    as a local I believe most of Sri Lankan think every foreigner is waiting to pay thousand of money. 😅🤣😂that's the problem with our people. they think every foreigner are millionaire.😂🤣😅😆 and now sri lanka 90% entering to tourism market. so they are new. so they don't know how to deal with foreigners. they think they are doing the right thing to making money. but sadly they don't think they are harassing them instead nicely deal with them. please if you have a problem please show this videos to tourism police. then ministry of tourism board. may be they will take a action for this problem soon .as a sri lankan this is a shame as a citizen.😪😪😪 because not every one is same like this scammers.

      Hey Janitha. We understand there are more good Sri Lankans than bad. Unfortunately we have most of our trouble in Colombo but we also learned from last year as we were in the country then too. Mirissa is just as bad with the rickshaw mafia. If we overcharged foreigners coming to England we would be arrested for racism/discrimination and fined a lot of money in court, maybe put into prison for a short time too. At least if we can warn people visiting then the ones who exploit tourists will eventually realise they can't get away with it anymore. I believe someone from the tourist board has viewed this vlog since it's release. The Russians won't accept it and unfortunately for Sri Lanka that's the majority of tourists that will be (and are) visiting the country. Thanks for watching Janitha and don't worry, we've met more good Sri Lankans than bad ones 🇱🇰

    Hi, brother and sister
    I love you both so much❤ 😘
    and specially i'm so happy how you explained the tuk tuk scam driver to his fault and i felt so happy and proud of you guys, and this country people and government should know lots of things from you about how should economy needs to be developed coz my point of view according to my knowledge they should ordain prices for foreigners as same as or less prices than locals , that can promote the tourism industry of this country and that can stop some people scamming anyone and that can change and boost this economy without any hesitation guys,
    anyway ☺️
    and i'm so happy you enjoyed kottu and specially mention about me,
    i hope one day i can be able to meet you and treat you.

      Hey buddy! No worries. We couldn't miss this out as people need to be aware of it. Tuk drivers are the leading cause of problems for tourists in Sri Lanka with their stupid prices and scams. If we charged tourists more than natives in England we would be sued! The hotel was fantastic though! You are more than welcome for the mention 🙂

    Always Always negotiate the price of the ride with the Tuk Tuk driver before getting inside. I am Sri Lankan and I am saying this is a must do. If you are going to be in Sri Lanka for some time tourists can rent a small car either with standard shift transmission or automatic and drive around Sri Lanka yourself. Nice videos as always.

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Varuna. The price was set on the Pickme app but he chose to go against that. If you've used Pickme (which you probably have) you'll know it's the same as Uber where the fares are fixed so you don't need to negotiate. We are more than aware of the scams especially with TukTuk's but we thought we would be ok with Pickme as the 2 journeys previous went without a problem. There's always one bad egg though! Thanks for watching!

      @@ParksTravelGuide These TukTuk drivers are waiting to make money for their business. Because there is so many of them that each one don't get enough business. Tourists think they are like taxis but they are not taxis. You don't have to use apps to order a TukTuk. You can find them anywhere on any street or corner or wave to them on the road. It's been nice to talk with you again. All the Best!

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@varunagoonasekera7329 Hey again. As we said on the vlog they wanted 3 x the price most of the time. How is 1,500 acceptable for a 3km journey given that in Colombo it's what...120/km? In Mirissa we had to pay 800 for a 1.5km ride but they quoted a local 300 to the same place? The issue is they see the colour of your skin and think you're a cash cow. If meters were mandatory it would solve a few of the issues too, but then they can be fiddled to a degree. If normal Tuk's didn't take advantage then fewer people would use PickMe and Uber. Unfortunately tourists don't help by agreeing to the highly inflated prices either as the drivers think that if one person will pay it then others will. We see your point and don't get us wrong - everyone has to earn a living but there's a right way and a wrong way of doing it. We've spoken to many locals about the same thing and they agree that they are getting too greedy with tourists. We can only hope that changes 🤞🏽

      @varunagoonasekera7329 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ParksTravelGuide Agreed. Drivers charge much more for tourists. They see the colour of their skin. It's not only TukTuk drivers this happens in other places as well. I believe the government should play a part in this in trying to curtail this practice. I also feel that the tourists feel somewhat intimidated when they arrive in Sri Lanka. It takes them a while to get used to. Take care.

      @@varunagoonasekera7329 I am a Sri Lankan. So I would like to advise you to use only Tuk tuk with meters in Sri Lanka or ask the price before start the journey if you don’t use mobile apps. Don’t use tuk tuks without meters. Coz most of them charge you more than the real price. As a tourists you have to be careful from tuk tuk drivers and pavement sellers.

      Unfortunately we knew full well that it would happen in Colombo, it was just a case of when. Tuk drivers do a fantastic job in ruining the image of Sri Lanka by ripping tourists off. I thought I was recording the last bit of the conversation where Becky really laid into him but sadly not. The biryani was top notch, the kotthu was alright. Ready for India? 😬

    Hi both, love the videos, my wife and I are heading to Sri Lanka in January for an extended stay I was wondering what website/app you used to book your hotels, is it better to book in advance or wait till we're there, thanks.

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey folks. We use Booking.com and Agoda for all of our hotels. We don't generally find we save much (if any) money by walking in and asking. If you see a hotel you like then book it as on our 6 month trip we often had to take the scrapings of what was left when we didn't book in advance. Hope it helps and thank you for the support 🙂

    Thank you for the videos and the information you provided, my wife and I will be traveling to Sri Lanka this September, and I have a question, see if you could help us, do you have any suggestions for a cool place where we can stay in Columbo, looking for an area where there's a lot going on, NOT A QUIET AREA. Thank you again.

      Our hotel that we featured was fantastic. You can easily get a Tuk outside that will take you to a busier place but we found the Sky Bar absolutely fine for us and we could hear a club nearby.

      The hotel is now approx £120/night? Did you get the conversion correct?

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We sure did. Prices fluctuate depending on different factors including time of season but then a year has gone by since we filmed it too. That's the reason we jumped on it as it seemed a great deal for what you got...and for once we could comfortably afford anything on the menu, including bottles of spirits.

      How far in advance did you book your train ticket from Bentota to Colombo? Lastly how long would you suggest to spend in Colombo? Love your travel guides btw! 👍👍

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@richardsteer3549 hey Richard. Thanks very much. We booked it on the day and there were plenty of tickets, however, we wouldn't do it again. Worst train journey ever standing up in a congested and humid carriage. We'd suggest paying the extra, sacking it off and getting a private car to take you as that's exactly what we'd do next time as it was painful. A couple of nights in Colombo is probably enough. We filmed this vlog in a day and saw most of it.
