District 6 has always been one of my favorite districts, and I'm still not sure why, but a contributing factor is probably because the female morphling looks almost identical to one of my aunts and they share addiction struggles, so I ended up crying at her death a lot more than I thought I would and now I'm very attached to District 6. Also 6 is my favorite number so that probably helps
Ever since getting interested in urban planning and the negative effects of car centric infrastructure, I'm always interested in the design of fictional cities. I find the design of The Capitol (in the movies) by the time of the 74th Hunger Games to be unique as despite being the wealthiest place in all of Panem with its citizens enjoying luxuries and wealth, there's a surprising lack of cars as going off what Katniss and crew went through during Mocking Jay, it seems like the citizens get around the Capitol via walking and taking public transit, namely the metro. There's a surprising lack of cars in the OG Hunger Games movies adaptation and at least from my observation, the Capitol is basically and pedestrian/transit oriented utopia (minus the shady politics and the Hunger Games, but the urban planning is good). Though in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, due to the movie taking on a Retro-Futuristic aesthetic, they're quite a lot of cars in the Capitol to simulate the automobile craze of the 1950s and 60s. While I don't think it's fully explained in universe, one reason why cars are absent en mass by the time of the 74th Hunger Games could be that modern cities today are acknowledging the damage that car centric infrastructure does and are slowly moving away from that a towards and more mix-use, transit and pedestrian oriented development. There could still be cars in the Capitol by the time of the 75th Hunger Games though they are relegated to underground travel as we see Katniss and the crew travel through what seems like a mixed-use tunnel with a road but also train tracks embedded within the pavement as we see a train transport peacekeepers and military vehicles through the tunnel. Contrary to what some carbrained folks have to say, the reason for the absence of cars in the Capitol doesn't necessary mean that "Oh, since cars equal freedom. No cars equal no freedom." The notion that cars and especially car centric infrastructure automatically equal freedom is misguided as there's not much freedom being stuck in LA style traffic. Actually if you look into it, car-centric infrastructure is a dystopian nightmare not to mention extremely ugly and destructive to the environment and inherently inefficient. Besides, if there was an Inter-District highway in Panem, there would be borders and checkpoints along the way. Cars, trains, and planes are at the end of the day merely tools that can be used for good and bad as one doesn't automatically equal freedom and the other oppression as they can be used for both. TLDR Trains good, Cars bad. Who knows, maybe the reason there's no cars in the Capitol by the time of the 74th Hunger Games was that Snow banned them because he almost got run over by one lol. Either way, sorry for the long comment, but it's interesting to look at the design of fictional cities because for all its faults (the oppression, authoritarian control, the Hunger Games, etc.) one thing the Capitol does right is its urban planning. Besides, the Rebels more or less reused the transportation infrastructure of the Capitol as Katniss and Peeta took the same high speed train back to District 12.
Well, I don't think gasoline, natural gas, or oil refinement are even mentioned within the books, and those are super large reasons for the modern dependency on cars-the main power sources in Panem are hydroelectric and coal.
Mad Max represents an alternative future: no public transport: just pimped out cars. Mad Max is more post apocalyptic rather than Dystopia. I’d say Bladerunner shows how cars would work in a dystopian setting.
The original trilogy does have cars though. In chapter 4 Katniss says "The cameras haven’t lied about its grandeur. If anything, they have not quite captured the magnificence of the glistening buildings in a rainbow of hues that tower into the air, the shiny cars that roll down the wide paved streets, the oddly dressed people with bizarre hair and painted faces who have never missed a meal" And in Chapter 6 she says "You can hear their cars, an occasional shout, and a strange metallic tinkling." Capitol cars were just omitted from the movies for some reason, but they exist in the first book lol
I think it's a combination of reasons 2 & 3 of why District 6 didn't play a bigger role in the Second Uprising. Because of their trade, Transportation, this would lead inevitably to injuries, and therefore District 6 would have to develope a pretty good Medical Field to cope with injuries (The better the care of the injured, the more likely they are to return to work). I think the Capitol saw this, and took advantage by flooding District 6 with morphling like you said. Thank you for the video! this was such an interesting deep dive in a District rarely talked about! 💜💜
4:19 I'd like to add the male victor from District 6 (I call him Michael) also devoted himself to the cause. But he died in the Cornucopia bloodbath. But much like Cecelia and Woof, he was a part of Katniss' allies.
Really do wish The Morphlings (I call them by their actors names, Megan Hayes and Justin Hix) had more screen time, and actually talked to Katniss, or get their true names revealed, but I really do hope their games might get the treatment of TBOSAS, but until they their books, I just enjoy the versions of the games Christian Blanco made in his fanfic on TH-cam, I feel so bad for Justin after watching his games, he had to kill his friend/ally/lover, and it broke my heart to see him to cling onto Morphling to cope.
One thing that occurs to me is that the large size and dispersed nature of the district may change their relationship with the games. In a small district like 12, everyone would personally know at least a few tributes who never came back. In district 6, it’s unlikely that this is true to the same extent. If we assume that fully 1/4 of district 12 is eligible age for reaping (given low life expectancies and high birth rates), that’s a pool of 2k, the size of a large high school today. District 6 would have at least the high tens if not hundreds of thousands of potential tributes. This doesn’t make the games any less cruel, but the threat of developing an addiction or sustaining a workplace injury would be much greater than that of being reaped, especially for people from wealthier communities where there is less tesserae.
Ah, District 6 is my favourite district! It's so interesting to hear your theories on morphling and how it's used to control the population! It would surely tank the whole district's productivity, but since they're the most populous district, they have the workforce to still function even with such debilitation.
The Female Morphling death In CF always made me sad. It was such a beautiful e nd and really shows just how kind Peeta was. Even in a death arena where they were all supposed to be going for each other’s throats. He still showed compassion and “that beautiful sky.”
A lot of good points and theories. I've also noticed that district 6 people area a lot more compliant and submissive types of people. They just do what they're told which is why they rarely come up with anything by themselves. I've never connected that to the capitol morphing but it all makes sense. Humanity is so easily influenced and the capitol, of course, takes advantage of that and uses it as a silent weapon. District 6 is a district ran by others because they are mostly compliant. It's a good thing the rebels succeeded in making them comply to go against the capitol. Also, I noticed they love to wear hats, could it be a hat district?
i’ve always wondered if the morphing comment was specifically about the two in the 75th or if that was the case for every single person from six who ended up winning.
In relation to the lack of cars in panem…it’s a pretty effective way to control the people and their movements. Less access to cars means needing to rely more on public transportation which is also a way of keeping eyes on the citizens of Panem.

For promotion for the hunger games films they did a series on five of the districts (2, 5, 6, 8, and 9) and collabed with TH-camrs , she was the one for 6
Imagine you live in a district of 750 000 which means there are probably ~40 000 Hunger games eligible candidates... and you get picked. Call that unlucky (took into account that population under 18 in America is ~ 22% of the total population so considering not all kids reach maturity due to hard living conditions, I figured 40 k is a realistic number)
Hi, Lucky. Will you make a video about the Capitol too? I wonder why were the Capitol citizens so privileged. Were they all important politicians, military people, businesses people, engineers, scientists and other key members necessary for a dictatorship and, if not, if they were regular people with avarage levels of skill and intelect, why would the dictatorship choose to offer them so many advantages? I also have another question: Taking into account that all the peacekeepers, weapons and industries are from the districts, how did the Capitol became the ruler of Panem? How did it gain power if it doesn't own anything really?....
A while back there was this series on TH-cam where creators would act like they were from a district, Ijustine was in the district 6 video. Idrk why she got 6 cause the district you got was meant to go with your style of content, for example science TH-camrs got district 5 and explained how the hydroelectric dam works. And cooking TH-camrs got district 9 and showed how to make bread.
I live in Ohio so this would probably be the closest to what district I will be living in. I find it interesting to make the Connection that has between there drugs and ours. Fetnal has been plaguing a lot of communities around me and it's very very sad.
Can I just check, are there any book references to District 6 citizens overall being addicted to Morphling? Because when I first read the books I got the impression it was their few surviving tributes who tended to be addicted to the drug, which I presumed to be their form of escapism when plunged into Capitol life, much as Haymitch ended up an alcoholic. I know Joanna refers to “those freaks from six”, but I always thought she was referring to the victors she actually got to know, not the district as a whole. I don’t know if I’m just not remembering a reference to the district as a whole, but I feel like we’re writing off an entire district as being like their most famous victors, when the entire point of the victors is that they end up singled out, isolated and horribly damaged.
Don’t get me wrong, if District 6 as a whole, even just in the movieverse alone, is addicted to Morphling, then I absolutely 100% buy into the whole Snow deliberately fed them the drug theory. It’s exactly what he would do. I just think we’re making a leap of logic that isn’t entirely supported either by the books or even by the movies.
@@yawninglion1677 A re-read it is then! I’ll track that reference down and update. Works out as in between new reads I’m re-reading the first book anyway.

(took into account that population under 18 in America is ~ 22% of the total population so considering not all kids reach maturity due to hard living conditions, I figured 40 k is a realistic number)
i would kill for a adaptation/series of like short stories of victors from each district
This needs more views
last sentence hit hard just so you know you ate
i think the capitol probably does flood district 6 with morphling, that seems like something suzanne collins would write
Omg immediately amazing
How did it gain power if it doesn't own anything really?....
not iJustine in the thumbnail 💀

More pls
why is ijustine on the thumbnail 😭
A while back there was this series on TH-cam where creators would act like they were from a district, Ijustine was in the district 6 video. Idrk why she got 6 cause the district you got was meant to go with your style of content, for example science TH-camrs got district 5 and explained how the hydroelectric dam works. And cooking TH-camrs got district 9 and showed how to make bread.
I Justine what are you doing here girl 😭😭😭
I live in Ohio so this would probably be the closest to what district I will be living in. I find it interesting to make the Connection that has between there drugs and ours. Fetnal has been plaguing a lot of communities around me and it's very very sad.
Now why is Ijustine on the thumbnail
I have the volume turned as high as I can, and I can still barely hear the narrator.
It's funny cause that part of America is known for they're love of sports and athletics.
was that Ijustine in the thumbnail?!
IIRC it's mentioned once that morphling is very common there?
@@yawninglion1677 A re-read it is then! I’ll track that reference down and update. Works out as in between new reads I’m re-reading the first book anyway.
Clicked on this vid a lil too fast😂

This reminds me of the cocaine issue that the CIA caused by purposefully putting cocaine in black communities in the 90s
