So nice to see you back at the plot. You’ve done a great job with your greens there - I wish I was that organised! I try to grow from seed but if there are any gaps - and there usually are - it’s a quick trip to the garden centre.
@GemInTheGarden that's great news Gemma. Nice weekend thank you. Hope you had a good one too. Is it warmer here must seem like summer after Iceland? 🤭 Have a great week and happy planting ❤️ x
It’s always a mixture for me! If I am organised enough I go with seed but if I have gaps or have been low on time, garden centre plugs are always a great option! Once they are in the garden they all need the same nurturing regardless of where they started out 💚🪴
Ouch 😮 that blister! 😣 Your plot is looking very organised 👏🏻 I love visiting different garden centres, I’m putting Chessington garden centre on my list 😊
I do a bit of both! I tend to grow my own Spring Summer but Autumn and winter I usually buy plugs. Just about to plant some overwintering cabbages in my poly tunnel ❤️ try using a hori hori instead of a trowel - much easier and no blisters. I find it the most used and useful tool I’ve got x
Hi Lynne 👋 ohhh a Hori Hori, I think I'm going to try one you know! Yes same as me, spring/summer I do myself but winter time I struggle with my seedlings and end up buying 😀 Hope you've had a great weekend 😀
@GemInTheGarden thank you. Yes, I got out and did a bit of home garden today and the allotment yesterday. Your polytunnel looks great set up for winter.
Couple of stepping stones Gemma will help you not trip over things. I would love to get hold of some cauli and broccoli plugs aka starter plants. But the garden centre has no more 😢😢. I always think especially in winter plugs are fab and support our local growers. Great update Gem hope the hand heals, Ali ☔️☔️☔️🇨🇦
Hey Ali ☺️ yes I think I will add stepping stones that's a great idea ☺️ I like supporting local growers, there's a man who lives near my cousin that sells for charity and I try and buy from him when I can. Hope you've had a great weekend 😀
Well done on planting your winter veggies your soil must be rely hard sorry about your blister ouch 😩 I like to grow mine from seeds didn’t really get much going for winter this year will try better next year
Hi Julie, I can't believe I got such a bad blister but it's all healed and ok now ☺️ there's always next year isn't there Julie, have a great weekend 🥰
Question of the day: Well here in the Chicagoland area that I live in, there are no fall planting of veg sold. There used to be a couple nurseries that did, but they didn't;t sell enough to make it profitable. So I have to seed start myself as there are no other options. Also, really we need to put veg in the ground wayyyyyyy earlier here for a fall harvest. Lucky you can grow all winter long.
The purple broccoli is looking great. I try to start everything from seed but succumbed to a punnet of broccoli the other day. Our plant place has very limited choice of veges and one of the main reasons I have a vege garden is to get variety.
A lot of garden centres near us don't have a great selection, it's only this one that does, I'm surprised they don't do more to be honest, there must be a demand. The best thing about growing your own veg is the variety isn't it 😊
I like to seed my own veges if possible, because there is much more of a choice with seeds, and i can try growing varieties that are a bit more unusual. That said, I do tend to buy my flowers already seeded in plugs as small plants because I don't seem to have much luck seeding flowers for some reason! I hope your blister is healing nicely. Everything is looking amazing.
My blister is much better Thank You, I will be planting the rest of my garlic tomorrow now I can👍 yes I agree much more variety with seeds isn't there. I hope you have had a fabulous weekend ☺️
I try to start them off myself but my daughter bought me some sprout plants for mothers day as i have trouble growing them I think its a case of if you like it but can't grow it yourself then buy it. Have a great weekendxx
Here in the US, we call plugs “starts” or “starter plants”. Sadly, stores put starts out in very early spring and once they are sold out or looking too dreadful to sell they are gone. No stores here in Ohio sell starts in the summer or fall. I don’t know if anyone near me who has a fall or winter garden.
I don’t eat a lot of veg as a single pension. So I usually buy plugs or young plants.most of my seed sowing is for my cut flower beds 🌺🌸
Plug plants are great aren't they ☺️
All planted up now gem! Looks fab! Here's to a successful spring of growing 🌱😊💛
It will be spring before we know it ☺️🌷

Hi Robin 👋 that's a shame you don't get many options for plug plants but understandable if there's no profit. Hope you've had a great weekend 😀
Gem, I tend to do a bit of both, whenever I plant out home grown from seed the Slugs and snails are on it like a rash.🍽 Thanks for sharing. bfn 🐞🌻🌱
Yes the slugs always like to come and see what's on offer when we plant out don't they 😬 Have a fabulous week Jane 😀 x

Veg looking good 👍 I try and would like to start all from seeds, but sometimes you do have to buy and grow on.
Yes I totally agree, in summer I do most myself but winter I struggle. Hope you've had a great weekend 😀
