That's a lot of work but a job well done Bob. Take care my friend.

I'm trying to make it easier for the logger to deliver firewood poles. So, after I cut these trees down, I called the guy who delivered my last load of logs only to find out he sold the his business. Just my luck. The new owner has not returned my call for logs. SMH Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the journey - cheers

Heb Bob, you got the tree down safely, that's what matters. The tree never went in the planned direction and that makes for a good educational video. You see, there is always a positive way to look at things. Have a great day and as always, Play Safe.

Very true, I'm trying to generate a little interest with the title of course. I was glad the tree went east and not west. After I looked at the video, I see a couple of issues that I need to address. I'll work on that in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

I don’t drop a lot of standing trees anymore.
Sometimes it is necessary to, but I have enough downed stuff to deal with anymore that I just don’t do it.
When I did, I have 2 40’ barge ropes and a couple long straps and a host of log chains.
I almost always use the Humboldt Notch. I take an extension ladder and climb the tree as high as I can safely go and hook chains, ropes, and straps. Then I hook to a tractor, usually one of the John Deere’s, and start pulling to put tension in the direction of my intended fall.
I watch between my cut and the top of the tree and readjust the tractor to increase the pull on the tree.
I am not trying to pull it over with the tractor, just making sure that the tree is over center in the direction that I want it to go.
This method has served me well over the years.

Thanks for the advise. I bought me an arborist rope and used it on a locust tree I took down on a neighbors property. It was a challenging job as it was actually three trees that grew to be one. The rope helped a lot. I will be the first to admit, I am not good at felling trees. So, I don't do it very often. The reason I cut these trees down was to make it easier for the logger to deliver firewood poles. When I bought my property in 2008, all the trees on this land were three to four feet tall. Now that I removed them, it has really opened up my wood yard. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

Thanks Larry. I'd love to send this down for Robin's summertime campfire wood bags. I wasn't going to record it, but since the first two dropped so well. I figured I would record it. LOL It never fails that once the camera is rolling, things go sideways. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

Thanks for the video and being willing to publish even though it did not go to plan. I know that I have a lot of things that do not go to plan, but we figure out a way to get the job done. Thanks for sharing. -Tod

Thanks Tod. After watching the video, I see a number of issues with the cut. I only was about an inch higher then the face cut. And the back cut was at a slight downward angle. I'll work on that the next time. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

I get my music from a guy who plays in front of the train station in Vancouver, BC. He plays extended jams based on classic rock. If you would like to give a unique gift, he will compose a song for you and your special occasion, birthdays, anniversary, etc. I always put the information about his channel in the description and pin it at the top of the comments. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

You were not wrong, it was a lot of work to clean up that tree. We are always very nervous cutting down trees

    • @botabob
      @botabob  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, cleaning up by ones self is demanding. In some ways it's good, because I can be a little unaware of people around me when I have a power saw in hand. But to have someone clearing the limbs as you go makes the job a lot faster and easier. I always tell people working with me to be careful around me and the saw. I'm not intentionally reckless, but I rarely have help to think about. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

You got that right Vern. LOL I kid you not, the first two were text book. I turned on the camera and the wheels came off the wagon. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

I wish I was there helping you cut those trees Bob. Of course the two off camera were perfect and the filmed one went wrong……….always the way it is. Now for my 2 cents worth……..I would had that notch much larger. I would have went 50-60% through the tree with the notch and then back cut it and you will have much better luck. Great video!

I could have used your help. I will give your suggestion a try the next time. I should have taken a closer look before I finished the cut after the tree set back on my bar. And yes, once the camera is rolling, the wheels are likely to come off the wagon. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

LOL - yeah, I should have taken a closer look at the cut after I got the tree off the bar. But you know the old saying, hide sight is 20/20. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
