3d Printed Vacuum Casting Part 2 | CASTING STUFF

Moving right along in the vacuum casting series in part 2 I actually managed to cast some parts (rings) and I go through and give some information about the process, analyze the castings and make some improvements and try a second cast. 3d Print Vacuum Casting Part 1 | Building the vacuum casting machine for casting metal
มุมมอง 17K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this series I jump into the unknown to me world of 3d printed vacuum casting. In order to get started I had to do a bunch of research about how the process works (shown in the beginning) and then build the vacuum casting machine and de-gassing machine to be able to work with the plaster and later the metal. These machines retail for a lot of money and it seemed like a pretty simple thing to ...

    Hi, Im not sure if you still have this lathe, but im in the process of getting an old one running and im having a problem with the back gear. When i try and use the lever to engage it, i cant get the lever to pull out and then turn. Is there something strange about using the back gear, do i need certain gear levers in certain positions or something like that. If not, it just means mine is jammed

    • @DmitriIvanov
      @DmitriIvanov 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The lathe has to be off. Since they are straight cut gears which slide over each other, they catch sometimes. Turn the chuck by hand slowly and put some pressure on the handle, it will click in.

    Fantastic craftsmanship I wish I had your tools and skills, I'm just making my vacuum chamber for casting but I purchased a separate 12L vacuum chamber for degassing.. I actually ordered my 6" steel pipe 3.5" too long on purpose because I'm using 5" X 8" flasks and the extra 3.5" at the bottom is below the pump connection so if I get a blowout the molten metal falls to the bottom and can't get drawn into the vacuum hose!!

    If you're doing this repair, be wary of the brightness of the new leds, don't make the mistake that I did that was putting "ultra bright" leds in the cluster. My dash went from having little light, to Christmas tree after the repair, I had to buy leds that are not so bright as the first ones, and once they arrive will have to perform the repair again. Other than that, perfect instructions.

    Very nice video, that little yellow transformer on the pcb is actually driven by that little 8 pin chip. That is a small fly back power supply. It more than likely does run straight of the pain rail on board. It’s a switch mode power supply. Unfortunately they didn’t install any common mode and differential mode inductors in the ac line. That’s crazy that they’re not on there.

    How did you know that it was the LVs that was broken and not a fuse or something like that?

    • @DmitriIvanov
      @DmitriIvanov 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cluster itself was working, only the backlighting was partially not working. A broken fuse would take out the entire cluster. Also a fuse is only a symptom not the actual problem, a fuse only blows when a current higher than it's rated capacity flows through it, meaning something down the line had an issue (likely a short). Anyways, that's not relevant in this case.
