Exploring Dharavi - Slum or Powerhouse? Mumbai, India
Welcome to one of the largest slums in the world - Dharavi. Dharavi is commonly referred to as a slum, but is it? We visited Mumbai, India in April 2024 and did a Dharavi tour to find out is it a slum or a powerhouse?
Although nobody truly knows the population of Dharavi as a lot of people are unregistered, it is estimated to have over 1,000,000 residents living in an area of just under 2.4km.
We explore the 3 industrial sides to Dharavi which are recycling, textile and leather before moving on to see the living areas and where the locals do their shopping. Unfortunately we could not film much of the living areas to respect privacy. Becky even bought a Dharavi Leather purse as a souvenir!
Our thanks goes out to Alkama who was working for Inside Mumbai Tours and also grew up in Dharavi.
Inside Mumbai Tours arranged us a bespoke Dharavi tour during our short stay in Mumbai so we could bring you this Parks Travel Guide vlog. If you would like to book on one of their pre-organised tours or even create your own then please visit www.insidemumbaitours.com

Have booked the same trip looking forward to it first cruise been trying to get the wife on one for years I enjoyed the vlog lots of info thanks from a fellow vlogger
12:15 .... that's the peak british moment, really not liking the drink but still being kind enough to say " that's lovely, thanks!"
do we need to book prior for speed boat and public ferry?
For the speedboat yes, public ferry no.
Thank you for this comprehensive review. We have booked Marella Discovery 2 to the Canaries on 4/2/25. Never been on a TUI cruise before but been on quite a few others. This was a last minute decision and price was a big attraction. We are not big drinkers so hopefully the bar waiting times won’t be too painful. Looking forward to a smaller ship after MSC Seaside etc.
beautiful❤
Brilliant vlog! We going on Exotic Islands + Cocktails & Coconuts in 3 weeks time. 1st time cruise and 1st time out of Europe (we’re from Yorkshire too). We’re really excited but I’m still feeling nervous so it makes me feel better watching vlogs and seeing what to expect. Thank you.
My om also told me this LOL
really good review looks like you had a good time
theres some video in your background noise
First time visit in April will have to try some of these places!
Great video. So cool being able to feed the animals, and the markets seem much bigger than I imagined. A question for John; as someone who doesn't like heights, how did you find the train ride? I'm thinking of taking my Mum on this train trip but she's also afraid of heights, and after seeing videos of the train going over the bridges she's not sure she'd be able to do it. I know there are a lot of bridges but I'm thinking if most of the ride is on solid ground she might be alright. If you can still remember how bad it was height-wise that'd be really helpful. I think if anything bothered you she'd definitely struggle. Thanks.
Thank you for all the information. Going in May, can't wait for it !
You guys are suckers, just asking for it.stop at 11.00 ,didn't want to see more.
One of the best and honest reviews I've seen for Marella Cruises. Definitely agree with the queuing for drinks, can be nightmare
how does the air smell i want to go there this year but my wife is worried about the smell, social media worries
Great review
Going on this Ship From Gatwick to Barbados in FEB Cool Vid
Really helpful vlog
Used to live there 1996 season was banging , ministry of sound dj's and every bar was rammed , one of the best times of my life. YAMMAS 🍻

I'm so happy you showed hermes grill, they're honestly the best people with good honest home cooked food. Its rare to find such a genuine place in a tourist area. It's real hidden gem.
Oh i SO miss our trip last december to Reethi Faru Resort 😩it was absolute paradise and the tranquility we really needed
I tried to search about tan mahal in TH-cam cuz we are going there next month January 2025
I have now been on 3 cruises with Marella and have booked a family cruise Son daughter in law and 3 grandchildren and my husband in July. As an all inclusive cruise in a basic cabin it’s fantastic value, however the food is just good to ok. Yes bars are very busy. Self service buffet can be very crowded. I agree I like the ex RCI ships for size, however the standard is higher with Royal Caribbean. I have travelled many times with RCI and if you want to take it up a level you will pay a lot more. I like Tui Marella because I find the larger suites are good value and add to the on board experience. Sun beds on your balcony and extras that make cruising a bit more special. Cruising is not what it was the dress down crowd have won the day. Casual smart is fine but it’s not even that level now. However I like the Britishness of the ships compared to the American cruise lines. I like what Tui cruises have to offer and I know what to expect so I don’t complain about the negatives.
Loved the video were travelling to KL on Jan 1st never been b4 were going for 3 nights also would you say £125 a day spends is enough for a couple ?
@@johnshores6061 Hey John. It would be more than enough for us but everyone is different as to where they want to eat and drink. If it's high end places then you may struggle but if it's similar to what we did then you'll very comfortably get by as we were on approx £60 between us per day.
@ParksTravelGuide thanks m8 I like free stuff too and we live in Bangkok so are happy eating on the streets .
Hmmm the hospitality is nice
Great video , pros n cons ❤
@@pravinapankhania5692 thanks 🙂
great video.is there anywhere you can recommend that does good quality cocktails in a nice setting.i dont mind paying bit extra.
@@ianpearson8976 in fairness they are all much of a muchness around the new town. You're best bet is the old town which is like a totally different resort in itself. Unfortunately we can't specifically name anywhere as we've always gone for wine or beer but it's definitely the area you need to be looking.
A wee thing called a subscribe button! 😂 Im subscribed!
Thanks very much 🙂
Poor food and poor service
I've just come off this ship and it was a shambles. We had a junior suite on deck 8 and had ants all over the room. It's was the repositioning cruise from palma . Never again on this ship
@@marcboaler1170 sorry to hear you had a rough time. It certainly doesn't sound pleasant at all 👎🏽
Do you know they have 8 person boat is well only 6 person?
@@TothZoltan-f5q If we are being honest - we don't know. We would imagine there would be one but you'll have to ask. Some boats looked like they could easily seat 10.
Nice video reason for the cues like u say it was a booze cruise hence the cues.
@@7gatcliffe Yeah it's sad to see what it once was and what it has become. It will appeal to some though so it's only right we show the real side. Thanks for watching!

hi guys. Is the Sri Lankan app PickMe safe to use? Do you need to add your card details there?
Im a bit angry, you didn't show the negativ side of kredhi inn .. because of this video I booked it and now, first day Im looking for a new one
@@veromoda8147 Hey there. We had no issues which is why. What's happened?
sri lanka is filled with these kind of people everywhere. don't trust any one here. if some one trying to nice and talk to you, beware of these kind of people. 99% of sri lanka people like these. as a local ashamed of being sri Lankan. I wish I was born another first world country. this is a third world country. this third world people don't know how to respect any people. garbage everywhere like india. but most of these places are hiding from to tourist to avoid their third world mind. sri Lankan need to learn harmony with our own people and to be honest to foreigners like this. one of most hated thing is our people smiling with ugly teeth even can't fix with that. I know this is look like racist to myself, but our people need to learn that we should not show to the slavery mind to world and then behave like beggar or second citizen , if there isn't any choice. may be sri Lankan lady honest than men in my country. but not all. there are scamming women found here. but most of men approach you, it mean they wanted to touch your ass and harassing you. most of are gay and pervert people. beware !!! do not talking to them. just avoiding them...
Wow! Instant subscribe from me! I've just stumbled across your video and you almost had me in tears at the end! What an awesome journey you have been on, a real bucket list achievement! Well done and thanks for sharing! ❤
Global backpackers for only 18- 35 yr olds only
I think those Tiki Huts used to be accommodation. It looked beautiful but the ratings were very bad. I guess they didn't survive.
I was there 20 years ago and it was great
Definitely lots of changes since then! Thanks for watching 🙂
How long did you stay in Bentota ? Isa week too long ? 🙏
If you're travelling around the country then we feel 4 nights is about right. There's not a lot to do and the resort is pretty chilled. We stayed either 4 or 5 nights, it was a while ago so difficult to remember 🙂
@@ParksTravelGuide thanks travelling around the triangle then 1week Marissa need another beach for 1week before airport ?
@susantriance5219 you could stay a week in Bentota if you don't mind it quiet, especially on a night. The beach is huge. Mirissa is nice but we liked Hikkaduwa too. Plenty of choice!
@@ParksTravelGuide did u find it very pro Russian tourist? At Hikkaduwa
@susantriance5219 When we first went Unawatuna was the main Russian resort. Now the Russians have taken Mirissa and Hikka too. We wouldn't go back again but if you can see past that then fair play. Just watch out for the tuktuk drivers in Mirissa as they are a law unto themselves with the extortionate prices they charge.
What month did you go to Rhodes? Is September a busy period?
@@digitalcreatorblueprint This was filmed during a day trip in June. We've been in September and the weather is still nice and it can be reasonably busy. If the cruise ships are in then it's very busy.
You’ve beautifully captured the essence of this place!🙂 Where to go next? 🏜
Thank you very much. This was very much a 'one off' that we had to open people's eyes to see. The life people in the West hate could be the life that Dharavi residents can only dream of.
Next week :D
Have a beer for us!
Ao Nang or Phuket for a first trip to Thailand?
Ao Nang is more sedate and less seedy than the likes of Pattaya in Phuket but it all depends on what you want out of the trip. If you want to ease yourself in then we'd suggest Ao Nang.
Id recommend Ao Nang but there is a lot to do in Phuket too. Ao Nang has better access to the islands and is less seedy than the likes of Patong Phuket but still pretty vibrant. If its clubbing all night your after then Patong Phuket is the go. This video shows a lot of Ao Nang, great video.
