So so true, WEEDS grrrrrrr! Yes Gemma doing the weeding on a routine will make them easier to remove. After a rain or a good water will soften the soil for pulling. I do love how you are talking about just doing it now and receive the benefit tomorrow all the while with a nice smile. I am glad you are able to be happy with what you did today! So often so many folks will want to go to the garden or allotment plot thinking I will be doing A,B,C and D today. Now we know there will always be one new problem which may prevent one other task from happening. Also we budget say 3-4 hours to do the tasks. But we maybe don't realize it requires 6 hours to do all we thought we could do. The most important thing to do is acknowledge all you did get accomplished and make sure it has a higher value than what you did not do. Never let yourself feel it was a failure just move it to the next to do list. At the end of the day take pride in all you did and make sure you will feel like coming back the next time. Great video today! Cya next thyme, Steven
Great job Gemma 👍🏻👍🏻. And I love your attitude about what you will get to harvest. We got our first and maybe only cucumber this season and like you I don’t think we will have any courgettes 🤷♀️. At least our rain and flooding has stopped for now and hopefully all the wineries here will get a good crop. Keep up the great work.
Iv learned 2 live with weeds at a certain level at this time of the year if it looks like it's hampering my crops I remove them hoe paths every mth or so this weather is bl@#ht weather my maris pipers have a small amount I'm going up shortly to remove the tops to try and preserve the cara and sarpo I'm also growing good luck for the rest of the season
Lots of hard work there Gemma! Give it a few years and you will get on top of that bind weed! Giving your plot a copper hug to keep the buggers off. The humidity and the tree/ bush line doesn't help, so don't blame yourself. Are you allowed to cut any of that back? Take Care!
The bind weed is just relentless, it's definitely getting better the more we pull it so that's a good thing 😀 I'm not sure, that's a good point though, I think I will ask about that! Thank You!
Hi Gemma, weeding is one of my favourite jobs! I put the world to rights when weeding lol and sort all my problems out. Then I sit back and look at my progress. Plenty of weeds to clear constantly this year too! My most hated job was removing caterpillars from the brassicas but this year I have everything netted to within an inch of its life lol, so those butterflies (of which there doesn't seem to be much of this year) can lay their eggs on the nasturtiums I planted for them instead and we have lots of nettles around too.
I'm not keen on weeding but you do get an immediate effect when you get them out which is quite satisfying. Your plot is looking great. Well done! Sometimes if you get some stuff planted and growing that's better than planting loads that don't thrive.
I went out earlier today to plant out some Alyssum I've been growing in propagators. I thought I'd just pull a few weeds to make room for them and ended up clearing a couple of gardens beds. Wet soil plus no dig gardening certainly makes it all easier as they do indeed generally just pull straight out.
Great to watch Gem I don't mind a bit of weeding now and again especially if they come up with ease roots and all. I like the instant results. Not that keen on pinching out tomatoes as I inevitably miss some and after a couple of days you cant see where I've been. Thanks for sharing.🐞🌻🌱
Hi Jane, well my mini polytunnel is just like a jungle where I haven't pinched out, really need to tackle that in the next few days! Hope you're having a great week Jane ☺️
Bizarrely I like weeding, I think I feel a sense of achievement once it’s done & you see such a difference. I hate construction, especially netting, I get all tangled in it….also sieving compost …boring!! My hubby bought me a rotary soil sifter so I’m hoping that saves some time. My courgettes are abysmal this year. I want to achieve a pond next year 🎉
I,don’t have weeds per se I have seedlings for all the birch trees🤬 they are from all that tree snow in early spring. But a quick weed hoe and we’re good to go. Great job Gem and looks a million times better 👍👍, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
I’ve just planted more foxgloves for next year …doing a no dig ( woodchip ) keeps the weeds away…must admit this year I haven’t covered my beds so a few popping up ..but a quick movement of my foot and their gone….lol…
Looking good Gemma. I think most people dislike weeding but it is so satisfying and I promise myself to keep up to it but never do! Do you compost your bindweed or destroy it separately? I’ve got loads of the stuff. Deb
What's your least favourite job in the garden?
I hate pricking out. Not the physical act of it, more the responsibility of deciding which plants stay and which are culled. It weighs heavy on me 😂

Hi Steven, I agree with everything you have said, it's all about taking our time and doing what we can and enjoying the process 😀

We have to look for the positives don't we Wanda, especially in a challenging season lime we are having 😊
My least favourite jobs are trimming the hedges, and the trees, and building a glasshouse which didn’t have good instructions.
Oh building without instructions must have been so difficult! Hope you're having a great weekend!
@@GemInTheGardenyes thankyou! The best part of the weekend was getting up and starting a new garden patch for flowers!
It's very satisfying when the weeds pull up with ease!
Isn't it great when that happens!

Yes im the same I just do what is necessary as I can't achieve weed free in the summer! Hope you're having a great week!

Weeding is very therapeutic I agree! Oh yes, caterpillars are no fun! Hope you're having a fab week! X
Looks so great Gemma! I’ve recently found joy in weeding, I think it’s the simplicity and difference it makes 😅
Oh yes definitely! It's satisfying afterwards, thank you Roisin! 😃

That's very true 😄 I have been weeding again today in the polytunnel as its been pouring with rain here all day! Hope you're having a great week!
@GemInTheGarden thanks, I weeded my polytunnel yesterday too, was satisfying but tiring. Loads of chillies to harvest!
Well done gem xx good wedding xx🕸️🕸️🕸️🕸️🕸️
Thank You x
My least favourite is polytunnel jobs in the summer..its like gas mark 9!!! Great update gemma..Danny 🌱
Yes we should call it sauna jobs! 😅🤩

Hey Ali, Thank You, been weeding again today.....never ending! 😊🤩😘

You can't have enough in my opinion 😅

I try my best to separate it 😀
I’m just collecting my last of my raspberries all ready for my summer wine for next year… drinking last years at the moment….
Wow that sounds fabulous!
@@GemInTheGarden it is .. summer in a drink
Least favourite job is putting everything away once I’ve finished a task 😂
Same! Ha ha worst part of any job 🤣😅
I don’t mind weeding but those recurring weeds are a bit soul destroying 😭😭😭
Plot is looking lovely. Fingers crossed the slugs leave the pumpkin alone
Yes you weed them, turn around and they are back again! Thank You Claire, so far so good 🤞
It's been such a hard year!
Very!
That bind weed behind you at the beginning of the video gives me anxiety.
Hee hee I know right!
