaper if you wait for a sale.
@@JarrodsTech Please add also the charging test on your review, we need also to know the charging speed of every laptop...Just a suggestion.. Thanks dude..
I bought this and had nothing but trouble with it, not sure what it is as I've done diagnostic and also had so called experts look at it and they can't figure out what's wrong with it, I love the design of it and when it does finally sort of work it's OK, I don't use it for gaming, just editing, I've bought a 2Tb M.2 SSD for it so will have everything transferred to that. Oh and I've even put 32gig of Ram in it, tried 6 different types. Still have problems. Might have to just get a new one but will go with Intel next time round. Thanks for the video.
Hi there, good review pal. I actually purchased this for £629 in UK 3 days ago. Absolutely blowing away at how good the performance is. Its my first foray in gaming on pc/laptop properly and this is more than capable. Been playing Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and it runs superb on high. Actually amazes me how far tech had come to be able to play games so well on a laptop and the price is fantastic in my opinion. The screen is quite flimsy I would say that's one thing to watch out for incase you snap it. Had few driver issues but fixed easily. Overall super impressed and highly reccomend this Ryzen version.
I haven't compared the two, they perform similarly from what I've seen, however as the Intel i5 CPU is a fair bit better than the 2550U I think that may give the Intel/Nvidia combination the edge in gaming.
Bought this thing at a pawn shop for 280 dollars. It runs after cleaning it up and a fresh windows install. Even got cyberpunk to run on it decently. It should be noted that this generation of amd gaming hardware makes intel and NVidia look way to good. It works well enough. I didn't have the money to buy a proper new laptop but it will do productivity work and a weekend gaming session.
So hey jarrod i got a question, which one i should get,the acer nitro 5 with i5 gtx1050 4gb ram 1tb hdd or the amd ryzen 5 2500u rx560x 4gb ram 1tb hdd 128ssd,which one i should get??i am more common with intel model but not in amd one..
I'd get the i5/1050, CPU is better as shown, graphics are almost the same though, perhaps a slight edge to the 1050. The HDD will be crap, but you do have the option of changing that in future at least, can't change the CPU/GPU ever without buying a new laptop so generally best to get the best you can.
Im thinking on buying this laptop since my mom accepted it by the price thats on sale on 580$ in best buy, i wish I could know how to upgrade it but im new to this stuff if youre able to make a video for an upgrade i will seriously follow the steps for it. Im still buying it anyways since it looks good and i like this laptop, maybe when i get more money i will buy a better one, Great video man! Im seriously subscribing
Unfortunately I sent the review unit back to Acer after the review was done, so I can't do a dedicated guide on upgrading. The options would basically be changing the drives or adding more memory if it only comes with one stick. Dual channel memory (2x sticks) can help with performance over single channel (1x stock), I have a video showing the differences here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/w-d-xo.html
If you are considering buying this gaming laptop for games like Fortnite. The FPS (Frames Per Second) depends on your settings. You could have one setting on epic and have most of the other medium, low or off. This could achieve 90-100 FPS.
Hey Jarrod, I would like to take a moment here and write something about your presentation. It is just my personal take and I hope you'd find it helpful. First off, the presentation was intense. The panning camera, the quietness, smoothness and stillness of the video (and audio) was professional and clean. You have covered some great distance when it comes to talking about a product, never had I ever seen such an intense review before. It was rigorous. That makes it the strength of your video/presentation. Having said that, the same strength doesn't take long to weigh itself down after a few minutes into the video. The video was like a catalogue being read out and portrayed. As opposed to the art of expression, to keep the audience engaged and informed, to help them understand things better and reach a conclusion by seeing the content from the eyes of creator. Although you've made great efforts to put (possibly) everything under the microscope, but still the element of entertainment was missing there. If only a few corners could be cut here and there, and you could make it sound more interesting, entertaining and engaging. I hope my comment would be taken in a positive way as I intend not to offend anyone. Keep up the great work. Thanks for such an elaborative video.
Thanks for the feedback, not really sure how to go about that though, I want to present all the facts and information that I'd be after if I was looking at buying the machine myself, don't really know how to make that more entertaining, I guess I'll think about it.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for taking it positively Jarrod. See that's the beauty of this platform/community. Sharing and caring. One thing I would suggest is you can try to learn from the great to become greater. Your personal touch was missing. In terms of presentation, I am not to say that I am an expert in it myself, but I am learning these things too (as u might see in my videos), and so I thought of sharing my views/points with you, if they could be of any help. Observe MKBHD for reference. And many others like him. Best wishes.
I bought mine for 576,- it’s a 512gb ssd m.2 I upgraded a extra 8 gb ram to 16gb for 30,- so it runs in dual channel. Also I put a 2tb HD’s for 100,- I spended about 700 In total. I am very pleased. But for some reason wen the laptop is turned of and don’t use it that the battery drains empty without use. I must charge it every month even with the latest bios
Bro test it again as from when I have upgraded the bios to 1.11 and graphic drivers to 23.826.15004 and unparked the CPU the performance is crazy fast as booting is now only taking 20 seconds compared to 50 second frame rates have also improved and did some settings in power management it is performing like a beast but only one question do all laptop become slow when removed from charging?
I can't test it again as it was sent back to Acer after the review unfortunately. Yes, it is normal for a laptop to perform worse on battery power, leave it plugged in for best performance. I will do a video on this topic soon.
I show the temperatures in the video, mine was quite cool with these specs, but I expect the i5 version will get hotter as that is a hot CPU. I cannot answer about the updates unfortunately, the laptop was a review unit so it was sent back to Acer after the review was finished.
Don't buy this fucking version with Ryzen5 RX Radeon model...so fucking slow..makes you feel like turtle on switching from Apps to Apps.. Alt + Tabs makes you feel like forever..
Great review. If anyone would get this laptop now I would do the Intel version. I have that one and it runs alot better. The only thing I changed on my laptop was adding more storage and ram to it. I play gta 5 alot on it with mods and on the highest setting and get 60 fps 95% on the time. Great laptop if your on a budget.
I had a acer nitro 5 with the i5 and 1050 and was a totally different beast. The amd one here is better then the craptops they sell for 300 at the big box but still.
Getting this for xmas, i’m super happy to add more amd products to my life Gonna be a decent mobile blender rig. I will upgrade the ram and storage myself.
Jarrod'sTech it will. Its a huge upgrade over what i have currently, which is a amd a10 5745m laptop which is going onto 5 years old. My orginal plan was to just get a basic 2500u laptop. But the hp one i wanted was 50 bucks more, which made this a no brainer, i know the 1050ti model is likely faster but, i prefer amd only products
Hi jarrod... Finally I've ordered this laptop... Thanks for the reviews... I will share my experience with the laptop after using it for a while with you... BTW just curious, which laptop is your daily driver?
Nice, interested to hear how it goes! I use the gigabyte Aero 15x, although I only really need it when I'm travelling, otherwise at home I use my more powerful PC
Install a second stick of memory. 2 sticks = dual channel, you can see how much of a performance difference this makes in games here: th-cam.com/video/FOtmR4opHzU/w-d-xo.html
Honestly not really sure, hard to accurately compare because the Radeon graphics are always paired with a AMD CPU so that contributes to the difference in games as well, hopefully I can get an Intel/NVIDIA option to compare with
Well I got this last Nov in Amazon sale and mine is without the ssd . But I do have the ssd slot if I want to upgrade ( which I'm seriously considering rn). I play a lot of fps games and also use design softwares and I must say it doesn't disappoint. Especially in this price range. And while I do hope Acer gives updates more frequently and less buggy , the overall experience is quite pleasant. Il be upgrading my ram to 16 gb and add a ssd after which I believe itl be a beast. ( Budget beast). :)
Hi! What's the best laptop, like the best, for less than $700?? I got my 1st job while in school/college & I'm 17. This would be my first laptop & I want to explore video editing, gaming along with a bunch of other specifics. I don't know much about laptops, but I just want something that is super powerful, fast & worth it:) Please give suggestions! I'd really appreciate it (maybe even PC's, which I don't know anything about).
To be honest I haven't tested that many around that price, this is the only one, so it's what I usually end up suggesting when people ask for something at that price point. $700 will unfortunately not get you something super powerful, I consider GTX 1060 graphics and i5-8300H a great combination for playing all modern games at 1080p 60 FPS with high settings, but those kind of specs probably go for more like $900-1000.
@@JarrodsTech Hey, thanks for answering man:) I appreciate the feedback & I think I'm going with the the Acer Nitro 5 that you suggested in my other comment! Keep at it, I love your videos & they're really helpful.
@@JarrodsTech besides. I wasn't exactly enthused about getting a computer with a CPU made by a company that famously bribed OEMs not to use competitor CPUs.
Same man, got a Dell laptop and it crashed on the 6th day. What's worse, they didn't replace it or give me any refunds. They just told me to get it fixed.
@@JarrodsTech I'll tell you my story. I bought a Dell Inspiron less than a year ago. On the sixth day, it crashed...like the hard drive stopped working all of a sudden. I called them up(the store where I bought it from). They told me to come back with the laptop. They had a good look at it and then plainly told me to get it fixed from a service centre. They didn't replace it, and they didn't take it back(even though it couldn't work for a week), just gave me an address and told me to take it there and they'll replace the drive for me. So after waiting for almost two hours, they got it working again, and just to be sure I asked them if the other hardware components (motherboard, monitor etc) won't give me problems like the hard drive did. They told me that it won't. Now technically it's working up till now but for a computer that's got 8 gigabytes of RAM, with 4 gigabytes of dedicated VRAM. It lags like crazy. In my opinion, it never really did get fixed.
@@JarrodsTech TL;DR: Dell laptop crashed on day 6 and didn't get any replacement or refund and had to get it fixed myself. Almost high end specs but lags like shit.
I have the Intel i7 and Nvidia version and for overwatch on Medium and some changes to the settings I was getting 90-100 frames. On Fortnite with changes as well I had it on around medium settings and I got 70-100 frames in game consistently with little tearing though floor is lava was quite hard. Assassins creed Odyssey I have on medium with no shadows and changes to other texture settings that aren’t really needed I also put frame cap to 30 to avoid tearing as I was getting frame drops from 50 to 25. For Farcry New Dawn at low settings it is completely playable and still looks good I put the frame cap at 50 just because I was getting 58 and wanted to avoid tearing. All these games were run at 1080p
I just got my Acer Nitro 5 last week. Everything was just fine until I started playing games yesterday. Granted, the games I play are old, but they didn't encounter problems with my desktop which has an FX-8350 and Radeon HD7770. Thief 1 - Graphics too dark, adjusting gamma does nothing, stuttery. Thief 2 - crashed because I didn't set CPU affinity. Didn't have time to fiddle with it yesterday. This is also my first foray into Windows 10. Nonetheless I don't expect things to be better than Thief 1 because these two games are practically the same in terms of engine and graphics. Thief 3 - mouse cursor is invisible. I remember encountering this issue or something similar a long time ago with my Athlon 64 X2, back in 2009! Can't remember what caused it. Was it the BIOS or drivers? System Shock 2 - can't find a DirectX file. Likely an OS thing. Amnesia is the only game that works ok. Can't say I'm not feeling frustrated. I was very happy with my laptop for about a week but now that I started playing games it doesn't seem so nice anymore. And looking at forum posts there seems to be a lot of folks encountering issues with Ryzen Mobile and AMD seems to be relying on OEMs to release drivers. FYI I'm also using the latest BIOS from Acer. I've yet to install the latest graphics drivers from Acer. AMD doesn't seem to support Ryzen Mobile on their website. What a way to go. I'll try to install newer games and see how it goes. I hope AMD is working to support Ryzen Mobile better.
@@JarrodsTech I just tried installing some newer (but not really new) games. It's Gone Home (because I love the house there) and Stardew Valley. The games run just fine. Will install more games as time allows and update this thread. Thanks, Jarrod, for replying so quickly. And yeah, while I love my Nitro 5 and Ryzen 2500U, I think AMD needs to address their driver issues if they want to win the hearts of more mobile gamers.

Noooooo!!! The newer one has ruined f keys!! Yours are perfectly in a line. Newer version has spaces every four. Also whats up with the touch pad being so far left???? Is there a newer version i can get thwt has standard f key layout?
I honestly don't have any experience with those specific titles, but yes it should be able to run games ok with lower settings. Depending on the price, maybe try find an Intel/Nvidia config which should go a bit better.
The other day I bought this version off eBay, refurbished for about $465 USD. For something that can play most recent games at decent settings, it was something I couldn't pass up.
I've had this laptop with a Ryzen 2500U, 8GB DDR4-2400 (dual channel), Radeon 560X, a 1TB HDD for a month now. My thoughts: 1. Windows 10 doesn't play nice with some games made for Windows 7 and earlier. 2. Some games just don't want to use the 560X even if you set them to 'High Performance' in Windows. AMD should work this out in their next driver for Ryzen Mobile, which they promised to better support starting this year. Apart from those, the laptop is great. The 2500U may not be as fast as the i5 or i7 but in most countries the AMD variant is also significantly cheaper and for most folks Ryzen 5 is plenty fast. I went for the 2500U over the 2700U because the 2700U is just 10% faster and the additional GPU cores probably wouldn't matter because the system is supposed to throw games at the 560X anyway. In a way, it isn't worth the extra coin. Overall, very happy with this laptop despite its flaws. Looks really cool too.
Sounds great. Here we have a model on sale, but only with the good ol' 5400 RPM HDD... Should I try my luck and see if it runs Windows half decent before getting an SSD down the line?
Just bought one on sale at Walmart with a %10 discount(friend is Walmart employee) for $471 total. Going to give it to my son since keeps wanting to play on my Battlestation/Workstation. Hope it does the job lol.

My old Acer V15 always had some heat issues and broke few weeks ago, I wouldn't recommend Acer to anyone as there's way better brands out there in my opinion. I get that it's little cheaper but I think it'd better to invest little more for better laptop.

Sounds like a good upgrade!
Does it though 🤔 there isn't really any statistics on hardware randomly failing for running a bit warmer
Cheers bro

great video Jarrod. I've been waiting for this and it has disappointed me in price and software compatibility issue. I say Ryzen CPU and GPU laptops aren't worth it till they mature.
Thanks! Yeah hopefully as they become more common software support gets better over time 👍
I bought this laptop at Best Buy yesterday.

They seem to be around the same price, I'd like to get that config to compare with this.

Thanks for the video.
cinebench R15
Ryzen 5 2500u = 15 watt
Intel core i5 8300h = 45 watt
Intel core i7 7700hq = 45 watt
Sure, but you can still get the i5 for the same money so why would you knowingly pay a similar amount for less performance?
@@JarrodsTech Well, because the i5 at 45W will run hotter and will draw the battery much faster.
Good to hear it's going well, thanks for sharing your experience with it!
@@JarrodsTech Your welcome, also subbed. ✌️
Wait so what's better the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 or the AMD Radeon rx560?
I haven't compared the two, they perform similarly from what I've seen, however as the Intel i5 CPU is a fair bit better than the 2550U I think that may give the Intel/Nvidia combination the edge in gaming.
Amd
The HDD will be crap, but you do have the option of changing that in future at least, can't change the CPU/GPU ever without buying a new laptop so generally best to get the best you can.
i finished watching the video and bought it :D
Im thinking on buying this laptop since my mom accepted it by the price thats on sale on 580$ in best buy, i wish I could know how to upgrade it but im new to this stuff
if youre able to make a video for an upgrade i will seriously follow the steps for it.
You should look to undervolting, this laptop can get pretty hot. Also take care of its battery.
If you are considering buying this gaming laptop for games like Fortnite. The FPS (Frames Per Second) depends on your settings. You could have one setting on epic and have most of the other medium, low or off. This could achieve 90-100 FPS.
Yes that's correct, and to a great extent what other players nearby are doing.
Hey Jarrod,
I would like to take a moment here and write something about your presentation.
@@JarrodsTech
Thanks for taking it positively Jarrod.

They just told me to get it fixed.
I can relate to this, the accessories are okay but as far as laptops are concerned...in my experience...shit.
What exactly made it "super shit"?

And yeah, while I love my Nitro 5 and Ryzen 2500U, I think AMD needs to address their driver issues if they want to win the hearts of more mobile gamers.
dude! do you even breathe?
top notch review, completed all aspects in 14min
I have this gaming laptop and it’s the best for gaming! I got it on Best Buy for $600 it has an i5 8300- 1050 TI 256GB 8GB of memory
Nice deal, especially for those specs!
bro I have the same laptop .
is that normal to hear a static noise(wired Electricity ) coming from the left side of the keyboard (around the cpu from the back ) and it increase when the laptop is plugged in
I can hear this sound in a quite room or when I put my ear near from the laptop

hei folks, i actually have the i7-8750h with gtx 1060 version, can't lie the price is so much cheaper then the competitor's laptop with the same specs. the first time i use it to play pubg with high performance and very low graphic setting (except for Anti Aliasing, i turned it on Ultra).
yes the fps is really good but the temperature reach 97c Degree.....
so im doing some tweaks with throttlestop and msi Afterburner. the idea is to undervolt the processor. and overclock the Gpu since the Gpu BARELY EVEN TOUCH 63c Degrees!!. after the tweaks i got 146fps with the same graphic setting BUT, the Proccie's temp stays between 72-79c degrees!!!!!
My ThrottleStop setting
Turn On:
Speed Shift -EPP (10)
Speed Step
C1E
Prochot 95c
Max Power
Undervolt Cache and Voltage (press FIVR)
-135
My Afterburner Setting:
Core Clock +160
Memory Clock +500
Hope this help!.
or just buy the i5 8k++ one , performed much better when fighting the temp :)
Sounds like a nice improvement 👍
Hey , is MSI GE758SF good for an portable gaming laptop? For 2256$ or 2011€ I tink is ok
I have a review on the GTX 1070 GE75, not sure about that model yet though, worth checking as most of the information should still be useful.
Noooooo!!! The newer one has ruined f keys!! Yours are perfectly in a line. Newer version has spaces every four. Also whats up with the touch pad being so far left???? Is there a newer version i can get thwt has standard f key layout?
Touchpad needs to be left if you have a numpad for the reasons covered here: jarrods.tech/why-are-laptop-touchpads-on-the-left/
Is this a good first laptop to buy and is it good to play games like minecraft or perfect world?
I honestly don't have any experience with those specific titles, but yes it should be able to run games ok with lower settings. Depending on the price, maybe try find an Intel/Nvidia config which should go a bit better.
Very good review, just missiing the battery review, but, very good work.
Battery is discussed from 5:26
@@JarrodsTech you're right, I didn't pay enough attention (my English comprehension is not very good)
The other day I bought this version off eBay, refurbished for about $465 USD. For something that can play most recent games at decent settings, it was something I couldn't pass up.
Nice deal!
I've had this laptop with a Ryzen 2500U, 8GB DDR4-2400 (dual channel), Radeon 560X, a 1TB HDD for a month now. My thoughts:
Good to hear it's going alright, yeah I had similar issues with games not working properly in high performance :(
Well done!
Thanks!
Sounds great. Here we have a model on sale, but only with the good ol' 5400 RPM HDD... Should I try my luck and see if it runs Windows half decent before getting an SSD down the line?
Might as well, can always upgrade later if needed. I suspect it will be, HDD only in 2019 is rough, but maybe I'm just used to SSD for last 9 years
Thank you! You are a lifesaver
No problem!
I have this laptop, it’s a good solid gaming laptop for the price! Got it for about $525.
Nice one 👌

Thank you, great review!
I’m expecting those problems to be fixed with drivers by now, this is definitely one I’ve got my eye on.
Yeah me too, unfortunately the laptop was sent back after the review so I haven't been able to follow up.
Just bought one on sale at Walmart with a %10 discount(friend is Walmart employee) for $471 total. Going to give it to my son since keeps wanting to play on my Battlestation/Workstation. Hope it does the job lol.
Cool hope it goes well!
