I’d genuinely like to hear more about musicians on pirate crews, and if that was an actual thing. I know sea shanties and such were real, but did there used to be actual musicians on prominent crews?
as far as I understand it - music wasn't entertainment as much as it served a function the musical rhythms in sea shanties would let the crew sync up a lot of people to complete complex tasks when managing the ship/changing sails etc. Making everyone who worked on those tasks the musician by necessity essentially, sea shanties played the same role as Nami yelling at the crew pre-Sunny
There were absolutely members of pirate and regular naval crews that could play instruments and brought them on board, they probably weren't hired with the express purpose of being the musician but they would of been good for moral, upper class nobility were known to hire musicians as entertainment on their ships but this would of been very expensive as it's basically hiring a personal band to play for you during dinner
Historically musicians weren't a common thing when recruiting pirate crews, however when pillaging or raiding if musicians were found they were very desired for morale and keep in mind on a ship a pair of hands is a pair of hands no matter what trade so musicians would pitch in too But if the musicians were good enough skill wise they could escape torture and if there skills were top notch even get a cut of the spoils although very rare, however where musicians did shine on a pirate ship was with the quartermaster as a quartermaster would outrank the captain on day to day running of the ship and musicians would make his job a hell of alot easier providing they were good at what they did, so if they did a good job the crews disposition towards the musicians would be friendly and in turn they would lend a hand however possible Hope that general info helps

since yamato has never left wano, assuming she does join the strawhats i imagine she would act much in the same way oden did when he was with whitebeard. always running off first without a plan because of this i think she would end up as the strawhats' scout
Yamato is Oden. He role in the story is the exact same with the exception she’s not needed for the Poneglyphs, she’s needed for strength and another female Strawhat/shipmate. She is a “princess” after all.
My favorite luffy captain moment is when they explain the log pose for the new world and luffy looks for the most dangerous looking island. What a great captain :)
i don't know if i would call luffy meek even, remember the whole fight he had with usopp when he decided that they needed to replace the going merry. He's certainly willing to put his foot down and even fight/kick out his crew if its really necessary.
Hey Tekking, if you want an example of a pirate captain that you described as meek, check out the video by Internet Historian called "The Gentleman Pirate". It's a story of Stede Bonnet who had his crew taken over by Blackbeard after they came to an agreement to let Blackbeard temporarily captain his ship so he could hear injuries he suffered in battle.
Nami already logs the journey along with making maps. So I don't think Yamato official role will be to log the journey. She could definitely do it but not as the guy responsible for record keeping.
Yamato wants to follow in Oden's footsteps, and she has his journal. Oden was on Roger's crew on their final voyage, and it's most likely Roger logged the journey himself (he was the captain, after all). I have a theory that Roger left his logbook in Laugh Tale, to keep the details of his journey from falling into the wrong hands. Oden's journal was most likely intended for his family and the people of Wano, and he didn't reveal the details about the One Piece or the secrets of the Void Century. Although Nami is the one who logs the Straw Hats' journey, Yamato will most likely write her own journal, like Oden before her. I've had this picture in my head for a while, with Yamato documenting the final stretch of the Straw Hats' voyage.
I love researching pirates in the real world and I'm so happy your making this series that directly ties back to real life, watched you since the first marine rank video years ago and I've watched you daily since then 🤙
I recommend watching the show Black Sails Was from a few years back, and followed the fictional history of Captain Flint (from Treasure Island, before the events of the book with Jim Hawkins). It did a great job of blending fictional people with real historical pirates and their stories, lots of great details including the relationships of the different members of the crew and what their jobs were etc
Some questions for the Vice Captain/Swordsman episode: - Is the fact that so many of the pirate crews we've faced have swordsmen as their Vice Captain just because Zoro has to have someone to fight, or is it like a rule that all pirate crews must have a swordsman as their Vice Captain? - And what is the largest crew that doesn't have a swordsman as a vice captain? - Could this just be because i'm over thinking this and being a swordsman is super common in the One Piece world?

What if this party they’re referring to is after they become pirate king and get put on the block? Everyone was there and invited during Rogers, and in some sick way....he loved the OP reveal.
Luffy in one piece is just about what you would expect from a pirate captain 1. When in combat/danger he leads from the front and it seams like he want to be the first to die if his crew is headed in that direction 2. When not in combat he follows the one who knows more about what needs to be done (usually Nami)
I actually left a comment about Luffy's captain style being somewhat historically accurate for pirate captains, so it's cool to see those kinds of facts actually acknowledged in a video! Great vid, Tekking!
Could you do a video on the future of Franky and what you see in his future? Maybe he repairs the Noah in Fishman Island, or maybe he finally learns Armament Haki. He’s my favorite on the crew since he’s the most SUPER!
luffy does know how to sail the ship whadya mean. he takes orders and takes care of the sail or whatever needs to be done. he was one of the neeted members during merry days
There was actually a moment where zoro was watching luffy's fight and said something to the effect of if he can't win he can be captain. They don't just rely on him for battle strategy. But in a mange they really trusting in his actual strength. If it comes to it they know luffy would die to protect them and is the most capable of doing so
I'd like to volunteer for the scholar role in the ship. I have gathered eldritch knowledge from beyond human comprehension and I am to believe this may be useful in a standard pirate crew
There was also the Welsh Pirate Henry Morgan who became a british government sanctioned pirate (privateer) and became the governor of the island of Jamaica
***CHRONICLER/LOG KEEPER*** Tekking, the logbook keeper for a pirate crew is called a "chronicler." (old term for log keeper, I like the word chronicler so I'm going with it) It was most often a top seated position in the crew (usually captain, quartermaster, or vice). Very rarely was it lower but a good example of this; the best I can do is an analogy. A lower seated chronicler is kinda like Radar from the old TV show M*A*S*H. He was the dude that kept following the captain around and taking notes. Yamato wouldn't exactly be like this, but she probably would go around getting stories from everyone, and of course she would take record of the journey going forward. She would probably pass down the story of the Strawhats through the generations, which is exactly what the chroniclers did. A lot of the stuff we know from history on real pirates, trace all the way back to the chroniclers who lived long enough to tell the tale, or pass down writings. This would be Yamato's job on the crew, She'll be the one to pass them on to legend. It was actually more of a secondary job for higher-ups in rank on a crew, but that's just why it's rarely a low seated position, if it ends up even being a position at all. Helmsmen and Navigator is another example of a position that is normally a secondary job in a higher-up position. Also there's a position called Powder Monkey. This crew member worked with the gunners and loaded the canons. Did you know that pirate crews had merchants too?? How about the main thief??? The scapegoat??? The gambler??? The swordsmith??? Just way too many pirate jobs on record.
First Mate would be the natural progression from Captain so I'd love to hear more about that position and the roles it would have on a ship! Awesome new series, can't wait for more!
I have a video idea What are some enemies the straw hats have faced that could have "joined the crew" I like the idea of oars. He be in case of big battle like maybe facing huge threats caures he have to stay on thriller like image now when zo arrives oars show up with him...I feel like this could be very fun video idea
Tekking an interesting fact about Doctors on ships is that they are (in current days) the only singular position that can delay a ship for departing port. Cruise ships and others ships of this sort can leave port with out the captain due to a first officer and same with the lead engineer as both positions typically have a backup. However if that ship has a singular doctor that 1 person can delay departure if they are not on board. In fact some ships have policies stating that this person isn't allowed to leave the ship unless they have a replacement.
I am tempted to suggest the obvious positions that have several interesting characters like First Mate or Doctor, but I kind of want you to cover Navigators next! Do we know any confirmed Navigators other than Nami, Bepo, and Laffitte? I would definitely like to hear speculation about who *might* be other Navigators for their crews and also see you cover their real history equivalent of Sailing Master!
You should make a video on the scouts of the pirates. I think Mihawk is the scout for Shank’s crew. Basically goes undercover for their captain and relays information. Like Vergo!
Application for the Sun Hat Pirates: While I don't tend to wear hats that often (would that be optional, or can they be a different kind of hat. Like a base cap, cowboy hat, bonnet, other kinds of hats) and I don't have much gardening experience, I'm not bad with taking care of basic plants. Also, I've taken classes on floral design and arrangement and would be very good at decorating the ship and arranging the flowers into bouquets. Note: if we have poisonous plants, I could work those into the bouquets, and we could trick the enemy by throwing the pretty flowers at them.
10:28 I feel like they would all turn to Jimbe, but he'd refuse, and tell them he'd help whoever they choose. I think the next person they'd all look at would be Nami, and I'd pick her as well.
So Tekking if YOU wanted to have a grand shonen style adventure in the real world how would you do it? Your fighting style? Where you would go adventuring? Where would you recruit powerful allies? What evil groups would you fight against? Mafia, human traffickers, super evil governments that murder their own people etc? Etc.
How about a video on gunners/snipers? I remember reading somewhere that it’s the most dangerous job on a pirate crew due to deal with all the explosives and how things tended to backfire often. Also, surprised you didn’t say anything about that discussion Luffy and Usopp had about Usopp taking over as captain if Luffy couldn’t.
A video about first mates would be cool. I started thinking about characters you could talk about and as i kept thinking the more interesting the topic became
19:50 I personally am operating under the belief that Drake has the total loyalty of the men who served on his ship in the marines and when he defected they defected with him.
Just to get ahead of it, while Killer is stated to be a "combatant" of the Kidd pirates, its also officially said that he's a good cook. So in my head he fills that role as well. Also, 100% head cannon, but ive always felt like Scopper was a navigator. Just got that vibe from him
Let me see if I can finish Tekking's tune... There once was a space ship put to the stars And the name of the ship was Blood o' Mars Her jets flared up as she fled the ground HQ would soon count down Up high the Pirate King goes, To sail past island and sea and globe Bye bye, to nakama down low But here's this hat I found
applying for the sun hat pirates sir. I garden often I planted 30 trees and almost all are bearing at this point and I have 3 gardens a pineapple patch and water melon patch and sweet potato. lol
10:18 Well, Zoro is technically the First Mate, but the one that has factually done that is Kuroashi no Sanji, Captain of the Curly Hat Pirates, who even fought off the attacks of both Big Mom's and Kaido's crews. But agree, Jinbe is the best suited for the role, as he did when they were escaping Whole Cake Island, and both Luffy and Sanji were indisposed
I think I’ve watched all of your videos and I just became a fan a few months ago. I watch your videos when I’m delivering packages and I need more content tekking! You should make a video about your top 10 favorite one piece special moves such as (Jet pistol, gigantesco manos, finger pistols, string parasite etc)
I'm sorry. The only lyrics that come to mind right now are: There once was a show that sailed the sea Loosed from the docks of Toonami The Marry Go Crew that won our hearts One Piece has come back home (ho!) Saturday Toonami comes with stretchy Luffy and Gum Gum One day when the treasure is won we'll take our leave and go One Piece is on every Saturday Night At 1:30 we'll join the fight Adventure waits for you and me when the Straw Hat pirates call (ho!) Saturday Toonami comes with stretchy Luffy and Gum Gum One day when the treasure is won we'll take our leave and go (ho!)
If Luffy was every to be in a coma, I genuinely would like to see either Jinbe or Brook to take the role of captain. Jinbe because is new to the crew and it could show trust and all that wounderful jazz, and the reason I would like to see Brook as captain because, he was one before and given the fact he is the oldest member of the straw hat pirates he could know stuff of old that he never felt the need to reveal because he is no longer a captain. Also we could get a good look on how Brook/yorkie ran his pirate crew as well.
I’m sure his theory has been discussed before but if not just in case… what if Toki used her devil fruit on Joyboy and when Rodger‘s got to laughtale there was a note saying I’ll be here in 860 years.. Roger realized that they were 40 years to early..or something like that. 🤷🏽♂️
I think this is what distinguishes the straw hats from other crews. The straw hats don’t just have strong fighters, every role is filled by the best or one of the best at their position in the world.
I think it'd be cool if you went in like decending order. So, captain, first mate, ...after that I'm not sure. But I'd really like to hear about the doctor role. It'd be so cool to hear about the real life version.
Oh shit we got a tekking101 video on a Wednesday that's what's up. Also I love your serious videos that dive into moral area of one piece the tiger fisher has to be my favorite to date
I don't know if anyone will read this but it would actually be really cool if you start a crew but in Sea of Thieves! It might make a cool series and lead to some fan meetups
I would like to apply for the position of ships decorator. I will need a list of holidays to be celebrated, a calendar with the dates and a craft room with supplies. I will in exchange make the decorations, put them up and take them down. I am also a good cook, but don't ask me to bake, because I use recipes as guidelines and therefore don't follow them to the letter.
In regards to who would be acting captain. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm gonna go with usopp. Say we go with what's going on right now, for instance, Zoro is incapacitated and I believe Sanji is too. From there, I think usopp would be a good choice. He may pull an usopp or he may man up, but either way, it'll be exactly what he needs to be doing in that moment. Nami is the next choice though considering her existing dynamic with luffy
I'd definitely give the Captain position to Nami if Luffy was ever in a coma. When it comes to the ship,She's almost always giving the orders on steering and what to avoid. I love to see video on Muscians on Pirate Ships. I don't know if it actually happened in history but it would know more if they did!!

Ooh do Navigator next! Always loved that Roger was his own navigator
Like Vergo!
i love that at the start he says he says hes starting his own crew (mans been role playing as a captain in dnd for like 2 years)
A Vice Captain Video would be great and maybe how strong does one needs to be or what makes you a vice captain
Would love navigators, kinda making a DnD character who's a navigator and having some extra knowledge would be great
Application for the Sun Hat Pirates: While I don't tend to wear hats that often (would that be optional, or can they be a different kind of hat.
YOU GOD MY DAMN VOTE! (even if I commented one year later)
10:28
I feel like they would all turn to Jimbe, but he'd refuse, and tell them he'd help whoever they choose. I think the next person they'd all look at would be Nami, and I'd pick her as well.
you could talk about the quartermaster or the navigator in your next video. it will be kinda of interesting to hear about those positions
Tekking's Crew
1. Briggs
2. Rustage
3. Nux Taku
4. Animak
5. Joy Girl
6. King of Lightning
7. Rogersbase
8. Artur
Who else would fit there
Noble/Lost Pause and 2Spooky
A video about first mates would be cool. I started thinking about characters you could talk about and as i kept thinking the more interesting the topic became
I think u should Homestly expand more on captains but if not ill say helmsman lets take a journey thru the eyes of what they see and how they reacted
There once was a space ship put to the stars
And the name of the ship was Blood o' Mars
Her jets flared up as she fled the ground
HQ would soon count down
Up high the Pirate King goes,
To sail past island and sea and globe
Bye bye, to nakama down low
But here's this hat I found
buggy would be a amazing boxer. imagine him showing up with only half of his torso for the waight-in...
Berry letting tekking be captain is precious
applying for the sun hat pirates sir.
I'm sorry. The only lyrics that come to mind right now are:
There once was a show that sailed the sea
Loosed from the docks of Toonami
The Marry Go Crew that won our hearts One Piece has come back home (ho!)
Saturday Toonami comes with stretchy Luffy and Gum Gum
One day when the treasure is won we'll take our leave and go
One Piece is on every Saturday Night
At 1:30 we'll join the fight
Adventure waits for you and me when the Straw Hat pirates call (ho!)
Saturday Toonami comes with stretchy Luffy and Gum Gum
One day when the treasure is won we'll take our leave and go (ho!)
the charismatic part that always hits me is the moment luffy was fighting katakuri and he held back his pain and just smiled and said he'll win
The Fact That Tekkking Thinks HE IS the captain when Barry is around... Sure Matt sure.... We all know Barry D Brick is the true Captain
Dart frogs are popular pets. They pose no danger unless you have an open wound while handling it or eat it.
I wouldn't want to see anyone but captain William cover this topic...
Also Berry, Berry had some great insight.
On Drake, I could see him having maybe 3-5 main members who are all members of SWORD
Today’s frog facts we talk about the strongest frog to ever roam the earth! GOL D. DART FROG!
I’ll show myself out.
Hey Tekking, i don't know if you ever did this but i would really like to see you figurine collection
Do Navigator next, excuse to talk about geography!
My favorite theory of what Luffy and Roger said when it cut away is "I'm going to deliver/drink Binks' Sake"
Ayyyyy a vid on my birthdayy 🔥🔥 ty Tekking
26:48 dammit he made a pun without doughnut🤣
@Tekking101 2:55 I believe the term for that position would be the Chronicler. Or at least that's the term I intend to use for a crossover.
This is my application for the crews chef. I have years of line cook and waiting experience that would come in handy when we need to recharge.
“Sun hat” tekking it would make my day if I could be the musician for the sun hat pirates
I think it'd be cool if you went in like decending order. So, captain, first mate, ...after that I'm not sure. But I'd really like to hear about the doctor role. It'd be so cool to hear about the real life version.
Video has No Sound :/
just the other day i had a test that talked about frogs and tekkings frog facts actually helped
When tekking Talks about doctors and doesn’t mention the 🐐 Trafalgar D. Water Law
So no one is going to talk about Tekking's new mustache that's slowly growing out
Im German, and in the German dub i beliebe Luffy said in the flash back " Im going to share it (the one piece) with everyone"
that intro made my day alone!
Oh shit we got a tekking101 video on a Wednesday that's what's up. Also I love your serious videos that dive into moral area of one piece the tiger fisher has to be my favorite to date
Strawhat Acting Captain question: Jinbei for sure. He's held the crew together during whole cake island when Luffy was stuck fighting Katakuri.
I don't know if anyone will read this but it would actually be really cool if you start a crew but in Sea of Thieves! It might make a cool series and lead to some fan meetups
I specifically have experience in growing peppers, hot ones like cayenne and habanero
I have a boat licence and I've been training for this moment my whole life you best get this crew together and we'll take over the Caribbean
I would like to see you talk about right hand men and also could you talk about more real life examples of pirates
I'd definitely give the Captain position to Nami if Luffy was ever in a coma. When it comes to the ship,She's almost always giving the orders on steering and what to avoid.
I love to see video on Muscians on Pirate Ships. I don't know if it actually happened in history but it would know more if they did!!
tekking - thank you for your videos. best regards from austria
i'd like a theory about the florian triangle monsters and perhaps ideas of how they can reapear.
I’ll join as the musician as long as you don’t expect me to fight or stand at a 45 degree angle
Strength rules on the seas, espically back then. He also tends to get things done.
