I'm in NZ, and so we are in Southern Hemisphere summer. At the moment, I am getting between 19-22 KwH/100km on normal mode driving, driver only climate about 75% of the time, unless my family is in the car.
Good review, gives a good impression. I also liked the audio quality review, would be good if this can be done in more detail and for all the reviews you will do. On your noise testing, I presume this is done with dBA? Would dBC give a better idea what you can expect as this includes also the low frequencies?
Thanks! I'm currently using dBA. dBC has greater focus on low frequencies that's not disturbing for the human ear. Therefore I think dBA is more suitable for cabin noise testing. But I can try and see the difference. 🙂
They SO need to fix the stupid beeping. In my current car it beeps once and that's it. And if this thing is going to be beeping all the time it's worse than not having it. Why? Whenever I pass a side road here, there's a 30Km/h speed limit sign at the start, and my current Mercedes always picks it up, even though the road I'm on is 90Km/h, so in the end I'm just gonna get immune and ignore the beeping.
@@ItsOnlyElectric I do think the 99,8 is net from Kia, I saw a charging test and it’s was between 12-80% and they got 73,8kwh (in 24 min 🤯🤩) and that translates to about 108,5 kWh before losses (0-100%) But please do I proper rangetest 100-0% and charge it full again.
@macki5542 I charged it with 74,5kwh 10-80%. With 10% energy loss (heat loss, efficiency loss in harness and electronics etc) it gives a net capacity around ~95kWh. I will ask Kia officially.
@@ItsOnlyElectric you will get more energy in the last 20% of the battery than in the first 20%, but it would be nice to see a 0-100% charging test. I don’t think Kia will tell you.
Found this deep down in a technical documentation from Kia: "This means that the EV9 can be charged from 10% to 80% in only 24 minutes, which equals 70 kWh of energy delivered to the battery. " If that text is accurate it means that 99.8kWh is the net capacity.
It does but there are interesting issues with locking and unlocking the doors while you’re in it. Key fob won’t work. Only the lock/unlock buttons on the doors up front work. I spent an hour in a Wind trim level a few days ago. Couldn’t test drive but the dealer let me explore for over an hour. There is a utility mode, and you can run the ac or heating in the rear zone while up front is off. And there are four vents in the ceiling in the back. I’m 98% of the way there to convincing my self to replacing my current Honda CRV “camper” with the EV9.
This is likely the cheapest EV tower for at least 2000 kgs, unless I'm mistaken? At least for new cars. If an older car is ok the e-tron is fine, but is slightly lower rating actually. BMW iX is also cheaper used than a new EV9 here in Sweden, but the differnce is not huge, and it has the same 2500kg rating.
Great stuff, it would be even more helpful if you could provide some insight about the ride comfort/noise level from the 3rd row, because I know some 3-row SUVs feel quite different when you're sitting in the prisoner spot. Ioniq 5 is also noisier in the rear seats due to the motor. Probably a difficult task if you don't have any helper but a noise readout should be possible? Many thanks.
Thanks! 🙏 That's a good point. I could have placed the mic on the last row. My kids enjoyed their ride in the third row really much and preferred sitting there over the second row. But sitting there is more bumpy since you are sitting on top of the rear axle.
Yes, since a while back in Europe. Haven't seen any test specific test on the ev9. And if I don't get it wrong Kia is adapting the NACS standard in US. But keep in mind that tesla superchargers are using 400v and you will not get full speed with 800V cars like the Kia.

And hideously practical for some purposes. Like towing big caravans with an EV. Lugging a lot of camping gear around combined with a large roof box, and maybe some bikes on the roof.
@olavstylen6959 362Nm and FWD? It will for sure take you from A to B and work for a MPV. But a SUV will kind of loose it's S for sportiness, but I guess most of the buyers a RWD EV9 still live in dense areas and care more about the looks than the driving dynamics. 🙂
