CFI Checkride Break Down: Lyn Carlson 6/28/2021
Hello Everybody,
Welcome back to another update on my journey so far in aviation. I took my CFI checkride in June and life has been hectic for me ever since. I was finally able to take the time to make this video and upload it. Hopefully it brings insightful information into the checkride of a CFI. I understand some things said in this video may be controversial but I'm a transparent person. If you have any questions let me know!

Telling A DPE I spun a trainer! Chris Kaplan Interview
มุมมอง 6053 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short story of when I was a newly minted student pilot and accidently put my instructor and I in a spin in a 172. This was talked about in my conversation with Chris Kaplan DPE, who flew C-130's for 26 years and is now a DPE in the Southern California LA Basin. We discuss everything you need to know about multi engine checkride's and what his views are on being a DPE.

    Your question at 6:00 doesn’t make any sense… saying that twins don’t have to be “certificated for Vmc” doesn’t really hold water. I don’t know of any twins that don’t have a published Vmc speed. Are you trying to say that they aren’t required to climb on one engine?

    OMG..that was painful to watch. You can't have someone unfamiliar with SoCal airspace fly safety pilot for you, no matter their rating. He needed to be on that vector out of Brackett to KCCB. We have big, tall mountains around these parts. Where does Derek fly out of? Use your rudders is his best advice?!?!...go to Flabob and get some taildragger training.

    Too much trivial stuff like, “the check ride was delayed due to blah-blah-blah.” More storytelling than information on what to expect from a check ride.

    If you were planning the same xc flight but considering waas gps in the aircraft and a vor, would you still plan it using victor airways for the flight planning exercise of a checkride?

    • @Andromedon777
      @Andromedon777 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If using a VOR in any capacity, you would definitely want airways to make your life easier because it is all written out for you. If primarily WAAS and have VOR as backup, then no airway is needed, hence the major advantage of GPS RNAV

    Very good interview !! Most of DPE know very well their stuff. Which books they use for their knowledges like commercial instruments or ATP or multi engine ??? because some books are just good for the written exam but they are not in depth in the subjects

    As Justin’s CFI Initial instructor, Justin is the exception not the rule. Justin finished the entire CFI curriculum in less than 25 hours including flight time. Justin is a self studier and as you can tell he is very well spoken and presents himself well. Justin is a hard charger and a goal driven individual. Self study is so important and as DPE Lyn Carlson says, “The best instructors are those that are curious” I totally agree. The year Justin did his CFI, I trained 8 CFI’s and CFII’s for a total of 14 individuals all of which I sent to Lyn Carlson. It is totally unfair to Lyn to convey negative comments on her. She is hard but she is fair! I take pride in every CFI I train and I absolutely recommend Lyn for safe, competent pilots! Thanks Justin for the one mention of me in this presentation.

    I have some reservations about the legitimacy of the information regarding laminating documents. When I inquired with my Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), he suggested that laminating was permissible and challenged me to locate the specific FAA regulation or Advisory Circular that supports this claim. I'm curious to know whether this information is sourced from an official regulation or if it's more anecdotal. But hey good job with the lessons!
