This is my favorite movie that I basically never recommend to anyone. You have to have a very strong stomach. Normally I will still recommend difficult movies but because of the animal cruelty (and the pivotal nature of certain scenes with animal cruelty making them important to the film) It's a very hard one to tell people they should watch because I have no idea who can handle it and won't be sorry that they chose the film. Still I think it's a brilliant satire and my favorite Yorgos Lanthimos by a mile

I wouldn't necessarily call this a death game, but The Thing (1982) reminds me of this somewhat. Have a group of people kill and threaten each other over the paranoia that one of them is not human and means the rest of them (and in fact the entire world) harm.

I got both books for Christmas last year here's some unorganized thoughts (spoilers under read more) Literally the entire introduction with Tangerine leaving AJ and the school behind for no reason isn't there. It actually starts out with her in the middle of the forest just trudging along. It's like they wrote out half of her entire story, because AJ, the school, and pretty much every person and event except for Lee and Kenny are neglected. Nothing about her past (the GAMES) are mentioned Also the "arrive at a safe settlement, find something wrong, the settlement falls, we have to run" formula was frustrating by the second book. Ricca the love interest literally builds a synagogue as a safe haven for herself and her friends, and the next thing that happens is zombies overrun the place and pretty much everyone dies I also found Ricca's backstory frustrating, I wear glasses and dude, even if any of those glasses were prescription, there's no way any of those glasses would have been her prescription The dialogue isn't actually that bad but it is painfully obvious. At some point Clementine just Tells The Audience (telling Ricca but her face is turned to the camera) all about her supposed trauma. way to be subtle, Clem same face syndrome is a really bad problem in this book. Ugh Will there be another book? Idk I kinda hope not. Tillie Walden deserves to draw a better series lol

As a coastal, fishing district, 4 might actually have contact with other countries or independent people outside of Panem. It would be fleeting and minimal, presumably, but there’s only so much control the Capitol can have out at sea. It would make sense that the Capitol would treat 4 better as a form of soft diplomacy. And rewarding 4 for being successful participants in the games would make them less likely to oppose it openly, especially to non-Panem fishers they might interact with.

District 11 is my favourite district, I think the people we've seen from there are so clever and interesting and subversive in unexpected ways. I'm so happy to finally see this deep dive. You probably won't see this, but your videos on the Hunger Games inspired me to write a fanfic about the Dark Days almost from an academic perspective? I'm not sure how else to describe it. Reaper Ash makes an appearance in the first chapter where we see some of the ways he may have been influenced by his community to behave the way he did in TBOSAS. I've had a fantastic time writing it and it's been so cathartic (even though hardly anyone is reading it) so thank you for doing these deep dives. On top of being very interesting, they also helped me worldbuild and create a more dynamic story.

I always thought Milton attempted to run away and either succeeded in disappearing (unlikely) or had an accident and was found off property by Dawn afterwards. There isn't a lot of evidence for this, but it does keep with the trend of the Finch boys having "death by nature", as well as explaining why Dawn knows Milton died with such certainty.

I really liked Finnick and Annie s wedding in the book, it was much more detailed. The dress, Peeta s beautiful cake , and how Plutarch and Coin had different approach to wedding festivity( Coin wanted more modest, and Plutach , being Capitolian , wanted more lavish party)...sorry to bother with details...

As much as I'm a district 5 fan I have to acknowledge that 11 really kick started ending Snow's tyranny. Rues death and Thresh sparing Katniss is when the Capitol's demise started.

I like Lucy Grey being Greasy Sae. It’s comforting to me, the idea that she lived to see the capital fall proper. That she had a family, grandchildren, and the most vulnerable of her grandchildren lived to be free. I don’t need it to make sense, I don’t think it’s true or the intent in the slightest. But feels nice

Also, zuko’s hair shows how free he is from the fire nation! for example, at book 1, zuko is shown to have a high ponytail, which seems to be tight, showing how tight the fire nation’s grip is on zuko, while in book 2, where zuko cuts his hair off, he’s completely free, yet his hair is short, showing how he WANTS to go back from the fire nation knowing he CANT, in the first half of book 3, his hair is put into a bun, his hair has regrown completely, he’s half free but he isnt…i dont know how to explain it..But I hope you get where im coming from. Then in the second half of book 3 zuko’s hair is long and open at all times, showing how hes left his identity ss the fire lord’s son and heir to the throne, and that hes completely free.
