@@Anglerwave Thanks for the question! I can’t speak for Craig, but I do find the multiple stat lines on LI units tend to slow play down somewhat and, because I’m not as young as I once was, it’s easier to play with the older army lists due to me not even having to refer to stat lines at all as many are ingrained in my memory. We also find that this allows us to throw down larger armies on the tabletop and that it has more of that Epic feel that we’ve always loved. That’s said, I wouldn’t be against trying out LI proper versions of all other forces, just that we are really enjoying the balance of the game with our classic line ups. I also wish to clarify that I say none of the above as any criticism of LI proper as the three battle reports we did were good fun, even if we did make errors. Hello guys, im brand new to epic 40k (still building armies) and havent decided what rules set to play and feel a bit overwhelmed with it all. Your video was helpful and very interesting though. Thank you!
@@TheGreyWolf94 Hi there and welcome to Epic scale battles! In relation to the rulesets and, on the assumption that you don’t know anyone who already plays it, I can provide a little guidance; first of all, what armies are you looking to build? Are you looking to buy current Epic minis from GW which are restricted to armies of the Horus Heresy only, or are you looking to have the whole sweep of 40K armies which includes the likes of Eldar, Orks & Squats? If it’s Horus Heresy, then Legions Imperialis would be the game you’d want to go for as you’d want to buy the starter sets for the minis alone so may as well play the version they were designed for. My main problem with Legions Inperialis is that there is a lot of detail for the stats for each of the units you’ll field in your army and that generally means you’ll have to play smaller games than with most of the systems that preceded it. If you want to go full 40K, you will want to check out Vanguard Miniatures as they have terrific proxies - or try to pick up minis from older versions from eBay. @LifeofDie Hello Gordon, Thank you for your in-depth reply, that was super helpful. I am looking at more 40k as that's what I grew up playing and love the nostalgia of it all. I've started Ork and Imperial guard armies, luckily I have a 3D printer and have found good STLs but I'll definitely check out Vanguard miniatures, thank you! Unfortunately, no one in my area seems to play Epic or even Legions Imperialis much as it's very much standard 40k only, which I fell out of love with around the 6th edition. I am hoping to build some armies and get people involved through playing. Thank you for the links, they're super helpful and I'll definitely give the podcast a listen. Thank you for the great advice and kind words. Your battle reports are amazing and so satisfying to watch. Looking forward to more. Thanks again - Kye
@@TheGreyWolf94 You’re very welcome, Kye! And that’s very helpful to know a bit more about what you’re looking for from Epic. I would say not to bother with 1st Edition as it’s similar to Legions Imperialis in its complexity but also because there are a lot of units in Epic which weren’t introduced until 2nd Edition. 2nd Edition Space Marine, or the fan version of Net Epic Gold is largely what I’ve played throughout my life so I would feel comfortable recommending it. In our Epic playlist, there’s quite a number of Net Epic reports, so you would get a real feel for the how the game operates and sweep and complexity of the game from those. I do heavily edit the videos though, so actual play time probably takes around 3-4 hours for the size of games we play. Epic 40K was regarded by most fans as too abstract back in the day, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it more recently. Certainly, if you’re not looking for too much grit and something that maybe plays faster, it might be worth looking there. @@Gwoerny Hi! Thanks for the question and for the interest! I would say that it’s an ongoing process but our experience so far has been that the games have been pretty balanced.
