  • We are finally back in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. A place we left a bit of our hearts in 2017. What has changed in the beautiful city of Chiang Mai since covid? Will we still love it?
Chiang Mai really is the city of temples and food. If you love food then this really is your place. Are you asking yourself 'What is there to do in Chiang Mai?'. In fairness the city sleeps during the day but really comes alive on a night and is a backpackers or budget travellers paradise as food can be pretty cheap at the Chiang Mai night bazaar and food markets.
On this episode we cover 3 different food markets all around the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar area including Ploen Rudee, Kalare food market and briefly touch on Chill Square food market which is inside the Anusarn market.
We also walk to the temples such as Wat Phan On and Wat Phra Singh but find ourselves caught out by some very realistic looking monks!
Lots of information filmed in a day to show you the best of what awaits you if you decide to take a trip to Chiang Mai.

Very informative video. I will be in Chiang Mai in about a month and i love how you toured the night markets and showed the food AND prices. I cant wait to get there! Nicely done! Thanks!

Hi Jim. We always show prices on every vlog we do, even back to our very first one as it's the thing we ask ourselves before going somewhere new so we know how much to budget or expect to pay. We absolutely love Chiang Mai and could quite easily live there. We're currently in Krabi and although the South is nice, it just doesn't have what the North does. Hope you have a fantastic time and we are incredibly jealous already! John & Becky x

Finally, a guide for normal travellers on a budget. I get full of "budget advices" from popular vloggers with hundreds k of subs for nothing with useless advices.
Thank you for this one, really helpfull. Appreciate.
What I can see if I compare from my 2 day stay in 2019 is that food is twice as expansive than back there, but is normal. In january 2024 I will got back to Chiang Mai for 1 full week.

Hey there! Thanks so much for your lovely words. We do our best to be as transparent and honest in every vlog we film. We often find ourselves looking for certain answers that people don't give... especially the stuff you really need to know so that's why we try to fill the gap. Thailand has got more expensive for sure and that will probably continue. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai was cheaper than down in the south. We found Vietnam more budget friendly all round and that will probably be our first choice over Thailand next time. Hope you have a great trip!

Hey Warren. 7-11 saved our tight budget in many countries but got a bit tiring. Becky loved the cheese toasties in Thailand but for me the starch in the plastic cheese got a bit too much 😆. The air con was definitely a welcome relief though. Thanks for watching!

It's still as good as the last time we went in 2018. This time we extended our stay by 4 nights as we find Chiang Mai hard to leave, it has this hold on you. Definitely cheaper in the North than the South. Thanks for watching and we're glad it's given you some useful info...that's what we try to do on all of our vlogs 🙂

6 months on the road is epic. Keep it going. We were hoping to be in North Thailand again this Summer, but Laos is so much more than we expected. We will be in this are on Our World tour, however. Super excited. It looks like quite a fun time you had. Good on you! We are both ecological anthropologists. Bear studies food culture and food production, and I am a sustainability archaeologist. As such, we love to meet and support creators and guides who share the history, culture, food, and nature on social media. Love what you are doing and hope you might like ours too. Cheers! - Turtle

Hey there. Lovely message to wake up to so thank you. It's not all sunshine and rainbows with full time travel let us assure you. As nice as it is you also get some bad days, that's the real side. We kind of kicked ourselves that we didn't do Laos from Chiang Rai but it's something to leave for the future. We hope you have a great time when you go, Chiang Mai definitely has our hearts ♥️

Hey again. We always show prices wherever we go and have done since our very first vlog as it's the question we ask ourselves when we go somewhere new and that's the overall 'niche' of our channel. We travel on a budget so although we don't show high end places as in all honesty we simply can't on this trip due to our tight budget, we think even the basics provide a baseline to calculate a daily budget without having to go in blind. We're currently down in Ao Nang so we've got that and a 4 islands boat trip coming soon before we leave Thailand.

Ey up Kezzzaaaa! Chiang Mai really is a special place to us. We felt idiots after but we doubt we were the first and won't be the last! The food is fantastic, although on a price point for us we have £40 between us (less if the hotel and travel for that day is over £20 which is all too often) so our budget hasn't really gone as far in Thailand, especially down in the South where we are now. Glad to see you pop up in our notifications! Much love x

Hey Freddy. They are all on the same main road as the night market about 100m apart if that, but still surrounded by the stalls. Ploen Rudee is opposite Hilal street and the others are on the opposite side of the road a bit further down. If you Google the night market then you'll see what we mean. Thanks for watching buddy!
