Thank you, Matt and CarWow! Never been a KIA fan. However, from 02.01.2024, I've been a happy owner of precisely the same (as per the video) EV9 GT-Line in Matt Blue colour (except my second-row captain chairs are in relaxation mode, fully electric). I did 2000 km in one month, and every single one was packed with joy and excitement. It is just a pleasure to be in EV9. I'm from Finland, and January was the coldest in the past 8 years. Still, my average consumption is 28 kWh/100 km (that is 2.2 miles per kWh). And when it is at least +3, I'm getting 23 kW/100 km (2.7 miles per kWh). Would I recommend KIA? Definitely so! Edit: Some comments were saying that there were better choices for money. Cars are very differently priced in different markets. As I said, I'm from Finland. I was looking for a big SUV EV. What Finnish market can (or just about to) offer?: - Volvo EX90 - 119.000 EUR (110.000 EUR after all discounts) - 3 years or 100.000 km warranty (image Pixel LED or Air Suspension fix after warranty) - Mercedes EQS 4MATIC (base price) - 132.000 EUR - 2 years or 100.00 km warranty - Tesla Model X (non-Plaid), 6 seater, standard colours - 120.000 EUR (112.000 EUR after all discounts) - 4 years or 80.000 km warranty I paid 89.000 EUR for KIA (Including winter 21" tyres with rims, towing hook, and all possible features). We are not getting the following features in Finland at all: 2nd-row massage, front grill lightning patterns, LiDAR, and digital side mirrors). KIA has 7 years or 150.000 km warranty. The Navigation System and Audio Equipment have 3 year or 100.000 km warranty. The battery has a 7-year or 150.000 km warranty. Low-voltage battery (12V) is 2 years without a mileage limit. Finland's average public charging (DC) price is 0.25 euros per kWh (based on KIA's charging curve, which is very stable for a long time). That is 6.25 EUR per 100 km (60 miles) based on 25 kWh consumption. Home price (with all taxes and delivery) is 0.10 euros per kWh (in my case). That is 2.5 EUR per 100 km (60 miles) based on 25 kWh consumption. The current fuel price is ~1.70 EUR per litre (E95). So, in Finland - KIA EV9 is one of the best choices for money.

£65k+ though, its not realistic for the majority of vehicle drivers and you know it. EV's are an expensive and resource draining fad, that are going to end up a massive white elephant soon.
I’ve been on to Kia for a long time now, since 2008, when I bought a top of the line Sorento v6 4wd. I traded that in for a 2019 top of the line Sorento. Nothing has ever gone wrong or broke on either one. The cost of running them has been superb. No wasting my time waiting to get things fixed and zero expenses for anything but consumables such as battery, tires, wiper blades, fluids, etc. Neither of mine have had any squeaks, buzzes or rattles at all. Just smooth and quiet rides. It took a long time for people to realize how good the Korean vehicles had become.
just like everything else in life, nothing remains stationery. That includes car manufacturers. Lessons learnt, R&D, investment, growing expertise, etc. etc.
So, it is 40000 pounds less than the mercedes GLS you reviewed not long ago, but the panels are aligned properly doesn't have water inside the lights. Seems like a winner to me
I drive those exact roads every day and it's a shockingly bad surface with some horrid potholes. If the car felt comfy and quiet there then it's got seriously good ride quality!
I have a few observations after 1000 miles in my EV9 GTS. Day to day consumption for me is around 3.2 m/kWh. I managed a 320 mile trip without en route charging and ended up with 3.3m/kWh. That trip did not include motorways but it was mostly on 60mph A roads and I wasn’t dawdling. Winter range will be lower of course, but the real numbers are far from poor. The car is very comfortable, quiet and I did need to drive off road on a damp Scottish mountain where it performed well. Parking is straightforward - it is a big car but no issues in Morrisons car park between two other cars. Charging profile is very flat and rapid. For daily use there is no need to charge beyond 80% as that gives 280 miles on the GoM which is quite accurate. Charging overnight at home on low rate electricity is more than enough, so the energy cost is working out at around 2.5p/mile plus occasional en-route IONITY top-ups on longer trips which never need to be more than 15 minutes. The EV9 might be a big car but it makes sense if you need space. I’m 6’3” tall and I can easily sleep in it. It’s also the first of three EV’s that I have owned in which range anxiety isn’t a thing.
It think it looks a bit too toy-ish and too blocky. But it does all fit together, style wise. But too big for European roads and parkings. And you know these will seat mostly one person 90% of the time. As a freelancer, I need some significant space for my gear, but I'd still prefer a car that is 10-15% smaller. Maybe the EV5, if the range - with smaller battery - doesn't suffer too much. Not sure if I could live with the alarms and notifications all the time, though. Disabling them every time I get in, would get very annoying fast.
It's funnyhow body coloured mirrors denote base specification nowadays and black is higher specification. It was not that long ago it was the other way around.
Funny you mention that. Friend has a Porsche GT3. He thought my Evo 9 RS was the most expensive model cause it come from the factory strip down with no radio speakers or sound proofing. Black side mirrors also. My other friends’ 9 MR was fully loaded and almost twice the price😅
FYI, you can turn LFA and LKA off or on with 2 buttons on the steering wheel; you don't need to use the touchscreen. The Kia EV6 does this and I use it regularly with the simple press of two buttons on the left side of the steering controls, depending on what I want to turn on or off.
@@MrTinkx the seat position can be saved in 2 ways: The basic setting is the seat memory buttons on the door. There are 2 buttons for 2 positions. You could use 1 for you and 1 for the other person. What I prefer to do is to use both buttons for my 2 preferred seating positions; I created a second user profile for my wife, via the touchscreen, and because the seat memory buttons are linked to the user profile, she has her 2 preferred seating positions saved in the buttons. The user profile saves everything from interface language, to radio stations and accent lighting colour. I hope this makes sense, I have not made a video about it yet.
Morons that have helped to destroy UK manufacturing, UK jobs, UK economy, less money in taxes to the Gov to pay for services (NHS etc). Everyone that buys a KIA instead of any other make is a total moron
God I remember my first car in 2004 being a 1995 Kia…something or other and it was basically a tuna can on wheels. I remember my brother nearly falling out of it on a roundabout as the doors never shut properly. Credit to them for basically working their way up to luxury car brand. Just a shame they’re out of my price range now
Great Video Matt .... I moved from my BMW iX to the EV9 GTS 6 seat 2 weeks ago and I have not been disappointed at all ..... its a great all round luxury SUV .... Despite the badge snobs out there this is a game changer for KIA at this end of the market ... I miss nothing about the BMW and the extra seat and boot space are perfect. One comment on the range ... Its looking like 230 miles in the cold, wet and windy conditions is about spot on right now .... I expect when the weather improves it will get us back up to closer to 300 miles .... But my iX 40 was only getting about 180 miles this time last year in similar conditions so I am still pretty happy .
@@Antiguan_Dart Well the iX40 doesnt come as standard with Air suspension either so the ride and handling are very similar .... I will say that the Kia feels a bit quicker that the iX but the driver aids are more intrusive. I also drove the iX50 with the air suspension and it was not a significantly better experience .... and the extra cost for the iX50 was not worth it at all
The UK must have a massively more optimistic standard for estimating range than the US. In the US the same spec GT-Line has an estimated range of of 270 miles. Which is far more realistic than 330 for the AWD with a 99kwh battery.
@@jasonstewart764 I think it will be lucky to ever see the other side of 300 in the Dual motor spec ... But having averaged around 220 in the BMW I will be pretty happy around the 270-290 range in the summer and 220 in the winter cold and rain
That lane assist feature resetting itself is something to do with the Euro Ncap safety rating. I had the same issue with my wife's Lexus NX. Extremely annoying!
Why make it so hard to turn off though. My civic has a button to the right of the steering wheel to switch that off. Cant be that hard to have a physical button in easy reach for that stuff!
The "Leading vehicle is driving on" is also displayed on my MY2024 Kia Xceed as well with the forward collision avoidance, it steers and brakes by itself if the car detects an incoming collision. Love this EV9
It's also on my 2022 Sorento 😁, along with all the other safety features from EV9, and also, i can switch off that lane assist by a button on steering wheel 😁👍
@@NiagaraCanadaFilms I can't control surrounding vehicles but I can maintain my own concentration to make sure I don't hit them. Features such as this are completely unnecessary. Unless the car is capable of driving itself...
My family had a kia Sedona back in the day and so many of the features that care had has been repackaged and modernised by kia with this ev9 which make me so happy
@jcollishaw I mean the adult could sit km the middle row and swivel around to feed the toddler in the 3rd row as that row also has isofix, but yeah you can swivel the toddler that also works 😂
@7:17 - I could see that being very useful for a car seat for infants. You want them to be facing backwards and with this, you can put the car seat in facing forwards and just spin the seat. Makes getting the seat in easier and makes getting the infant into and out of the seat easier.
Matt is an amazing reviewer , funny , objective , professional informative and just fun to watch his reviews … I have the 2024 Telluride SX GT line and I love it , it has almost all the features this EV9 has … KIA has really almost become a premium brand
Kia tech is pretty great to live with on a daily basis. Having driven a K5 GT Line (midsize sedan) for over a year now my only complaints are the lackluster standard brakes and the trim level differences (no Bose on GT Line?) The infotainment is great and absolutely luxury car competitive.
a LOT of practical things in fact, like those two seats in the back that can turn 180 degrees, this will be a very useful feature. Bcoz you can put your toddlers there along with their mom, and she can keep eye on them to 100%. Kia is destroying competition, literally.
@@Do_Not_Buy_Kia_Look_After_UK you mean bcoz your gov does everything possible to chase car companies out of your country? or bcoz despite sanctions on China, they become most powerful tech nation on the planet?
Ahaha. Since nobody in the UK cares enough to build a decently affordable and reliable brand/car, people look to the imports. And that's definitely not the foreign manufacturer's issue. It's the UK's for being wayyyyy behind. Nobody's taking your jobs...you're not offering any in this range.
Matt just thought I'd let you know. If you press and hold the lane assist button on the steering wheel. You can switch it off without going through all the menu. That's how I do it on our Sportage. 👍
Just hold down the respective button on the steering wheel for a few seconds to turn off the respective safety function. No need to go into the options screens.
The brake sound when creeping forward is the parking brake disengaging with an electric motor. It has an “auto hold” function where you can take your foot off the brake while stopping in traffic. It holds the car with the parking brake.
Hey. Its actually to warn people around that the car is moving. I work for Kia. Its not coming from the brakes, there are external speakers around that area
As working class peasantry here in England I’m not KIA’s target audience for this, but if I had £77k I’d go to Barbados with the fam, all inclusive every year, for the next 20 years! 😂
"Leading vehicle is driving of" - is something I've seen on Huynday hybrid SUV that I had as a rental this year. It looks nice in the beginning, but after few days you want to stab the speakers with the fork because the keeps beeping at you all the time in the queue when you're not bothered to move exact same 12 inches the car in front of you did.
I use that auto regen function on my 2020 Kia Soul EV First Edition. It's amazing the level of technology on these Kias and it all works so brilliantly.
I hate SUVs (I like actual CARS, and with manual transmissions), but that thing looks fantastic - especially in that matte blue. KIA is going from strength-to-strengh in styling (and value?).
One day you might actually require some practicality, there's no way I'm ever buying a sedan again, wagons are so rare and it's basically wagon or SUV/CUV as the only choices. There's no point compromising on one car which doesn't do anything well (sedan), if I'm ever rich enough I'd have a practical vehicle and a two door fun one
A kilowatt is 1000 watts (W). 1000 W = 1 kW. A kWh or kilowatt-hour measures the energy usage of an electrical device or load. The higher the rate of power (kW) of an electrical device and the longer it is used (hours), the more electricity it consumes (kWh).
@@SynthFreaq you’re thinking of Tesla. No but seriously, design is very subjective, I like the details and thoughtful approach to function that Kia has got going here but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
You can turn the speed limiter off for good in the settings and u can turn lane control and the others by holding the buttons on the steering wheel for 3secs.
The interior design is NOT "simplistic", Matt! Simplistic means "ignores important aspects of a subect". The Kia EV9 does NOT IN ANY WAY ignore important aspects of ANYTHING! You meant "simple", (of course) but you wanted to sound fancy, so you used a word you did not understand, but had heard other people use wrongly. The interior is both simple, *and* a pleasure to be in. Just as the exterior is also simple, and a pleasure to look at, from all angles.
A real benefit of those captain chairs is to be able to have a regular ‘forward’ facing car seat be transformed into a much safer ‘rear’ facing seat, simply by swivelling the seat. Genius!
Saw one of these in the flesh today! Then found this review…. I’m ordering one today! I have a bmw ix and Land Rover disco 5. This car will replace both!
But it's a range rover and this is a Kia. People with range rovers want the badge and brand heritage. Kias heritage consists of N series hot hatches. In the end why spend more for an EV when there will inevitably be a Chinese equivalent available soon
Remember that with an electric car you pay a premium for a battery so you think you get cheap fuel, but actually you’ve paid a small fortune for a battery to store it in. Tax breaks are the only thing that makes electric worth looking at. Talking to a car dealer the other day they’re struggling to shift as many as they were since manufacturers hiked prices. They’re finding it even harder to sell 2nd hand evs as there arent the same tax breaks, so they were expecting values to plummet. Whether they’re right or not I don’t know
I work at a kia dealer and seen these for a while now. They do look much better in real life. Camera does not do them justice. And this blue looks amazing too, but it's a good looking car in gray and white as well
You can turn lane assist off by holding the button the steering wheel, the rear view mirror is also a screen which if you flip it down you can view a camera that shows behind the car.
Lane-keeping assist, as on all (most?) Kias can be turned off by holding down the auto-steer button on the steering wheel. Although it's still immensely annoying to have to do this every single time. Also, my dog was extremely freaked out by the audio when you were beckoning the car. 😉
This has to be one of the most energy packed videos ever by Mat! Plus the whole production value, visibly so much effort went into this. Thank you for this level of content. And what a cracking car, seriously impressed!
It's because these lying car reviewers are compensated very well by Kia and Hyundai to market their garbage. They have so much bad publicity because of fires, thefts, unreliability, HIDEOUS resale value, and poorly aging designs that they have to suck these guys off and send them home with an endless buttplug supply in order to prompt positive but disingenuous social media content revolving around their horrible little crap boxes. Don't fall for it, mate.
7:32 that position is really for parents when you have younger toddlers and babies in car seats during long drives. So, for parents I can see that becoming very handy especially if you have a inter-generational household. Kia is a South Korean company(ish), Asians usually live in inter-generational households so grandpa and grandma can look after the little ones during long drives. So, yeah it is a very rare and useful feature imo. Also, in families where you have say 4 kids with two older siblings and two younger siblings, they can talk and play games with each other during long drives. So, once again pretty useful feature imo.
4:43 this is true. It is expensive, but if you buy a Kia ev9 in Korea, you can buy it for 45000 pounds. And the price of bmw ix is around 90000 pounds in korea. So it makes sense not to buy Kia ev9 in a country that is not actually Korea.😂😂 + And Range Rover is close to 120000 pounds in korea.
@@koenbraggaar4380in Germany you can get a new iX with better performance for the same price as the sport line (80k€) 🥵 no seven seats though but it’s a bmw vs a Kia… it’s too expensive
Remember that in the 6 seat configuration, if you drop the back seats, the items in your trunk will fly through the gap and on to your floor. No big deal and I’m sure you can buy a net or something to stop that from happening.
Nice work whoever is doing your graphics. Nice motion tracking on the hubcaps, and then motion tracking & moving mask on the back hatch reveal of the trunk space. Kudos!
I just saw this one on the dealership, it looks pretty amazing inside and out ( I have never liked KIA until the last gen of vehicles, ALL of them look fantastic)
It doesn't...at least not in America. This completely top of the line EV9 is about $75k (starts at $55k) whereas a similarly equipped iX is about $105k (and that's not even the M60 version which can get bonkers in price).
When I was living in Bali last year I had a KIA Carens as company car. Not the MPV that was sold in Europe, but the current version which somehow while seeing this video feels like a smaller brother in many aspects of the interior.
Sorry, I just realised the comment went online without completing. I was meaning the interior was similar, for a large fraction of the price. I do like the EV9, however the price seems way too high and it cannot match interior "presence" of luxury brands. As for Bali itself, there are more than 4 million people living there, making it nothing so extraordinary when you are from this part of the world. You too can move there, providing your qualifications to obtain a visa, it's not that difficult. @@julianmcwey866
@@Matriarchy_Feminismlithium based EVs are an evolutionary dead end. In whole life terms they are more damaging to the environment than the vehicles they are intended to replace and so expensive they will end the freedom of personal transportation for the masses.
The extending bit in the centre console for the back seats extends further because you can rotate the seats. And then you could still use the 'table' if fhe seats are turned
I'd buy an iX M50 over the EV9, just because it drives extremely comfortable. And I like the looks - with the right color combination choices. I find this EV9 looking a bit too toy like. A RR looks & drives better too, obviously. Aren't EV's higher insurance? Because they are total loss much easier, when the battery or camera / sensor system is damaged.
Just got my EV6 with a really good deal! Really impressed, coming from an Audi high-spec model. Definitely going to buy Korean electric cars again. Wishing EV9 second generation to have adaptive suspension, since when I test drove the car, it did not do well with the bumps
I earn close to 90K euros and I think that is a pretty reasonable salary, I believe in top 10% at least - I don't mean this as a boast, I know people earn a lot more and also a lot less. However, I drive a BMW that I paid 32K for around 6 years ago and still run it. I am not sure what sort of income people are on in order to afford a car that is worth 65 to 77K. Even on credit it would mean spending up to a thousand a month and still not own the car after 3 years. Can someone please explain? Or am I actually poorer than I thought?
Spot on, I pay £750/month on a mortgage, why would I pay £1000/month on a car? It’s bonkers and for me, not affordable. It’s becoming very obvious that the motor industry is pricing out most people from buying (or paying for) a new car. As most batteries will only last 7 years before needing to replaced as a cost of £20-£30K, even new cars are going to be out of reach of most people in a few years time.
Same issue in the States. The people who can choose to retire early will be those who $pend on *appreciating* assets like houses & shares, not new, expensive cars that depreciate.
Same. I work a commercial job for a chemicals company though, and I know there are a fair amount of blue collar workers at the manufacturing site I'm at who pay off close to 1K/month on their car. All spec'ed out Audi's, Merc's and BMW's. They make decent pay, but not 90K, I can tell you that much. It's worth mentioning there are a significant percentage of these people on debt mediation. Some people are not very smart with money, and some creditors don't really care (or even cheer it on) when issuing credit.
The Kia EV9 looks like a game-changer in the EV market! It’s refreshing to see a brand like Kia stepping up with such a stylish and practical 7-seater. While Range Rovers have their own charm, the tech and features in the EV9 seem to offer a lot for families looking for an electric option. I’m curious to see how it performs in real-world conditions compared to luxury SUVs. Exciting times for the EV landscape!

That is why I bought a GT Sorento Diesel 2024. Paid AUD75K. EV9 GT is AUD140K, or two Sorento's. No value for money here.

Saw it live at Brussels airport yesterday and have to say that this looks really good in person
It also has decent acceleration rate. On par with even the R35GTR. 0 to 60 in only 4.91 seconds.
I saw it in Athens, it's impressive!!!

I have an EV6. Can you link seat placement to the key. When I use the car after my wife (even with my key) have to change profile manually.
@@Antiguan_Dart Well the iX40 doesnt come as standard with Air suspension either so the ride and handling are very similar .... I will say that the Kia feels a bit quicker that the iX but the driver aids are more intrusive.

The UK must have a massively more optimistic standard for estimating range than the US. In the US the same spec GT-Line has an estimated range of of 270 miles. Which is far more realistic than 330 for the AWD with a 99kwh battery.

I pay £800 a month for a BMX iX and only earn a little more than you.
Same issue in the States.
The people who can choose to retire early will be those who $pend on *appreciating* assets like houses & shares, not new, expensive cars that depreciate.
@MarkN67 Just as well then that most ev batteries have an 8 year warranty.
The rotating seats are designed to he used when the far is static and you move tge front seats in to create a little face to face meeting space in the car
I'm actually impressed Mat still has his 996 after all these years.
Will you review Mercedes estate?
250v 16A in a car is crazy! You can put a washer or dryer on that
when all the seats are folded down, is that sliding compartment so there's not a gap in the middle? Would be great for sleeping
I think it's just a tray extension so you can put more stuff on it when using it as a mini-table.
I hate to say this because I love Mat and watch every single video on carwow (drag race or not) : those glasses make him look like a serial killer from an American bad movie 😅
Thanks Carwow!! Great review !
I think Kia's been watching carwow. The EV9 is too perfect
13:51 🫠: "So you can actually see what's behind you" 😂
Just saw one of these, what a cool car. especially if you have a family. looks incredible.
09:32 what the hell is that noise you made sir?
I wish haters would try riding an EV and criticize it.
