Grilling on My New BushBox LF Twig Stove
มุมมอง 7K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I recently purchased a Bush Box Lf twig stove from Bushcraft Essentials along with a small stainless steel grill. This is my first time using either piece of cooking gear and I was pleasantly surprised with the success of the experiment. A really compact little stove , easy to use and provided a great way to cook on a fire. Something I believe I will use quite a lot. #bushboxlf #cookingoverfire...

I am so grateful for all the wonderful viewer suggestions I receive. I had the opportunity to revisit a wonderful campsite and to implement several of your suggestions. On top of that I had an absolutely beautiful 8 km fall hike around this island with my friend Lynne, a warm campfire and a warm overnight. #womencamping #newcastleisland
How to Brighten Up a Gray Day- take a hike!

Woke up to a gray and drizzly day. To brighten my mood I knew I needed to get outside. Milo was happy to come along on a a fall day hike to breath some fresh air and get some exercise, medicine for the mind, body and soul. With up a hike up a local hill, a walk beside a lovely lake and great company we both returned home happy and content. #hiking #womenhike #doglife
Wind Storm Camp with Milo-Bob too!

We set out with our rescue dog Milo for 2 nights in the van. His first such camp out we believe. We arrived to a significant wind and rain storm which made being outside very uncomfortable and somewhat unsafe. Come along and see how we managed and how or if Milo adapted. It wasn't without its challenges. #vancamping #campingwithdogs #stormcamping
Quiet and Alone- a Mountain Overnight

Join me on a wonderful hike out to a mountain lake through the beauty of the subalpine meadows and forests. The fall colours are just beginning to change and the forest floor is littered with a wide variety of mushrooms. Cranes are on the move singing there songs and the whiskey jacks are ever eager to scavenge your trail bars! It is a wonderful experience to hike and sit in the quiet of nature...

After a drive from the east side of Vancouver Island to the west side in the van I arrived at Pachena Beach Campground for a great camp right on the beach . What a wonderful, scenic get-away! That wee cooking set up was ingenious. We have something called an Omnia oven that works much the same way. I have a lid suggestion for your briquets/coals. When I do my sourdough, I bake it in the oven in a bread pan with another bread pan inverted on top. I leave it covered for 30 minutes and then take the lid off for the last fifteen. My loaves are always beautifully browned with this method. Milo seems very happy and settled. He's a lucky guy to have such devoted parents. Happy camping! I hope you get out again, We started our day shovelling a foot of snow so no camping for us just now.

@@wendyoutdoors2230 I actually just watched one of his old videos making bread in a Billy can on a wood fire. He was able to balance large coals on it, but that wouldn't work with your twig stove. But, I'd bet you'll find plenty of inspiration on his channel and I'd bet he'd answer an DM from you, as well.

hope you enjoy your trip- All the provincial parks are great but some may not be open in March. Be sure to check on line. The same with some of the rec sites. The north end of the island, past Campbell River is quite quiet and worth a trip on its own if you like low tourist areas, especially that time of year. If you let me know what kind of camping you prefer I could be more specific- ie hook ups, services etc.

I have successfully baked over coals by putting a smaller nesting pot inside a larger pot (both upright) and just putting a few pebbles inside the large pot to create an air space. The inner pot is uncovered. Adding coals on top of the larger pot would work really well.

14:17 🤔Are we sure Milo didn't sense bigfoot? lol The apple crisp came out fantastic. I wonder if a crisper top can be reached with the use of foil. Maybe towards the end of baking, covering the pan with foil and adding a few coal pieces on top may work. It won't be super sturdy and long lasting but for a quick crisp.

Wendy, do you watch Luke from the Outdoor Boys. He makes bread in his latest video while survival camping. He mixes flour yeast and sugar in a plastic bag. He adds water to the bag and lets the mix rise from the heat by his fire. Then flat frys it in a pan or in this latest video he puts the dough straight on the hot coals. He lathers it with honey. Looks delicious. Milo will come good. Just time.

Wonderful. Thank you for the vid. Like you've said, Dutch Oven on coals with coals on the top is a good way to bake bread. Many people do it. I always hike to my locations, so I never tried it myself. You can also use stove from your hot tent in a similar fashion. It worked for me. I also baked simple flat breads directly on coals and it tastes really good. Finally bread on a stick over camfire is popular bushcraft technique. Be well.

Here is my recipe for Campfire Apple 🍎 Crisp Foil Packets INGREDIENTS * 6 Granny Smith apples thinly sliced (you can peel or not, either way works) * 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed * 3 teaspoons cornstarch * 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon Crumb Topping * 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar * 2 cups flour * 1-1/2 cup quick oats * 1/4 tsp cinnamon * 1/8 tsp nutmeg * 1 cup butter melted * Aluminum Foil * Optional: salted caramel sauce ice cream or cool whip INSTRUCTIONS * Crumb topping: Combine the sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add butter and mix until crumbly. Set aside.
 * Apple layer: In a large bowl combine brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Add apples and stir until all coated with mixture.
 * Cut out (12) 18 inch sheets of heavy duty aluminium foil. You will use two pieces of foil for each packet.
 * Divide apple mixture equally onto each foil packet. Add 1 cup of crumb topping over each packet of apples. Seal and close up packets. * Campfire: Your campfire should have been going for a while so that you have a nice 1-2 inch layer of hot & ready white coals. Place your foil packets on a grill 2 inches above the coals and cook for 12-15 minutes or until apples are cooked through and crumb topping is golden brown. * Carefully open foil packets, top with ice cream or cool whip if desired and serve. Obviously adjust amount for 1 person.

I believe it is made by CGI . I may not be quite right about that. We bought it in Oregon while on a trip and find it to be quite compact for the van. It is not really adjustable as the lower level has too narrow a base. The higher level is fine.

Of course.... the comments from us know it alls 😂 . Dogs just aren't built to be alone . Mother Nature made them as pack / family animals.

Loved seeing some of the inside of your van! I'm in the middle of building out a Promaster Van Conversion and love seeing how other's vans are! So glad too that Milo is coming along fine!
