Women Woodland Camping in Wales & Sugarloaf Hike - Spring 2023
Join me on Patreon! www.patreon.com/TinyPineOutdoors
In April 2023, myself an a few other women set out to almost-wild-camp in a woodland in Wales. It was organised by the owner of the Facebook group, Might Be Lost: Women in the Outdoors. We pitched our tents and got to exploring the woods before starting a campfire where we'd cook our food & tell stories all night.
The following day, we'd pack away and make our way to Abergavenny, where we met up with some more women from the group to hike up Sugarloaf!
It was all so much fun and I met some wonderful people. :)
(This actually took place before I hiked the Coast to Coast! The camera used for this was my GoPro Hero 7 White which films in 1080p, which as you know from my C2C videos my more up to date hikes are filmed in 4K with my GoPro Hero 11 Black)
I used the HiiKER app to navigate the day hikes on this trail, such as sections of The Cumbria Way, as well as all of my other hikes. If you want the yearly subscription for 50% off, use my code: TINYPINE50

As arranged the previous night by Callum at Blakey Ridge, I was picked up by a lovely couple who took me down into Glaisdale. I chose to do this for a couple reasons, being time & having my devices charged, a safety precaution I won't compromise. If I had continued on from Blakey ridge ...

After climbing uphill into the moorlands, I came across Bloworth crossing, a remote section of moorlands where the C2C and...

Thank you for sharing your WHW-Adventure. It was quite a inspiration for my own WHW hike last year. Haste Ya Back
A very cool video, thank you for sharing. An amazing and special place, I see why you feel grounded there and keep returning.
Just started watching the C2C. Loving it already. What were you using to shoot the video?
Glad you’re enjoying it! I used the GoPro Hero 11 Black to film this 😁
Just started watching. Already suspicious. Can’t be the UK. There was blue in that sky.
@@lemonflavouredquark haha!😂 it was beautiful Wales which, like the rest of the UK, has the same climate as rainy England so we definitely got so lucky with the weather, in April especially!
Where are you from , if its ok to ask
I’m from Bolton, Lancashire originally 😁
Awesome I live in Scarborough not far from Robin Hoods Bay lovely area
I don't mean to sound silly and I hope you don't mind me saying you're extremely pretty
@@richardeade3766 that’s very kind of you, thank you!
Another cracking video lass...I thought that sheep was stood on a podium about 2 and half minutes in 😂😂😂
Haha I see it! 😂
Another wonderful video. Nice of you to briefly make an appearance and let us put a face to the voice. I'm wondering if this was filmed before the Coast to Coast as the title says Spring 2023?
Thank you! Yeah I'm slowly getting more comfortable in front of the camera:) This was filmed about a month before the Coast to Coast, I put out those videos first as I wanted them published asap then came back to work on these 😁 my following videos from this one will all be chronological & after the C2C
Oh wow you're eyes are beautiful
Oh thank you!
What a chilled out video and the cat was boss! The Blorenge, that overlooks Abergavenny, is another great hike. On a clear day, great views of Mid Wales, the Marches, South Wales, the Severn Estuary and the Cotswolds can be seen from the summit top. It’s a really good hike actually. I have seen wild campers on Blorenge and plenty of wild ponies. Keepers Pond and the Punchbowl are well worth a visit on the Blorenge hike.
Thank you, yeah that cat was brilliant ☺️ ooo they sound great! I'll keep them on my radar:)
Lovely Video well filmed edited and gently presented. Hope to see more of your adventures
Thank you I’m so glad you thought so!🥰
Absolutely brilliant! The Sugarloaf is always a good climb with rewarding views, I'll never tire of it.
Thank you! Yeah it was a great hike 😁
❤ Free people ❤
❤ you are Blessed ❤
That vineyard coffee shop is great but giving way, reversing up hill in a family car round those lanes is terrifying!
Still with you Babe ❤
That is a beautiful cat! It's been decades since I was in Abergavenny, my girlfriend at the time had friends with a farm out there, and we went to visit when it was one of their birthdays. Great fun, lovely place.
The cat was lovely, and yeah Abergavenny is great with lovely surroundings 😁
Lovely chill vlog and not all me me me absolutely loved it.
So glad you think so ☺️
Lovely video Jen! The owl noise at 11.20 woke Bellé up and now she's looking around my room frantically 😂
Haha that’s brilliant! Bless her 😂
That's a great looking pizza! I love your "leave no trace" outlook. Look, I'm an off-roader. It's my first love and I've been doing that since I was a teenager, and I'm 57 now. My friends and I are in vehicles that could easily destroy pristine land, but we stick to trails that are meant for off-road and overland vehicles. One time in, I think '99, my brother and I were around Ouray, Colorado. It's pretty heavily forested up there with amazing views. We parked our jeeps and decided to day hike along a foot trail to a place rumored to have a hot spring. We came across a spot just off trail that was totally trashed. Beer cans, soda cans, food wrappers and discarded camping supplies just littered the place. It was disgraceful. There was an ice chest left behind and even a toilet seat. Flattened vegetation, where tents had obviously been, indicated to us that they had left only recently. We ended up camping nearby in hopes that they would come back so we could "express our displeasure" but they never did. So, good for you ladies for leaving no trace. Sadly, we don't get that a lot here in the US. Rock on!
Thank you so much, and yes LNT is one of my main principles when out & about! It’s important for people to adhere to it not only just to respect the outdoors & wildlife, but so campers/wild campers don’t get a bad reputation. It’s unfortunate that those who trash scenic sites after a camping trip is the main reason why wild camping isn’t legal in England (but is tolerated as long as you’re quiet & tidy) so I do my best to leave a place as I found it. Thanks for sharing your story, and for being someone who respects the outdoors too 😁
Beautiful, simple, great places. 👍
Thank you 🥰
A lovely nice and chilled out video! That cat was so cute 😍. I love sugarloaf definitely of my favourite mountains ⛰️.
Thank you Matt, it was a special experience for sure!😁
Such a lovely and relaxing video. And what a good idea to have a women's camping/walking group. The cat was very cute as well 😊
Glad you enjoyed it, it was a great experience 😁 and yes the cat was so sweet! 🐈⬛
Gorgeous film my friend, shots are amazing!
Thank you so much, glad you think so! 😁
Superb trip Tiny. A nice approach to camp - I agree it's a good way to start the adventure. Lovely food cooked up there and some nice views of the Blorenge from across the way. Re-the Sugar Loaf the views are a treat as are the ponies. I can see the mountain from my home and have enjoyed it a good number of times. Well good going. All the best. Mark
Thank you 😁 it was definitely a trip to remember, so many stunning places in Wales and this is definitely one of them⛰️
@@Orenjen A real pleasure. Yeah, Wales is a gem for sure - and the borders are worth exploring to. Have a great week ahead.
Thank you for another great video, that cat was sweet.
Thank you, yeah the cat was sooo cute! Such a lovely experience 🐈⬛
Awsome too see women out together not something you see very often and with the music and voice over very relaxing new sub atvb
I’m so glad you think so, thank you very much!🥰
seems a bit sexist just women, why can't men come?
@@swibwi it’s just a space for women, it’s not that deep. Throughout the years men have men’s clubs, no women allowed etc, so why can’t a group of women go camping in the woods for someone to find an issue due to the lack of men? Especially in such a male dominated activity? It isn’t sexism, and calling something as innocent as this sexist takes all power from actual sexism.
@@Orenjen i respect your opinion , i just feel that we shouldn't be encouraging groups of women to get together without any male supervision as generally women tend to scheme in women only groups , you could all be hatching some sort of dangerous plan for all we know
@@Orenjen liven up grumpy gums it was a harmless joke x
@ sorry if you meant it as a joke, you never know. I think my response covered all bases for those who would actually get offended by the notion of an all-women camping trip.
Hi nice to see you all had a great time beautiful place . Thanks for the upload
@@paulcorbin7495 thank you, glad you enjoyed! It was wonderful ☺️
How's this two tier communist government working out for you?
What?😂
Wow, looks like a great time was had by all. Love to see more like this. Might be a trivial point, but your pizza looked fantastic😊
@@tommaroon531 oh it was wonderful and the pizza was lovely, such a cool experience to cook it on the fire!
At least you had decent weather for it, I was dragged up it as a child in cloud and/or rain and I have nothing good to say about Sugar Loaf. Scarred. 😅 I love cats too - a perfect environment for it but they devastate the wildlife, so I've mixed feelings.
I can imagine in bad weather the hike up sugarloaf can be quite tense! And I'm a cat person too, I suppose it's good for the farm's mice control (even though I love mice too!) which could be an argument, but I know they can attack birds too, that's why I think indoor cats are a better idea than outdoor cats. Though I suppose animals are animals and humans are 100% the most devastating threat to wildlife more than anything... so it's a tricky topic to navigate in my opinion, as a vegetarian, animal lover & cat lover my feelings can often contradict one another, but I suppose that's just like me having a healthy debate with myself 😂
I walked the coast to coast at age 74. Your videos of the trip are most inspiring! Thank you.
@@djmccarten wow that’s so impressive! Well done because it’s not an easy trek! And thank you so much, happy you think so ☺️
A lovely video, its nice to see you back!! Im looking forward to more soon 🙂.
@@matts_hiking_adventures thank you so much! Took a short break & glad to be back, there should be a new one up by the end of this month 😁
Jennifer, thanks so much for this. I'll be hiking the C2C next July and your videos have been so helpful to me. I've really enjoyed your relaxed pace and commentary and that you take the time to show much of the landscape and name the landmarks and places that you are in. I've been following along on my FarOut app of the trail and seeing the actual towns and landscapes and elevations has been amazing. Many of the places that you stayed at were already on my itinerary so it was great to see them for real. Once again, thank you, cheers!
Oh wow, that’s so lovely for you to say! I’m so happy you appreciate the video & finding it helpful for your own hike, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time on the C2C, best of luck!☺️✨
Very nice videos from the WHW. Thx for sharing. Haste ya back.
Thank you, happy you liked it!☺️
If I subscribe can I watch the whole walk cos I’m old and can’t get back on it and it was good.
