The Smith & Wesson 686 Plus 3-5-7 5" Talo Edition (Part 2) - Follow Up

After we got it back, we give it a good once over and take it to the range to see if the gun now properly functions and was actually worth the near $900.00 price tag.

The rolled up bill in the 6th chamber is a myth from what I've seen reported. If you shoot the revolver with that bill in there, it gets burnt and it can move and bind up the gun.

I noticed at 8:43 talking about Colt clones you forgot about the Great Western. Used in a lot of old Western TV shows they are very good quality firearms. And well worth the money if you can find one. I own a GW 22lr it is basically built on a 45 frame using a 45 cylinder bored to shot 22 . For being close to 70 years old it still shoots as good if not better then my NEW Ruger Wrangler.

I had a taurus gacho, it was a factory slicked up fast draw gun. It was great, but if you fired it strait up in the air, it would lock up. I guess because of the work done to it....I have several single actions .44mag, .45 colt, .357 mag, ruger, s+w always interested in those.

Looking for a wife gun. A gun that SHE can handle at close range QUICKLY. This could be it, but you need to do a little work on it. First, find a lower trigger and hammer spring set on line. Simple job to replace them. Then break the bank and install a laser on it. Then load it with something like the Liberty 38 special ammo. Lower recoil and deadly. Then train her at the range. My 75 year old sweetheart loves this gun. She picks it up and shoots. It has no safety but a bar block in case you drop it.

I picked up one of these and so far, I like it. Only put 75 rds through it, but no issues at all. Waiting on some 230 gr fmj bullets to reload for it. I'll keep it traditional and only feed it 230 gr ball ammo. We'll done on this guys.

"New Model Army Metallic Cartridge Revolving Pistol" has to be an anagram or something. NMAMCRP is probably code for "Samuel Colt is an ass boss," or something like that. I can't believe they just like long names.

I bought one a year ago on GunBroker in tan color. It does everything it should well with no feed or jamming problems. Good magazines and easy to load. Great prices. I also have a rare CZ 512 22 mag tactical that is even better. Has a High Standard Sentinal Mk4 revolver in 22 mag, and AMT 22 Automag. Too bad Ruger couldn’t get the 10-22 to work well in 22WMR. Get one 👍🏻

I dont know why so many people have an issue with the width of the rear notch. First, range time practice and learning to use them might surprise a few people with how accurate they can actually be. Second, if you want a pistol with target sights, buy a target pistol.

I like to apply a thin layer of white lithium grease (I use Liqui Moly LM47) on the sliding parts. Mostly because it binds and forms a thin film that wont go away. Each to his own I guess. I have not tried but I think an ultrasonic cleaner would be pretty fantastic at removing most hidden grime. Big fan of Ruger. Never buy any other brand :) And I think the safety switch on this gun is very clever. You are much more likely to push it down by mistake than up. Which actually makes it safer.

Actually wrote a review for this shotgun for the Single Shot Exchange. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad gun, but I did have a critical part failure after 200 rounds. Most of the rounds I shot were high brass 00 Buckshot. I did fire off 5 Winchester black Defender Slugs. Have to agree that it is not a shotgun for new shooters just from the recoil alone. Has all the recoil of a Stoeger double but the capacity of a pump action.

I have one of them. I don't like semi automatics. I've had them for years. I'm tired of them jamming take it in the gun Smiths because they break something happens. They're harder to clean. Sometimes it's a pain in the butt. To put back the slide, it won't go on revolvers. Much more reliable. Sure, you have less bullets, but they will fire. I have the three inch barrel which is perfect

I think a would prefer a bersa TPR9c over this one. Its smaller in every way, cheaper and probably a better trigger from factory. The negative things on the Bersa are its doesn´t come optic ready, a little less capacity (beccouse its smaller) and the sigths are cheap but still funcional.

Nice follow-up on this gun. (And it's reliability, repairs etc.) I want to like this gun but for some reason... ??? I don't like when a company sends back a form with "check-marks" and nothing more. There needs to be a bit more "human touch" with a repair IMHO. I also continue my search for a DA/SA pistol with a de-cocker feature. I'm finding I really like the safety aspects more and more and am a bit tired of the plethora of plastic striker options out there. Thanks for telling it like it is! 👍

Clint Eastwood chose the 1858 Remington. I've also read the Wyatt Earp carried a Remington but most sources agree with you that he carried the Colt single-action army. According to some sources, on the day of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, October 26, 1881, he carried a Smith & Wesson Model 3 with an 8-inch (200 mm) barrel.

At over $600.00 a gun, it's not worth the price. This gun should sale for no more than $200.00 each. Not a favorable buy in my opinion... The gun is no longer practicable, it had its time, but most people can find a automatic cheaper, and gives far better protection... This gun is basically useless for defense...

Ruger has a lot of nerve calling this a target model with such a poor trigger at 5# or more. Once you install the Volquartsen trigger kit you have something. Add a red dot and a proper grip now you have a real target pistol that can go head to head with a high standard without the latters fussiness.

At 17:00 when you pulled the trigger in SA the hammer hits and moves the slide into battery making it able to shoot and you did in DA. I noticed on my TPR9 the extractor was sticky and needed to be worked in(worn down bit). this is what I believe is happening, the round and the extractor are not meeting up right causing the gun to not go fully into battery.
