Such a great trick! I am probably not gonna apply it to my current 2.5m long shelves since I just have a tiny hand saw, but I am definitelly gonna use it in the future!
Great useful video, well explained and liked you gave alternative options with the tools. As for other how to videos, I’d love to see how to scribe a shelf to fit in an alcove with uneven walls please.
Great explanations, especially regarding washer size and which pencil to use. Thank you! Will follow you here and on IG. Also, I believe my house was constructed by drunk Americans in 1981.
This is helpful. Any tips for a pre-made shelf? I bought some Ikea shelving cubes and our wall is wonky AF ... I am debating mounting on plywood and carving the plywood as needed.
Praise be! Thanks for sharing this little trick. I'll definitely be making use of this new information in the coming days as I build a floating desk. :)
Hello Dmitri, Good video... I would be happy to see more like this... I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Take care Paul,,
@@olyzoly i didn't want to be able to see the mounting hardware at all. I like the look of floating shelves. Also they are solid oak, probably 25kg each with nothing on them.
this video is very useful. But what if I have a gap of 3/4 to my left but as you move your way down to the right it's fine. What could I use to being that the washer would be too small. Thank you.
That's a bit more difficult. I ended up measuring the front and back of the alcove and getting the angle to the long wall with an angle copy tool and transferring it onto the shelves. Turned out pretty good but not 1mm good. Alcoves are no fun...
Thanks for this Dmitri; I have one question - what steps would you need to take if you need the shelf to be a certain depth/come out to a certain point? I.e. you’ve installed some framing and you need your front edge to come out to meet a straight support beam 10 inches away from the wall. In your example, the final depth of the shelf just depends on how much you end up taking off.
Man, to be honest I've not run into something like that before. I thought about it a bit and I've got no good solution that pops into my head. Let me know if you manage it!
What a great tip! I would prefer not to buy another tool just to put floating shelves in my bathroom. However, I know at least one wall is not aligned with the other.
Probably to late now (Your home must've been burned to the ground already for starting a bandsaw on a sunday) but if not..... great job, good delivery and neat trick. 👍
Nice technique. But surely it only works on only little uneven walls. If you get a wall that is very uneven, and vertically too, you would have to do this from both sides at once. (up and down)
Well.. Ive thought about this and you only need to mark it from the top, and then cut the wood at an angle, such that only top touches the wall. Buuuut this wont be pretty from the bottom
Hey guys thanks for stopping by, if you like these short format how to videos let me know!
Just saved my floating shelf project. Uneven walls wasn't even something I thought would have been an issue until it was. Thank you!
Thank you for the great visual and explanation. Will be really useful with my current project!
Thanks for this! Just made some 8ft floating shelves and I've got about a 6mm gap at one spot due to my uneven1920s plaster wall.
Such a great trick! I am probably not gonna apply it to my current 2.5m long shelves since I just have a tiny hand saw, but I am definitelly gonna use it in the future!
Hey thanks for the video!!
🤔 I was a little stumped how to get my cut with this “Drunk worker made wall”🤣 I appreciate the tips!

I just did this project, and the way I figured out was to scribe onto a piece of cardboard and use it as a template.
With painted shelves, would I add painters tape along the line to help minimize damage before cutting?

Cool :) glad i can help!
Just used your tip for butcher block countertop... Wavy drywall and it perfectly
Brilliant!!! 🤯 Thank you so very much for posting this video!!
Hello Dmitri,

Paul,,
Hey there, how have you mount those beautiful shelves? I mean, what type of brackets have you used?
Hey Olga, have a look on my Instagram there is a post. Here is a link but I'm not sure links work in comments: instagram.com/p/CIjNRRmD75P/?
@@DmitriIvanov thanks! That’s interesting. May I asked why have you decided against brackets?
@@olyzoly i didn't want to be able to see the mounting hardware at all. I like the look of floating shelves. Also they are solid oak, probably 25kg each with nothing on them.
What about fitting a shelve between two wall corners?
What about the sides? I had to force my shelf in, and there were gaps on some spots and very snug on others.
Class, thanks pal. Great tips
Thank you! Great tip on scribing.

Either get a bigger washer or rough cut the board in by eye and then run the washer along it.
A fender washer
Dmitri great technique and pretty funny too. What method do you use for templating the sides of the shelf if it’s going into an alcove? Thanks!
That's a bit more difficult. I ended up measuring the front and back of the alcove and getting the angle to the long wall with an angle copy tool and transferring it onto the shelves. Turned out pretty good but not 1mm good. Alcoves are no fun...
Thnx for this idea. Im planing to do it. Greetings from Croatia ;)
That's ingenious!
Fantastic tip. Thanks so much 👍👍
How about when you can't cut the shelf? I have a 4ft laminate shelf from home Depot and my new rental house apparently has janky walls :(

Add some then..build it out- shims! Shimmy in where you need to fill to push out to meet.
Legend!!
Omg. Why use a protractor? That washer solution is genius! Simplcity itself! Thanks!!

Good video thanks
Great hack thanks
Nice job!
The idea of getting stoned on a Sunday in Germany might not be such a bad thing...😂
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Genius!

best part was the part about getting stoned in germany on a sunday hahaha

Your shelf is only maybe 3cm thick, if you wall has a difference of more than 0.5-1mm over 3cm perhaps the wall needs some help X)
you know 1 mm is not bad at all where can i hire Miroslav to do my walls ?
That band saw is a banned saw on Sunday.
( ͡ ͡° ͜ ʖ ͡ ͡°)

That wallpaper doesn't help you with this video due to the converging diagonal lines. Throws the eye off a lot.
It makes the shelves look bowed, i know :)
hides wonky shelves. :)
needs more memes, but it's ok i guess
. Thanks. Hope you didn’t get stoned too bad. Prosit
I'm not that good, I'll just caulk it in, lol
Have you been stoned?
Unfortunately not, that would have been some good content for the next video. :l
@@DmitriIvanov I like this format but the way. I understand better how to do it.... If one day I will be confronted to crooked walls
