I really don't get those saying that they don't feel the bigger group for reactions. I mean just let them enjoy the show and give us their initial reactions as they dive in to each episode. I'm sure they'll figure out the details afterwards anyways. They don't have to get everything in the first watch.

The similarities between the marching soldiers and the marching hyenas is not a coincidence. Since both are based on the Nazis marching.
At the start of the episode the scene with Bert is important because he says he thinks the old man was wanting to be judged by someone. Then later in the episode Reiner is pretty much begging Eren to cast his judgement on him.
I also want to point out that Whilly Tyber says "Because I was born to this world." Eren reacts to that line because it is what his Mom had said about how all people are special because they are born to this world.

Idk if you have realized yet but Eren pointing up with his bleeding hand and telling reiner there is people above them is like quite literally him saying: "if you dont listen i transform and kill all of these people above". Which is quite insane to me already.
He was gonna do it anyway. He just wanted Reiner to wait for Tybur to declare war on Paradis. Oh, and ofcourse to mess with Reiner's head too. Pretty sure tht was his main intention 🤣🤣🤣

This episode was simply masterful. The tension, the drama, the horror. Eren keeps pushing forward, to terrifying results.
I’m happy that you have a full couch for this, ladies. Alex seems like a good addition, offers good devils advocate points here and there. Love that Dani seems to like this mature, somber but driven Eren.

Possibly one of the best anime episodes ever made. Is there any anime that has this much tension and drama with a climax like that at the end? People are too dumb to understand the greatness

One thing a few people miss is that just before Eren shows Reiner that he cut his hand, he makes a point to tell him that they are basically underneath a block of apartments behind the stage. A block of apartments full of people, and then Eren shows that he's cut his hand. He his holding a gun to the head of that entire apartment block ready to kill them all by transforming if Reiner or Falco leave that room. And then he does just that. Eren officially just committed a war crime in that transformation
He threatened a war crime.
He let Reiner stew in the possibility of whether or not he would actually do it, as Reiner knows Eren very well, and Marley had committed a war crime by breaching the wall on Paradis and causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands. He repeatedly told Reiner that they were the same.
He did not do anything until Willy actually declared war.
At that point, it was fair game. He gave Willy every chance to choose:
Make peace with the threat Eren Jaeger poses.
Or.
Declare war.
Willy chose poorly.
@@highlander31527 Marley wasnt evn at war with Paradis at the time so what they did to the ppl in the walls cant evn be considered a war crime. It was straight up massacre. And Eren never gave a choice for peace. Eren said it himself last season. All he sees beyond the seas are enemies.

No chance to let them realize that they are wrong or talk about it, or reconsider their stance and make peace when they receive a massive info dump like what Willy gave them? I rather like that idea. Why even bother declaring war at all? What does it matter then if it is a war crime? If you are just going to exterminate every living person that you consider an enemy, Eren sure gave them every chance to take a different route.
Eren may have decided that he was at war with Marley last season. He still did nothing but make plans, prepare, and scout until Willy decided to take the entire world to war against Paradis.
I could get into the semantics, but, knowing the range of Eren's abilities, Eren already knew Willy's speech, and that everyone there agreed with it, and he was just going through the motions. It's why his eyes are so dead. He has no choice in the matter.

Don’t read if you haven’t read the manga.
In the last season part 2 you’re gonna see how Eren and the crew go to marley to find a way get peace between marley and the eldians, they even go to a speech or something of an organization that supports eldians, but during that speech the crew listens that they only want peace for the eldians in marley and want the eldians in paradis to die, at this point Eren gives up on any hipe for peace and just leaves the room. So Eren did try to get peace but the world didn’t.

Leaders from all over the world were there with Willy for his speech. Eren took a second chance for at least some countries to refuse Willy's plan.
None did. Except for the one nice lady who conveniently left to go to the bathroom or something just before Willy's declaration. Really suspicious lady for anime watchers at this point.
17:05 - This is why Reiner is my favorite character. He was the only one who owned up to his decisions and actions. He didn't make excuses as to why he did what he did, he didn't say it was because he was brainwashed or fooled by Marely, but admitted that he only did it to save his own skin.

He was scared, but he had no idea what Eren was up to.
Moreover, his PTSD regarding Paradis has clearly been shown by this point.
He genuinely regrets everything he did, it's been made pretty obvious.
He really does want to die at this point. Almost killed himself back in episode 3.
Even his transformation scene to save Falco showed this, when Falco said that Reiner doesn't have the will to live anymore and so he's not healing.
Reiner does not act as if killing "Eren's people" is "okay".
The sheer weight of what he did, coupled in with his "Reiner is dead. If you need Marcel, I'll be Marcel" is one of the primary reasons for his seemingly split-personality back in season 2.
It seems that you've badly misread Reiner's character.

That's an extremely ignorant thing to say.
The AOT world is not our world where the Internet exists, and there are millions of sources of information.
The only source of information that they have is the one that's passed down to them by the adults.
Why wouldn't a kid believe what they've being told all their life, by literally everyone else?
After reading the history, was Reiner supposed to magically figure out how the Eldians on Paradis are not a threat?
It makes a lot more sense to hate them and view them as monsters, because everyone says so, the history says so, his very bloodline shows him how the power of titans can be used to cause destruction.
The history he was taught showed the Eldians as titan-power-wielding psychopaths who caused millions, if not billions of deaths.
It doesn't matter if you wanted him to magically be an omniscient being and automatically realize that the current Eldians are not that way, it's just not happening.
You can hate him, that's your personal opinion.
However, you're in no position to criticize a pretty valid opinion from someone else.

My comment's two months late but i liked the opening bec it felt more grim and realistic about wars in general. The 1-3rd season openings had a more romanticized / glorified tone. Kinda parallels how wars were viewed before the two WWs came to happen.
Other people have been saying the same in the comments, but yes, Eren basically was holding the trigger to a bomb by cutting his hand and talking to Reiner in the basement of an apartment complex that would kill over a 100 people watching right above + Falco and Reiner himself.
Reiner could NOT provoke him in any way because otherwise Eren would transform and kill so many people right in that moment. Eren at this point was, to put it in simple terms, about to commit a terrorist attack against civilians.
Simple terms that’s exactly what he did😂
He was waiting to see if Tybur would actually declare war. Otherwise there was no point in waiting.

Imagine if Reiner was the main character!
Eren and Reiner had similar arcs of infiltrating the “enemy”. Although, Eren has much more resolve and experience when he did this. Practically an adult.
Reiner was put into this as a child soldier and it broke him. 😞 Hence, his multiple personality disorder. He had to be someone else to do what he thought he had to do.
If Reiner was the main character he would've lost his family members and seen his whole future of death, all because his people couldn't stop sending titans over he sits in marley as if they wouldn't attack paradis to get eren aka the founding titan again.
The reason Pieck "created a rift" among the Panzer unit is because she only hugged one guy, essentially giving him preferential treatment (making others jealous).
Also, gotta say Dani is the most clued in and totally predicting things that are gonna happen. She was the first to say that the injured soldier that Falco was talking to was sus, and here, she totally called out that maybe Pieck said something to the Panzer unit when she hugged that guy.
I love all these theories, as a manga reader it’s so intriguing to hear how people think tell the story will com together already knowing what happens. I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the show!
The soldier whom yall think was either Armin or Historia, that took Pieck and Galliard away, also informed Zeke that he is needed at the gate. So that's where he went.

The further you get into this season and realise how disturbing it is the opening song (MY WAR) fits really well.
The tension in this episode is palpable. I love it so much. They captured the feeling of the manga or even surpassed it.

Well the walls were 50m high and basically they’re all normal titans but as big as the collosal titan. And theres tens of millions of them in the walls. Willy is basically saying our enemies have nukes on their side but the previous government didn’t want to use them so they could keep the peace, but now obviously theres a person who stole the power that can trigger the nukes. This is the whole world’s perspective on paradise island. A ticking time bomb that could go off in the hands of someone dangerous: Eren Jaeger

Y'all, willy isn't the villain he is just doing what he thinks is the best for the world (like imagine if you hear that a king of a hated country protected nukes for a century and then some random terrorist now has said nukes)
Some say that the person who dropped the peak with Porco is similar to Armin, but I don't understand at all. Because the height is different, and above all, the sharpness and color of the eyes are completely different.
eren's calm demeanor is even scarier cause you dont know what he's going to do.
This is one of my top 5 AOT episodes for sure! Every second was amazing, then leading up to that slow-mo Eren transformation after making peace with Reiner. Perfection. Morgan's scream at the end in anticipation captures the feeling of it ending perfectly 🤣. Also I'm happy you guys are not 100% anti-Reiner now :)

If there's a scene with two guys siting in a restaurant and all of the sudden a bomb under the table goes off, that's surprise.
the same but show you the bomb first, you don't know when the bomb is gonna goes off, and you see the guys start seating down and the audiences are dying to telling the guys in the scene. That's suspense
This episode is basically the definition of suspense

These women are all emotion, no rationale...
Women are always emotional, as the story began showing the point of view of the people on the walls they were already emotionally involved with them. If the story had started from the point of view of Marley's people they would defend them. And this can be seen in real life, when a woman finds out that her beloved boyfriend is a criminal and yet still gets on with him knowing all the wrong things he's done. Seeing them cheering for Eren without caring about Falco and taking pleasure in seeing Willy's death pissed me off a lot. Sorry my bad English.

@@marodonthemorone Until this point in the anime (I haven't read the manga) it's not possible to know for sure who is the most wrong in this story, because all sides have their share of blame. Up until 100 years ago it was said that there was a war against the Eldians that if they had won they would have exterminated all the rest of humanity. If this is true who are the real "Nazis"? The Eldians apparently committed many sins too and are also paying for them. Not that this is Eren's fault, but the Eldians managed to be feared around the world for supposedly decimating humanity for over 1000 years. Doesn't that look like Nazism to you? And if you're a manga reader, don't give me spoilers saying who's right, because what's under discussion is what you can understand until the moment of the anime.

I highly suggest watching the rest of the season from 9 anime. It has the bluray and it fixed alot of mistakes which was on the tv.
Alex's way of saying "Eren Jeager" and "Reiner Braun" at the beginning of the vid was very accurate imo. 😆

Yall should watch ep twelve onwards from 9 anime. They replaced the bluray with the tv version. The bluray fixed ALOT of mistakes that were on tv and improved the quality overall. Please watch it, because i want the new s4 reactors to watch the best version possible.

I remember first time I was watching this episode it felt very tense atmostphere the entire episode with Reiner & Eren talking to each other.
I thought Eren had choosed the house with innocent civilians to prevent Reiner to transform but then Eren kills those civilians by himself which I didn't like that he made that choice.
Great episode but I disliked one choice Eren did :), also great reaction

It's the anime trope where if a girl has a bunch of guy friends, if she goes one specific attention or gives them a hug/kiss etc., the others see it as special attention and will get jealous. So Galliard said she was breaking the bond between them because they're gonna be mad at that one guy now.
