🌱 Join me for a day of gardening bliss at my allotment plot! In this video, I dive deep into the world of organic gardening, tackling weeds, planting beans, courgettes, and transforming my compost bays into a vibrant raspberry sanctuary with bare root raspberry canes...I am nervous to get rid of the bays but they are just being used as a dumping ground at the moment! 🌿 Plus, I've got a special ...

This year has been my first year ever trying to grow my own vegetables on my new allotment - so glad the failures aren't just because I'm a beginner!! Nice to know we're all in the same boat
Informal is fine by me, actually prefer it ! Im interested in your grape vine and how you are going to support it. Love to see a close up of your vine and support. X
Good to see you back, try any format of video and see how it goes im sure just the phone/live will be fine, while i dont have an allotment i watch 2 or 3 youtubers across the uk , your my southern 1 so its good to see how things are going across england see if were having similar success or problems, i do a small amount of garden maintenance up here in the north east and this year attempted some veg growing at home in greenhouse for a second year, but its frustrating the weather as all have said is making things so stop /start but we keep trying...
Thank you so much for your honesty on burnout, its really refreshing to see such honesty on this platform and helps me remember that I'm not the only one struggling with (a) the blesséd weather and (b) the time to garden. Would love to see any type of content from you when you're ready - I really love your chatty, informative videos 😊
Always good to see your plot no matter what the format 🙌🏻⭐️
Thank You ☺️ 🥰✨️ xXx
I feel exactly the same, life has become very hectic and I haven’t posted for a few weeks. I love the little allotment and gardening community on You Tube and have had so much fun learning to edit my little diary posts. Chin up with the hideous weather. My allotment looks very bare considering the effort that has gone in and that is demotivating when it comes to uploading videos. It’s quite nice to know we are all feeling the same and not alone. Have a lovely summer with your kids. Informal videos are lovely to watch, just as much as highly polished ones ❤
Informal is good. Look after yourself.
Thank You Cliff ☺️
🥰
🥰
Great seeing you again ❤be safe
Thank You for the support ☺️
Hi Gemma! Although our summer weather here in Southeast Michigan has been really nice, which is pretty normal for us, the pressure from diseases, pests, critters, & birds has been higher than I've ever seen. In particular there is a brown moth that has come in a& done more damage to our brassicas & Swiss chard than the white butterfly could ever dream of doing. Dozens of green & brown striped caterpillars on each plant eating them to a bare skeleton almost overnight. I had BT spray on hand for the white butterfly larvae, but the moth came out of nowhere & took over before I knew what was happening. I am having to start over our collard greens & so more Swiss chard to try to compensate. Another thing that has been weird this year is low or no seed germination for things I normally have no problem growing in the summer, like sunflower, marigold & New Zealand Spinach.
Hi gem xx hot in Cyprus xx glad I'm home in this cool country xxx😎😎😎🥶🥶🥶
Yes I bet! 😎
Informal works for most of us Gem,just a short catch up is fine .🙂Glad your feeling better x
Hi Susie, Thank You for the support and for the words of encouragement ❤️
Oh Gemma I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly but glad that you're on the up. The good thing about the weather is - it can only get better right ....? Lovely to see you back and make sure you do what's right for you x
@JanesGrowingGarden Hi Jane 👋 Thank You I am feeling a lot better Thank You, I was really poorly at one point but am much better now. Thank You for your support Jane it means a lot 🥰 xx
We had hail yesterday!
That is absolutely insane! I have no idea what is going on this year! 🌪⚡️🌧❄️
It's been difficult to get going with so much rain. Hopefully, the rest of summer will be a little better.
@ebenezercottagegarden I really hope so, it's hard not to feel defeated!
Whatever fits with your lifestyle. I would absolutely watch regardless of the format. Take care of yourself ❤
Hi Lynette, Thank You for your support and encouraging words 🥰 I hope you're having a great week!
The weather here in Nova Scotia has been crazy as well. This past weekend we had such heavy rains that roads were wiped out. Enjoy what ever you do manage to get and don’t stress yourself. Sounds like you just need to take some time for yourself and recalibrate and get your balance. We are just fine with whatever you want to do. Just seeing you from time to time is awesome. ❤
Hi Wanda 👋 Thank You for the encouragement and for supporting me and my channel 🥰 let's hope we get some signs of summer soon ✨️ xx
Just do what’s right for you
Thank You for the support Tony 🙏 🥰
It's total pants this year!! The Hungry Gap has turned in to the Bloody Starving Year! Still, chin up 😂
Hi Karen 👋 I love that analogy 'The Starving Year' 😅🤣 Thank You for your support and I hope you're having a great week 😊
Hi Gem! Saw you on Broke Farmer last year. Here in the US we're having challenges with overwhelming heat. Burns up everything!
Hello ☺️ Thank You for the support, it really has been a challenging season for so many hasn't it 😬 I hope you're having a great week!
This year has been awful and sometimes you do just need to take a break. I think shorts and lives are a great thing as this time of year we don’t have a lot of time to sit and view a video as much. Good to see you have a catch up
Hi Emma, Thank You for your support and encouraging words ❤️ yes it's such a busy time isn't it and I really struggle, something had to give for a while to keep me from burning out. Thank You Emma 🥰
@@GemInTheGarden It’s a hard time for all of us so don’t beat yourself up. Just come back when you are ready. ❤️
@GardenofEmma Thank You Emma, it's nice having the support of friends on TH-cam like yourself 🥰
Totally agree, this year has been a write off. Peas, broad beans are rubbish. Strawberries have been taken by a mouse or something. I am getting lettuce, but even my squash, courgettes and pumpkins are struggling. It's a real disappointment. Lovely to see you again though and yes your family comes first and Summer is a busy time when the children are home x
It is good to see you. Your life is so busy. Would be glad to just see you occasionally on your phone. Please don't burn yourself out and completely disappear. You are a bright spot on Utube.
Hi Carol, Thank You so much for your encouraging kind words and for your ongoing support ❤️
Good to see you back I was wondering 🤔. It is way too hot here the total opposite to yours. I am constantly watering and moving things to shade them. Your red crimson broad beans are doing well though 👍👍. I didn’t know it was a live but good to catch up. Taking the time to assess and make necessary changes is all part of gardening. Have a super week do what is right for you and things will get better, Ali 🌞🥵🫠36c🇨🇦
Hey Ali ☺️ Oh no its challenging when it's too hot here, can't imagine what it's like with you! Glad to hear the broad beans are doing well 👍 Thank You for the support Ali, as always, you've been with me since day 1 ❤️🥰
@@GemInTheGarden 🥰🥰🥰
Gemma, I know exactly how you feel. My chilli plants are tiny. Basil and other herbs…awful. Very frustrating. I am on my second lot of tomato plants…flowers only so far, just keeping fingers crossed we get warmer weather. Onions seem to be doing ok, but taken weeks to get this far. I have put my red cabbage seedlings in over weekend and covered them already…again fingers crossed they survive. Take every day as it comes, that is also what I am doing. Any videos you do make my day…so whatever you have time for 😊 have a great Summer ❤
Just maybe do a weekly walkabout showing how things are growing (or not 🙄) and take time off you are entitled to a few weeks annual leave even from TH-cam 😆😎🌿🍅🥬🫛🌶️🌻🥒🧄🍓 it's been the year of the roses and shasta daisies for me they're epic this year 🌹🌼
Hi Helena 👋 Thank You for the support and lind words, it really means a lot 🥰 that's great you have had success 🙌 xXx
It’s so disheartening. I’ve had chillies and tomatoes inside but nothing on the plants outside.
Yes its really disheartening, such a shame as we put in so much hard work and not really got a lot back so far 😢 Let's hope it gets better, Thank You for watching a supporting 🙏
You need to do what’s best for you, I know what you mean by taking it back to basics always fantastic to see how its going down the allotment xxx
Thank You for the encouragement and support 🙏 I hope you're having a great week 💗

We're all in the same boat Gem. Never known a year like it. Slugs and pigeons have had a blast at my allotment. Like you say, things aren't growing the same. We're all disillusioned and I've not succession sowed like I usually would because I'm like 'what's the point'. Finally getting some lettuce and my first cucumber. I'm going to concentrate on harvesting what I can and getting prepped for hopefully a better 2025! My second earlies aren't even ready yet! 🤣 Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Faith 👋 exactly, there hasn't been a year like this has there?! It's really harsh to stay motivated 😕 Thank You for supporting me and my channel and like you say, here's to 2025! 😎🥰 xx
What a lovely man, greats tips thanks for sharing!
Thank You for watching! 😀

😍
When Gem says "Vince" take a drink.. I'm half cut at the 6 min mark.
😅😅🤣🤣
Well done Gem….tons done there! 💪🏼😁 Foxgloves are gorgeous! 🤩💚💪🏼🌱 Will x
Hey Will! Thank You ☺️ Hope you're having a great week! 🥰
The Allotment next to mine is unattended but there is a lovely raspberry bush in it. It would have been rude not to have sampled a few lol
Oh yes definitely would be rude not to!
Gem everything looks somtssty xxx🐼🐼🐼
Thanks mum
Xx
I’ve just discovered your channel and have binged watched all of your previous videos. I live in the states. When I have green tomatoes that fall off, we fry them and eat them green. Fried green tomatoes are amazing.
Hello and welcome to my channel! Thank You for watching 😊 I have never tried fried freen tomatoes but have seen the movie 👍 I will definitely try that this year, Thank You! Have a fab week! ☺️
Hey Gemma, love the video! Just a small nitpicky thing for the flag in the thumbnail- as much as I wish we (Australia) could take credit for that lovely garden, it's in New Zealand - which has a very similar looking flag, but should have 4 red stars not the 5 white ones of the Australian flag.
Hello ☺️ Oh wow Thank You for letting me know I had no idea, I will take a look tonight and get it changed, Thank You! Hope you're having a fabulous week 😘
The sun is shining lovely xx🐰🐰🐰
Long may it last 💓
Oh yes the will grow and give abundance on fruit
That's the plan 👌
Hi, just found your YT channel, working my way from EP1. Loving the tips etc. I am looking to make the cages. I am not good at DIY but think i could maybe manage these, but I am so confused about what size pipe, 90 degree elbow and T fitting I would need. Could you let me know the right sizes I would need to make them and a decent supplier ? - Thanks Paul
Hello! Apologies for the late reply, there have been a few issues with comments showing on my notifications and I'm just seeing some now! I will get all of the info tonight and I will comment again with the sizes etc. Thanks!
They will grow lovely I'm sure xx🌎🌎
I hope so!
Omg, ur baby looks just like my Alexei! My Alexei and Noah are my world! I get so side tracked when I'm gardening and I see an animal, especially a cat, lol!
Oh really 🐈 there are a few in our neighbourhood that look the same too it's so lovely to see! I am a real car lady, love them!
Brilliant job, great video 👏🏻
Thank You! ☺️
❤
💓
❤ looks fabulous 👏🏻
Thank You!
Oops! Nearly got ya! 😮 I'm sure you'd have grown fabulous in there should you have gotten stuck 🌼🌸😆
Hee hee Rach that made me lol xx
I can't help with your Q of the day, but mine are also being eaten - and they're in their first year. Sometimes I go and see a couple and then the next time they're gone 💔 I really want to see those fluffy fronds!!
Rust is a right pain isn't it. We have some on our garlic. I was looking into rust on garlic and your video popped up Gem. Hope you're having a nice weekend ❤ x
Hey Linda ☺️ I still used all of the garlic that had rust I just used it first and it was fine, I just didn't keep anything to re plant. I had a good harvest a few days ago from the polytunnel, I'm having a good one hope you are too Linda xx
