What's it Like OUTSIDE the Tourist Areas of ATHENS Greece? 🇬🇷

We must start by correcting the intro of the video, this is our 2nd time in Greece, we visited Kos a while ago before we started the channel and had a bad experience there too when we got followed by a group of men into an alleyway but got out before anything happened thankfully!
We was debating on whether or not to return and decided to give the mainland a go and came to the capital of Greece, Athens...unfortunately, within the hour of being there we got pick-pocketed on the metro and realised we were staying in a rather dodgy looking area too.
Nonetheless we decided to go and explore the city, we were on edge for most of the day knowing that quick-handed thief's were on the hunt for tourists like us, but we pushed through and met some wonderful people, had some great food and saw some great views along the way.
This video does not seek to glorify (nor vilify) Athens in anyway but instead show you two sides of the city, the beauty and its great people and the dark underbelly with its crumbling graffitied buildings, thief's, scammers, beggars, people sleeping rough and the harsh reality that travelling here can be dangerous in parts.
With that all being said it was a memorable trip, that's for sure!

You have to pay attention to your phone and wallet on any public train or bus.

Very true, we have definitely learned our lesson and will be more cautious in future 🙂 It's crazy as we spend a lot of time in London which is also known to have issue with pickpockets and never once have we been robbed there, I think we grew complacent as a result but will now be a lot more aware and cautious on future trips home and abroad. Hi there, remember I did tell you that in Greece, it is not a case of if, you will get ripped of, it is a case of how much. Here is a tip to anyone who visits Greece. If you get in a taxi in Greece, tell him where you are going, sit in the front seat, put your gps on your knee set to where you are going in full view so the driver can see it. If he veers from the map question him. If you get in a taxi and there is no meter, GET OUT! Whilst Greece is a nice country the same cannot be said for the people.

Glad you're OK mate, edgy places like this are edgy for a reason. I'm a Manc and some places in Manchester are shocking. Urban and quaint don't fit together.

Thanks mate, it was certainly a shocking experience, but a lesson well learned too. We will be a lot more cautious on public transport in future, we visit London a lot and it's never happened to us there so we probably became complacent in many ways, but we didn't let it ruin the experience. Nice! One of my colleagues is from Manchester, we're moving up to York in the next couple of years so I'd imagine we'll become well aquatinted with Manchester airport as that'll be our closest airport at that point.
