We have done every aspect of this build ourselves but getting our new tires in the rim seems to be the most difficult part we have come across. Hopefully this new tool will be the difference. I’m ready to get back to building the bikes but want to see this part through 1st. #xs650 #chopper #motorcycle

Yamaha xs650 chopper build. Install fake oil tank, forward controls, battery box and clean for paint
มุมมอง 4.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Before we can paint, we need to install all the remaining items that need to be welded and clean the frame up before paint. This video we will install the rear fender mounts, fake oil tank for the electronics, battery box, seat mount, and pivot bracket for the forward controls. When we are done we will clean all the welds with a polishing wheel and mud the frame to remove any deep scratches

7:14 Your valve adjustments are way too wide. They are to be set at thousands not hundredths. Correct timing for inlet is .002 and for exhaust .004. Hope this helps.
I got this bright idea and 5 years later the motors sitting in boxes😂
I heard that you should not use synthetic oils on these old triumphs because you could spend the main bearing and destroy it.
Following you guys, good energy. Got a 650 I know less then more about. But this got me motivated to keep at it till it runs again 😎
I have a 70 tr6r and I changed the primary gasket but don’t know what type of oil I should use is a 650
Where can we order the brass gaskets Man? Tnx
Love the RoboCop movie in the background. I’m wondering who ported the heads? I ran a 13.8 stock in my ‘94 Z28
Why springer is on that orange bike?
Amazing
Where do I add the gearbox and the primary chaincase oils in a 1970 Triumph Daytona 500?
My 1970 Daytona 500 is configured differently. I can't remove ANY of the drain plugs, especially that huge one at the top of the crankcase. Not sure where the bottom drain plug is located. Nobody in my area will touch a Triumph. Super screwed.
Great video, bikes are looking awesome. I’m still not sure on a temu welder. 😂
Hahahahaha, me either
run a dry battery not one that will leak and make a mess for u!
I agree, was using what I had lying around
Good to see you guys back!
Thanks bud
😎👍😎 Opposite of your chain..cut side of battery box off..leaving about an inch from bottom..then 2 pieces of 1/4 " thread rod on long sides of battery, and a piece of angle rod on top of battery to clamp down.. Isn't recrifier/ regulator supposed to be bolted to frame ..instead of wire tied..to complete circut .. You'll probably be sunburnt from welding U.V.rays on your bald head and face ..using a cutting goggles instead of a Helmut.. Cool builds ..keep hammering along ...
I’ll check on that rectifier. Hasn’t been an issue but doesn’t mean I didn’t do it right. Hahaha
Very helpful if you must build from scratch. All my electronicals are currently working (get it? Currently lol) so i will be just extending my wires to relocate them
Dude ur the bomb 💣
I did my XS650 tires and tubes with the cheap spoons off Amazon and lots of glass cleaner for lube. kneeling of floor and plenty of gumption. 4 out of 5 were successful.
😎👍🏻😎
I spray stuff that has heavy carbon with Easy-Off Grill cleaner first let it soak before cleaning
Just wondering were you coughing a lot the next day?
The welds…?? Yikes lol
Where did you guys get the red in a spray can?
That’s the crankcase breather pipe on early units
A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't.
Hahahaha, agree
If your bike is wet sumping most of the time you will throw oil out the breather, suspect worn oil pump , strip and service oil pump or replace problem solved, ( when this kind of oil pump gets worn oil leaks past the pumps plungers hence wet sump , when pump is not worn no wet sumping , hope that explains it
Happy Birthday to our May 6 guys Shedbilly and Chopper Steve!!
Hahahaha, thank you
One day ill build a chopper of my xs650 too. Good content guys!
Thanks bud, hope you do. They are a lot of fun
Xs 650....best twin ever built!!!!!
Good to hear from you bud
Sounds like it's running on one cylinder....
I have never run into an unwanted motorcycle in my long life.
It's alot easier if you put a little air in the tube first, also soapy water on the bead helps
Thanks for the tip. After we put this vid together I watched some more vids on tire changing and noticed that. Just ordered another tube and we'll give it another go.
if you don't have the bead in the drop of rim its a bitch to get on .use wd 40 for lube it eventually dries and won't rust your rim like water. and get yourself some tyre irons .
Good advice. Definitely will give that a try
I do them on my xs650 just as I would my tour de France what's the big deal? Too tight? Heat gun
It was unbelievably tight
Good to have y’all back. I’ve been doing tires for years and will still mess up a tube sometimes it’s just one of those things that happens. Keep up the good work see you on the next one.
Yea, we are definitely stumbling with this
😎👍😎 .
They're back! You might want to check the engine mounts because the engine was moving when you were revving it up, also it could be just me but I think the plug leads are a little long? Cant wait to see the Easy Rider video when you two take em out for a ride when they're done.
Well I built is so you know it’s loose. Hahahaha
Triumphs,,,if there's no oil on them, there's no oil in them.
Where are the updates…. Keep them going brotha 👍👍
It’s coming now that the track is open again
Really good content. Thank you.

Great video on the rebuild! Couple of tech tips I'll add: 1st, I see your choke linkages have already been removed. Very common on chopper setups. You need to plug the top of carb where the cable was coming in, air will get in and lean your mixture. Also, over time the ethanol fuel will deteriorate the stock white floats, there are black floats on the market made to address this. Both the plugs and floats are available from Lowbrow. Lastly, to balance the 2 carb setups use a tool called a air flow balance meter that fits over carb mouth. This will help dial in the fuel adjustment screws and ensure even fueling and performance. Spray around the intake after installation to ensure no air leaks, it's easier to over tighten and create air leaks from warping than most people guess. Happy motoring bud!
Great video, thanks for the detailed info. 2 notations I'd say as a guy who builds motors and a certified motorcycle tech. 1st, as with any flat tappet cam motor, using a high zinc oil is crucial. Most m/c oils don't have that present. 2nd, m/c oils are formulated for a common bath system for the wet clutch. Whereas said clutch is a separate gear case, m/c oil isn't required. I recommend Castrol classic 20w50.
Thanks Mich, your input is definitely appreciated. I’m always trying to learn more
20-50 mineral oil is better for older bikes.
You’re not the only one giving me that advice. I’m definitely going to keep that in mind on my next build
How many cans did you use pal?
I used one in the tank but 3 total
Nothing like finding a new creator only to find out they don't finish videos/projects. Don't plan on me watching any other videos . If u couldn't hit the 12second mark then tell us . Would rather have closure then think u were just too pussy to do it
Hang in there bud. I’m in the process of a few upgrades as we speak. I’ll have an update this April when I get back
As some one who owns a 95 camaro z28 and builds choppers like yourself, this video was great. Definitely hoping to see a follow up video on this badass z28 soon!!
April. Just finishing up a few things on the old Z now
Looks like and 8k dollar sleeper to me.
Those are the coolest

That’s awesome. They are definitely fun and surprisingly reliable
