Just minimal photoshop work, mate. Unlike with the ‘Strontium Dog: The Killing 2188’ series, I wanted to keep the effects side of it to a minimum, as this is really a retro love-letter to pre-internet and technology times when all we had was our figs, 2D boards, and our imaginations. However, when I saw the lava, I couldn’t resist doing a little work to mark the passing of all those unlucky recruits. Thanks again for watching!

@@makinote Cheers for the question! Yeah, sorry, but despite playing a few times, I just couldn’t get into E:A, mostly because I found the rules about supporting fire difficult to get my head around. I have nothing against E:A though, and I know there’s a great community out there for it and many people agree with you! The way I look at it, it’s great that there’s different versions of Epic out there for fans to enjoy. 2nd Edition / Net Epic were what myself and Craig always played and we spotted an opportunity here to combine the two as LI rules mostly built off that system and improved things in some areas while 2nd / NE armies (surprisingly for a system that has been criticised in the past for having too much detail) are more streamlined than LI stat lines so speeds play. As for Horus Heresy, we have all of these 40K armies sitting there so HH feels very limited with so few factions. Again, no disrespect is intended towards E:A or any other system as we’d encourage all players to play what they enjoy! ~ Gordon

@@ちばちゃん寝る Yeah, I think it’s a shame that LI doesn’t have all of the factions that old Epic enjoyed (hence our project) because I think it would bring a new generation to this stonewall classic game! …or do you mean you’d prefer our reports to be 2nd Edition proper? We are enjoying our mashup of the systems at the moment but we have a lot of Net Epic reports in the archive which are 2nd Edition with a few tweaks which improved on 2nd. We’re hoping our tweaks with LI actually improve on what Net Epic did, but not everyone will agree, of course! ~ Gordon

He’s the silent - and occasionally violent - type! lol. I love the old Beastmen, and I personally think it’s a mistake that GW has decided to retire them from Guard armies, and any non-Chaos faction. They should be right up there with railings and ogryns, in my opinion!

Yep, I need to up my aggression I think as playing the long game isn’t really working out for me and I do take your point and know that others feel the same way. I think I have been slower in adapting my playing style to the scenarios as 30 years of habits are not easily broken. There’s always next time, though… I won’t lie, the next battle will not be a Titans v Gargants fight, but I’ll mention it to Craig and see if we can figure out something at some point! As I started out with 1st Edition Adeptus Titanicus and the four buildings that came with the set, it would take me back to the beginning of my Epic story so I’m definitely open to the idea! ~ Gordon

@@LifeofDie That’s where I started out too! Those old polystyrene things were mad, but lovely in their own way. Equipping titans with their own weapons and deciding whether or not to use the hardpoints was great fun, but not my favourite part of the game!

@@thesmoog734 Yes, and I still have those buildings! I really should use them again at some point! The Titan battle would be a good opportunity, I think… Yes, the Titan building was a bit of a pain, fine for AT but too much once vehicles and troops were added to the mix. @@MsNosis Many thanks for joining us again and for the questions! I take your point about the number of special rules, but we’re doing our best to retain all of the LI core rules which include the cover saves and the morale checks that you heard us refer to a few times. I’m happy to hold my hands up and say that, due to getting on a bit, I haven’t picked up the LI rules as quickly as I would have liked - and certainly not as quickly as I picked up 1st and 2nd Edition as a teenager! The reason we’re keen to play LI rules is because we think they fix a lot of the problems that we had with 2nd / Net Epic. We’re big fans of the garrison rules and we like that there’s more incentive to keep moving units in Advance orders as 2nd was more about getting units into position and then sitting on First Fire. We also like the variations in the missions as 2nd really only had the one (the Attack/Defend scenario was available but as it involved one player camping on First Fire, it felt more like a solo play mission) although I know others aren’t as impressed by them. In relation to the army rules, I think that’s fair comment that the Orks have a crazy number of special rules and I can understand why you’d gravitate towards Epic 40K which was far more streamlined on that front. We had been flirting with playing 3rd for a long time but it never really happened. That said, those 2nd armies are the ones we know really well and we find they are more streamlined than the statlines for LI proper so, along with wanting to get use out of our Epic collections with more than the current LI factions, that’s why we’re sticking with them for now. There’s a video (link in the description) where we talk a lot more about the project if you’re interested, but really all of the above sums it up! @@LifeofDie wow, did not expect such an exhaustive reply! Well, my own project is really nothing to linger on, it's just my own custom made version with favourite bits from various editions of epic. I doubt it will interest anyone other than me. But it was fun to put together :) Mostly I guess I find it intriguing how tastes can change, how some are fond of really streamlined rules, others want every single detail, and whenever you post a new video I am reminded of my own journey from 2nd edition onwards :) best of luck to you!

Yeah, we’re enjoying having a variety of different missions, but maybe we played 2nd for so long that we were ready for something different and to make us switch up our tactics. So far we’ve felt the games we’ve played have been interesting and enjoyable but maybe we’ve just been fortunate! ~ Gordon

@@LifeofDie I just don't like still having over half my army on the table but it's mathematically impossible to win after 3 turns. Armageddon had by far the best tournament scenario.

@@HeadCannonPrime Yep, I can see where you’re coming from there, but I feel that’s my problem for not quite getting my head around the tactics required to keep myself in the game. I’m still too focussed on preserving my own force and trying to break enemy units as I did for years in 2nd and that’s just not where it’s at for LI. It’s hard breaking the habits of a lifetime though… Yep, I know a lot of people who are incredibly passionate about E:A. I really did want to get into it because I know many people in the community love it, but it just wasn’t for me. (It was the stuff about supporting fire and angles that I struggled to get my head around.) I think that’s more about my age than anything and I actually think one of the things that’s great about Epic is that players have so many options to get use out of their minis. The various rulesets probably divide the community somewhat, but whichever ruleset is used, I am just happy to see this scale of game being played, and I love seeing the community’s pics and battle reports! Whichever version you feel passionate about, more power to you! Rolling dice is what it’s all about! ~ Gordon

@@phildevey6302 Thanks so much for this and I love your review! As someone who likes stats and probability, the 6’s fact is a great one to know! I agree that I’m surprised it’s as low but still pleasingly high enough that it didn’t seem completely unlikely that my Stealers could succeed. Rescue is one where I really have to acknowledge the involvement and contributions of the Space Hulk community on Facebook because, as mentioned in that episode, we knew that one was as tough as nails and asked for advice! So far as this mission coming to literally the last roll of the dice, it was incredible that it played out that way, particularly because it was the series finale! I hope you can hear how we were amazed by this as well and that there was no fudging to have it resolve this way. Obviously these are heavily edited so that they are tight and there’s no dead air for viewers, but they are true representations of how it all went down! Yeah, I’m curious to see how I get on in Deathwing as well as I have similar memories of it (I’m taking the Marines this time). Worst case scenario is that if it’s a total disaster and I lose the campaign before we get to the last episode, then we’ll play it out as one shots. Hopefully not, but time will tell! The ending to this one (Defend) was tremendous, it rounded off things perfectly, and you did get two chances to win it at 42% each time. I always thought it was natural, and had just happened like that. I'm going to go back to Rescue, and take some hints from your playthrough, maybe it will go a bit better this time. Looking forward to more hints for the Deathwing missions, and to seeing your very nice collection of terminators (I've seen the video of them, they look great). In my own games I use a complete mixture of things - 1st Edition rules (of course), 2nd Edition board sections (normally), 3rd Edition accessories (doors, flamer blips etc), and terminators from all over the place (1st Ed, 2nd Ed, plastic, metal, all sorts). I'll be watching the Deathwing ones whenever they come out, that's for sure!

@@phildevey6302 Thank you! Yes, my friend Simon did an amazing job with painting our collection! Before this series started, we did chat about whether to use the Deathwing minis from the get go, but as Simon had revived our plastic minis (they were originally painted in thick Humbro glossy paint back in the day) and we really wanted to be faithful to those first 6 missions which the box art and in the rules were intended for the Blood Angels, we had to go with those! Along with the fact that we are now mic’d up and will have even nicer minis, hopefully the Deathwing series will be taking things up another notch! Your set up sounds terrific, btw! That mix would make for a cracking looking set! I’m very jealous! Oh, and good luck with Rescue! ~ Gordon

@@jeromyfisher297 That sounds amazing and, with the atmosphere processor in Aliens in mind, we used to do something similar, placing the Advanced Space Crusade / Tyranid Attack tiles at the centre and linking Space Hulk tiles as corridors approaching the hive! 50 Terminators is an incredible collection, which chapter(s) did you paint them as? The next series will see us playing through all of the Deathwing missions, but it will be some months before you’ll see that series arrive on the channel because there is a lot of dice rolling and editing to be done first! As for the campaign book, all episodes of the Last Stand campaign can be found in our Space Hulk playlist! I should warn that while the format is very close to that which you’ve seen here, it doesn’t quite have all the bells and whistles that this series did. We do plan on playing through and filming all of those, but all of that will take us years to do. Rest assured, we *are* in this for the long haul and will not rest until we have episodes covering every 1st Edition mission released! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts! @@LifeofDie I have a fourth edition Ultramarine army as my core when I started collecting space hulk pieces so I stayed with the blue Smurfs. That way I had the scouts and tactical squads already painted that I needed to fill out the tyranid attack game. Still looking for a grenade launcher power fist for my captain.

@@kevinstricklen7579 I have played a bit of 4th Edition as well and did enjoy it, but 1st Edition is the version that we have the most experience with. Also, it’s because we plan to shoot every mission for 1st Edition (including those that use the Genestealer psychic rules) that we decided to stick with 1st Edition rules. I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all that players can play whichever version they wish or perhaps cherry pick the best elements of all versions to come up with a hybrid (pun intended) house rule version! Whatever you find best fun is always a terrific way to approach gaming! Thank you again for being so instrumental in providing such invaluable feedback when I was giving you a preview of the reports back at the start of the year. It was hugely instrumental in helping us shape and refine the format m and, as the next series will see us recording with mics, hopefully future reports will be slightly improved again for the Deathwing series! @@Anglerwave Thanks for the question! I can’t speak for Craig, but I do find the multiple stat lines on LI units tend to slow play down somewhat and, because I’m not as young as I once was, it’s easier to play with the older army lists due to me not even having to refer to stat lines at all as many are ingrained in my memory. We also find that this allows us to throw down larger armies on the tabletop and that it has more of that Epic feel that we’ve always loved. That’s said, I wouldn’t be against trying out LI proper versions of all other forces, just that we are really enjoying the balance of the game with our classic line ups. I also wish to clarify that I say none of the above as any criticism of LI proper as the three battle reports we did were good fun, even if we did make errors. It’s a personal preference thing and we love that there are so many Epic fans that have their personal favourite systems which all deliver different takes on the game! What about yourself, if they were to add more factions, which would you prefer to play? ~ Gordon

I’m guessing it’s those rock formations you may be interested in though, and those are several different sets from the Badlands range by Battlefield in a Box. Answering my own question after going back to the rulebook. I’m never noticed the rule about falling if you’re pinned and within an inch of a ledge. That adds a whole new aspect to the game for me. Thanks for the education; that’s partly why I watch vids like this to pick up on things I have missed.
