Can the Royal Enfiled Himalayan compete with a dedicated trail bike....?
Well done for the update. Many riders wouldn't venture out in such conditions, let alone off road! Great save with the 'stuck in the mud' section. I really thought it was going over. I watched the BMW display rider (at Bike Live) walking round her 1300 BMW, and balance it without issue. Its easier said than done! As for revving the nuts in neutral: I thought you were actually rocking the bike to create a less aggressive channel in the mud... again, I appreciate your honesty 😂. Until next year, stay safe, stay upright. P.S. I was born in West Walton, so not far from your stomping ground 🫣
In retrospect, it was an off road jaunt that would probably have been best avoided! Haha. In all honesty, I'm not sure how I held it- I thought me and the bike were going in the puddle! Not far away at all! Where are you based now?
@TheHimalayanDiaries I live about 5 miles south of Middlesbrough (Marton-in-Cleveland). 3 of my sons and family still live in Norfolk (close to Norwich), so I'm regularly treading the black stuff for visits etc.
Came across your channel earlier today, like your content, watched several videos & subscribed. Happy Holidays 🙂
Welcome aboard Mark! Have a great Christmas!
It just goes to show that you're human... the outtakes made me chuckle! From my family to your's, I'm sending season's greetings. Have a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025. Thank you for sharing your Himalayan Diaries 🖤🩶🤍
Wishing the same to you and your family Iain! Have a fantastic festive period!
Have a great Christmas and fantastic new year to you too. Cheers for the videos and look forward to next year.🤗
Thanks for supporting this year Simon! Have an amazing festive period! See you in 2025 😁
fabulous vlog i went for the dunlop d606s front & rear in the end cracking tyres so far ny riding is 50% on road 50% off on my 411 keep doing your thing really enjoying your vlogs cheers russell
Thanks Russell, I'm glad you found the video useful. Happy to hear the Dunlops are working out for you ☺️. They're not a tyre that were on my radar so I'll take a look!
I did a test ride on a 450 yesterday. Impressive on the highway, very powerful and agile. But it’s not a machine to ride comfortably and peacefully in low revs. The softness of the engine and the ride begins from 3-4.000 revs. Below that it’s like a hammering, very unpleasant. The bike is not an upgrade of 411, it’s totally a different bike for different tastes, different riders. I’m keeping happily my lovely 411😊
Like you say, very difficult bikes! I almost feel as though the 450 should have a different name as it's a big departure from the 411. I'm glad you're enjoying your Himmy! Wishing you many years of happy riding together!
Great reviews, I went for a pair Kenda K761 tyres for my Himalayan and got them for £135 for the pair, definitely more road oprientated for me. So far great tyres, better than the nobblies that were on when I got it and were no good for the road. Next summer I'll keep your reviews in mind, thanks.
£135 seems like a nice little deal! I'm glad you found the video useful. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I have a pair of these, very cheap and hard wearing, buy scary on greasy damp roads.I'm going to swap them off.
So far loving them, quite sticky, I'll keep my eye on them, thanks
nice overview; i use the Heidenau K 60 Scout but i take it easy - my wild times are over. No Info of mileage yet
Mine too! Haha. Safe riding!
Stoked 😉. Fantastic review, and very touched by the mention 💙
My pleasure Iain. Thanks again for the video idea 🙂
@TheHimalayanDiaries oh, I'm full of ideas 🤣
@@iainrutherford184 🤣
I have TKC 80's front and rear and have no problems on the road at all . atb
Ah, that's good to know 😊.I may well go for a set after the Anlas's have worn out. Good to try different options
They are releasing a new TKC80 early next year with better compound for better wet road grip. They won’t last longer but suggest aTKC 70 on the rear for that. Great summary, just what I’ve been researching too.
I'll look out for them ☺️. Thanks for your feedback!
I am looking at the shinko 700 when the time is right, still got loads of tread left on original ceat's
There's so many options to choose from, we really are spoilt for choice
It did take longer to wear in 705s than I expected, so be patient.
@@JasonFollett ok, good information, how many miles / km's ?
You did the right thing. And... they kind of ruined the look with the new 450 design. Kind of a bummer. 411 is great and knows exactly what it is. The 450 aesthetic looks like its attempting to punch above its weight, which it really can't do.
I've seen some video clips from India of the 450 engine in a 411 frame. If it comes to the UK I think it could do really well
That would be awesome!
The Napoleon looks appalling. Like those scooters which resemble Harley Davidson.
Looks like the bike is gonna have a lot of weight to pull.
You're right, it definitely doesn't look like weight saving is the main aim haha. 200+ kg for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer to 220
No thanks
I am an Expat living in Indonesia. Here we are familiar with the Benelli, Keeway, Benda family. It is a huge Chinese consortium. Here all these bikes are sold out of Benelli dealerships. These bikes are already being sold in Malaysia and the Phillipines. We too are promised them for 2025. The LFC 700 is a V4. Benda have a TH-cam channel Bendal Global. I currently ride a second hand Keeway V250 FI. The convoluted marketing strategy of the Chinese is well illustrated by my bike which is sold around the world under many different names. Hanway Bullit VBob (Belgium), Longja V Bob 250 (Phillipines), RKS Light 250 & Mondial Nevada 250 (Turkey), Bluroc V Bob & Mondial Nevada V 250 (Russia). The engine is the Yamaha Virago 250. I can't afford to buy a Royal Enfield here they are twice the price you pay in the UK. They are offered as a premium brand. Keep up the good work.
I was blown away by the width of that rear tyre... absolutely mahoosive 😮
It really was!
The Benda brand will probably sell better here with the Keeway name on it. On another note I saw a short video last night on YT about a 440 Scrambler based on the original 411 Scrambler. I've had a quick look online for it but it comes up with mainly the new Himalayan 450 in the search results. Have you heard anything about it?
Hi Simon, I completely agree, it's not the best name for over here, although in all honesty I don't think it would put me off buying one. It's a little cracker. In terms of the 440 scrambler I've seen a few videos on it from Indian YT channels and can't help thinking RE are struggling with sales for the 450 in its current guise so are offering this too. I do find it strange that there's been no UK noise around it though. It would surely sell in high numbers. If I hear any more I'll post a video about it, I just want to make sure I'm fully informed first 😊
The CF Moto does look like a lot of bike for the money. 👍
For the price, I think it's hard to beat.
Any idea if the bars are the same size as the scram411?
I can't say with absolute certainty, but they share a lot of the same parts, so I would imagine so
@ thanks for the quick response, I will check with a Dealer. Great video btw
No worries. And thank you!
Your bikes wiring under the seat looks so neat. Mine was a mess. I sounf the atock hand guards from RE to work the best. But i need to carry extra long M8 Screws as thats the qekest point. The screws bend on impact.
BMW F450GS concept was definitely my favourite of the show. Also very interested in the CFMOTO 450, the Tenere, Transalp and the 790 KTM adventure.
Traditionally, I've never been a huge fan of the way BMW's look, but there was something about the 450 that just resonated with me. If they price it well it could be a strong contender!
@TheHimalayanDiaries totally agree with you. I was also very impressed with the BMW offroad display. Unbelievable bikes and riders 😉
Its a gorgeous looking bike. I can't understand why manufactures cant offer a upgraded version to non A licence people like they used to. That bike should be kicking out 75 BHP!
All re 650 models known for stiff suspension
Triumph 😂😂😂
bear is what interceptor should hv been from day one.
i hated the bear, its a interceptor 2.0. But i loved guerrilla and classic 650.
As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have to admit' that I'm rather fond of all of them
hate is very strong word. we should use it wisely.
The Classic looks better at the back when someone sits on it and squashes it down a bit!
I've just hopped across to your channel and subscribed. What a treat to get early access! It really does make a huge difference to the audio quality! Keep up the good work! Out of interest did you pre-arrange or just turn up early on the off chance?
@@TheHimalayanDiaries Great to add another channel to watch here 👍 The noise was staggering! Luckily I had earplugs with me for the rest of the day. I need to get a camera lady but will need a considerably bigger carrot to get her to come along 🤪 If you join the RE Riders Club on the website (free), you can get notifications of upcoming events and this was one of them, was just lucky to stumble across it 👍
Likewise! Fortunately I managed to trick my camera lady into coming, although I'm still not quite sure how 🤣. Thanks for the tip! I'll take a look ☺️
I hope you enjoyed the show. I was there yesterday and had a fantastic time (kid in a sweet shop). I managed to find the RE stand and wasn't disappointed with the bikes. Some real beauties!
We had a great day thanks Iain (well I did, I'm not too sure the wife would agree haha). But you're right there were some absolute crackers there this year. I'm going to find it very difficult not to spend some money next spring!
Thank you. I very much enjoyed this series and have managed to track the route via my OS maps app and create a GPX file of it. Hopefully get a friend or two to do it with me next summer. I very much applaud your considerate riding style. It is very important that all of us on motorcycles give way to pedestrians, cyclists and especially horse riders. Killing your engine was exactly the right thing to do.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you found the series useful and can use it to create your own mini adventure in the not too distant future 😊. When it comes to green laning I'm a big believer that the safety of others needs to be our number one priority.
I've had my new and 1st motorbike for 3 weeks now... just when i thought the expense would settle down, I've now got to clean the damn thing, lol. This might just be the thing to do it.
It's a good little piece of kit, a slight word of warning though, you can go through the foam quite quickly and it's not particularly cheap. More importantly though, welcome to biking! What have you got?
@TheHimalayanDiaries there are other foams available that you can use, though, right? Thank you, I'm loving it. I got a 2017 Honda CB 1000 RA3FE. She's a beaut...apart from atm as its covered in mud and bugs haha
I've only ever used the Mic Off foam, but I can't see why a cheaper car product wouldn't work. Very nice choice! Enjoy! 😊
Bravo for your efforts on the trails. Where on the .gov site do you apply for a byways license? I think I remember you saying but I've forgotten.
Thanks Simon! No need to apply for a byways licence, as long as you have a bike licence (or even just a CBT) and the bike is taxed and insured, you're good to go 😊
@@TheHimalayanDiaries Cheers for that. Looking up green lanes in Kent at the moment. They're a bit thin on the ground around Tonbridge by the look of it.
If you're interested in riding with others that know the lanes it might be worth looking into a TRF membership. I've always used an OS map and marked them out myself, but just another option for you 😊
@@simonchilli2088 There are quite a few around Crowborough
Mount the bike from high side, side stand won't be an issue
You can buy a puck for the stand
Cracking vlog again thank you i visit suffolk and notfolk often i too have a 411 and a crf but love using my 411 on the green lanes in herts beds and essex i am still on the stock tyres and they are a struggle in the mud i was going to swap mine out for the michelin trackers same.as my crf tremedous tyre but they wont fit the 411 i found out as the 411 has a 17inch rear wheel so i am going for the dunlop d606 rear 130/90 17 slightly oversized and 90/90 21 front i did have them on my crf epic tyres anyway thanks so much for your interesting vlogs
@@russelltownley7404 thanks for watching! A CRF and a 411- the best of both worlds! Luckily it hasn't rained much here since I filmed, but I need to get something for the bike before it does and the lanes become unmanageable. Thanks for the tip! I'll take a look!
Hi👋🏼 how are thoes heated grips working? Want to find out if they are long term durabable. Great flag btw!
Hi, 👋, I'm really enjoying them. Having multiple heat setting allows you to get the right temperature, depending on the season/glove you're wearing, which is a big plus. No issues with reliability so far 😊
Happy days. I had literally just Googled Green Lane Guide when your video landed... 👻. Do you use an app, map or local knowledge to find your routes. Im interested to find some local to me, but dubious whether I'll ever have the confidence to hit the beaten track 🫣
Great timing! Haha. I started out with an OS map and marked all the legal lanes, which I found oddly rewarding. It turned out that there were loads of green lanes locally that I'd driven past countless times and not even realised they were there. I'd advise starting there and you'll soon remember where they all are and find different ways of linking them all up 😊. If the OS map looks ok on camera I may do a video on it one day. It brings a completely different dimension to the bike, which I'm sure you'll love. If a lane looks too tricky to start with give it a miss and try to find something easier until you build your confidence and get a bit more experience. That's one of the great things about laning, you can make it as easy or as hard as you want it to be 😊
@TheHimalayanDiaries I really appreciate that. Makes perfect sense re 'if it's too difficult, turn back'. I follow Nathan the Postman, and am amazed by some of his exploits, but appreciate his experience! Off to the map shop it is 😉
Luv the lanes in your neck of the woods, the're much more to my liking. In the North East, there is a lot of climbing and some of it is quite steep with ruts, rock. s and bed rock etc. Don't worry about dropping the bike. They are tough things and are easy to straighten out when things get bent. Luved the video and banter too Ride safe. Cheers Neil
Thanks for taking the time to comment Neil! I've never been far from home laning on the bike so this is pretty much the terrain I'm used to! No doubt I'd be in for a bit of a shock if I venture North! Ride safe!
@ Thanks 🙏 You’d be fine. I prefer those sort of lanes where you are. We have lots of hills and high places, so naturally there is a lot ascent and decent and a lot of this in on roughish tracks. It’s just another skill set that needs to be learnt. Don’t get me wrong, there is some less arduous stuff too, more suitable for the Himmy.
Always admired the himmy. I prefer the classic looks of your model to the latest version. Looks good fun was had on a nice sunny ride out on the lanes. Nice to see you ride sensibly on the lanes and respect other users. Also good to hear a shout out for the TTR250. From the year I’m guessing yours is the white and purple? I have an ‘04 bluey that’s been sitting unused in my garage for a couple of years. My biking lately has been on tarmac with a tourer. After hearing you singing the praises of the TTR I’m inspired to recommission mine. Probably just an oil service and a carb service and it should be good to go. Old memories stirred too by reference to your partners CG125. I had one of those back in the day. W plate ‘81 so no leccy start back then with just 6v. But amazing commuter that could give 120mpg! Good video. Looking forward to seeing more 👍
@PeterKitching Thanks for stopping by Peter! I too prefer the 411Himalayan aesthetically, although the 450 is growing on me. You're right, it's the white and purple version of the TTR, although mine had a tank from a TTR 600, that was fitted by a previous owner. I shot the bike on the first video on the channel if you want to take a look (there's a quick walk around at 5 minutes if you just want to see what she looked like). th-cam.com/video/X_NhDa_dPEc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9bsXQT_H_SgMnkIs Sometimes when you sell a bike you know it's the right choice and some are harder to let go. When I sold the TTR I was sure I wouldn't have any regrets, but I'd love to own one again at some stage. I really do miss it, especially at this time of year. If you've got a little time and money I say go for it! They're cracking little bikes. Let me know if you get it back on the road, I'd love to hear about it! As for the little 125's, they're brilliant cheap motoring. You really can't go wrong!
@@TheHimalayanDiaries thanks for the link. I’ve just flitted over and watched it through. The bigger TTR600 fuel tank suits the look of the 250. I wasn’t aware that mod. Many long distance TTR250 owners have fitted the Honda XR600 tank. I might have a look into a tank swap if I decide to do some distance riding myself. You’re putting out some nice easy going videos. Looking forward to seeing more. 👍
Hey! Glad to see you're still pumping out videos! My himalayan almost didn't start today because the battery was almost dead. Are you getting a trickle charger for winter?
Thanks for coming back! I'm embarrassed to say that I've already got a trickle charger, but didn't expect quite as big a gap before riding, so didn't connect it 🤦♂️
@@TheHimalayanDiaries Haha! Happens to the best of us! Have you hooked it up before? I'm not looking forward to messing with wires etc!
Yeah, I had it one last winter, just plug and play so nice and simple ☺️
Sand's a pain up the arse
Thanks for showing us some of Norfolk's green lanes in the sunshine. It's a rare sight. I've got a mate who lives in Glemsford and he's always moaning about the weather so well done for getting out there and doing your stuff! I've come off on a green lanes and lately it's all I can do to pick her up on my own!! Getting too old, that's what it is!
They're definitely not the easiest bike to pick up. You're definitely not too old! You've got the right idea being where you are. It's only going to get more dreary here in the UK from now on
I dropped mine a few times now. Once with the tank lower than the wheels off the side of a concrete track. It was sillyvheavy 🥴. They're probably about 50kg heavier than I think they could be 😄
They're definitely not light! If they were 150kg they would be a dream on the trails 😊. It's a hard thing to do with an adventure bike though 😔
@TheHimalayanDiaries yes. Definitely. I shudder to think how anyone can cope with something like a GS. I can honestly say the best way to lift (if the ground allows) is to get into a squat with your back against the saddle, always try to keep a straight a back as possible. Good luck. These bikes are actually perfect for this kind of riding. 👍
Fascinating video. Im a South Cheshire man myself. I spend a lot of time exploring the back lanes and b roads in my area. I really to need to find where my local geen lanes are
I'd recommend buying an OS map of the local area, which will have all of the legal lanes on It. It takes a while to find trails that link up and there's a lot of stopping and starting to make sure you're on the right track, but it worth it in the end 😊. Happy riding!
Fantastic insight into green laning and the route between King's Lynn and Hunstanton. I really am ignorant to the highways and byways that we are permitted to use. Even the ones in my home county! Top marks for the warts and all footage. I probably learned more from your spill than I care to consider. Great tip re composure, and well done for getting up again 👏🏼
Thanks for your comment Iain and for supporting the channel, as always . It really does mean a lot. I make these videos to share my experiences with the bike and try to be as transparent as I can, be it good or bad. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Just fitting anlas capra x to my 450 mate has them on his 411... fabulous tyre
Thanks! I'd add them to the shortlist!
Fuggle as fugg
What a piece of junk underpowered bike. It's too expensive. There's absolutely no reason to buy this spec wise, price needs to go down 60-70% then we're talking.
I 100% agree with you on the price, but it's a great little bike. Even if you have no interest in buying one I'd recommend a test ride. It's great fun
Honestly - it's fugly. If it was £2.5k it'd be a viable commuter despite that, but £8k is real bike money
looks cool but 8k is wild
I agree!
One of the ugliest bikes I have ever seen.
