The fact that trainees were struggling to breath and collapsing and they still ignored it is sickening. As a K-pop fan I can say that their comments were so wrong. Any real fan would want their idols to be taken care of, not mistreated. Seeing the boys crying broke me and I hope they’re all ok because that challenge was so dangerous. I liked SAO back then, it was one of my first animes and I was way younger so I didn't really notice everything that was wrong with it. Honestly, I remember watching lots of animes which had tons of fanservices when I was 13 and not being bothered by it because I didn't really understand. I don't remember actually caring for Kirito, but Asuna was just really cool for me. Now that I'm older and saw way more animes or just fiction in general, when I think back on it I'm mostly just sad about the lost potential. Also harem with 15 years old is making me unconfortable now that I'm in my twenties ngl (especially when there is the little sister trope). Just imagine you take the exact same context, but you focus on character growth, the world building and leveling instead of romance and harem. That could have been something epic.

i never really had the drive to explore crossover AUs until this series. then i decided that alexander anderson from hellsing ultimate was yui's real dad and is very pissed off to discover that his daughter, who he'd been told had died with her mother in childbirth, was actually stolen. and maybe he'd ask a favour of his best frenemy alucard (and the police girl) to track her down... also WRT diabolik lovers as a comedy, even people in the industry agreed. IIRC a fairly famous voice actor in japan (kyon from haruhi suzumiya fame) commented on watching just to see how bad it was.

HYBE set the perfect stage for MHJ to play her game and pull the girls and their families on closer. Because ultimately, having a history of her support or not, they could’ve rejected both HYBE and MHJ if they were truly woke. But nope, they feel inextricably tied to her, that their identity lies with her, and they’ve been talking and meeting with her all throughout this. It’s very sad to watch them feel like they have no identity outside MHJ. It just screams that they’ve been groomed. So ultimately that’s the reason imo. Because MHJ’s support wasn’t just support. It was fixation, manipulation, and grooming.

I agree with your point about favoritism and pushing the more popular member since it is a business and I tend to bias the most popular member in a group. but at the same time it’s sort of a catch 22. because of course a company will want to promote the most popular member for more attention, views, and money but at the same time this extra promo causes their popularity to continue to increase while the less popular members remain stagnant because of the lack of promo. if less popular members got more opportunities they may not continue to be as unpopular.

The concept of SAO being set in a game used to be the core of the series at first before being kicked onto the curb to be made into the background of the series. Sometimes, I even forget that they are actually in a game instead of being isekai'd later. That's how far the game world aspect is held back, even the game systems aren't that good. I question whether Reki actually has played any games or just did the most minimal research before & between the 1st volume in 2001/2002 to the anime release in 2012.

2:12 the part about leeseo isn't entirely true...are we forgetting the scandal they had for putting her in a skirt that was way too short? or when Love Dive released and people criticized the dance break for being suggestive? I had reconstructive jaw surgery when I was 17. it wasn't for cosmetic reasons, but because I had a massive underbite. to put it simply, I looked like I was a long lost Habsburg princess. they broke my top and lower jaw, and realigned them so it looked more symmetrical. I asked my surgeon to shave off a tiny bit from my chin. when I went back to school, no one recognized me. I didn't realize just how different I looked.
