What is a £1.00 Train Ride in Montenegro Like? 🇲🇪
It's our final day in Podgorica, Montenegro and we decided to take the cheapest mode of transport available to us to get back to the city airport...a train.
The only problem is we have a flight to catch, limited time and a lack of knowledge about Montenegrin trains and not a huge understanding of the language, what could go wrong!
The upside, the train ride only cost us £1.00 each! So join us in this video to see if we make it on time and what such a cheap train journey looks like.

Is this the WORST Capital City Bus Station in Europe? 🇦🇱

    I don't count that as a bus station. That's more of a car station where they offload long distance travelers. You won't get a nicer one in Zurich either... it's just a large parking lot with car buses.

      You know, I actually agree, the camera I used in this video is rather decent, but I had just got it and didn't know how to use it to it's best potential. We was watching it back a while ago (as we film them in advance and release them each week) and was like yikes, the quality could be a lot better haha! Debated whether or not to post it but most people can look past it on smaller channels with a smaller budget like ours. Thankfully, I spent quite a few weeks tinkering with the camera and filming practice shots around my city and learnt how to use it, so the videos from Wales which get released two weeks from now, the quality drastically improves as I actually realised that I was setting everything up wrong. A big part of good content is video quality, so I do agree and they do subsequently get better after the Montenegro/Albania series. Thanks for watching! 🙂

    There is actually 3 bus stations in Tirana. I have been in every of them and i haven't even think about complaining about them. When travelling with public transportation in Albania you sometimes need relaxed and adventurous mindset because they don't always go on time or there is often cases there is no bus going at all. Luckily if these places are not shiny enough for you, there is plenty of other countries and cities to visit in this planet!

    • @TeamMcGrath
      @TeamMcGrath 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Mate, we traveled on a bus in Oman and got pulled over by the traffic police for our safety (for some reason). We are not adverse to an adventure, and I was just pointing out that for such a modern city with a rich history, architecture and culture which it has clearly invested in, it has failed to invest in it's primary bus station and let me add that we arrived from Montenegro, so it was our first ever look at Tirana and set a negative tone for what was a very pleasant experience, I'm saying the city and it's people deserve better than that. Saying it's not "shiny" enough is a cop out, you should want better for the country too, turning a blind eye to areas for improvement will not help improve anything, pointing this stuff out is what drives change after all. Thanks for commenting regardless, and thank you for letting us know about the other stations too, we shall give them a look when we next visit! 🙂

      @TeamMcGrath 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I read a comment recently regarding this, I'm hoping they build a better station for the city itself. Many people visit Tirana by bus and this is the first impression of the city for many, we were shocked when we got into the city centre only to find it was one of the most beautiful places we'd visited in quite some time, the bus station doesn't represent the city well and it deserves better as the contrast between this bus station and the beautiful architecture of the city itself is very surprising.

    The ‘Bus Rapid Transit’ project, worth 110 million Euros is under construction right now & major state of the art train station which will connect the airport & the coastal city of Durres will open (I think) in March 2025. The city of Tirana will have 2 bus stations and the first one is already open. This modern TIRANA EAST BUS TERMINAL opened in 2023 and is located near the intersection of E852 (Tirana-Elbasan) Highway with Tirana Ring road, in the South-East suburban area of Tirana and is open and functioning for over a year now.

      This is great news, Tirana is in desperate need of a nice modern bus station to suit it's beautiful city. It was the very first impression we had of the city and as a capital city we were surprised by how poor the quality of the main terminal for the city was. It's great to hear that Tirana is still being invested in and I look forward to seeing these new developments in the train station and bus station when we return. Thank you for the information and taking the time to comment, it's much appreciated 🙂

    Since you mentioned all the good stuff about my country I have a few moans which even i who now living in UK get a reverse culture shocked over. “Avash Avash” is roughly translated slowly slowly but in our context it means take it easy, don’t stress but what it really means is everything happens the day after next Tuesday. The queue jumping thing can be explained as a psychological residue of 50 years of brutal scarcity under the communist regime where qeueing meant ending up with nothing. Every car wants to run you over and you could be waiting hours on a side of a zebra crossing. The macho culture. You probably noticed unless a couple or family males and females sit in separate tables in coffee shops and they signal or pose to each from a distance but hardly ever goes beyond that, something which I find hilarious to watch. If a man dares approach a woman his friends will make fun of him as being gay or overly romantic 😂. Beauty standards among the young which irritates me. Although Albanian people are naturally good looking all guys want to look like white drill rappers and all girls like Kim Kardashian in Instagram behind 20 layers of filtration and makeup

      @@aureliogj7966I agree man, I hear a lot of negative stuff in the press and from people about Albanians, yet every Albanian I have personally met has been kind and welcoming to me. There is probably bad people from Albania, but there is in England and every other place on this planet too. But to vilify an entire nation because of a few people is wrong and I for one hope that people wake up and realise that the people of Albania are good hearted and kind people. Not once did someone try to rip me off in Albania and not once did I feel threatened, but I got robbed in Greece and noone ever gives the Greeks a hard time, and it's because the few shouldn't ruin it for the many, but it seems that people don't give Albanians the same leeway and I'll never get that. I see some baffling comments about Albania, so I feel compelled to provide the actual details... 😂 We are outoctonus to Europe, Muslim religion was forced by Ottoman Empire ruling.....50% of Albanians are Christian ( and Orthodox), not counting the growing number of atheists and agnostics. The statistics on Google are outdated. Not only is the Orthodox Church situated just a few meters from the mosque, but Albanians are incredibly tolerant of religious differences, not just in theory but also in practice, and we even get extra holidays! 🎉 Oh, and when the Pope visited, he dined at a Muslim restaurant where they had hung a cross in his honor.

    Well Podgorica isn't that interesting for many reasons. First off it isn't a historical Capital, that one is Cetinje, which is much older filled with old architecture, museums, churches, and historical sights. Podgorica became a Capital after WW2 during the communist regime, when it was called Titograd (named after Josip Broz Tito) and since then is just a govermental-business city where most of the companies are located and work is done, ande due to flat landscape it had a place to grow and become the biggest city. Montenegro's tourist attractions are elsewhere, on the seaside and in the northern part which is filled with beautiful landscapes and mountains. Its like in US or Australia... no one really goes to Canberra or Washington, but Sydney and New York

      I must admit, it was nice to have the place to ourselves. It's just sad to think that many people won't experience this beautiful city. Monte Negro is one of the oldest Slavic states in all of Europe. They are ethnically both Serbs and Montenegrins like Austrians(Germans and Austrians at the same time). They have their own history but the hard one since that most of the territory used to be under Ottomans and the coast under Venetians. A Communist legacy left ugly squire buildings like anywhere else in Eastern Europe.

    You're probably not used to paying cash anymore but that would be one of the reasons why I love Montenegro. The less cards, the better. Btw, that Konoba Lanterna you glanced over, is one of or maybe the oldest house in Podgorica. As for Red Cafe... The famous place for the highschoolers from across the road.

      No way, we went to Konoba Lanterna for traditional food, it's our next video in fact! 🙂 The further we went into Podgorica the more we found places which accepted card, the big shopping center was a good example and I covered that in a later video too. All in all I loved Podgorica and am hoping to go back with family to share just how beautiful the country is 🙂❤️🇲🇪

    Nice to see you exploring places outside of the tourist areas. Granted that in Podgorica you might not have had much choice, but still it feels like you travel slightly differently to most TH-camrs/instagram channels. And while I understand it's worth pointing out to people that a city is or isn't cheap - and I don't think you did anything wrong - but it's important for all to realise that while somewhere might be cheap and accessible to westerners, that might not be the experience of locals when you look at local income. Cool video, and great to see your approach to tourism. Thanks 🙂

      Thank you very much, we feel England is often misrepresented on TH-cam where people try to showcase the negatives over the positives showing decaying towns and high streets or poverty and destitution. Now of course we have those things but we are also an ancient land steeped in tradition, folklore, history and beauty and that is the side which is neglected in favour of showing the bad side for a few extra clicks. We're going to go against that grain and prove that England and indeed the UK has just as much to offer as any other country. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂

      I think you could be right to be fair, I was saying bott-is-fud...but then again that's probably down to my Peterborough accent haha. Fingers crossed a local comes along and helps out haha!
