Man.... You designed a whole new class around banners... Good job! Too bad Anet are so limited in their designs of skills.

Banners should function as a kit which you can cycle through like elements, allowing you to carry and wield them while maybe pulsing 1 or 2 boons per banner and activating for more and specific thematically appropriate skills. Maybe toggled and wielded, maybe replacing heal utility and elite skills, maybe being some kind of f key 2 actions + a swap button thing that works as a back banner. 2 interesting actives, a passive effect, a way to cycle them.

None of the classes are recognizable to how they used to be back in the day. Banners had skills and could be picked up, ranger spirits and Guardian weapons walked and follow the player, mesmer had rng condi elements, and others existed too. The pruned for esports and they pruned for trinity and they pruned to make elite specs but never readded mechanics.
@@DoamBot I think those mechanics are way too ahead of its time, and now its a perfect time to bring it back 😆
@mandalaputra2787 They weren't let me explain the esport prune was toning down animations so the viewer can more easily identify classes and see combat without the constant animation blurr. Elite specs was just chopping up classes to resell to us later like Guardian tome. They worked just fine at launch and led to the foundation of the player base being made and people complained at the time but the devs literally insulted the player base and did it all anyway. They wont bring them back those things were class identity and they are to focused on everyone being able to do everything which is bad because then they have to balance for everything. As an example wow and ff14 have a handful of support specs but in gw2 they tacked it on to every class and so we have more supports to balance leading some to be unseen and completely worthless. I dont think Ive ever even seen a specter theif in the open world.
@@DoamBot I agree, though as a new-ish player, it helps me to stick with my "main" knowing that my class can practically do anything just like other classes. But i get that the uniqueness and inherent roles for certain classes are lost. Regarding balancing, i do think its just game devs trying to push players into playing certain classes in a certain way. Even with the nerfs, im still playing with my warrior 😅 though i play mostly solo, so i dont really care about min maxing
"Bannerslave" was always a thing. Warriors were stat-buff bots even when Arah was the only farm in the game. Banners would've likely been a much more interesting route to take warrior over the gutted adrenaline system that neo-anet ripped from GW1. GW2 has an issue with role design and gameplay loop homogenization across all classes. This was evident when the game launched and only 3-4 out of the 8 classes mattered.
A lot of stuff is still broken. I think they test skills only on golems and bosses that stand still only. Engi aim assisted rocket and mech jade mortar fly over enemy heads all the time. I think they could balance if they group weapons and skills and make them the all the same just with different effects except maybe weapon 5 to make it different for each class. Maybe make the elite and maybe the heal kill slightly different. They could make all 5 of the core specializations the same for everyone except for maybe the master tier. All specializations could have condi on top, support in the center, and power on the bottom.
Interesting Warrior ideas. Let's nerf the class some more instead.
Controversial take, I preferred banners back when they could be picked up and used to smack people around.
as an ele main back when i was reading about this rework last year with a thief main friend i just thought this on the spot what if the banner still let you carry it if you interact with it when dropped, but instead of having it's own weapon bar or a blank weapon bar you just "strap the pole to your back" and carry the banner arround as an aura that still pulsates boons and time out as normal, with the combo fiel if it has one existing only when droped. also, you will be limited to only carry one banner at a time replacing the first one and instantly dropping it in the spot if you attempt to carry another banner. same current numbers just make the banners some sort of a "commander like" aura paragon of bufs while it's raised in your back

Strength 2-3-3 Defence 3-3-3 Berserker 1-1-1 Berserker Amulet, Rune of scholar, relic of Midnight King, sigils of Savagery and Exploitation, you can put sigils of Revocation insread of exploitation for boon removeal. With fury you get 101% (XD) crit chance in Rage, and can stunlock-oneshot entire teams with 2x Rupturing smash. - well, have fun smashing.
@@captaincrapface7337 I have been trying more of forgiving version for I am not good at berserker (I am slow) I am using Marauder and Rune Of the Warrior just to learn the combo first.Using Discipline + Defense for easy times (still can kill people but since I am slow a bit take time) One thing I noticed evades and blinds really counter this build for me have any suggestions?
@@quatron9561 blinds - simple thing, you get resistance from [Bloody Roar] and [Restorative Strength] meaning right after you Rage, and right after you use [Blood Reckining]. Try holding onto blood reckoning for when you need it, rather than sticking to 2x burst combo. That + some practice will let you oneshot blind spammers. When it comes to evasion, not much you can do *directly* you gotta try and approach teamfights form an angle, if you can and/or go for mixups opponents won't expect. When you Rage, everyne expects Burst, but dependng on distance just walking up to people and hitting them with [Staggering Blow] might cath them off guard. Also Primal F1 has a large AoE, and hits trough walls, if you have any terrain close to you, you can use it both for cover, and to conceal startups of your animations. That's mostly it. - rest it patience, patience, and accepting that some builds just will counter you, and going for teamfights/skirmishes rather than 1 v 1's. (holding sides against shit like good axe DD is at best 2/8 matchup.)

When u said "their balance philosophy; kill it before it lays eggs" are words that hits on the nail, this is literally what they do, and some players also thinks like that, but it makes no sense at this point, since it doesn't translates well on practice, they just nerf and give no compensetion for the other specs to be playable, so they basically just don't nerf the a tool for spellbreaker, but the whole class and the other cripled builds are just (even more) wounded dogs now.

This is something I hoped Anet would try when they made banners a bundle-styled mechanic for a brief period of time. I also really miss being able to pick up a banner if the current position is bad. The current pulsing boon effect just feels like it doesn't last long enough for the skill to be worth using a slot on the bar for. It's just... worthless in every game mode, I feel. Hoping it will improve some day, but it looks like that won't happen for a long time
it would be very cool if they gave the warrior the ability to cast all banners and pick them up one by one and combine them for an effect or a temporary weapon with eliete like attributes for the skill. but anet got lazy on warrior
they could make it like herald and make it use so much adrenaline so basically make it a (-1-2-3 adrenaline) production. but anet would actually have to program something new for warrior. which they wont do lol
I think after a strong inital effect with a short duration there should be a weak/minor benefit(not necessarily a boon) with a persistent massive radius that is center on the Warrior and follows you. "You rally the squad, now they are phyched up and ready for action." It's easy and straightforward to understand. I think the Soldiers Focus from Tactics should be built into Banner somehow for support role purposes. It could require traitline investment or not imo.
if you asked me to be a dev for anet and to fix banners, what i would do is give all warrior banners the ability to finish down enemies or to res allies upon banner summon, team can pick up banner as a staff or spear temporarily and give the banners a condi debuff or cc to enemies while giving opposite to allies. that would give warrior new purpose in the game and not be a useless class. i like warrior but more specifically spellbreaker. the other builds are mehhh
I would lean abit more into the conjored weapon stuff.. exept make it like a toolkit on engi with charges..

The warrior with the banners to me is like an inferior version to the one that can be used by the enemy npc's we face in the game. Even some of them can use them as weapons. Not to mention that the use of the spear on the warrior with skill 1 is only ranged, unlike the ranger who has chain and ranged.
warrior is the most fun class but also the most screwed.
Anet should just delete warrior at this point.
maybe. i’m of the opinion warrior can still be very good. but it needs a very different approach. the thing with banners is that as much as they offer boons, if an enemy walks into the aoe boon area it should give a negative effect to enemies and at the very least act like a cc skill. warrior banners are similar to ele conjure weapons, but they’re worse. personally i like the ele conjure weapons but anet needs to bump up the effects so more players are inclined to use them. i think the same thing should happen to warrior. warrior should be bumped more so there’s more to explore with the gameplay of a warrior. i play with ele a lot and have made a really nice conjure build for wvw zerg. it works pretty nice, but the damage out put is weird. if anet just made one of the conjure weapon skills with 30% more damage the conjure weapons would be amazing. same thing could be done with warrior banners if they brought back the ability to use those banners with attacks but also bring in more effect traits for battles. anet should run wild with these obscure builds. lately i’ve been playing with core builds and they’re pretty great for some professions, but anet needs to stop being lazy and bump up the core builds so they can compete with elite specs

an idea from someone who has no idea what does warrior do we want power dps and boons/heal, right? how about this auto: 3 hot combo that gives good adrenaline and aoe fury and/or barrier on last hit 2: leap to target in ground to deal aoe damage, cripple enemies hit in area and heal allues hit in area by a bit, could even give... haste? i don't play on english, the boot icon boon 3: channel a block, can be pressed again once after the channel finishes or it blocks damage to do a shout that deals aoe damage and heals for a good amount, interacts with shout traits. burst: hits someone for a lot and stuns them in place for a bit 2 and burst can be other way arround even
I apreciate the effort, and fresh perspective, however... Making mace deacent AoE weapon, whilst having good healing, and a channeled block, would flip it completly into overpowerdness. Warior's powed budget over the years have been continuusly funneled into traitlines and elite specs, which leads to the situation we are currently in. Mace would have to be restricted to single target damage, and have limited acces to actual healing (hence barrier) not to birth another hyper-sustain-teamfight-spb-monster-build like we just had to put in the ground by removeing evade from spear F1 and nerfing staff healing by 1/3rd across the board. I see the reasoning behind your concept, but i also see the risk you (for obvious reasons) didn't attempt to work around.
@captaincrapface7337 to clarify the channel block thing i meant it to work as the mesmer oh sword block, just a bar that fills over time until you get hit and flips into the other button cuting the channel short

Hi Cap, this comment is going to be a bit long. What you say in your videos is true and seeing the infinity of builds for all classes in the game without a doubt the Warrior is.... By far the most disadvantaged class in pvp. Seriously, there are rangers with dual maces that have and do more dps than the warrior and revenant combined. And now you see rangers and engineers with maces again, build support type. In my opinion, the warrior is like this on purpose, a fun class in wvw and pve, but in pvp you have to sacrifice and overlap traits that do not serve in the long-medium term in the games. The shield, mace, spear, mandoble, longbow, pistol, axe and warhorn are nerfed to use them properly. I have 2 of them, but with these new "swings" they keep getting left behind.

I for one would love to see the mace auto do some confusion on top of your changes, I think weapons should more than just one single purpose
Well, it has more than one purpouse. It helps capitalize on setups, stick to targets, helps with solo and group survivability, enchances boon upkeep, provides barrier & allows for synergy with 11 core traits. There's no reason to glue condis on top of that, especially considering how bad of an idea mace condi zerk already turned out to be.

I wonder if just making mace skill 2 block an attack, or ending the skill gave enough adrenaline to perform a burst skill, so at least you could combo it to make a lvl 1 burst
Great video, nicely structured and concise; keep it up! If I can voice a thought about the skills you proposed, the idea of a mace being a blocking/counterstrike weapon feels off to me. It's small-ish heavy stick with a heavier thing at the end, and the big "THUNK" experience is what it's all about. I personally feel that blocking and fancy counters belong more with shield and sword, respectively, at least from a thematic standpoint. I would keep the leap, but how about instead of the third skill being a block it is a boonstrip hit that removes defensive boons and makes something vulnerable (as if you're literally putting a big dent in their armor).
I tried to keep the rework mechanically adjecent to what current mace is. I absolutely agree that IRL mace is specifially known for being an all-in zero defence option, but honesly GW2's interpretation of weapons is a travesty with a crankshaft to begin with, and it's better to focus on mechanics than to go bald from anger due to thematic inconsistency.
@@captaincrapface7337 Fair enough, I personally like going hard on theme more than a mechanical focus but I imagine that's also due to the game-modes I prefer to play. If the goal is to stick close to what's already there then these ideas seem perfectly serviceable to me :)

It's insane that ranger maces, probably the funniest and most satisfying weapons in the entire game, and warrior maces (mostly main hand) exist in the same game

Wait in what way are all these weapons worse than sword mainhand xp. To me atm no weapon right now is more useless than sword mainhand....... cause its litterly a condi weapon with 3 skill beeing a clunky Animation that can be more than easily be dodged a 2 skill that does not hit at all 99% of the time an a f1 channeled skill that is the only okayish part xD
"condi weapon" - casually crits for 8k on every button except autos. Occasionally criting tor 11+k with no vouln. Immob acces, cripple on gapcloser, and bleeds with no condition damage in the build easily stack up to 1k dps whenever you hit your burst, or skill 3. Yes, the QoL complaints are absolutely valid, but on the other hand, having up to 24-6k dmg on DPS setup in your mainhand alone, combined with swords great mobility, quiletly begs to differ.
@@captaincrapface7337 hmm yea also to be totaly fair ..... i think raiting the weapons totaly without a (i prefer x) mindset is litterly Impossible. For example i would never rate pistol offhand over Dagger offhand since the latest one does quite good dmg, abit of boon remove, vuln stacks, some barrier plus selfhealing and relfection on top of swiftness while pistol does just dmg and one Aegis proc and some vulnerabiliy If im right
MH sword is only condi for PvE endgame. Look up MH sword numbers, in competitive is better at power than condi.
Yeah my roaming berserker relies on sword for kiting and bonus it does good damage.

I really hate the dagger leap. The mh sword with bulls rush is my combo of choice.

I have a question, would a combo of two two-handed weapon become a better set than it is alone, Im thinking main hand only use 1.2.3 skills and off hand is the 4.5. Like being able to use Rifle and great-sword at the same time. Think 'titans grip' from world of Warcraft. Sure longbow would look more jank than ever but just wonder what skill combination of two-handed weapon would become better.
Not really, most twohanders are a complete package, and only combinations i might see working is just slapping staff 4&5 on anything and everything.
By the way, i know this is a warr channel, but i would really like to watch your take on other class weapons as well. For some reason i feel this is better than a class guide
The leaked dev chats from anet should say enough,as they did 2 years back or so. Where the dev said he couldnt wait to see the thief tears after nerfing stealth to the ground. It actually got me a full time bann from their forum for posting it there. Their balance team is just god aweful and it has been for years. I think shortly after Hot got released a change happend.
