      Good day Mike. When I was 16 and got my first car the state safety inspections were performed every 6 months. There was a push recently to eliminate the safety inspection but I think it fell through the cracks at the State House. LOL In addition to the safety inspection, people who live in more densely populated counties of the state require an annual emissions test. It cost me $100 to drive get my state inspections and stickers. They hook the scan tool up to the car for the emissions test. Check all the lights, tires, brakes, wipers and exhaust. They also check for holes in the body and floor pans. Yes, basically it is designed to keep the roads clear of rolling rust buckets. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

      My KIA is nice. But the favorite car I ever owned was my 1999 Mercury Sable. I bought it used with 60,000 miles and drove it until 199,000 miles. The transmission was acting funny and I did not want to break down on the highway. I replaced it with this fine KIA back in 2013. So, I've had this car for 11 years now. Too funny Bob, I just recorded me doing the front bakes on our mini van a couple of days ago. I plan on making an episode with it as well.........Your brakes and underneath of the car is very clean compared to our 2010 van and any vehicle here on the northern coast..........You wasted $$$$$ changing those rotors for sure. I will say that most mechanics will tell you that you should never open the brake resovoir only to top up if needed.........unless you break a line it will never need to be opened........there is enough fluid in there to compensate for brake wear and no need to open pushing back the caliper piston........the main reason for not opening the resivoir is that brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air...........and that is one of the key characteristics of brake fluid that gives it it's high boiling point......on older vehicles the fluid will tend to get dark from use over time...........a change of fluid for a 10, 15 or 20yr old vehicle may not be a bad idea...........for your fairly new car there you would be wasting time, money and risking on having some trouble with it..............if it's not broke.......don't fix it Bob.............my two cents worth. Great job on the brake replacement!

      I know the feeling about making a video about the same topic. Last year that happened to me regularly. LOL Let's face it, we are all doing the same things. However, we can learn from watching others, well at least I can. I would always cut my grass from the outside in blowing my clippings to the middle. Well, I watched one TH-camr who would cut starting in the middle and then blowing the clippings out. It works a lot better when grass is thick. my car is 12 years old now. LOL I think it looks pretty good for the age. That was the first set of pads at 183K miles. When you get a nice day, turn on your camera and do that brake job. I will watch it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

      Brake fluid is a hydrophilic liquid. It absorbs water and it is said to be detrimental to the braking system. I should have done this at the 100K mile mark, but I didn't. So, I will try and get that done soon. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

    Good evening Bob. We don't have any type of vehicle inspection sticker or expiry dates in my area. Your brakes look pretty good and very clean. Doesn't look like you drive on any dirt / gravel roads. Some of the things I do when servicing my vehicles brakes (Spring and Fall) is clean all parts thoroughly. Replace any worn-out part. Apply Never Seez / Anti-seize to the surface of the hub of the rotor / disc that makes contact with other metals. Clean the new rotor / disc with brake cleaner. Lubricate the caliper guide pins / sliders. Lighty sand brake pads. Apply light amount of grease on rear of pads, clips and caliper where back of pads make conta, etc. I am on dirt roads a lot and our winters have a lot of salt on the roads so I service my brakes twice a year. Have a good one!

    • @botabob
      @botabob หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did grease the caliper guide pins and I cleaned the new rotors front and back with brake cleaner. That was done off camera. I also lubricated the sliders (around the 6:30 mark). I used a wire brush on a lot of the parts again off camera. Salt is used to treat our roads also. They also spray a liquid on the roads to per-treat them under certain conditions. I try to get my car's under carriage washed once a week during the winter. I like the idea of grease on the backing plate. The front brakes were not as bad as the rear brakes. The rear brakes were starting to hit the clip that grinds. I ordered the parts last fall and finally got around to putting them on the car. I'm glade that job is done. Thank you for sharing your tips. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

    That sounds good in theory to pop a hole in the filters but as I can see it didn't save much or any mess.............LOL. As a H.D. mechanic Bob I hope you can appreciate me bing full of comments here about your oil change. Your holes in the filter would have worked better if they were at the outer edge of the filter end.........there still would have been spilage of course, so this was not needed at all, in my opinion. I see you fell victim to dealership marketing and paid extra for the brand oil and that aditive is just a complete waste of $$$$. Kubota's are among the best engines ever built.......I have spent some years in rentals where we had lots of light towers and gensets. Many of these were powered by Kubota engines similar if not the same as what's in your tractor........and larger 4cyl and 6cyl as well. These engines never ever got brand name oil and definately not any additives nor did they get regular on time service intervals. You can mark your clock at about 20,000hrs for these engine before you have to touch them for anything. As we say in the industry they are bullit proof. Your tractor would probably need at least two more Bob's after you are gone to get those hours on them. Oils: with only a couple of oil refineries making oils and hundreds of brands that have to meet benchmark paramiters for quality...........if you shop by brand your are wasting $$$$$$$$$. In summary, it is pure preference on how messy you are doing the oil change..........a mess is enevitable so it's a balance of a little mess or slighty larger mess. Oil is oil slippery and wet........only worry about the grade and diesel vs gas engine oil because there are differences.........save yourself some $$$$$$$$ and buy what's on sale at your local discount store and leave those $$$$$$ grabbing aditives on the shelf for the next fool. True story as I am writing this Bob! I was at my local Can Tire store here gettins some oil for one of my small gas Briggs and Stration engines yesterday. I am looking for SAE 30, that's just straight 30 weight oil. I find it on the shelf and there are two rows of it but only one row of everything else. The young fellow stocking shelves near me comes by and ask what I am looking for and I tell him, just 30 weight oil. He then reaches in amongst the rows and pulls out a similar jug with 10W 30 on it and says it's all the same 10W30 and SAE 30............well........I then had to educate this young man in as gentle as I could about oil...........after that he thanked me for the oil lesson and seperated the different oils into their own single rows............one row for 10W 30 and the other SAE 30. Sorry for the rant Bob........I really like that bendable green funnel thing.......that's a great idea.........Cheers!!

    • @botabob
      @botabob หลายเดือนก่อน

      The green bendable thing is called a Form-a-funnel. Of course, you can purchase an number of knock-off brands now. Thanks for the rant. I never look a the price. I just buy what is on the owners manual. Also, I don't mind buying the Kubota brand. I buy my oil locally to support my local Kubota dealer. It gives me an opportunity to talk with the sales staff and they help me a lot with getting my parts. I tried to punch the can close to the edge, but the punch kept slipping. This was the first time I tried to do this trick. Next time I will use a longer punch and heavier hammer and try to get closer to the edge. Feel free to give your opinion here Bryan. You have a lot of experience and knowledge to share. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

      @@botabob Looking back, it was a rant for sure. I definately agree with supporting your local dealer if they don't rob you too much for the same oil that Walmart sells.......LOL. I am due for a rant on ev vs gas for lawn and garden equipment......LOL. I will do this on camera for everyone to hear .......LOL Have a good one Bob........O degres here today I guess that 32 for you.....only going to 3 or 4 today.....hard to get shit done....LOL

      I agree Mike. I am the worst when it comes to oil changes. No matter how hard I try, oil will end up where it should not be. LOL - I saw this on a car care video and thought I should try it on the little BX. I learned I need a longer punch and heavier hammer. I will try this again next spring. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

      It's a first for me also Joseph. I got the idea from TH-cam and thought I would try it. Overall, I think it worked very well. It did make the oil change a little longer, but I hate having oil run down over my crankcase and wires. Well worth the extra time. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
