Maafushi Maldives Guide - Prices and Things to Do 2023

- We visited Maafushi in the Maldives to see if we could do it on a budget.
Is the Maldives expensive? Where should you stay in the Maldives? Is Maafushi expensive? What is there to do in the Maldives? How to get to Maafushi?
These are some of the questions we answer for you.
This was filmed in April and the weather was HOT! It takes approximately 1 hour with a fast speedboat to get to Maafushi Island and costs $25 per person each way. We booked ours through Icom tours. The local ferry runs twice a day from Male to Maafushi and costs $1.40 per person. This takes around 90 minutes as it is slower but is more affordable.
We show you around the island of Maafushi and give you examples of menu's and also a budget snorkelling trip that we did that takes in #Biyadhoo Island, the amazing coral garden and even turtle spotting for $35 each.

Thanks very much for your lovely words folks, it's lovely to wake up to a comment like this as we're a little down at the moment as our 6 month trip has now ended and it's back to reality. We've still got 4 more vlogs to come though. It was a tough one to do but the Maldives is 100% worth the hype and the effort of getting to the islands. We'll be trying Gulhi or Fulidhoo next time as Fulidhoo is closer to one of the main snorkeling spots, although we saw a few island hoppers just popping to Gulhi for the day as it's about 20 minutes or so from Maafushi. Hey Kezza! The Maldives was exactly how we had it in our heads. The sun was so fierce that it made filming incredibly difficult. We really enjoyed the cruise and it was good to catch up on the eating we had missed 😆 Think we've both put the weight back on that we lost. Down in Santorini now ready to start the last adventure with some local islands before we head back to the UK. That will be it now until the end of May for the vlogs as we'll take over editing when we get home, but the socials will remain current. Thanks for watching as always love! x

Hey Harisa. Thank you very much. We only ate at the 2 featured on the vlog as we stayed 3 nights. There are a few more on the island but these were in our budget and where we ate on our stay 🙂

Hey Anne! Unfortunately they screen all bags on landing at the airport (including hand luggage) and any alcohol is confiscated and destroyed. The same applies on leaving the country.

hi this is amazing thanks for the info! i wanted to ask, what time of year did you go? and did you experience any bad weather?
Hi Aleena. This was filmed in April last year. No bad weather but the sun was fierce and the heat hard for us to deal with. One scene on this vlog took 23 takes to get all the information across as we were suffering with heat exhaustion. In fairness most of the vlog was hard to film because of it. Clear blue sky all the way as long as we were there.

Hey! We were there during the first week in April for our wedding anniversary. Can't comment on what it's like in September I'm afraid but all we know is it's not technically tourist season, especially for the UK. Unfortunately you'll have to look at average forecasts for that time of month as we wouldn't want to give you false information. Thanks very much for watching 🙂

The wall was before alcohol, luckily it was level (ish) on the way back. A truly stunning part of the world!
Great video? How did you do 4 nights or 3 nights? Also for the local ferry did you just have to turn up somewhere to get it or did you have to pre book?
Hey Louise. We did 4 nights as we dropped on some good flight times and prices from Kochi and then from Malé to Mumbai to continue our journey. With the local ferry you just turn up and join the queue then pay onboard. There's plenty of seating so even though it looks like a lot of people in line there is plenty of room. Not on this island. I think the same applies for the other local islands too but we can't be 100% sure. We wouldn't survive the fierce heat in a tent anyway! Haha. Thanks for watching 🙂

To go in a normal party in Maldives you must be in a exclusive resort ?
If it involves alcohol then yes. Only private islands are exempt from the alcohol rule. They have a bit of a party on this floating boat though.
Hi, can you tell us how much the whole trip was and for how many days?
Hi there. We stayed 4 nights and were on a budget of £60 per day for both of us. All the prices are in the vlog for the hotel, meals and tour etc but we don't have a 'total' figure unfortunately. It's as close as to what you see as money was tight. It's certainly a fraction of the cost compared to what people normally pay for the Maldives though.

Sadly not. We've featured the cheapest restaurant on the island though. You can buy cup noodles and things from the local supermarket but that's about it.

I lived few months backpacking on cheap in Maldives when no one had heard that name in mid 1980s, bumming around different islands when Club Med was the only foreing resort.
@@shamswho agreed. The Maldives are always seen as luxury, and rightly so. I suppose at least our vlog has tried to make it affordable for those with less money to visit rather than dream. You can't please everyone though.

I wouldn’t really recommend going to maafushi I recommend going to kandima it’s cheap and nicer than maafushi and maafushi has a very not nice water and beach I went there a lot of times and stayed at the same place you guys stayed btw I’m also Maldivian

Maafushi is a completely dry island and operates under Sharia law as we explained in the vlog. The boat we filmed is the only place to drink alcohol and it opens on an evening

Hey Heroba. They are really good questions. Firstly were from England. We fund our own trips and activities and do not receive any money or discounts from the places we stay or eat/drink in. We hope that one day we can find a sponsor as it will make it easier financially for us, although we refuse to be paid to say things are good if they are not. We're now using Filmora 11 for our editing which is more powerful than what we had before and the difference is clear to see. Hopefully that's answered everything for you!
What was all the smoke going into the air?
That's all the local rubbish that's taken to an area at the other side of the island near the prison and then gets burnt. We only noticed it on that particular day.

It's the opposite side of the island to Bikini beach. More or less opposite Sunrise beach and spa.

Still worth it though James. Kochi to Malé is just over an hour hence the cheap flights but we'd definitely pay more if it meant we could head back to Thailand on another trip. Usually people recommend places to us and we're a bit 'meh' about it. The Maldives certainly lives up to the hype.

Hey Mark. Nearly all of the restaurants have an extensive menu of meat, fish and vegetarian (except pork as it's not Halal) so your partner won't need to worry.
