Sao is so underappreciated, the anime is a okay adaptation imo but the light novels are genuinely incredible. Some takes here are valid but some aren't, one huge criticism i always had for sao was that they're werent too many male durotagonist aside from eugeo and eiji which were introduced way later into the story and as for the harem take its completely valid as even in the sao games they allow kirito to essentially sleep with any character which i so despise as its character assasination at its finest because kirito would never. The romance between kirito and asuna is very heartfelt in the novels and even anime as the story continues. Now to talk about kirito being considered a self insert is in my opinion not true. The world of sao and it's people is already set up well for the story to play its cards. Kirito being a beta tester further added more depth to his choices and you even see this in episode 1 with klein as we see them bond and kirito come out of his shell a little being more open, then when kirito proposed the idea of them two clearing the next town of all the loot showing his more selfish side with a bit of compassion since klein was his first "friend" but the moment klein refused because he had to go look for his buds kiritos demeanor changed back to his more cold sarcastic tone because he felt guilty for thinking the way he did realizing how disconnected and alone he feels. Just because he was a beta tester and is essentially a pro when it came down to anything else he was always a loser. Thats what makes sao a strong story sometimes because you have to apply game logic to it aswell which by the way is explicitly SHOWN AND TOLD to us that in the wolrd of aincrad you can be who you never could be in the real world. Thats why player killers exist, laughing coffin, and even the players themselves to an extent. Kayabas vision was for this world to be taken as seriously as the real world where you could become who you wanted to be, not bound by the thin line of virtual reality and reality itself. Thats what justifys the cringe scene of kirito declaring himself as a "beater" as in this world he chose to become this persona to not only self project what he always wanted to be but to also selflessly protect all other beta testers as he will be the main target of any humiliation. There is so so much more i could say about his characterization but ill leave that for anyone who asks. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. 😊

it's also a big part of what got me into anime when i was much younger, doesn't mean i can't critique it because i see the problems with it now- it shows growth :)
I liked SAO back then, it was one of my first animes and I was way younger so I didn't really notice everything that was wrong with it. Honestly, I remember watching lots of animes which had tons of fanservices when I was 13 and not being bothered by it because I didn't really understand. I don't remember actually caring for Kirito, but Asuna was just really cool for me. Now that I'm older and saw way more animes or just fiction in general, when I think back on it I'm mostly just sad about the lost potential. Also harem with 15 years old is making me unconfortable now that I'm in my twenties ngl (especially when there is the little sister trope). Just imagine you take the exact same context, but you focus on character growth, the world building and leveling instead of romance and harem. That could have been something epic.
SAO is about a gamer who has superior reaction time, almost 0 social skills, and no friends introduced to a video game. It’s a shame on how the anime cuts some things that would’ve made it a lot less harem-like etc. There’s a SAO movie that shows when Asuna and Kirito first meet and it’s all you need to see lol. I like SAO, the idea is sick, the anime is big, but not gigantic (fair share of 12 ep tragedies out there) and it has heart in some places and good art in others. There’s better anime out there, but SAO will always have a special place in my heart
SAO progressive movies are a redo of the original arncrid, and it's really well done too because the original was really rushed and it was the anime studio that pushed for the harem aspects because that's always made money, I know to each our own but I wish people would leave SAO alone now like please if it's not your cup of tea move onnnn ahhh, being a fan of it has been so painful like if you don't get it that's alright, like all it ever gets is critisim man, also the examples you used tokyo ghoul and AOT many did not like their endings although the beginning seasons were well received , it clearly isn't your cup of tea and you have the right to make whatever video you like but ahhhhhhhh I'm a die hard and will die on this ship. A lot of the issues you have are because of the anime studio they always butcher asuna scenes in favor for the haram and as a fan I'm really hate that, I don't expect others to like it because the anime is flawed which I guess was the reason for this video but since you were into the whole arncrid arc I say give the progressive movies a try the character depth is explored more and the chemistry between asuna and kirito is developed a lot better, A1-pictures is the studio that animated the story and they only had a bit to work with because it wasn't a full story or enough for 12 episodes, mothers rasario is also another nice arc more focused on asuna, the whole insest and tenticle nonsense is all the studio they didn't adopt those parts properly and were really just doing the tenticle for fan service, the insest thing was more so his sister having an identity crisis still was weird tho. I know my favorite anime is open to criticism but still, I'll get hate but I'm used to it.
Sword Art Online was the first Anime I ever watched at 12 years old and I do hold it in a special place in my heart 12 years later I do sometimes rewatch the 1st season and sometimes Season 2 but I will say if they really felt the need to add romance they should have just explored more and expanded on the love between Asuna and Kirito like It had potential but their was just some faults with the show as a whole but I am still fond of it. Also a few points Kirito 'Sister' is his Cousin not his Sister, Kirito was orphaned and raised by his Aunt though they kept referring her as his sister don't know if that was a translation error. Also the Subbed version was a 1000x better than the Dubbed like the Dubbed version was so cringe compared to the Subbed version. Do enjoy your perspective and thoughts on this Anime though LOL ps. Commented this before watching the last part of video I Totally agree and do feel like they should have went a bit more into depth like explored the world a bit more and really feel like it needed either expanded over more episodes or seasons like the Time jump from the First ep and 2nd ep is 2 Months like What!! Also I do feel like Kirito Martial arts and overpowered that the Headset requires players to put in their actual body physique and such, They should have been explained more in detail for casual watchers as in the manga he is trained for years in Taekwondo and martial arts but they only briefly mention this after they leave Aincrad.
SAO is the first anime I ever watch seriously. So of course it has a special place in my heart. That being said years of coming back to it, there are still many problems with it that I cannot overlooked
The concept of SAO being set in a game used to be the core of the series at first before being kicked onto the curb to be made into the background of the series. Sometimes, I even forget that they are actually in a game instead of being isekai'd later. That's how far the game world aspect is held back, even the game systems aren't that good. I question whether Reki actually has played any games or just did the most minimal research before & between the 1st volume in 2001/2002 to the anime release in 2012.
I watched the whole series and imo Kirito does get better and GGO spinoff is actually really good. Kirito started off as a self insert cause every guy wants their own of Asuna. Despite of the incest of that all Kirito wants in the end is to be with Asuna. Kirito does actually develop and the stakes does get higher and higher each season the most recent arc Alicization has the most impact on Kirito and was technically written off. I really like Kirito a lot cause not in his own show but the way he was written in Tales of Arise crossover. I fought him multiple times in the hard difficulty and he was fun.
*looks down at my SAO tattoos* Oh, something I don’t agree with from you for once 😭 Heres my opinions: Its not a harem anime. I’m not sure how you jump to “self insert character”? Like, I honestly found that part kind of offensive that you’re implying the author sees his sisters in that way when you don’t know anything about them. Do you think every author who writes about any kind of romance is experiencing that? Leafa isn’t even Kirito’s biological sister, not saying it’s right for them to be together but still don’t think it’s okay to make that comparison. A character is interested in only one person and marries them but its still considered harem. If you wanted more of the technical aspects, its in the novels, they just didn’t include it the anime cause most people don’t care. SAO was one of the first of its kind so it probably doesn’t feel groundbreaking but at the time it was and for arcs like Alicization I still think it is. I’m not sure what kind of story shouldn’t revolve around the main characters and interact with them? I think looking at Kirito episode one and at the very end of the series, he’s very different. He’s grown a lot especially from Alicization. Aincrad is supposed to be mild compared to what else he goes through. Yes, I do think Kirito is an interesting character. He may not be my favorite character from the series but I do think he’s great. They have more time in Aincrad in the progressive novels but don’t have time to adapt it all in the anime. If you watch the progressive movies they literally go floor by floor. I’m not sure how much more detailed you want it to be. I have no clue what you mean by GGO isn’t canon. I’m sorry, I usually love your takes I just got frustrated when you started implying that the author wants to be in a relationship with his sister.
Hey, first of all, i didn't want to make anyone feel bad for liking SAO. I tried to make it clear in the video that you shouldn't let other people's opinions dictate what you like, and you don't need any reasons to enjoy a show. You just enjoy it. So im sorry if you felt like i was being a bully. Also, my comment about the show writer having a sister was intended to be a comical, light-hearted, witty comment. I didn't intend to imply that there was actually any real-life thing going on. In the context of me having an older brother, had he written a storyline like that: I would bully him about it. But I should've been more clear about that being 100% just a dumb joke. Also, I do believe kirito is a self insert, and that's just my take on the anime. You're allowed your opinion, of course, but that was just mine
@ I don’t feel bad for liking SAO, I can’t speak for anyone else watching. I don’t think you were being a bully but there were too many times I felt like you were implying things of the enjoyers the anime. I understand you have your opinion of it but for a piece of fiction that isn’t hurting anyone, you don’t need to go for the viewers. If you wanted that context about the author then why not put it in your video? Now everyone who watches it is going to assume the same thing I did because they aren’t thinking it’s a joke about how you also have a brother. First time viewers would not know you have a brother.
Just like all the SAO haters, they only use the season 1 to hate it. Kirito is not the best protagonist, but it works to makes the story progress and it has a hidden evolution, passing to be a solo player, to starting to trust in people and having more time in the real world and pass more time with his sister Suguha, I don't care about the overpowered, because it's very common to find that in so many series, so I think it's stupid to hate him for that and I love the couple of Kirito and Asuna, they have so many cute moments together, the thing I like the most of Kirito is that it doesn't matter if he makes a harem, he's completely loyal to Asuna, because he really loves her. You say Asuna became weak after falling in love with Kirito and it doesn't have personality and you didn't care for none of the death scenes, watch the Mother's Rosario arc, which combined with Phantom Bullet is my favorite season, Asuna becomes the protagonist and it's even better than Kirito. I don't know if you saw Alicization, but that's the second best SAO season. The characters have development, you have to pay attention in some characters like Suguha, which is a very well hidden written character in my opinion. You can enjoy SAO if you see the whole series, I know it's not the best action anime, but it's so overrated and it's not fair. I like the concept that the story changes in every arc, but they're connected to each other, I admit the villains are very simple and generic, with the exception of Kayaba and Quinella, but for the rest, I really enjoyed watching SAO, maybe season 1 and 4 are the weakest ones, but 2 and 3 are excellent in my opinion.
The only thing i do not agree with you is bringing in that the author has 2 sisters in real life in comparison to using kirito's harem joke. Just becus they have 2 sisters themselves and has the suguha storyline in the story, i don't think it's ok to word it like the author's family members are in trouble or sth. If everything a artist does has to be grounded on reality/pulled in by reality's morals, there will be no controversy art and it would be stale. I do agree this series is mainly shit with a needless harem and the reason to blame for our influx of needless harem isekai world animes from then on, but that touch to the real life author line i think its kinda uncalled for.
Did i say his family members are in trouble? No. Do I think its weird? Yes. And I have a right to think it's weird. Especially as someone with an older brother, it's just nasty to me 😂 Ps- if the author didn't want this kind of thing pointed out maybe they shouldn't have added this random incest plotline that could've 100% been avoided into his PUBLISHED media. It's not like I read his diary, dude. He published this himself
@@Natasha.Louisee So with that same logic the author of Attack on Titan shouldn't have written the show to have characters and ideas that resemble very evil real life people and ideas because some COULD point out that maybe he agrees with them. Like no of course not. Its fiction at the end. Not to mention Kirito's sister DOES NOT like him in a romantic way. They were very close when they were kids but when Kirito found out he was adopted he distanced himself because he didn't know how to act around her anymore. She didn't know this at the time and they were both kids. So she thought she did something wrong. Fast forward to after Aincrad Kirito acts close to her again like nothing happened. She doesn't know how to feel about this because they haven't been that close in YEARS and she just found out that Kirito was adopted. For escapism she plays ALO and falls for a guy in the game (not knowing its Kirito). Once she finds out she is ofc very shocked hence leading to the infamous scene. She goes off on him telling him how she feels about how she fell for Kirito (in game) and how she feels about Kazuto (her brother). After this she moves on like a normal human being and they mend their relationship as brother and sister. WHERE IS THE INCEST IN THAT???
@@Shiki24315 that AOT comparison is literally not even in the same ballpark. A better equivalent would be if mikasa and eren were step siblings and they had a bigger romance arc or something. I don’t care about the ‘technicalities’ it’s still a weird and meaningless thing to add. They’re also cousins. And even if they were adopted, they still grew up together AS SIBLINGS. Which is what makes incest so gross in the first place. So it’s all still odd TO ME. You don’t have to agree with me, you’re entitled to your opinion but unfortunately you won’t be able to change my mind on this one I’m sorry
@@Natasha.Louisee Kirito and Suguha's relationship doesn't lead to any romance arc though. I'm not saying because they are step-siblings that romance is fine. I'm saying there is no romance there to begin with. As I said Suguha NEVER liked her brother in any romantic way AT ALL. This is also not meaningless as it one gives us an understanding of Kirito's past and why he used gaming as a form of escapism to begin with. Suguha also tris gaming in the arc to understand why it appealed to Kirito in the first place. But secondly Suguha and Kirito get over their past struggles and become an actual FAMILY. You are entitled to your own opinion but a lot of points made against this show are just lies.
This is such an unexpected video, haha. love that. I love sao though, the concept at least. its definitely not the best anime, but it does havs that charm
The concept of SAO was interesting at that time, but everything about it felt boring and empty that i stopped watching at the cabin episode. I would say Shangri-la frontier is the SAO that we deserved, leaving the high stakes and making it just about the fun of exploring a new game and reveling its secrets.

*HALLOWEEN-BLACKPINK, AQUELLO QUE HIZO CORRER A JISOO DE ESPANTO:* 🏃♀😱_______ 🧥🧤 Fue horrible.

And there’s like two seasons where it’s basically Kirito and his Bro Eugeo trooping on
Can’t blame bro for having rizz
You see, I'm just mega jealous 😔 need that Kirito rizz
Yeah hate never stops.
Do enjoy your perspective and thoughts on this Anime though LOL
ps.
I’m not even an anime girly but I’m watching cus I love u
SAO got me into anime but yeah there’s def stuff I wish was done differently
ngl this is my fav anime, havent watched it since 2020, maybe its worse than i remember.... 😭
I swear SAO haters are the most grass deprived lot
i watched the first three episodes, got confused, and never finished it 😭
I watched the whole series and imo Kirito does get better and GGO spinoff is actually really good.
2:32 GOOD FUCKING NIGHT 😭
Especially as someone with an older brother, it's just nasty to me 😂
Ps- if the author didn't want this kind of thing pointed out maybe they shouldn't have added this random incest plotline that could've 100% been avoided into his PUBLISHED media.
@natashalouise can you please make a video about baby monster new album and overperforming
Hi Natalie, pls make a video on Riize seunghan plss❤
This is such an unexpected video, haha. love that. I love sao though, the concept at least. its definitely not the best anime, but it does havs that charm
The concept of SAO was interesting at that time, but everything about it felt boring and empty that i stopped watching at the cabin episode.
I would say Shangri-la frontier is the SAO that we deserved, leaving the high stakes and making it just about the fun of exploring a new game and reveling its secrets.
Well the first opening theme of it and part 1 of season 1 is fire but the rest after Aincrad.
Where do you Watch anime?
Do the season two of tower of god 💀💀
Good vid! Cover some good anime
Will you start continuing doing kpop vids?
Yes~ there's a kpop video scheduled on sat or Tuesday ❤️
@ good
The only good otome game is my candy love, the main character actually has a personality and the story is well made
the way we have the exact same pfp 😭
The same awful arguments and misconceptions and misunderstanding of the story
What a garbage video
20 летняя девушка британка, возмущается серией книг, написанной в Японии 25 лет назад, с целевой аудиторией "парни - подростки". Круто. Что дальше, Highschool DxD, To Love-ru?
Видать концепт "разная целевая аудитория", является для неё тайной.

*HALLOWEEN-BLACKPINK, AQUELLO QUE HIZO CORRER A JISOO DE ESPANTO:*
🏃♀😱_______ 🧥🧤
