Not really doing my garden this year. Birds have had the black currents, raspberries and cherries. Have a few pots of potatoes with garlic but thats about it.

This was what I found confusing as there was a mix of white and red flowers 😆🤔 I've never grown them before so I wasn't sure if they were supposed to or if it was something else 😅 I didn't sow any runner beans (or so I thought😆) so I was wondering what I was going to get....Thanks Kerrie 😄😄😄

Slugs have decimated my plot and pigeons have joined in! Then lo and behold if I didn't find a squirrel on my strawberries! I'd love to have a camera on the plot to see what the wildlife get up to at night down there. I think they're having raves!
Gem I'm totally done with the weather it is depressing, every day is damp and dreary and the slugs and snails are taking advantage of the situation. Please let it stop, I'm on permanent slug watch. Thanks for sharing 🐞🌻🌱
I've lost quite a few crops so far. The badgers had all of my gooseberries the pigeons had my kale,a fox or badger dug up my spring onions spinach and radish. Thr birds have eaten my cherries and blue berries. As for the slugs and snails, they've had a go at everything. I think the only thing that has been untouched is my onions. I'm not giving up although next year I will cage as much as I can. Hope you manage to get a good harvest this year Gemma 😊
Good on you for having such a positive attitude. I couldn’t believe the size of that slug. Have you ever tried putting small tins with a bit of beer in them. Apparently it attracts the slugs, they fall in, get drunk and die🤷♀️🤣🤣. You keep up your good work and enjoy what you get. ❤
Good to see you and Silent Vince back enjoying the allotment. WOW blueberries 🫐 are huge. 😂😂 I ate most of my raspberries and nicely shard my strawberries 🍓 with Gerald. Sadly I cooked a lot of my bush beans well Mother Nature did, it was just too hot for them. I’m growing a few of my corguettes in pots up on a table. Leaf miner 😢😢 it’s even in my aqualigia. The worst disaster in our garden has been the birds eating all the fruit! I don’t yet have enough netting for covering all the fruit so they eat most of the grapes, and probably half of the peaches and figs, but we do still have a wee bit for the humans that were kindly left behind!
Lovely video Gemma and yes you're absolutely right, when you said that failures and successes vary from year to year. We haven't had any sun whatsoever here in ROI and some days are so wet they're reminiscent of November day!
Well, I have SLUGS, and I see their slimy trails. I heard there are two types of SLUGS one good and the bad.Of course, I would have the bad ones. I know something is eating my okra leaves and leaving me stems( Thank God i planted tons of okra ).😢 I put D.E, so we shall see if it's slugs or another pest.I usually don't plant in the ground because of this.Yet I took a chance this time. I won't do it again. I will just do my sectional grow bags and regular grow bags.Have a great day.❤ Nice to see you both.
Have you ever tried lightly crushed egg shells? We had a problem with slugs eating our hostas and put a ring of crushed egg shells around each plant. The slugs do not like crawling over the sharp edges of the shells and left the plants alone!

I found your channel when I started mine a few weeks ago. I have slowly been working through all the videos and really enjoyed it. It has been different from a lot of the ones I have seen where they fill their beds with soil first and you just put down a layer of cardboard and a little layer of compost and stuff just grows. Makes me feel good because my beds sure aren't perfect.

To keep the birds from eating your ripe strawberries, gather up some small rocks the size of strawberries and paint them red. Scatter them about your plants before your berries ripen. The birds will learn that the red objects aren't edible and will leave your ripe berries alone.
I bought 2 apple 🍎🍎 and a pear 🍐 patio trees - and 3 blueberry 🫐🫐🫐 bushes late last year had a few blueberries earlier but I think the birds had them 🥴🙄 hopefully we'll have some proper fruit next year fingers crossed 🌺 my main pest is my grandson Noah eating all my strawberries 🍓🥴🙄💙

It's a really hard year. I'm so disheartened but keep trying. I did chuckle at you keep replanting stuff. The slugs have an absolute all you can eat buffet at your plot this year. I've even struggled to get some stuff to germinate. There's always next year.
It's been so challenging, I have a few more pumpkins to plant, I'm just going to put them out this week and if they get eaten they get eaten, what more can I do I can't protect them in my greenhouse forever 😬 exactly there is always next year isn't there. Take care 🙂
Hey Gemma Glad to hear you are feeling better and you got to have a break away from YT and the plot for a bit. It really has been a testing season for sure with the weather and pests. Just planted our second round of cucumber and the two OG ones that germinated in spring (3 went out) only two have survived and still yet to get a cucumber. This second lot are Polish small pickling ones and are meant to be quick to grow. I just sowed and got two, so fingers crossed we may both get any this season! I still have some spare horse radish, etc but our chilli plant died when i up potted it :o( Never happened to me before i keep them indoors. Even had 3 for 3 years before they died too, so relying on their seeds now. I have some spare Thai Dragon seeds if you want them? We had a blueberry plant for a while one year but never got past spring! lol Is it just the one you have? Our bird poop offering of a thornless raspberry pot did well this year. Not much to be said about the one we bought though. We have some black berries growing over our fence this year. Think i am going to take a cutting of it after we have had the berries and see if i can propagate it! I am terrible! lol If it's a plant i will try and propagate it! 🤣 Got some Jade plant cuttings rooting up after a trim. For some reason i thought the yellow flower plant was a sedum and it might be from the same family but i think it is more like a yellow Kalanchoe. I have a white one downstairs that i got this year so waiting for it to get bigger for cuttings. Dug up the ginger today in the front garden as they had all been eaten. TBH, i should have just left them in a window box. Going to plant the spare money maker and gardener's delight but still have the Tonys with some fruits on. The soil was looking really nice out there as we put down cardboard, new compost and leaf mulch and then hubby dumped a load of extra wet clay soil from levelling off the lawn and now there are cow pat looking clumps there! lol Still haven't jet washed the car or the front driveway yet but we did the back patio and made a tiny border on the front with broken bits of slabs. I just haven't been in the mood for it even when the weather was okayish. I do need to do it though at some point (maybe school holidays), when things are a bit calmer from the end of school year stuff. At this rate though the car windows are making their own window boxes of growth! lol We also have a california wonder pepper spare too. It's small though as i didn't get around to up potting as i ran out of soil. Our garlic is a bit pants this year but we have some. Your garlic looks great! S&S are now swear words in our house now but they are going to have a feast this autumn and winter as i just bought a load of cabbage seeds! lol (I'm a glutton for punishment!) 🤣 Going to harvest our potatoes in a couple of weeks. They were small desirees saved from last year and some small maris pipers. Not expecting much and i think they might be small as the leaves have been yellow for a few months now. I just use supermarket ones as i never get much luck from actual seed potatoes. We also have bindweed growing in one of our asparagus crowns, so i am going to wait until winter to dig it up and remove the bind weed roots. The mares/horsetail is also loving the new sandpit bed area but i think it is just a case of pulling it out as that grows really deep. Anyway, you have my email if you want a chat or meet up. Despite my essays, i am good listener! lol I like this community as i feel it is a great way to share stuff and it is not just down to the content creator to share everything. I often feel there is a pressure to "perform" but in reality, we are all human at the end of the day and it is ok not to be ok and to be able to say that. It doesn't mean that you have failed or are failing or struggling. Life just happens. That is what communities are for. I am rambling now but take care Gemma! xx

Hello ☺️ Thank You for watching, I have planted strawberries in my asparagus bed as they are shallow rooted and they don't fight the asparagus for nutrients, I had marigolds in with them last year and also a marrow so in my experience you can as long as they don't disturb the asparagus roots or compete with them 👌 let me know what you decide! ☺️
Hi Gem, it's my 1st year at the allotment and it's been a bit disheartening :( I grow bit at home and when I think they're big enough, I take them to the allotment but ev-ry-thing gets eaten :(
I know exactly how you feel as I've been doing the same as you, it is very disheartening 😢 this is my 3rd year on the allotment and it's the worst I've had, everyone I speak to says the same so at least we know it's nothing we are doing and everyone is the same, have a fabulous weekend ❤️

My pain this year is Japanese beetles. They are everything! My fruit trees and grape vines are being stripped of every leaf. The worst I have seen. 😢

Question of the day: Bunnies are my destructive pest. But squash vine borer, squash bugs and cute beetles could make an appearance.

Hello ☺️ Thank You for watching, I have planted strawberries in my asparagus bed as they are shallow rooted and they don't fight the asparagus for nutrients, I had marigolds in with them last year and also a marrow so in my experience you can as long as they don't disturb the asparagus roots or compete with them 👌 let me know what you decide! ☺️
Birds not had any fruit from my plot 3 gooseberry 2 tayberry 12 currant 100 strawberry plants all the jostaberrys last year was nowhere near this bad

Hi Gem, it's my 1st year at the allotment and it's been a bit disheartening :( I grow bit at home and when I think they're big enough, I take them to the allotment but ev-ry-thing gets eaten :(
I know exactly how you feel as I've been doing the same as you, it is very disheartening 😢 this is my 3rd year on the allotment and it's the worst I've had, everyone I speak to says the same so at least we know it's nothing we are doing and everyone is the same, have a fabulous weekend ❤️
