  • Hello Everybody,
Welcome back to another update on my journey so far in aviation. I took my CFI checkride in June and life has been hectic for me ever since. I was finally able to take the time to make this video and upload it. Hopefully it brings insightful information into the checkride of a CFI. I understand some things said in this video may be controversial but I'm a transparent person. If you have any questions let me know!

I took both my private and instrument checkrides with Lyn. She is a wonderful person and used both checkrides as teaching opportunities. I feel very fortunate to have flown with her.

As Justin’s CFI Initial instructor, Justin is the exception not the rule. Justin finished the entire CFI curriculum in less than 25 hours including flight time. Justin is a self studier and as you can tell he is very well spoken and presents himself well. Justin is a hard charger and a goal driven individual. Self study is so important and as DPE Lyn Carlson says, “The best instructors are those that are curious” I totally agree.
The year Justin did his CFI, I trained 8 CFI’s and CFII’s for a total of 14 individuals all of which I sent to Lyn Carlson. It is totally unfair to Lyn to convey negative comments on her. She is hard but she is fair! I take pride in every CFI I train and I absolutely recommend Lyn for safe, competent pilots! Thanks Justin for the one mention of me in this presentation.

Thank you for this video. I’m currently flying out of FunOutside. I see that we have had the same instructors and flown the same planes. Keep up the awesome content.

Please bring back your Oral preparations videos, I used to listen to those almost every day when commuting to work or the airport

Lyn was the DPE in 2004 for my private. I thought she was super professional and fair. She thought I was super professional and prepared. ( I still visit the page in my logbook on occasion where she pasted a gold star on the line entry when I passed my exam with her).

What happened to your commercial oral audio book?! I loved that series I listened to them like 10 times

I had Lyn for my PPL back in 2007 and I enjoyed my time with her and have absolutely nothing bad to say about her. Maybe because she told me I flew better than Angelina Jolie whom she also instructed in her Cirrus back then haha.

Thank you for this info! Are you willing to share the spreadsheet you made for the added certificate hour requirements?

I created my own over time. As a CFI it's more about learning how to find things. I honestly found it as a huge personal growth experience. As a CFI you need to be able to rely on nobody else for things you don't know. You're going to learn legal lessons the hard way if not well prepared in the industry. Protecting your certificate is key.
