i am always looking to get out and camp , but not going because I can't get anyone to come with me . Watching you I realize i don't need to have anyone with me :)
I highly recommend just doing it! I have now since 1990 and I feel very selfish with all the quiet times I have had and being able to go where I want, when I want. Give it a try. I can find no other women interested in camping with me in the wild. In Michigan there are national forests and 2 track roads where one can camp on for free. I camped loads this summer at 11 nights two times. I can't get enough of camping because I am getting older (76) and realize my camping days will come to an end..... So i get out there and enjoy!
Another awesome video. I was out in the forest this weekend for an overnight and here in the Eastern US, we have leaves changing and like you, many mushrooms - Some were huge. My hike had 3 creek crossing to get to the river so I got to get my feet wet 6 times out and back and put my feet in the sand along a beautiful river. It was quiet chilly but felt absolutely wonderful. Just one night in the wilderness brings such peace. I’m so glad you share your adventures and keep so many of us entertained and encouraged.
I use a foldable foam pad under my air mattress. That does two things: it helps with the warmth and insulation and secondly it protects my air mattress. Love your outings. Thanks for bringing us along.
Yep.... I've cut down an old thermarest zlite sol closed cell foam sleeping pad to head to knee length and throw it under my neoair xlite.... it does help.
Another lovely scenic video. Thoughts to make life warmer..Exchange your plastic ( Nalgene?) water bottle for a single skin stainless steel water bottle. In the evening fill the bottle with hot water, place it inside a woolen sock and put it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. It makes the bag cosy, keeps you warm and in the morning you can make a brew with the water. 😊
Morning! I grew up in the Deep South .. my grandmother used to say she was piddling: to spend one’s time idly or inefficiently but simply enjoying the moment
Wild birds feeding out of your hand! That would be the highlight for me! I, too, am amazed at the various shapes and colors of mushrooms. Im always photographing them. Its amazing how much fun you can pack into a one over night.
Thanks again Wendy, for highlighting the pure joy of being outdoors. Love your observations, especially the cranes. They pass through my home area as well on their travels from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico Mostly 😊).
Strathcona Park is beautiful. I forgot about the boardwalks, tent platforms and caches. The unseen often forgotten Federal tax dollars that support the National Parks across Canada. Thanks for sharing Wendy. Another great trip.
Lovely video. I appreciate your comments about the quiet. That's one of the many reasons I love to escape to the mountains, to get away from the noise. Even then, there is always the occasional airplane flying overhead.
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos, I look forward to your deep wisdom-filled reflections and adventures. On this trip, every shot looked like a beautiful painting, I bet the air was so fresh. And I agree that the raised platform made it cold for you, I'm glad you had a workaround.
Thank you Wendy. It was an absolute joy watching you enjoy the freedom to just 'dawdle'. What a beautiful landscape. There is nothing like being a part of the outdoors. Love this.
For being cold at night, I found that using the emergency foil blanket works great when put between two layers under you over top of your mat. It reflects your heat back to you. Try it! Thank you for taking us along.
Thank you, Wendy for the inspiring videos! I love nature, but I don’t think I could camp alone. Because of your courage I was able to go on a solo trip to the beach for four nights. Maybe add more water to get the full bag of chicken to rehydrate? That is a beautiful trail and campsite! I can’t imagine the work to lay down the wooden walkways. ❤
Hi Susan- will do- It seems to be constant work in progress! Yes. it is a huge project but enables folks with physical limits a chance to visit this gorgeous place.

I felt so happy and peaceful watching this. I agree the “just being” is the important part. Nature is all around you, whether you are 5 meters down a trail or 5 km. That scenery was simply breathtaking!
That was so beautiful. I love that you show how well your parks are taken care of in Canada. We're leaving in the morning for a 3 day 2 night fishing trip. We love trout. Thanks for taking us along.
You are so inspiring me to do this at any age. When I was younger I always wanted to camp but could find no one else that wanted to but now I’m gonna go by myself!💜

❤❤ hello Bobbi here watching from Illinois what a breathtaking video I love nature and my favorite time of year is autumn to see the beautiful colors thank you for sharing your adventures is just so breathtaking I love nature I connect with nature beautiful beautiful
Trail dawdling is my favorite way to hike. Seeing, hearing and experiencing what's out there is for me, the whole point of hiking. Thanks for sharing your beautiful area. I spent a night at my favorite lake site Monday. When I got home Tuesday evening I almost slept on my deck because I didn't want to be closed in by walls. Lol.
Wonderful hike. I could almost feel the cold air in the morning. Beautiful lake and view from your campsite. I also enjoy camping. I've never done backpack camping. I always camp at state parks where you can drive right up to your campsite. I do get out on the trails, do some bird watching, have a campfire and just relax. Thanks for sharing this time outdoors.
Wendy, as always, you have helped me end my week on a high note. My trail name is "Turtle Toes", which is actually because, for some reason, turtles like my shoes and socks! But it suits me because I love to dawdle on trails and would certainly be a contender for a SKT (slowest known time) hiker award. There is so much that is lovely out on the trails. I love your laid-back trail travels and adventures. ❤
Oh, I just love those alpine meadows - so peaceful, so open. Your photography and comments are so right on just as they always are. And you’re always such an inspiration! Thank you, Wendy 🌻
Another lovely video reminding us of the importance of taking time in nature: watching, listening, smelling, observing. Such a beautiful area. Well done on capturing the sandhill cranes overhead! We live in their breeding grounds and I mark all the seasons by the cranes' movements. Lovely.
Absolutely spectacular area‼️ The silence was awesome. Sorry about the chilly night, those can make it hard to sleep. But what a beautiful morning to wake up to‼️ Thanks for taking us along 😊👍❣️
Well, Wendy, you found another bit of paradise. What a lovely spot. My advice about the rehydrating of meals is to leave it a bit longer than you think is necessary. That seems to work pretty well for me. Fall hiking or wandering in a wool sweater and no noisy coat whilst looking for mushrooms of all colours is one of my very favourite things to do. I certainly get why you like it.
Hello Ann- A perfect way to spend an afternoon for sure. I felt quite relaxed after getting home- such an easy hike and great spot for the night and all those beautiful mushrooms.
A few times 😊don't like when the ads cut in. I pushed the wrong key🙃you can have all the bragging rights you want, not about distance the quality of life you share with us is without words and a simple thank you seems insufficient for the smiles you bring and the peace we get from these trips❤❤❤❤
Wendy what a stunningly gorgeous place you have taken us, thank you so much. Plus your editing, music and photography truly make for this armchair traveler a very happy camper. As the heat increases here in Perth Australia this is the perfect time for camping and my favorite activity 'walking' ... have a great day, hope Milo is settling well. Thank you so much.
What a wonderful hike through the subalpine meadows and forests with the Sandhill cranes and a variety of mushrooms below. That was fun how that Whiskey Jack fed out of your hand. Apparently word got out to the other Gray Jays that you had food. Beautiful lake near your camping platform. How lovely it's so quiet too! Silence is so rare and precious these days and I'm glad you had a chance to enjoy it! Thanks for another wonderful adventure outdoors, Wendy! Jenny USA
Your smile is infectious. Thank you for sharing your adventures. I'm from the Lower Mainland BC myself and moved to Alberta Edmonton and I miss hiking and camping out there so much.... Your video's feel like home. ❤❤❤
In your rehydrating, since it’s sealed in a ziplock, maybe flip the bag upside-down every 4-5 minutes? As the water pools at the bottom it should redistribute the full soaking and water pressure to the food that had been on top which would have been fighting gravity to soak up the water.
Thank you again for sharing such gorgeous views on your hikes with nature unfolding itself with all its splendour. See you in your next adventure. Take care!❤
I just found you… What a wonderful video! I can’t wait to look at some of the others from earlier trips. I love being outdoors and camping, but I camp in a teardrop. It just works for me, Easy… Virtually no set up… And a warm dry, comfortable bed. Great video
Welcome aboard! so happy to have you along- We have an older camper van so I am not stuck on one way of camping. I also car camp and use an off grid cabin- I feel it doesn't matter how we get out or for how long, it is the act of spending time in nature in whatever our capacity is that matters. I hope you enjoy something in this channel. thanks for checking it out.
I think some of those cranes are making their way to my neighborhood in Washington state! Enjoyed this video - the small things you capture, and the large; the music, and the quiet, plus critiquing your experiences - I find it so encouraging as I learn to get myself out into wild areas. Thank you!
I always bring an accordeon style thin Thermarest mat to put under my Nemo mat. It helps a lot. You’re really lucky to have such beautiful camping areas to go to. Near Montréal you can’t get anything nearly as beautiful… that’s not private land…😊 Thank you sooo much for sharing the dream!😀❣️
Thank you Wendy. A truly relaxed time of refreshment with the slowness of both the going & returning to enjoy every drop of the beautiful scenery. You must have got pretty high in elevation this time to reach frost level. Would an extra & thicker tarp under the tent have helped with keeping the chill out at night when temperatures drop? Have you ever used a simple clip on step counter that tells you distance walked as well as the steps to do so? They can be pretty accurate. Regarding the rehydrating of the food: anyone else I have seen that do this, add the water & dehydrated food into a pot or skillet & reheat the food that way, stirring to not burn. Another wonderful adventure. 🥰👌
thanks for your suggestions- I will give them some thought- I have rehydrated using the pot method and it does work well- I guess I am being lazy using the bag method as there is little to no clean up. The elevation at the trail head was 2093 meters and with a 70 meter gain to the lake according to one source.
WOW the views were picture postcard perfect what spectacular views & trail !, Have to love the Whisky Jacks they really are sweet , wish i had them around my home . hey Wendy dawdaling is a good thing in this case lol. I find it strange to hear no noise when camping. ( I live in a city ).😒 You could see your breath in the morning that is cold. happy your night went well. Thanks for another amazing camp trip.
Thank you so much for sharing your adventures!! Lovely to watch! I am out in Ontario now but grew up on the island and miss it terribly. Its so nice to see the areas you visit and reminisce!
It is a beautiful part of Canada for sure but I think Ontario has some pretty amazing wild country. I watch a few folks from that area- so many lakes just no ocean . thanks for coming along. Happy it gives you happy memories.
Oh how I love your videos. As a 61 year old lady you give so much inspiration. You should us just because you a certain age doesn't mean we can't still live life and have adventures
Your videos are inspiring. I’m 42 and I’ve only camped a handful of times. I’m a side sleeper and a light sleeper and it’s hard for me to sleep well outside, but seeing the beautiful scenery makes me want to get out and try again. One day I hope to upgrade my gear and be able to fly to camp in a national park, like Glacier. So far the only national park I have camped in is Acadia, which was about an 8 hour drive for me.
Fantastic hike with breathtaking views. Love your interactions with nature, and love watching you enjoy your camps, and I learn from your videos. Been using my dehydration machine and am practicing with some veggies for now. Thank you for sharing your beautiful hiking and camping trip. Someday i might try cooler weather camping in a rustic cabin
We say “Doddling” in England! Hihi. I just love all the green forest. What a lovely place you live in. Your videos really cheer me up Wendy. Thank you 😊
Your video is just what I needed this evening. Just returned home to my house in Tampa after the hurricane to a mess. I thought I’d sit on the back porch and figure out my plan of attack to clean up the yard. Decided to watch your video. What a calming distraction. Thank you
well, I am happy to hear this gave you a few minutes rest. What a terrible situation for you. thank fully you are uninjured. thanks for taking time to send along your comment. Hope your clean up goes well.
Love your outings. I know all of us have different ideas and ways we do things. For extra warmth in cooler months I use a solar blanket under my sleeping bag or mat either way I am warmer.

Great tip! thanks Randy. I have one of those and use it in the winter but hesitated to add it to my back pack. I will rethink that next time.
I don't know if it would be worth the added weight for me. I'm not a regular backpacker, perhaps I would get used to more weight if I went more often.

❤Always a pleasure, Wendy! Such a beautiful spot to be able to enjoy! Thank you!!!😊
You are so welcome!
In your rehydrating, since it’s sealed in a ziplock, maybe flip the bag upside-down every 4-5 minutes? As the water pools at the bottom it should redistribute the full soaking and water pressure to the food that had been on top which would have been fighting gravity to soak up the water.
now that is an easy common sense idea- thanks
Hello Wendy and thank you for this absolutely lovely video. It was great to follow along with you, big hello from west coast of Norway 👋😀
wow- you must have beautiful scenery there- maybe somewhat similar to the northern mainland of Canada's west coast. thanks for your comment.
Thank you again for sharing such gorgeous views on your hikes with nature unfolding itself with all its splendour. See you in your next adventure. Take care!❤
happy to see you then!!
Beautiful hike. Thanks for sharing.
thank you- my pleasure for sure
Hi Wendy Absolutely beautiful video you inspiring ❤
Glad you enjoyed it Maxine- thank you
I think some of those cranes are making their way to my neighborhood in Washington state! Enjoyed this video - the small things you capture, and the large; the music, and the quiet, plus critiquing your experiences - I find it so encouraging as I learn to get myself out into wild areas. Thank you!
thank you for watching and especially taking time to comment.
Love your positive spirit!!!! the simple things in life truly are the best
you are right there Kathy- thank you
Leisure walk is awesome! Never seen the wooden tent spots
Pros and cons to everything! those platforms are an example.
I always bring an accordeon style thin Thermarest mat to put under my Nemo mat. It helps a lot.
You’re really lucky to have such beautiful camping areas to go to. Near Montréal you can’t get anything nearly as beautiful… that’s not private land…😊
Thank you sooo much for sharing the dream!😀❣️
Thanks for the tip! I do have one and have used it in winter. Guess I really didn't think it would be that cold! 🥶
Hi Sue- thanks for joining me again. It was a bit chilly for sure!!

You should us just because you a certain age doesn't mean we can't still live life and have adventures
absolutely- we may ned to make some alterations but -- who cares! we can still have lots of fun.
Such a great video Wendy! Thank you so much for sharing your content with us. I’ve learned so much from you. Take care. Be safe and warm…✌️🙂💚
thank you- will do my best, especially with the warm part!
So beautiful there… another fab video ❤
thanks rose.
I admit I don't sleep a lot while out but for 1 or 2 nights I can get by- Nothing quite like your own bed and pillow!!!
What a beautiful country Canada is!
yes Julie- very diverse and I have only seen a bit of it.
Thanks for taking us along on all your hikes. Really appreciate all your content too!.
thank you for joining me.
Wonderful. I prefer the warmth of car camping. Thanks for taking us along.
It all has its place- I love car camping too!
We say “Doddling” in England! Hihi.
I just love all the green forest. What a lovely place you live in.
Your videos really cheer me up Wendy.
Thank you 😊
I am happy to hear that- thank you.
You are so inspiring, Wendy! Thank you for the beauty and adventure you shared with us.
you are very welcome Wendy
Love your outings. I know all of us have different ideas and ways we do things. For extra warmth in cooler months I use a solar blanket under my sleeping bag or mat either way I am warmer.
thanks Helen- I will do that next time I know it may be cold.
What an inspiration and joy you are Wendy!
many thanks
