The Clear Materia is White Materia from the Original game which cast Holy for when the Metor is summoned by Sephiroth.

I think climbing the wall of the crater will be the opening tutorial, that gives an opportunity to work in a snowboarding mini game inside the crater.

On the Jevona flashback, important to know that Ray Coffman had an anime of this planned and SE cease and desisted him. Maybe they have their own plan...?

What ever it is, it will have something to do with Cloud. The Prologue may be Zack again and the opening cut scene could be just about anything.

I think that makes sense to believe that after sephiroth lost his mind in the shinra mansion reading about his origins, he was just so broken that jenova start to take control, influencing sephiroth's actions and decision, maybe and most probably even without he knew that. jenova took control of planets and defeated many of cetras. sephiroth only is that powerful and can do all those incredible stuffs because of the way he was created using jenova's cells. I don't see a reason to jenova not be in control, at least influencing sephiroth's decisions making he do whatever she wants.

I don’t think it will happen but if they open with the Junon escape it could be a flash forward from the perspective of one group of the party. For example, Cait & Yuffie bust Tifa & Barrett out and they fight their way to the Highwind to escape. Cid, Vincent, & Red have already commandeered the ship once the rest of the party arrive. During this initial sequence the party will vaguely reference Cloud’s absence and that something bad happened to him. At the end of the chapter, as The Highwind flys off, someone mentions finding/saving Cloud. Screen fades and next chapter picks up around Icicle Inn. Then, when you play up to the events of the Junon escape for the second time, you get to play as Cid, Vincent, and Red as they take the Highwind.

Thanks for mentioning my comment. Do you really believe we'll have to wait 3 years? I think they'll release a DLC for Rebirth together with the PC-version release. I used to think a Vincent DLC between Rebirth and part 3 would have been perfect, but lately I'm in favor of a Cid DLC. Remember his lines in Nibelheim to Aerith of her being knee-high as a tonberry and revealing he knew Ifalna. Later in Aerith's trial we see her at that height and Ifalna escaping Shinra by train, what if he had a role to play in their escape from Shinra all those years ago (that could be the perfect ending of the DLC). As a side-kick you would have Cissnei since she's the one who introduced the party to Cid in Rebirth.

Great video, love the topic! it's my humble opinion but I don’t think they will dive that deep into Gaps, Cetra, Sephiroth or Zach at the very beginning (this time). I guess they’ll keep it action packed, mechanic focus and exposition of the situation where each main protagonist is right at that time. The first shot will show space and stars foreshadowing the meteor invocation since it will be preponderant to all game. Then the camera will dive into a violent thunder and wind hurricane until the Bronco break through the camera. There is a huge storm surrounding the north continent and we will touch some future Highwind flying mechanics. Then, the crew will have to parachute themselves (new skydiving minigame) down to the Gaea's Cliff location which have been relocated before the Icicle Inn this time around. For the first chapter tutorial, gameplay will be divided into 3 groups cause there is a lot to learn: 1- Cloud + Cid: Aerith memorial group focusing on Cloud dark knight new persona 2- Tifa + Barret + Red: Midgard group focusing on their new distrust about Cloud 3- Yuffie + Vincent + Cait: Dirge group exposing the different coming plot point, Sephiroth, Wutai and Shinra. After the first boss "Schizo", the team is rescue by Mr. Holzoff who give them snowboard to join the Icicle Inn: Expect a new sled white chocobo mechanic ! Chapter 2 open(world) to the northern snowy region and chapter 3 to the Whirlwind Maze highly extended and reunion... This is a HOMECOMING

I like the idea of starting out with Cloud snowboarding, I'm coming from an tutorial standpoint... Jumping fresh into the game you'll still need to be reminded how to move these characters, dodge (trees), fight off monsters later once the snow board segment is over. To me it makes sense. You mentioned it's sorta funny too .. the rest of the party might be put off by Cloud's cheery emotional state. I like that parallel going on.

part 3 really needs an action opening like og had so only seph mission flashback , or action cid & vincent snowbording boss fight or some one going on a mission like cloud did in og to stop jenova a long time ago. the opening needs to be more engaging than ogs opening and black myth opening.

It would be cool to have them wake up & searching the room rejogs their memories to remember what happened after the Tiny Bronco was shot down. Both Barrett & Tifa have different accounts of what happened, how they made it to Ice Icicle Inn, & each party has to spend their time search the town for the other party to reunite. That’d be fun.

For me the perfect beginning is Sephiroth killing aerith as seen from the party perspective, not Clouds. In raw 4k. Maybe they will go for that for the shock value, and also I don't see they leting such iconic scene out from the renake story

What they start with in part 3 might also have to do with gameplay. On another channel, I read the idea of a Genesis, Angeal, Sephiroth flashback scene to show the player how to do group synergy. I could see that being a possibility. What if we got to play as Reno, Rude, and Elena briefly? God forbid, what if they put us two years in the future and we played as Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo, but they deliver it in a way that somehow doesn't confirm AC continuity yet, but actually makes us think that things will be different? But if so, then how? lol

Another great video! This channel does not disappoint! In Part 2, the ending placed great focus on the Black and Clear materia. Furthermore, SE filled in more detail of the Gi and their involvement in the Black materia. So I had the idea that FF7R part 3 might open with the Gi explaining about the Black Materia in some cryptic way, but thought it would be too unlikely to dump the Gi in the opening sequence. But after seeing this vid and the theory of opening with Gust and Ilfana vid, I had another theory. It's Gust and Ilfana explaining the Black and White materai through one of their tapes! I think Part 3 might open in Zack's timeline again, but this time in Nibelheim, with reporter reporting on the Black Robes and other strange phenomenons (linking up with part of the ending sequence of Part 2), after the events of the Forgotten Capital. Possibly showing (or reporting) on strange stuffs that occurred at Nebelheim during the battle at Forgotten Capital. It'll then show Zack walking into Shinra mansion and we take control of Zack going into the basement. Zack fights a few quick battles (b-b-b-battle TUTORIAL!) and then searches the library and the room where he and Cloud was experimented on. The scene ends with Zack finding something and fades to black with him say, "No~way, it can't be..." It then cuts to Cloud and Co. finding one of Gust and Ilfana's video tapes. They play the tape and it's Gust and Ilfana having a heated discussion about the Black and White materia. Gust explains it from the "scientific" POV, while Ilfana arguing from the "Cetran" POV. During the discussion, the concept of the Clear materia also popped up, but was never fully explained beyond speculation from both Gust and Ilfana. (PS, This might lead to the activity of finding "the Gust Report" collectives).

"I can't see [Part Three] starting with no Cloud for that long." _Star Wars: A New Hope_ and _Return of the Jedi_ both start with C-3PO and R2-D2, who are side characters, and we don't see Luke Skywalker until a good 10-20 minutes in. _The Phantom Menace_ doesn't show us Anakin Skywalker until about a third of the way through the movie. It's not unusual for films to hold off showing us the protagonist, and VII is arguably the most "movie-like" of the games in the Final Fantasy series (not to mention the one most obviously influenced by Star Wars.)

Zack and aerith wont be in the opening. They've said their goodbye

I’m thinking Vincent could have an arcane ward of some description, they have to keep that mechanic in it (I hope) cid will play just like sonnen from intergrade (the dragon moves and limit breaks and the long staff weapon) I’m excited about the raid on midgar to kill hojo and jenova synthesis/absolute/complete and obviously the Knights of the Round. I hope Chadley includes Minerva as a super boss as she’s part of this world aswel.

My guess is a cryptic version of Aerith’s perspective as a semi-playable cut scene (to hint at the resolution while throwing out more red herrings to distract). This then pulls back into ‘Aerith’ watching the team arriving at Rocket Town to further muddy whether ‘Aerith’ is Aerith (there’s a fun phrase), a trauma response, JENOVA, or a mixture of the three. It’s at Rocket Town that they’d hear about whatever requires them to detour to Wutai. I think they have to kickstart the Wutai War subplot very early in the game to have it reach a conclusion by the end that integrates with everything else. Variants include the opening cutscene transitioning between Aerith and Zack (and maybe Lifestream Sephiroth) in a very dreamlike way to give a sense of what the lifestream is like (which would have the benefit of making the pullback to Cloud even more ambiguous as to his mental state). Now I think of it, this could include another commenter’s idea for connecting to Advent Children by starting from Sephiroth’s perspective. Maybe I just like dream-like stream of consciousness narratives a bit too much :). In a more grounded variant, they could simply start with Cloud spaced out partially remembering the end of Rebirth (and glitching) as they’re arriving in Rocket Town to finish repairs to the Tiny Bronco.

How about Vincent narrates/summarize the events of REBIRTH at the start of Part 3, and then we have a tutorial chapter where we control younger Vincent as a Turk? As for the conflict between Jenova and the Cetra, I'm sure we could see some of it when we revisit the Forgotten City.

Personally how I think it's going to start is by showing the Aerith death scene with Clouds missing lines (as the actor confirmed he did record them). The scene then transitions to present day Cloud who turns to look at and talk with Aerith (not the real one, and signs that Cloud is slowly losing it) as though she were next to him, it then pans over to Tifa who looks at Cloud with concern as she doesn't see Aerith there, also revealing that they are in the Tiny Bronco. Cid then interrupts with him warning everyone that due to the extreme blizzard, he'll have to make an emergency landing, the Bronco lands but the group are forced to go on foot due to the Bronco being unusable due to the cold. The group arrive at the Icicle Inn where they plan to recuperate and plan their next move only to see Shinra helicopters fly by causing them to realise they are heading North as well, the group use the snowboards to travel a bit quicker before making their way to the Northern Crater where along the way, Cloud begins to lose his mind even more and Tifa gets more concerned as time goes on. The events at the crater happen as normal with the group encountering Shinra, Cloud handing the Black Materia to the real Sephiroth, the weapons awakening and the meteor summoned The game then transitions to Tifa awakening at Junon with Barret revealing the Meteor and with it, the games title. The screen fades to black before revealing a frightening message: *7 DAYS UNTIL THE END*

I feel like Rebirth’s opening was trying to capture the energy of the bombing mission opening, which is a lot to live up to. So that leans towards flashy action rather than the sombre or touching. We’re 2 for 2 opening in midgar now as well, with clear parallels in shot construction. Can they break that with part 3? These have me leaning towards an opening with Zack in midgar, beagle world, where he was left at the end of rebirth. He will be a PoV character on Wutai launching an attack on midgar, one Glenneroth already promised on TV. We get bombastic action and amping up interest in new mysteries rather than trying to answer every question from Rebirth… there will be plenty of time for that after, maybe even the very next scene.

I definitely feel we could get, to fill the time before leaving on Snowboard, is a chapter in Gast's laboratory in icicle inn. Lots of plot relevant scenes and could tie Cid into that story by having him be part of the crew that flew Iflana back to Midgar when he was younger. Explaining how he had met her previously

Best idea I've heard for opening part 3 (and I can't remember who suggested it but it was in a TH-cam video) was that Part 3 opens with the scene where Cloud defeats Sephiroth in Advent Children (remade with modernized graphics), Sephiroth saying "I will never be a memory", followed by Sephiroth's perspective of traveling via the lifestream back through time to the start of FF7 Remake, confirming once and for all multiple timelines/sequel and everything within the first minute or so of game 3 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 - Would be the PERFECT opening for me!

I hope we get the 3 weapons diamond, ruby, & emerald in the next Final fantasy 7 reunite game. Next hope we get the fusion Swords and Knights of the round. Also, are we getting chocoo bird bleeding to get and white bird? Those are my question with the high winds airship too.

I reckon the clear materia will be refilled by Cloud and Tifa in the Lifestream and this new materia will be used to send the Gi tribe back to their own lifestream or maybe that’s for the sequel.

This is going to sound corny, but there's the possibility that the clear materia becomes white when filled with *loving* memories, in which case, Cloud will fill it as he comes to know who he is - something contingent on his love for the people in his life. This kind of parallels with us knowing Aerith got the white materia from her mother and it could have been filled with similar "knowledge"/emotions, memories, etc. The symbolism works. It's "clear" and void of these memories because he thinks he is right now as well. Plus if we think to AC and OTWTAS, it's basically Cloud's hatred (black materia parallel) that keeps Sephiroth perpetual. Similarly, the Gi created the black materia from malice/hatred. Although who knows, maybe it becomes the proto materia (which we see in the OG ending scene). And doesn't the black materia look like it has a smaller materia inside it? What's up with that?

Hmm it could be a base type or a vessel type. Maybe a version of Proto Materia like what Vincent has inside him to control Chaos

The church Zack walks into at the end of Intermission matches the OG/AC church to a T. It clearly has the wooden brown-colored cross that is nailed together and can be distinctly seen in both OG and AC. The churches in the Remake/Rebirth worlds seem to all have a stone-looking gray-colored cross. Could be a Zack that's been sent to OG or if not it's perhaps the OG Zack who's been revived due to some kind of ripple effect that the Whisper Harbinger is no longer there so the reason for Zack's death vanished. OG Aerith is not there because she left Midgar. She's either off with the party or already dead.

WARNING: Ridiculous idea/tangent: If corrupt lifestream is a thing (it's established, yeah?) can corrupt materia be made? Has the series described anything like that(maybe just the black materia)? As far as I know all materia is made from pure lifessteam, so the idea of corrupt materia raises a couple questions. 1: What is corrupt materia like and what does it do? 2: If corrupt lifestream can be harvested, can it be used to clean up the lifestream? 3: Would Shinra do that on purpose? It brings to mind the idea that Rufus actually wants to do good, so I wonder if this would be his way to turn Shinra into something good.

Has anyone come out with a theory about the clear materia being used as a means to trap Sephiroth to stop him coming back? I know it makes him sound like a Pokémon here but it could tie into the whole "I will never be a memory" line from AC, and the irony could be that's ultimately what he becomes. A distant memory trapped in a materia.
