I don't care what anybody says, but this is the best One Piece movie along with Strong World. I know people hated it because it was not very 'one-piece-y' and the animation was very unique, but this movie was freaking amazing. The story, characters, and especially the artwork were all phenomenal.
I´d kinda say the lesson to take away from the Baron isn´t quite that you shouldn´t love your family or friends to much but that you have to be able to let go of them once they passed on. Remember them and cherish the memorys but don´t live your life in the past
One of the best one piece movies ever made. The darker tones and the sad but loveable story gets me to rewatch over and over. Along with the amazing art style and fun realistic crew interactions. It's early one piece at it's best.
This movie was actually my first time ever seeing any One piece media of any kind as a kid, more than a decade before I got into the manga. I think it ended up putting me off the show for many years. Watching it now though it really is a unique bit of One Piece media and it's such a refreshing experience.
Fun Fact: Lilly Carnation is a play on Reincarnation, which the plant had the ability to do. At least in the forms of illusions. And the Baron himself is based on Hayao Miyazaki.
This is easily one of my favorite one piece movie. It is also a great way to introduce anyone new to the series because it pretty much is a microcosm of the series without needing to learn about the show prior. It is funny, creative, serious, and super dark without missing a beat. Also, the ost that plays at the very beginning with the credits has to be one of the best ost in the series. They play that once in water7 and that is it.
I genuinely love this movie. I think the animation/ art style is beautiful and expressive, each member gets a chance to shine and show off their personality, and then the horror is so well done and totally new for One Piece. I think I would describe the moral of the story to be that while its important to love your nakama, you cant let loss control your life, and to move on with your life is the best you can do for them rather than let their loss dictate your life
The mass grave confuses me. Who was it for? The baron sees his crew as alive while the flower victims gets their body devoured. My idea is that the baron landed on the island with a dead crew whereafter the inhabitants helped him bury his crew. The baron found a small flower on the island that told him it could bring his crew back. He then got corrupted by the plant and sacrificed the towns inhabitants to the flower to get his crew back.
Despite how tonally different the movie can be from the rest of the franchise, I feel the characters shine extremely well and showcase some of their best traits and humor, mixed with a nice bit of action. I show this movie to people who know nothing about one piece to try to get them into one piece.
What I wanna know is, Is this plant part of an entire species? like, i'm assuming this plant isn't unique and they don't all have baron's to feed them whole crews at a time, so I imagine they just all have illusions to lure one or two people at a time, and this is just the absolute biggest and most powerful, but still, imagine a whole island covered end to end with these tiny versions that still have all the powers just slowly eating anyone who washes ashore
i like how in the beginning of the movie everything is very saturated and colorful and bright but by the end everything thing looks dead and dark and almost monochrome but the colors that do actually show up are very toned down I love that so much
Thoughts. 1. Between the years the Baron spent making offerings to the Lily Carnation as payment for reviving his crew and the fact that Luffy's obsession with the food and games distracted him from the trouble affecting his crew, I could see this movie giving a message about the dangers of obsession. 2. I've actually wondered how Luffy would react if he were to lose his crew, or at least be tricked into thinking he lost his crew. Usually, with a setup of Scarecrow from DC comics manipulating his worst fears via fear toxin to make him hallucinate about losing everyone close to him to the likes of Sakazuki or Blackbeard. That mental image usually ends with Scarecrow getting sent running away and leaving a yellow and brown trail, absolutely TERRIFIED of what he unleashed. 3. Watching this video put me in the mood to revisit a story that I read a while back but was recently cancelled. It had Luffy travel with extra nakama, including some Baroque Works members who left that group and became nakama in a previous story and some from another franchise, on some adventures ranging from the "Davy Beck" arc to the midst of "Eneis Lobby". At one point, he sits down and talks with one of them about everything that happened with the Lilly Carnation. Including the idea of him killing the Baron. And being the only one to remember what happened. And still being haunted by the thought of almost losing his nakama because of his obsession with the game, to the point where he needed help from Miss Goldenweek, referred to as "Genevieve" in most of the story, to push it aside because he couldn't stop thinking about it. Kind of makes me wonder how much of that trauma would carry over to the One Piece lore if the events of the movie were cannon.
the baron reminds me of Moria kind of being as though they both seemingly couldn't get over the loss of their respective crews. in fact, if their roles were reversed, I can see them doing basically the same thing as each other. also how did the entire crew pose for a wanted poster and get a wanted poster? Was attach that fucking good back in the day that he got a whole crew to pose for a wanted poster? was their crew so Closey knit that it required a single wanted poster?
Movie 6 is an interesting movie, it has a lot of story elements you can find later on in one piece. From Moria, Boan Archipelago to Luffy loosing against the main antagonist like Impel Down. I also like the fact that there is no real villain, but rather a environmental hazard. Just a flesh eating plant that took over a rather strong pirate. The movie is also scarrier now that we know Big Mom's situation and that Chopper was the first devil fruit user it consumed. Think about a lily carnation with the human human fruit.
well i mean the fact that luffy didnt "noticed" it could also just be, they are doing their own thing they can take care of themselfs its nothing to worry about, i think that is what its more like but idk have not seen the movie
I really loved this movie because it isn't just one long fight like Stampede, it has fun adventure/discovery vibes mixed with horror vibes and goes against typical anime movie tropes About the crew acting weird: I think the idea is, you're on holiday in a new place, you are promised a kind of relaxing stay but you have to go through all these bs challenges, and you're getting annoyed and the mood just spreads across the whole group. Personally I find it pretty relatable. I can believe Luffy not noticing the crew disappearing because he thinks everyone's having as much fun as he is I guess? It's not like we've ever seen him care where they are in actual arcs in the story Love the dark atmosphere at the end, and how Luffy goes through so many struggles to get his crew back. The parallels between him and the baron I think work better later in the series when we see how Gear 2/3 destroy Luffys body. His bond to his crew can be almost destructive at times, I could see him break like the Baron if he lost the crew and didn't have a support figure like Jimbei, Rayleigh etc to support him.
Something some people think is obvious, yet others see no sign of (I'm more of the first camp myself, but I accept it's debatable): the Lily affects people. The closest crews came to the island over and over, and they all wound up falling apart through in-fighting? The thing uses and manipulates emotional bonds by nature.
I loved this movie. Especially for the animation style. Maybe because it looks more like all other anime, or that I find it more eye-pleasing then the traditional One Piece one... But yeah, I never complained about animation of this movie.
I remember when I first watched this movie. The end hit like a fucking truck. It was so different from the rest of one piece it took something that, on its own, is disturbing and the contrast from the rest of one piece just amplified it to a new level.
This, this is my favorite one piece movie of all time, did you see the LEVEL of animation and the DEPTH that has been put on each character and them relationships
funny timing, this one was in my radar for a looooong time, and I decided to finally give it a go just last week, it was quite nice. I don't have anything to add to the themes already discussed, but I do want to bring up something that kinda bothered me, mainly because it sort-of went unexplained, and thinking about it, there are ways to explain it, but would be more like fitting coincidences rather than foresight. Daisy being able to hear the Straw Hats, yeah, it could be haki, or rather, something similar to what at the time was called mantra, so yeah, some form of observation haki. But what really left me scratching my head were the arrows, those show some pretty bizarre properties all things considered, and while it seems like it's Lily who is responsible for them, I have another theory. maybe it's the Baron's devil fruit, it makes sense since the crew is named the Red Arrows and the Baron seems to be quite skilled with the Bow, even without the homing capabilities of the arrows, which would also explain that trait of them, Lily might just be using part of her abilities or body to create these arrows (as shown when they materialize). Furthermore at the end, when Lily's root turns into a ton of arrows, it reminded me of how a paramecia awakening sometimes work, or it could be Lily just providing ammo for the Baron to control, I would expect someone who deals with Roger level pirates to have awakened his DF. The DF would be the Yari yari no mi (arrow arrow fruit) and would allow the user to pretty much control arrows, power them up and even if awakened turning things into arrows. edit: I'm dumb and yari doesn't mean arrow, it means spear, but the general idea is fine. Of course this is all just a dumb theory and there's no way the writers would've foreseen awakenings, but a DF being behind the remote control arrows does make sense and fits quite nicely.
This movie for me animation and art style wise reminded me of when I watched birdie the mighty where at first I didn’t like it but as time went on I saw how the art style helped for more fluid and expressive animations and fight scenes. God the fight scenes just so awesome. If the reason anyone doesn’t want to watch is because of the art style just give it a chance. Once your twenty to fifteen minutes in you won’t even mind and by the fourty minute marker you love it.
I thought I couldn't respect Tekking more... 2:08 Then he made a Junji Ito reference. I thought he only cared about mainstream manga/anime but he has once again pleasantly surprised me.
I like how this movie went for a lite horror at the end, definitely makes me wonder how this concept would’ve been handled if given to someone like Stephen King, or Junji Ito
If I can say one thing that is lacking from this review is not enough plates we needed more plates that are floating in the back because he forgot to mention that the kappa could just summon plates and fight with them. I wonder if that was a skill or he had the plate plate fruit. Stacy or what her name was would love&hate that fruit lol
I'd say it's more you should never give up on your friends and should do whatever you can for them. Though it can be easy to get so attached to them that the act of losing them either in a "some of your friends argue to much and now won't talk to one another" or a more permanent way like them dying can cause people to go to extremes to get them back. Which is perfectly understandable. But you need to realize when they're just gone and to move on. Like yeah Luffy would be absolutely destroyed if his crew all died. And yeah I could see him doing something similar if it was an option presented to him. But I feel like he'd be able to pull himself together to realize it's not what he needs and it's not what his crew would have wanted. And the Baron just couldn't see past his grief over losing all of his friends and crew to the point where he'd literally sacrifice the lives of others so he could be with the manifestations of his crew. There's a healthy way to deal with grief and there's a way that can easily result in you hurting others because you feel like it's what you need.
I'm a bit late but, I feel like the message of the movie is "You don't know when you'll lose your loved ones -- don't waste time fighting. Love them while you have them, and be prepared to let go when they're gone."
Little Shop of Horrors Tekking. What if the Audrey 2 could give you your hearts desire? Its a dark ass idea, but it lines up pretty well. Likewise I like to think the Lily Carnation is just a similar thing. Its some sort of horror from beyond the stars that landed on this particular island and found someone willing to give it what it wants.
Creators of the film: My life sucks, how bout' I just put all my frustrations into this film and make it super dark for no reason! Honestly the message is to do things your loved ones would want you to do. It's disrespectful to their death if you try and do stuff like the Baron did, killing others for your fantasy.
I remember watching this for the first time as a teenager and thought it would be lighthearted with lots of actions and comedy etc. But boy was I in for a treat to learn this wasn't going to be like anything I knew about one piece. I honestly couldn't get through the rest of the movie. I loved the movie and art style etc. I just couldn't sit through the horror.
Just bought and watched the blu-ray for this film and I have to say it is really great. I also checked out some of the Amazon reviews where I bought and many seem to complain about the art style. I personally thought the art style was phenomenal.
Me before the movie: Oh this movie looks like fun. It's colorful, the animation looks a bit weird but it's cool. Me after the movie: I WILL NEVER LOOK AT FLOWERS THE SAME WAY AGAIN!
10:23 Also in character design triangles are used for villains and especially cunning and sharp villains. The baron is almost entirely made out of triangles.
Despite this movie's flaw, many ppl theorized Oda later coporate some element from this movie for Saobody arc like Luffy lose his crew one by one and Luffy punch to celestial dragon
Tekking I waited the entire video and I was waiting for you to mention this but fun fact this movie came out right around the time Blackbeard was introduced and Blackbeard and the Baron are the same voice actors !!
The weirdest thing is that the power of friendship DIDN'T win Omatsuri's PoF was way higher (to the point of willing to sacrifice hundreds of other people just to keep his friends more or less alive) than the Strawhats PoF and yet Omatsuri still lost
I would argue against that. I feel as though you equate 'power of friendship' to 'number of things you'd be willing to do for your friends', but I'd argue that this movie creates a more specific definition of 'the power of friendship'. You have the secondary pirate crews that end up defeating Omatsuri, and why? Not because they protected their own out of a selfish blindness, but rather a realization that friends don't really matter if everyone else is suffering around you. Why else do you think Luffy keeps helping people he comes into contact with? Why do you think we constantly celebrate the victories of the Straw Hat Pirates, even though its their fights that constantly put them at risk? It's BECAUSE a 'romantic' adventure wouldn't be fun without the world being free, and their other friends happy. Omatsuri is what people think the power of friendship is, without really understanding the moral complexities of that. He literally resurrects them from the dead and forces their memories to be distorted into a parasitic monstrosity. He RECOGNIZES this. He KNOWS this. But he values them being there over LITERALLY everything else. Luffy would never let something like this stand, even if it meant having to let go of the friends he loved so much. It's the fact that Luffy loves his nakama so much, and yet would never choose them over doing the right thing (at least from his perspective) that's so cool. He'd choose BOTH. THAT'S the power of friendship (at least to me).
Yes, its here thank you tekking for this discussion this is honestly my favorite one piece movie. This is so dark, creepy, ambitious and its visual style/ animation that it make it memorable.

Might because we get a 'From the Decks of the World' bits throughout as it's going on. Might because everyone is bit more in character than in the film, but the subtler character shift as it goes on is definitely better done in This Bites.
They do make it more emphatic that "Yes, the lily is affecting their minds." My main issue was that almost Everyone off the island that we see is So Utterly horrified, and, well... Completely forgot about this comment lol… still meant what I said! Thank you Tekking!
This gives me hope that we'll get movie 7 sometime this decade
And then the OVA’s, in a million years.
All I got from movie 7 was titties and the thought that chopper should be able to talk to zunesha…interested in what you like about it
PS I didn’t think it was bad just nothing speacial
@@hoodie7257 tiddus
the movie 7 was straight ass , the only film during which I almost slept completely , it was boring as hell
Even though the last couple One Piece movies have been excellent, this is my personal favorite One Piece movie.
same , probably the best old classic One Piece movie besides Dead end race
It's still my favorite OP movie after seeing all of them.
It's so dark and twisted. I'll never forget Luffy's face of pure horror in the near end....
The implications of that character design are interesting
Lily Carnation Power is Life Manipulation
This is easily one of my favorite one piece movie. It is also a great way to introduce anyone new to the series because it pretty much is a microcosm of the series without needing to learn about the show prior. It is funny, creative, serious, and super dark without missing a beat.
Also, the ost that plays at the very beginning with the credits has to be one of the best ost in the series. They play that once in water7 and that is it.
I genuinely love this movie. I think the animation/ art style is beautiful and expressive, each member gets a chance to shine and show off their personality, and then the horror is so well done and totally new for One Piece. I think I would describe the moral of the story to be that while its important to love your nakama, you cant let loss control your life, and to move on with your life is the best you can do for them rather than let their loss dictate your life
Anybody else notice how when Tekking starts takling about the darker part of the movie the LED lights in the background turn from blue to red?
The mass grave confuses me. Who was it for? The baron sees his crew as alive while the flower victims gets their body devoured.
My idea is that the baron landed on the island with a dead crew whereafter the inhabitants helped him bury his crew. The baron found a small flower on the island that told him it could bring his crew back. He then got corrupted by the plant and sacrificed the towns inhabitants to the flower to get his crew back.
It's the pirate crews that he lured there
Despite how tonally different the movie can be from the rest of the franchise, I feel the characters shine extremely well and showcase some of their best traits and humor, mixed with a nice bit of action. I show this movie to people who know nothing about one piece to try to get them into one piece.
I enjoyed how Usopp and Nami fought like they were a damn couple.
This was my 1st one piece movie and I'm glad it was because this is my favorite.
Kind of hypocritical of nami to get in usopp’s face about betrayal when she is such a double crossing bitch .
@@bqw2094 usopp said that to her, not the exact words you said, but something similar
@@ahmadasfour6715 The point is that nami was being hypocritical.
What is the story called and where can I read it?
the baron reminds me of Moria kind of being as though they both seemingly couldn't get over the loss of their respective crews. in fact, if their roles were reversed, I can see them doing basically the same thing as each other.
also how did the entire crew pose for a wanted poster and get a wanted poster? Was attach that fucking good back in the day that he got a whole crew to pose for a wanted poster? was their crew so Closey knit that it required a single wanted poster?
This was made before he was introduced
I really loved this movie because it isn't just one long fight like Stampede, it has fun adventure/discovery vibes mixed with horror vibes and goes against typical anime movie tropes
About the crew acting weird: I think the idea is, you're on holiday in a new place, you are promised a kind of relaxing stay but you have to go through all these bs challenges, and you're getting annoyed and the mood just spreads across the whole group. Personally I find it pretty relatable. I can believe Luffy not noticing the crew disappearing because he thinks everyone's having as much fun as he is I guess? It's not like we've ever seen him care where they are in actual arcs in the story
Love the dark atmosphere at the end, and how Luffy goes through so many struggles to get his crew back.
I think the message of the movie was the stages of grief, or maybe acceptance and letting things go so you can move forward
Love to see you covering the movies, Tekking. Take your time with these, it's worth the wait.
I do look forward to these. They're always just fun. Even though it's a one sided conversation, it feels like discussing the movies with a friend.
I like how this movie went for a lite horror at the end, definitely makes me wonder how this concept would’ve been handled if given to someone like Stephen King, or Junji Ito
I love how at 52:15 Tekking completly ignores that the Kage-Kage-no-Mi does exist and Moria did revive his crew, lol.
The moral of the story is that you should love your friends, but you shouldn't be possessive of them.
The punch at the end where baron omatsuri is defeated is the best punch in this whole franchise
Dude I've been waiting on this for so long. Literally youre the main reason I watched that movie and its still the only one I've watched thus far.
Your little skits are why you are hands down my favorite TH-camr
I remember watching this for the first time as a teenager and thought it would be lighthearted with lots of actions and comedy etc. But boy was I in for a treat to learn this wasn't going to be like anything I knew about one piece. I honestly couldn't get through the rest of the movie. I loved the movie and art style etc. I just couldn't sit through the horror.
That next movie review is about to go crazy because of the animation quality. Yes, the ✨animation quality✨
I just watched this movie for the first time in awhile like 3 days ago and of course you make a video of it. Excellent timing
It's about time Matty-boy! Been waiting for this and just in time for my hourly commute! 🔥🔥🔥
We have been waiting for this for so long. I'm so hype.
Also, Mamoru Hosoda is goated
Just bought and watched the blu-ray for this film and I have to say it is really great. I also checked out some of the Amazon reviews where I bought and many seem to complain about the art style. I personally thought the art style was phenomenal.
this intro is goated lmaooo thanks for all the laughs and good times tekking
Now I just need 1 or 2 years for Tekking to finish all movie reviews!
Me before the movie: Oh this movie looks like fun. It's colorful, the animation looks a bit weird but it's cool.
Me after the movie: I WILL NEVER LOOK AT FLOWERS THE SAME WAY AGAIN!
Yes we love to see it. The moment many have waited for
Yo I feel asleep while this was playing and just tekking describing this gave me the wildest nightmare.
Perfect timing! A long tekking video to ease me into sleep, love it!
Tekking, you should make more Record of Ragnarok videos, the one about Jack Vs Herc was fantastic and I need more honestly
Tekking I'm sick as a dog with ibs but your videos make my day just a bit better
The return, happy to see this again. A very interesting movie for the franchise to this day
Baron Tekking has come to cause torment and terror but seriously this movie I wish was canon it's so good to me
If Usopp was a Villain in One Piece you could totally see him having a Lily Carnation Pop Green
10:23
Also in character design triangles are used for villains and especially cunning and sharp villains. The baron is almost entirely made out of triangles.
Despite this movie's flaw, many ppl theorized Oda later coporate some element from this movie for Saobody arc like Luffy lose his crew one by one and Luffy punch to celestial dragon
man, just yesterday i just wondered when he'd do this.
thank you tekking
Tekking I waited the entire video and I was waiting for you to mention this but fun fact this movie came out right around the time Blackbeard was introduced and Blackbeard and the Baron are the same voice actors !!
This movie was so unsettling when I first watched it as a kid. It's still unsettling now tbh. Definitely my favourite One Piece film aside from Z.
Finally did movie 6 thank u tekking was a great video well worth the wait lol
The weirdest thing is that the power of friendship DIDN'T win
Omatsuri's PoF was way higher (to the point of willing to sacrifice hundreds of other people just to keep his friends more or less alive) than the Strawhats PoF and yet Omatsuri still lost
So true.
@@shaggymuffin349 This is the correct answer
I was just watching the Movie 6 discussion video yesterday and want “hmm, Tekking should make a discussion on this!”
Yes, its here thank you tekking for this discussion this is honestly my favorite one piece movie. This is so dark, creepy, ambitious and its visual style/ animation that it make it memorable.
When the world needed him most he came back with a DON. Also last movie review was 10 months ago(April 2021) Crazy but I’m still here to watch TEKKING101.
your the only reason i can fall asleep at night thank you
You to I put in a playlist and pass out
Best movie in the series hands down, one of the best stories in the series also.
We have been waiting for this for god knows how long! Do all of the movies!!
This movie was so good. Probably my favorite after Film Z
Certainly mine too! Film Z also has one of the best soundtracks: that Marine song ("Ocean Guide") at the end...chills.
Having rewatched the movie before this review, I got to say.... I think the Cross Brain did it better in 'This Bites'. Might because we get a 'From the Decks of the World' bits throughout as it's going on. Might because everyone is bit more in character than in the film, but the subtler character shift as it goes on is definitely better done in This Bites.
They do make it more emphatic that "Yes, the lily is affecting their minds."
My main issue was that almost Everyone off the island that we see is So Utterly horrified, and, well... Some of these characters are Absolute bastards. Yet, IIRC, Only Doflamingo isn't completely disgusted by it.
Why would someone like Kid, or Bege care? Why would the Gorosei give a shit? They're set to buster call this place, when really, they'd probably just go "Hey, marines. Don't go to that island."
It's neat to have that moment of almost the whole world gathering together in spirit against one of the darkest things in OP, but it just feels a little off when you remember that that includes people like "Massacre Soldier" Killer, a dude who's bounty is primarily for how he loves killing civilians so much he made it his name.
@@calemr Bege I could argue that Lily's methods are an affront to his style of criminality, while Kid and Killer, yes they slaughter people, but they're also very honest about it, straight up bloodshed none of Doffy's revelling in misery. As for the Gorosei, while Sengoku was gearing up to order a Buster Call, I think the Gorosei were planning to weaponize the Lily's remains if Sengoku didn't make that announcement at the end.
@@doubledamn2599 the gorosei were planing to use the remain but change there mind because tthat could easily backfire and back things a lot worst and the thought of one of there enemys doing it

THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
im happy i got the the next one piece movie review on my birthday, thanks tekking
Honestly really excited to see your opinion on this. Watched the movie last week and thought it was amazing
Was thinking this yesterday where is our movie reviews I almost watched #6 myself but glad I got your video to explain it. All I needed today
Omg I was just asking about this last video, dreams really do come true
Dammit Tekking xD
I'm watching this alone, at 1:25 AM in the dark and I have to say your transmission at 30:35 did give me some little goosebumps. :p Never expected a Tekking101 video to have this effect. ;)
GIANT GOLDFISH ROSARIO is one of my favorite one piece songs.
The scene where the crew turns back into trees with no animation or even sound effect is really creepy
Ohhhh, I've been looking forward for when you'd cover THIS movie.
I love this movie, it's my favourite. I think the message is about grief, learning to live with a loss of a close person and not letting that consume you, learning to let go and move on.
You held in that laugh pretty good after the Chaplin joke 🤣😂
Also chopper is the friggin man. I swear to god.
For some reason i have this memory of the baron mentioning the seed of the plant coming from space, but when i rewatched recently that wasnt in the movie
probably one of the messages of the movie was to learn to let go, you know you can't get absorbed in one moment of your life, you need to let go some times to grow as a person or to live freely
