Challenger Scat Pack...MMX cam cold start/idle..chop-chop gang.
Just a little cold start vid of my Scat Pack with the forged/cammed 392. Cam is a Modern Muscle Extreme NSR lope 3 profile. Exhaust is all stock other than Dynomax 24250 race bullets in place of the factory mufflers.

First cold start for the new build since getting her home. Ol car has a nice bark to her still...neighbors are going to be loving this...lol. Build is a fully forged bottom end, MMX NSR (non spring change required) cam with lope 3 profile, and supporting valvetrain upgrades. Knowing the Density Altitude and how it can affect your car's performance is very important. It's also good to know where to go so you can correct the ET/MPH to remove the weather variable.

I took the Scat Pack out for a few runs at Friday night Midnight Madness @ Gainesville Raceway on Cinco de Mayo. As such, the Bee was hitting the mixed drinks, with the flavor of the night being E85/93 mixture. I was doing some testing to see how the car would perform with an E85/93 blend in the tank.

      If you mean the resonators under the bumper, those were still stock. I only swapped out the mid mounted units.

    Ive had my best ET in Sport Mode. I run 275/40/R20 BF Goodrich G Force- Comp 2s on my Challenger Scat. They blow away the stock Pirellies that came with it a year ago. No issues dead hooking on the street. I think I would go with Nittos if I raced though.

    I got a 2022 scat Pack was thinking about this cam how is the install I'm a well-experienced mechanic did you have to take off the heads and replace the head gaskets if I'm going to do all that I might as well put headers on it in an exhaust please let me know who sells them

    I will try the mixing of the gas next trip to the track. I have a 21 Challenger Scatpack Widebody and my best was 12.50 @ 108 with a 1.8 60 foot. And that was on M/T Street S/S. I got a long way to go. Which Air Density app do you use? Thank!!

    Hey when you welded the resonators on the over axle, did you have to cut any pieces of the over axle piping off, or did you just weld them right onto the over axle without cutting anything? Like will it Also, where the h pipe connects, did you weld them on that end? In other words, did you weld both ends of the resonators, one side welded to the h pipe and the other side welded onto the over axle pipe? Additionally, if you had to weld on the end to the h pipe, did you have you cut any of the h pipe for the resonators to fit? I’m asking because I was going to take the over axle to a shop and have them weld them on and then install it myself. Please let me know, thanks!

      It's slang for changing out the camshaft in the engine for a more performance oriented one. It usually ends up drastically changing the idle characteristics...ie the idle sounds rough, like it's misfiring, when it's not.

      Thanks Mike. Car was already tuned, but it did set a check engine light. Easy way to avoid the light is to get O2 extensions..think they are also called anti-foulers iirc. They screw into the O2 fitting on the pipe, then the O2 sensors are installed in the extension. They move the sensor out of the exhaust path so it's not overheated and reading out of range. The resonators were located in the straight leg before the crossover, same as the stock ones.

      Mufflers were roughly 50 for the pair. Part number wlk-24250 at Summit Racing. Labor was maybe $100 at a local muffler shop.

    I heard to not do a burnout with stock tires and go around the water box.

      I would just do a quick 2nd gear burnout to clean them off. Long sustained burnouts will make them greasy and slick. The trick is pull around the water, then back up close to it to clean them off. A lot of people drive through the water, which drags it into the launch area and screws the traction up.

      Sean, it drove the same as before the muffler swap. No loss in low end power, no change in drivability, just a nicer snarl to the exhaust note.

      I didn't get a chance to dyno it. It's back in the shop again with valve train noise of some sort. Engine builder is going to tear it down, diagnose, and repair...standing behind his work 100%.

      Removal and reinstall of the engine was done by my buddy Jeremy @ OC Motorsports here in Jacksonville. The engine build was done by Charles Barrett @ Hellraiser Performance in south Florida.

      She's down again, and has been since late May. We were in the midst of tuning/data logging when the engine started rattling/knocking. Consensus points to a cam bearing issue, but builder has the car. He's going to pull it out and see what happened, then screw it all back together. I had planned on boosting the car, so went full forged in anticipation of that. Now it's back to waiting...again. To say the frustration level is high would be an understatement.

    You should try a couple of runs with no air filter. I haven't tried it yet. I have same engine with auto and typically do in lows to mid 12's. Don't know what I did different but had one run at 12.003 @114.??. Stock with 275 M/T rear tires and Hellcat air intake and filter.

      Yeah, it wasn't thumping very hard in that vid. With that tune revision, it never really settled into a low enough idle rpm to sound off. The other idle video was after a few hundred miles of driving + tune revision.

      Yep, other than the race bullets, exhaust was 100% factory. I have a pair of 1 7/8" long tubes and high flow cats for the car that are collecting dust in the corner..lol. If I keep the car after the latest round of aggravation/breakage, they will be going on after it gets back home.

      Yep, it was a stock car with only the Hellcat lower air box and inlet tube. I was running on the stock 245 Eagle F1 tires too. Lots of trial and error to finally get it all dialed in.

      @@pacomonje It took a lot of trial and error, even with my years of drag racing experience. These cars make so much torque down low, it's a fine line between hooking and spinning. Where are you located? Higher elevation has a big impact on performance.

      DA is a measure of air density, taking into consideration the humidity, air temperature, elevation. It stands for density altitude. The track at Gainesville is only roughly 100ft above sea level. But, factor in temperature + humidity, it seemed like I was at 1600ft above sea level. Positive DA hurts performance, negative DA helps, especially for naturally aspirated engines. I found that +/- 700 ft is worth a tenth and 1-1.5 mph on my old setup.

      Without doing things to alleviate the hot air intrusion, it's marginally better than the HC setup on the street. At the track, it shows more of a gain due to dumping heat faster + larger filter element. I'll really put them to the test when my car is back together. New engine got a cam bearing at 1400 miles, so she's back in the shop for teardown/repair.

    Very informative....thanks. Have a 2019 scatpack widebody and gonna put in the hellcat lower airbox with the headlight tube. Did you also swap out the stock filter for the hellcat filter as well? It’s a little pricey, but the numbers suggest roughly 50% more airflow.

      Your welcome and nice car. If I wasn't neck deep in mine with the cammed/forged build, I had thought about either a widebody or 1320. I ran the HC filter in daily use, but no filter at the track. It made a difference over the stock paper filter...flow rate is 2x the stock unit.

    Hey Lonnie, ran Friday at G'ville.....Ran 3 runs all 11.80's at 117. Best was 11.81 with a 1.88 60ft. Temp was 77 degrees and 2000 DA. All launches were 2/3rds throttle hits trying from idle, 1200 and 2000 rpm. 2000 was the best. Was going to try a full hit but got tired of ENDLESS track cleanups! Gonna wait till Fall to try again. Too dang hot now to run. Better weather and get the 60 ft sorted out and it will be a solid mid/low 11 sec runner.

      That's very good mph for the DA. With traction, that would put you in the mid 11's pretty easily, and cooler weather will definitely be low 11's for ya. Yeah, that's the bad thing about Gainesville on a T&T night...they don't get in a major hurry about doing cleanups. Sounds like you were loading up the convertor, then it would flash to 3K on launch...combined with the torque management reigning things in a touch, car would just hook n book. I got my wideband up and running, so now we can finally get serious about tuning the ol Orange Krate up a touch.

      @@lonnieaspinwall3862 Thanks Lonnie:) With the wideband....guessing will be out the window! Jay wanted me to install one...but I elected not to. Keep me posted on when you go to TNT and I will come see ya. I'm done racing for the summer.....but i will go and watch for sure. The Orange Beast is gonna be mean.....;)

      @@MrSolidman48 It definitely takes the guesswork out of the air/fuel tuning. It integrated right into the HP Tuners logging, so no watching and trying to remember what a/f was at xxxx rpm. Only thing I need to do is get HPT loaded on a smaller laptop or tablet so I can get a hard mount...fumbling around with my current one is a pita because it's so big. I also need to either get on a dyno or make a trip to Mexico for a 3rd gear, 4th gear full pull for some really good data. I'll let you know when a track outting is in the works for sure.

      @@MrSolidman48 Thinking about going to Gainesville on Friday for the Midnight Madness. I need to get a few easy shakedown runs on her, and data log them for tune revisions. Definitely won't be any hero runs, just some easy peasy street tire passes to see what she does.

    WOW! Been looking for exhaust mods on my scat pack and came across this video. I think I will be ordering these! Question: if I swap out my stock mufflers for these will I still have the active exhaust?

      Yes you will. The mini bullets only replace the factory mufflers, so no impact on the active exhaust system. Well, other than letting it growl/howl a bit louder..😂

      @@lonnieaspinwall3862 haha ok sweer good to know. I am going to order them. I just want it to be a bit louder at start up/idling and when I give it the beans. Expecting that it should be pretty tame if I am easy on the throttle, not looking to be too obnoxious.

      @@lyfeofmeej168 Yep, it has a nice growl at low to mid rpm, but screams at wot. It also puts a lot more bark in the cold starts. If you look through some of my other videos, there's a driving one with the go pro on the rear of the car. Then you can really hear how it sounds at different rpm.

      Thanks, and no track times yet. I finally got 1k miles on her, wide band going in next week, and then it's dyno tune time. After that, if it's not 1000 deg out when I'm off on a T&T night, track time. I'm hoping mid 11's as she sits and low 11's on a drag setup. Once it cools off again in the fall, might be able to sneak into the 10's.

      @@venomhemi3914 It's actually a mild cam. 220 int/232 exh duration with .597 int/.553 exh lift. It's similar to an off the shelf Comp 270, but with Dave Weber's specific grind.

      Thanks, and I was in Sport mode using the paddles. That way I was able to control the revs for better sound.

      Thanks Gene, and glad she's finally back. Nice kills, and congrats on getting into the 11's at last. I've heard the track is MUCH better with the new surface, so might be able to finally get my 11 sec pass at Gainesville. Hoping to get on a dyno/hard tune the car soon...finally have close to 1k miles on her new ♥. The little bit I've played with her...yeah, 285 rears are near worthless, even on the weak tune she's on now. Next up is getting the long tubes on, installing the wideband, and really pissing off the neighborhood.

      @@lonnieaspinwall3862 Those tires are a joke for that beast! I love those wheels.....those were my choice. They really pop on there for sure. But after pricing tires and wheels....I discovered 17 inchers are WAAAY cheaper so I went with the Drag Stars. G'ville track is unreal with the new concrete. The launch pad is just killer. The track workers say they have seen a TON of broken axles and rear ends there is so much grip! I got zero spin last month and will have to come out a lot harder now. I ran a 11.93@117 with a 1.88 60ft time. That was "babying" it out of the hole like I had to do on the old surface. The car is capable of mid 11's when I learn to drive it. I just did a cat delete last week so we will see if there is any more on the big end. It definitely feels like it. The weather is getting too warm for big #'s but we'll see. Your car ran like a beast before the major mods.....it's gonna be a handful now! Your neighbors will be too! lol

      @@MrSolidman48 Yeah, she's going to need a 305 or 315 summer tire just for some semblance of traction. I tried a half-assed launch last week, and she blew the tires off at 1/2 throttle...toggled 2nd, and tried pedaling it like I used to..nope, not happening..lol. She's going to need DRs for track days, unless I want to stay 1/2 throttle until 3rd gear. Congrats on the great pass...that's a solid mid 11 sec mph. Yeah, it's warming up, so no great ETs until fall. If I can make it into the mid 11's in warm weather, then 10's might be possible in the fall/winter..I hope.

      @@lonnieaspinwall3862 Yeah I had to go to a 315 Hoosier and finally.....TRACTION!! The Hoosier DR 2's are just awesome. I had ZERO luck with 2 different sizes of ET streets. I tried all the pressures and with burnout and without. I ran out of combo's to try and went to the Hoosiers. Should have done that in the FIRST place. Would have saved me a lot of $$$$. If the weather holds Friday evening....and it looks like it's going to....I'm gonna give her about 2/3rds off the line and mash it pretty quick. If it holds that...I will try a full hit. Might be in the upper 60's after the rain. If so.....I might put down a good #. I'll keep ya posted. Looking forward to seeing and hearing your orange beast:)
