- Please come along on with me as I enjoy a late summer overnight in a local campground. Enjoy a calming paddle along the lake shore, a simple but tasty dinner and a gorgeous and quiet evening by the campfire. Stepping back from the day to day gives me the space I need to reassess what I value and return home refreshed. #solocamping #womencamping #simpleliving
Wendy, I’m a 75 yr. old girl, with multiple health issues BUT, I have bought my 5th tent to allow me to carry on! I can no longer backpack or crawl in and out of my beloved 4-season backpacking tent. My new tent is huge, easy to set up, even with my bad back, and can accommodate 2 or 3 cots, just in case I find a friend who likes to camp. I use a carbon fiber hi-tech walker that’s designed for trails and has a built in seat. I taught skiing in Colorado for 20 years and believe me, it’s been a hard realization that I can no longer hike into and camp in the most beautiful wildernesses in the world. As long as I can drive, I will continue to camp out and enjoy small slices of great mountains and serenity. Aging is a mindset and learning to adapt, while continuing to do the things that you love. 💕
It's wonderful that you've found a way to continue your outdoor activities. I'm curious to know which tent you got. I am torn between using a small tent (not great to get in and out of) or to get something larger and probably more cumbersome, especially for packing into my small car.
I am 73, and at 70 decided to buy my camping gear. I enjoyed camping with my kids when they were young and for many years after they grew up I did not do it. I have a large instant up 10 person tent that I can stand up in. I can set up my camp alone as long as it isn’t too windy. I’m encouraged by others who don’t let age be a deterrent. We have to keep enjoying being out in nature as often as possible.
What an amazing reset location! I surely would have had a go at a midnight skinny dip with that beach. A nice chilly plunge makes a great reset. I hope Milo gives you a wiggle butt when you get home!😊
You and Wendy are an inspiration for my 64 year old self. I’m just not liking how my body is changing. I’m 50 lbs overweight (have been for over 30 years) so I’ve quit trying to improve it…but you two ladies have inspired me to keep pushing. Thank you

I was packing my camping gear onto my scooter ready for another trip into the Welsh mountains when my Grand Daughter and her work friend visited. Too polite to say anything, but it was obvious the friend was surprised that I still go camping at 80. My Grand Daughter's explanation nicely summed up what you said in your video, Wendy, because she said to her friend, " It's his Nature medicine for his soul" 😊

As always you inspire me. I did my first solo camping trip and hiking trip a couple of weeks ago. I used to always wait until someone could go with me. I decided after watching your videos I can do it also. I have been hiking for about 12 years now, but I always hiked with a group. I do live in Georgia and now have to drive about 4 to 5 hours north, in our state...in order to reach good trails. I did a lot of talking to myself and saying "yo bear" but I would have never tried this if it had not been for you and your videos! Looking forward to your next video!
Congratulations- yes- self talk really does help chase away the imagined fears . I use it all the time. Yo Bear is helpful too plus if nothing else, it gives you a vent!! Making videos also gives permission to talk out loud to yourself!! 🤣🤪 lol. It is such an accomplishment going for your first one. I bet you felt quite empowered when it was over. Hope you can go again. 👏

You said it! I have had a VERY stressful few years (awful ex-husband, working long hours to finish raising kids to pay bills that are too numerous, etc) and every time I would go out into the woods to camp all of those worries would just float off my shoulders. It was magical. I knew they were still there waiting for me when I got home, but I felt like I could literally take a break from them and be at peace. (Also, you are my idol! Thank you for being such a remarkable inspiration.)

I've been looking for your next video. Glad to see this one. All summer I kept saying just go for one night and I haven't. You've given me a push for some fall camping. Nature does heal the soul and the body.

What a lovely video! I find I appreciate the outdoors the very most when I am by myself. Loved watching you handle that canoe by yourself. My husband and I have been debating if we were too old to handle one -- I'm thinking probably not, now.
Just get a lighter one- and try lifting and moving it yourselves before you buy it- I find stated weights are sometimes deceiving . Hope you find something.

Great video Wendy. I'm 72 years old and have enough trouble getting a 30 lb kayak on my roof rack. If i use my canoe my son does the lifting. You handling your canoe so well is amazing. Thank you for a remarkable video. Keep up the good work. From British Columbia>
thanks John- So far so good but I may need a lighter canoe yet! We all have maladies. darn it all! I never know what might crop up on the next trip= keep adapting if you can. I keep doing that- It is a tough battle but I hope I can find a way to keep modifying . Maybe not too many more canoe trips. Just never know, Just going with the day. Good luck to you! I seen a video post from you yesterday. You are such inspiration. Here I'm 52 and thinking she is amazing that i could and should be still be loving life.
I'm thinking life as i know it was over I'm stage 5 kidney failure and will be spending rest of my life on dialysis i was giving up. Watching your video post yesterday got me thinking it don't have to be. I could still have healthy happy life camping doing things i used to love. I think utube needs to share your videos on everyone feed it could really inspire people bring them outta the funk they are in. Much love life and happiness sweet lady.

After being in a terrential downpour on my last camping trip where the inside of my tent got soaked, lol, I'm looking for one like yours. I need a much simpler set up. Love your videos. They always make me want to get back out there in nature.

I started putting together a pretty good car camping setup a couple of years ago, but different health issues have derailed my timeline a bit. Thanks to finding your channel several months ago, I haven't let my wonky health actually shut down my plans, and will be using the winter to build my body back. At 68 I'm going to start exploring the most beautiful places in the most beautiful part of the world - the Pacific Northwest. I know that the world has some bad, but the sharing of knowledge and support, encouragement and power, has made the lives of women like me immeasurably better than that of my mother's, thanks to TH-cam and TikTok. And mostly, thanks to you and women like you. I'm grateful and excited.

That was indeed a delightful little getaway, Wendy. Thanks for taking us along. It's amazing how little nature one needs to feel restored. Intergenerational life often stops us from being out camping as much as we would like but little trips are also restorative. Yesterday we took our camper to Ipperwash Beach on Lake Huron to enjoy our lunch. That was all we did. Eat our lunch and listen to the water - it was so good. Nature is so magical that often, just a trip to the backyard or around the block will inspire. This morning the sun was shining on some grass and it looked like hundreds of chubby caterpillars swaying in the breeze. Life is good.
How inspiring Ann. My parents had a motor home they kept for many years after travel was behind them. They took drives to local beaches, made a sandwich and a coffee and just watched the landscape. My mom, who developed dementia ,loved it all until she could no longer cope. I think the act of getting out and seeing nature helped her for the longest time. It is all about quality of life. Simple things are absolutely the best. I have certainly down sized my adventures and more downsizing to come . thank you so much for sharing . I know the intergenerational pressures are a reality for many . I was there myself some years ago and now I am the "elder" . As you might guess, I wonder ? Who knows- live life fully for today!

Such a beautiful campsite and so peaceful. You do well with the dryer lint, a friend of mine also swears by it. For me, I have a lot of wax left over from candle-making days. I get wood chips and put them in cupcake liners and pour some wax on them and they work super well. I'm thinking you have a good idea to just go out for a night somewhere nearby to reset. Thanks for sharing your camp with us.

Well- my canoe may be lighter than yours at 32 lbs and my car is smaller and shorter than a truck. I am also determined but that may wane with time but not quite today! 🥹🤞

Resetting ourselves is so important. I'm like you. I love getting out in nature and away from people, chaos, pressure and obligations. To do that, we our have favorite place in the West Kootenay's where we escape in our old '74 VW Van and call it home for a week. The freedom and simplicity in unspoiled nature is so rejuvenating and relaxing. Thank you for your reconfirming video 💕
HI Brenda- that area is so beautiful and full of amazing outdoors spaces. I have only visited a few . I love that you too have an older van- Thought ours was old at 2004 but you folks win for sure. I coveted a vw van in the years gone by. They were the symbol of freedom on the road- You must be very clever at maintaining this dear old girl . Lots of Tlc needed.

(That hasn't always been the case .. haha) But we've had some tremendous campouts this summer and have met some incredible people because of the old girl. I'm 67 and I love biking in the countryside on my ebike, 3X a week, to a retirement home where I serve breakfast to folks in their 80s and 90s, and a lovely, alert 100 year old. As another solo female camper I resonate so much with this... I'm in my mid-forties, and a few years ago I went through a stressful enough time that I went off on stress leave. I took my trailer and went camping in a park in the Lower Mainland. Nature really does help reset oneself. Keep well and carry on 🙂

Yes, I was please they worked well together. I hope i can get in another Hammock camp with the quilt soon but the weather is changing early this year- the damp in upon us. Will see.
Wendy, I so much admire that you do this. Solo camping isn't something women often do. But I like the way you handle it, with extra care, a keen sense of safety for yourself, and also a good sense of what you can handle and what you can't. I find myself as you age, that you just have to adjust what you are doing. Maybe you'll stop taking out the canoe because you can handle it anymore, or maybe you get a trolled for it so you don't have to carry it anymore. Or maybe you get a tent that is easier to set up, and lighter, maybe one of those little popups, although that one looks easy enough!! Whatever it is! You'll be out there for a good long time yet, because I can see that is who you are! I very much enjoy coming along with you and seeing what you are up to. Thanks for taking us along. I'm 73, so enjoying camping vicariously through you and others that I watch. BTW, love your nest tent setup. Looks nice and secure and comfortable. Wendy! You need a cute sunhat!!

This is exactly how I reset, myself! What a fabulous spot you got on the water! I just purchased 4 wooded acres out in the boonies near a river, so I can go for my re-set last minute if I want to. I check in and out when I want to!!! lol Thanks for taking us along!

Such wonderful timing to watch your latest video. I’m taking a brief break from gathering my camping gear for a five day trip to Orcas Island in the San Juans. My campsite, on Mountain Lake, will look very similar to where you were for this trip. I’m a retired 70yr old guy who loves camping with my dog, Billy. This trip will be rest, short hikes, meditation, swimming, enjoying the night stars, and driving into town at some point in the week to enjoy a beer at the island brewery! Getting older is a constant unfolding of physical and emotional change. And it continues to support my love and passion for unwinding in nature. Wishing you continued good health and joy in nature.

Hi Nancy- happy to have you. I am considering a cot for the winter camp. I find it good exercise getting up and down plus to and from the ground.- but---- some days I wonder - lol
I get my “reset night” this coming Monday and can’t wait 🙌🏼! We have such similar thoughts about the whole reasoning and benefits. The quiet is always the best part along with doing what you want WHEN you want. 💜

We are camping in southwestern NY in a luxury yurt! Furniture and a king sized bed, antigravity chairs, no set up other than fire and food. Something different we’ve never tried. Love your video!

I’m 72 and agree with you. I did lots of tent camping raising my girls and now I camp in my Chinook. I try to get out for several days once or more a month. It reboots my peace of mind. Living in Northern California I can find beautiful place like you. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re a breath of fresh air.

I've grabbed/moved canoes before--I applaud you for hoisting that around like it was made of balsa!! You GO girl!! (and I agree on the paddling--I have a kayak that I love to cruise around the lake early in the morning before everyone is awake.) thanks for taking us along on your campout.
