- The 2024 Kia EV5 is looking to change the game. Yes, it's another mid-size SUV, but it's a mid-size SUV with a difference. Okay, it is a fully electric vehicle, but it's a very special one because of its expected pricing, which Australian executives have hinted will shake up the establishment - we're looking at you, Tesla Model Y.
In fact, the new EV5 could very well find itself with a sub-$60,000 starting price, which would see it undercut the Model Y by more than $5000. As such, Kia Australia has high sales expectations for the its new zero-emissions model, with it expected to become a best seller in all regards.
In this video, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Richard Berry deep-dives the EV5 at a local walk-around preview ahead of its national launch in June. He details its design, features, powertrains, driving ranges and all the other important things you need to know before it officially hits the road.

Richard’s back! I’ll be honest, I only watch CarsGuide content when it’s the incomparable Mr. Berry presenting.
Hoping for a decent ground clearance or after market lift kits, otherwise perfect for me.
Kia / Hyundai seem to have poor QC + R&D. Engineering design faults from one model often appear in the new model. They seem to be slow learners when it comes to solving design faults. Their cars look great though.
Really? I'm interested to know more. What design faults can you point to? I've had a Kia e-Niro from new in 2019, currently on 99,000 km here in France. There are a few parts of the design I don't like such as the switch to able/disable LKA not visible from the driver position and the drive mode button being down on the centre console not on the steering wheel (this is now rectified in the Niro EV). The car has been perfectly reliable so far, as has a friend of mine's 2017 Ioniq with the 28 kWh battery.... so I'm just wondering what is behind your comment
Did he go all the way to South Korea?
Where have you been so this time! We have missed you!
Where is how many Richard Berry measurement?? I guess 2.6 :)
again we are not getting high quality colbat battery..
I suggest that in order for you to succeed... because the global markets are not ready for the cars to be hybrid... 800 km diesel... or fuel... and 800 electric... and drive you 1600-1500 km in total.
At pricing over 50K, you could have two, 2023 Chevy Bolts and technically have more range at 255 miles of range each for 60K USD,
He’s talking AU$ not US$
Those wheels..... my eyes, the goggles do nothing!! Radioactive man...
4:15 I agree priced considerably less than the model Y - the base needs to be around $54k to compete the dual motor $62k. The model Y is far superior in every metric.
So many reviewers don’t mention there height when talking about legroom . What is your height for comparison purposes? Also what spec is this model?
Richard is 6’ish
Come for the car. Stay for the quirky presenter 😂
Ev 5 good. Hindustan south.
If I'm not forced to buy an EV, why would I spend $55-57k on this instead on getting an equivalent ICE for $10k less?
