hi Natasha idk if you remember me but I requested this video, thank you so much for making a video about badvillian (i love them so much) and I ADORE YOU, you are amazing💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
this ^^ as a black woman I don't find it offensive, I find it embarrassing. I managed to hold it in until I heard "spin the block-block-block". The cackle I cackled was foul 'cause girl what are you saying and why are they saying it like they've never heard it said before in their lives, let alone used aave in a conversation. I'd be mortified if I were them
Honestly i find it slightly offensive myself because like is that all you think hip hop and rap can be? Gang gang and lets spin the block? Cringey as fuck
@@KylasLifeeI doubt they even know what it means 😭or even whoever wrote the song. Like if your gonna use our lingo, at least make it make sense. It's like in every kpop song they use AAVE but just throw it in a song randomly to sound cool
the people calling them "visual holes" are the same type of people who get mad at the kpop industry for only caring about visuals and not actually talented people 🤦♀️ hypocritical af
exactly. its so dehumanizing as well... how can you call someone's entire appearance a "visual hole" and still feel good about yourself?? kpop idols are supposed to be artists.
What worries me right now for 5th gen is the big battle of MONSTIEZ, bad villain fans, and meovv future fans. It’s gonna get so damn messy and the way fans are acting this feels like a repeat of the battle between toxic blinks, armies, and onces back in the day 😔
I don’t think babymonster is that strong of girl crush tbh, their music style is punchy especially the rap and belting but I can’t rlly find a word to describe their concept esp since forever and stuck in the middle is the opposite of what we expected from a yg group
@@Naticov ballet has a very clear distinction between pre professional programmes (with academics!) and adults… I wish kpop and especially survival shows would copy this and focus on the transition to professional arts and entertainment as young adults not as children. let the kids finish school at least! grown-up artists can show us their own personality and have sufficient vocal and dance training to shut down any haters. it would be more enjoyable and cut down on controversies around inappropriate dances/lyrics.
Honestly as a black girl who got into kpop around 2021 I’ve grown used to the misuse of aave. It’s gotten to the point where I find it more funny than anything, however, I still can’t help but cringe a little when I hear it. It would be understandable if those idols ACTUALLY grew up in the hood but 90% don’t, yet they still talk about “running up on the ops” like bro who are guys ops the seasangs??? Anyways love your vids!! 🙏🏾💕💕
@@Jeremy-ln5yu African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is the variety formerly known as Black English Vernacular or Vernacular Black English among sociolinguists, and commonly called Ebonics outside the academic community.
As someone who did grow up poor and in a broken home, it doesn't bother me when people who didn't grow up that way represent it, and lets be real here 80% of rappers who say they grew up hard, they didn't
And I don't think it's really fair to say idols don't have a hard life, it's insanely difficult to even be considered to debut, 1 tiny mistake can ruin your entire career, it's been known for a long time that companies abuse their idols, and a lot of idols left home with nothing just for a small chance to debut
The "you aint even gang" line is crazy coming from any idol 🫠 it was honestly weird to hear it, but the song is good and these type of thing is becoming commun in kpop. I don't know how to feel about it, of course the girls are not to blame, the lyrics writers and agency are but how is this becoming normalized and why nobody's talking about it? In france, you make a persona like this your carreer is over and everyone is making fun of you 😂
Heavy on french ppl!! it seems like they're so close-minded on music and the artists who didn't fit the mainstream style in music will go in english instead. And it's understandable bcs most of the songs in last years are kinda in 2-3 same genres 💀
It's honestly baffling when people choose to be bullies or haters for no good reason. When someone is placed in a group, even if the process is questionable or seemingly rigged, it’s because they possess potential and talent. Dismissing someone just because they don’t fit a certain mold or standard, like visuals, completely overlooks the hard work and skill that go into being part of a group. People who think that visuals are the only reason someone gets into a group ignore the fact that those members have talent and, if they haven’t reached their full potential yet, they will with time and practice. That’s the whole point of being in a group: to grow, to hone your skills, and to become the best version of yourself. Visual appeal isn’t the central focus-it's just one aspect. Unfortunately, some people can’t stand to see others succeed and will latch onto any excuse to bring them down, refusing to recognize the effort and improvement that goes on behind the scenes. They don’t realize that success isn’t just handed out; it’s earned through hard work, dedication, and growth.
9:54 (coming from a black person) the ´ you ain’t even gang ´ is not really a problem for me because in the sentence it just means like you’re not part of their squad I don’t know how to explain bc English is not my first language but as an example: let’s say there’s a girl that think she’s in my friend group and do too much I can tell her « u ain’t even gang » which basically means she’s not as relevant to me as she’s think she is 😭 I don’t know if my explanation is good but yeah Also, the ´spin the block’ is INSANE 😭😭 it’s weird coming from a non black because we get called « ghetto » for stuff like this but other races take it (and make money off of it) and it gets appreciated when it’s not used by us…
Spin the block line definitely didn’t get the girls appreciated, they constantly got dragged for it. But I agree with the rest of your comments. I didn’t know using the word “gang” was aave… and I’ve been using that word constantly…
Well. If u don’t know. That “spin the block” and the whole +82 song was from the members writing it themselves. Chloe and Ina wrote it. The lyrics was too sensitive so it was banned from performing in show 😂
@@Naizya oh no. I agree with you. Just wanted to give you some fun informations that all. For me the girls calling themselves gang is funny for me since they are just cute 🤣
baemon fans already are pissed about "the favoritism" for some meovv members and from now on it's only going to get worse, we're about to witness peak third gen fanwars all over again...
I think meovvs concept is more similar to le sserafim, I hope monstiez and meovvs get along and don’t create “who is better” wars. I’m a multistan and I plan on stanning meovv and i also Stan bm so I hope people realise you don’t HAVE to pick one
The Baemon fans are already angry about the “favoritism” of MEOVV has been getting from Black pink over Baemon, even blaming the members. Like what Ella has known BP members more and spent more time with BP. Ofcourse they are going to congratulate MEOVV on their path to debut.
Just reminding: people will always have something to say. People will say visual is important and other might say it is not but they are not the same person. Like people who say singing live is important and not important. It's unfair to always be like : Once yall want this, then you want that... no.
Very true. I'm bad, i group people together because i genuinely think so many people try to pick on idols for any reason they can. whether it be bad vocals or bad visual. those are the people i'm targeting from my intro
Actually you had a reasoning and didn't do it because you wanted to group us. You released a whole justified commentary video that explain why you have this point of view. I didn't want to come off as mean and sorry if i did❤❤@NatashaLkim
No I actually agree on the AAVE part because it’s getting really out of hand people just play it down as internet lingo (as if that’s not another way of appropriating an entire dialect). I’m not even American, but had to pause sometimes because I thought to myself _huuuh??_ on the other hand I have been a kpop fan for more than 15 years atp it’s nothing new and we’ve been having this conversation for over a decade and nothing changed. On my part I’m tired and just let them do I guess also I’m in my late 20’s and this is not something that’s taking much place up in my mind. What gives me the ick with BV and even XG is the combination with their concept they try to have this bad ass gangsta persona and it’s slightly bothering me since yeah as you said it reinforces stereotypes about a group that got deeply marginalized and attacked for centuries because of exactly those. Cultural appropriation in kpop is such a problem, but to be fair would the music slap the same way without it? Without these drill beats and raps? Over the years I found myself to have a more neutral slightly negative opinion on this. But I should also say that this is my opinion as a single person who happens to be black. Other black fans might agree or might have a complete different outlook on this topic in general and that’s okay everyone is entitled to their opinion. But as a Stray Kids ult, this topic kinda is something I stumbled over a lot these days. Really like your content and have been bing watching a lot of your videos with my little sister. Keep it going, you amazing ✨ sending much love from Germany 🫶🏾
I agree entirely. Its such a problem in kpop, even without the "hip-hop" concept. Our culture is their accessories for their concepts and it is constantly disrespected. From AAVE to our cultural dances. Groups who want to be seen as badass use AAVE (once again making it seem like we are gangsters or something for using aave..) to people twerking in their sexy concepts (this one bothers me a lot less but it's still weird to me and its not absolutely nothing to bring back our reputation). And im tired, as a 4 year stan. It's incredibly disappointed to be reminded how little kpop truly values and treats my culture.
its the fact that they’re all pretty- also as a black kpop fan, i could see how the use of aave makes people upset but for me personally, it doesn’t bother ne as long as it sounds good and its used somewhat right and makes sense yk
Im black, and these idols misusing AAE really doesnt offend me that much But it is very annoying when they just say gang, or using finna, gunna, aint, etc ( which the last 2 arent really that bad but still) Cuz its just weird and janky
I actually do find it offensive when kpop idols use "black slang" because kpop is 70% taking a hip hop aesthetic while shunning anyone darker than a paper bag. The kpop companies love to act "all cool and hip" when they dislike black people. You only have to watch the katseye documentary for a most recent example. Of all the claims about celebrating a global gg, they went on a nationwide search and somehow couldn't find one black girl with talent who was dark-skinned. Ummmm....
lol ikr it’s bullshit, I’ve been thinking about it. They showed a dark skin girl as a potential contestant but she was never picked… if you saw her videos, she was definitely talented, but probably to hybe and geffen she was too dark and it was never about talent but picking girls who they think are “attractive” enough for them it’s why every single “black” girl (sorry, I don’t believe in calling mixed girls black) was mixed… Naisha, Samara and Manon… but it’s whatever I guess… I’ll give bpm their tens because Kany is highly involved though
I like Badvillian and their discography idk what fans don’t see about them but they do have potential to bring something new to the table same with new groups if they can bring something to the K-pop table then it shouldn’t be a big problem or issue I even said that about XG they debut in 2022 and ever since then they have been bringing something to the table and they’re ready to bring more I also think Badvillian can do that as well
I swore they said “mobbing with the bad girls, you won’t even get” not “you ain’t even gang” there’s 100 better lyric options than that but they were desperate to fit that AAVE in there I’m afraid
Usually i don't care about the english lyrics because i'm not english. But badvillain 💀 it's soooooooooooo cringe. I can't take the group seriously with lyrics like this.
These award show have been out of the hand for a while, who is even keeping up? But congrats on them, it was probably nice to get acknowledgment on such a public platform hopefully it’s the first of many for them.
what award is that anyway? Why not win top album sales / win Spotify streaming / win most views on TH-cam / win top trending on X .... like how Babymonster wins
@@mercoluv You BABYMONSTER fans have to bring them up everytime don't you? This Is literally why people hate your fandom. Lemme teach you something, the KWDA are an awards ceremony presented by digital platform named "Soribada" (search It on Google if you don't know what it Is). Also BADVILLAIN are from a much smaller company which Is "BPM Entertainment", is not one of the big 3 companies out there, like YG is, so your comparison doesn't make any sense.
@@mercoluv You BABYMONSTER fans have to bring them up everytime, don't you? This is literally why everyone hates your fandom. Let me teach you something "The K-World Dream Awards, formerly known as the Soribada Best K-Music Awards, is an awards ceremony presented by the digital music platform Soribada to celebrate the best and brightest of K-pop releases." (Wikipedia is free, just a tip for you). Also, BADVILLAIN is from a much smaller company, which is called "BPM Entertainment" (same company that Taemin and Viviz are in), it's not like one of those companies that are in the big 3 like YG is, you know? It's kinda different. That's why your comparison doesn't make any sense.
badvillain's aave misuse is hilariously bad imho and I'm a fan of their music, outside of the aave they seem genuinely respectful of the influences they're pulling from and thus far have gone out of their way to work with black creatives to create this sound and image. Which more than i can say for most kpop "inspired" by black art. That being said, "mobbin' with the bad girls you ain't even gang" is one of the worst lines in kpop history. The only one you brought up that doesn't really bother me is " I'm with the sisters breaking the system" because it doesn't really feel like aave to me and is at least kinda true to the fact that they are subversive within the industry. It's just kinda corny lol.
I like BADVILLAIN releases, especially because they give off that grand yet casual feeling that legendary groups used to have. Tbh their debut song gives me Nillili Mambo vibes, can't wait for their end of the year performances ❤
As a black person. I don't really find the lyrics offensive. It's more I just find it funny or cringe. But it's been in Kpop for a minute and im used to it. Kpop fans being hypocrites isn't surprising. I wouldn't expect anything less from them to virtue signal about visuals not mattering only for them the next minute to bash a groups visuals... Also another thing. Thank you for mentioning how idiotic this whole ad views controversy this year. Every group/company does it. It's part of promotion and literally the company's responsibility to promote. Plus a view doesn't count if you don't watch it for at least 30 seconds to which atp you're choosing to watch it and thus should count as a view. And thank you again for pointing out the lack of self awareness of these kpop stans who literally stream to inflate their favorite's groups numbers on TH-cam, Spotify and such.
Natasha, just found your channel and had to watch this video - the whole Baemon and Badvillain discussion is literally bonkers and I really enjoyed your approach on the subject..... Girl you are awesome. Love the real talk, love the witty sarcasm and the in depth talk about facts. Definitely subscribing. And yes, both groups are absolutely great.
I love badvillans debut but comparing them to babymonster is just annoying every group that debuts gets compared to them and I don’t know abt the similarities I just care abt the songs they can make
no matter what with the k-pop community there will always be something for these mouth breathers to say. in my opinion, badvillain has some of the most gorgeous girls of the whole industry and i HATE that people don't understand the concept of 90% of what they do is what the company tells them to but they take it out on the members instead
I can defiently see the simalarties between BaMon and Badvillian, but acting like Badvillian's company copied straight from BaMon is just weird. It takes months to prepare for debuts, comebacks, etc. and thinking that BPM saw BaMon redubt and was able to copy it in a few months is not logical. If we are to believe BaMon was preparing for debut for over a year (as the whole BaMon show was announced in Dec 2022), what makes people think BPM was able to copy BaMon and debut Badvillian in like 3 months? Also the teaser music for Badvillian; even if the final edit of the teaser was made after the BaMon's teasers were released, the music is most likely from a non-copy righted music/audio catalog. Its not surprising to me that two groups with a simular girl crush/ "bad girl" concept used the same music in a teaser, seeing how they are going for the same concept. Love the videos and keep up the good work!
I’m Black and I really want to impress upon k-pop songwriters and producers that African American English/AAE is a complex language system with grammar rules, structure, and regional differences. Just like other languages, it’s constantly evolving. When I hear bad AAE in a k-pop song it feels like a mockery. You know how gross it feels to hear someone mocking Asian languages with those stereotypical and offensive sounds? That’s what inappropriate use of AAE in k-pop songs feels like to me. It feels even worse when the blaccent is tacked on there as if that’s a requirement to be a rapper, the visual gesturing and styling leans into stereotypes, and knowing they don’t live nan part of their raps. It’s unnecessary and I hate it.
Some kpop fans can't pick a struggle like they say kpop idols have no talent but they are random people who sit in their chair talk sh#t like they have talent it doesn't make sense
As a black person I agree, I get that kpop idols don't wrote most of their raps but if you are rapping about living in the hood, while doing hip hop then saying or doing something that could be considered racist it's pretty ironic, because at least you should educate yourself about it as kpop in general has hip hop sounds and even most of the dances are hip hop yet they fail to realize how racist they can be. Kpop companies should educate their idols because as someone who grow up poor and is in a better situation now is pretty annoying hearing this idols rap about something they haven't even experienced
I would just like to mention that the BGM used for both BV and BM trailers is actually royalty free music called Status: Anxiety. While using it comes across as shady, it's more likely that BPM just wanted to use a track that they wouldn't have to pay for. Also, both BV and BM borrowed from the same sample rather than BV "copying" BM. Other than that, great video!
Once you leave twitter and fandoms and just listen and enjoy the music its pretty good. Your allowed to choose what songs u like and dont like without hearing others opinions.
The aave really drags the group like I really enjoyed BadVillian and Young Posse especially with the gta concept and the instrumentals from both groups and BV choreography it’s all good but they really do need to stop using aave
Babe wake up Natasha L. Kim dropped a new video (But fr, the "visuals only/where's the visual" discourse makes me wanna scream, thank you for being a reasonable person lol)
I am black and yes the AAVE usage absolutely bothers me in kpop in general lol. when i first heard “badvillain” i had to run that “you ain’t even gang” line back multiple times bc what?????
I’m black. And no I’m not offended by any of the lyrics. Mobbing and ganging is not a black thing, it’s an Italian thing. So it’s a concept. Lol and spin the block could definitely mean anything. It originally meant going back to your ex. You know we rolling it’s heavy. Is just a phrase. What about “Pull up on me, pay the price” “Roll up on 'em with the motor running ima give you something, bet ya put the money in the bag?” Baby Monster? KPOP in general pulls from the AA community period. I like both groups but I think of BM as a baby group, with a pop sound and BV as an adult group with a trap sound. I just dislike how KPOP fans hate everything lol. Literally we would have one KPOP group if it were up to the fans lol
as a black girl i do find the aave (misuse) cringey! and i like badvillain, i wanted to stan bc their concept is cool, theyre all 18+, great performers and the music on its own *sounds* nice but theres an issue with kpop rap heavy groups kind of making caricatures out of african americans with the hip hop scene so i like to stay away from them in general. its also a valid criticism on their rapping skills: they dont know what theyre talking about, theyre just saying things that sound cool :/
after this video i might stan badvillain ngl i saw their performances often while watching live music shows like mcountdown n music bank that shit was FIREEE i wish i could listen to badvillain (their self titled song) for the first time again bc i was gobsmacked
Thank you! I thought I was the only one who thought they was more similar to XG than BabyMonster. If anything they seem like the more explicit version of XG, for lack of a better term.
As a fan of XG and Badvillain also while being black, I feel like I'm recently noticing just how bad AAVE in Kpop has gotten 😭 It usually flies over my head because I don't pay attention until someone points it out and I'm like "Oh" 💀 I've seen other black people like these same groups too (mainly my peers) so my opinion on these groups is always so confused. Should I still be listening to these groups or should I stop supporting them?
XG used AAVE in their previous releases but the thing is they don’t really misuse it at all and they tone it down in their recent releases plus they worked with black producers and writers even shooting star was produced in ATLANTA and when I say the girlies of XG really appreciate black culture I mean it these girls grew up listening to the OGs and paying homage to them that’s why you find a majority of black ppl supporting them bc they are for the culture
@briii4339 exactly and cocona literally started her whole carrier as a rapper at third grade just bcs of LAURYN HILL like yes what theses girls are doing is just appreciation and not appropriation
9:33 Those lyrics made me laugh. I guess I’ll speak up as a Black person in my 30s. AAVE: we pronounce it as its acronym “A.A.V.E.” in linguistics, and I guess also that’s the new politically correct term for it in the black community, since growing up “eb*nics” was a slur, but in the 90s and 00s, it was neutrally called Black [American] English in layman’s terms iirc. AAVE isn’t necessarily slang. It’s a creole actually, or developed from one, a non-standard dialect of English incorporating West African grammar and phonetics, that grew out of the necessity of communication between enslaved people who had to learn English and came from a wide array of West African tribes and languages. But in recent years, AAVE has become synonymous with “slang within Black-American subcultures” as well. “She ain’t gon’ get wid him” or “Where she be?” = AAVE. “Rizz”or “Vibin” or “Crib” = slang. I just want to get that straight first. Now, the Kpop being appropriative or not thing goes a bit deep. This comment might get even longer but I hope I can be concise. So these days, Western lyricists and choreographers and even producers are working with Kpop groups, either working directly with the company and group’s staff or selling their music to a company and then letting it get shopped around to others if that company passes on it. Some of these people are Black, some are White, some are Asian-American or Koreans living overseas. Honestly, while I’ve seen a lot of Black choreographers credited in Kpop, every time I check the trapiest or most cringe-worthy Kpop lyrics involving AAVE or Black-American slang, the lyricist is White or Asian and did not grow up in Black-predominant areas in the case that I can find info on where they grew up. So… Well, I’ll just say that these lyrics make me laugh, regardless of who wrote them. Because as you said, what’s cringey is these Korean kids who know nothing about these very contextual street slang particularly in the context of AAVE features feels so out of place. It was weird when G-Dragon and whoever else was doing it, it’s even weirder to see teeny bopper girls doing it. But hey, I’m not a person who gets made. I’m just a person who laughs and decides to only listen to music I vibe with. That reminds me of Eli from U-Kiss. Despite being a native English speaker, his raps didn’t use street slang or AAVE and they always made me laugh because of how corny they were, but I listened because corny =/= “this is giving me cringey ick and after laughing, I don’t want to hear it again”
YAAAAA-HOOOOO. I ran to watch this video. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS I haven't heard a group sound like Badvillain {I'M NEW TO KPOP}. I really enjoy their songs, dances and personalities. OMG one of the members has a voice that just scratches a part in my brain. I believe its Chloe.
as a black person(this sounds so weird typing this out lol), i personally don't mind the aave but i also understand that there will be other black people who take offense to it. i don't take the aave seriously bcs of the way they used it since they don't seem to be trying to sound 'black'. they seem like they have a girl grush concept but mixed with hip-hop. there are many other groups that have been styled stereotypical black/hood and sound 'black' which is SOO MUCH worse to me.
I feel like this is another case similar to the Newjeans and ILLIT one, but Newlit one was worse. Both groups have similar/same concept, which results to similar music. I feel like now if you don’t bring something new to K-pop or do something that has already been done you get plagiarism accusations, and with all the toxic stans it’s worse. I just don’t get, can’t we just enjoy the music in peace? This is like the most annoying thing in K-pop, the non-stop drama everyday made by jobless people. I do think that babymonster and bad villain are very similar, but many other groups are similar to them as well…like baemon didn’t create girl crush concept. Same with newjeans and ILLIT, the situation got worse bcz of MHJ and all the other drama. As a multistan I am tired of defending groups each time it’s becoming annoying.
The combo of minors in kpop (edit: talking in general, not about BADVILLAIN) and then doing 'baddie' concepts is just an instant nope to me. You're not convincing me. Grow up first and maybe then come back to some actual girl crush or 'hip hop' concepts. May just be me. Feel free to feel differently!
the part where you said we'd be mad if companies didn't promote our faves hits so close to home for me that my bedroom window is smashed bc my favorite group is under wakeone like the only time kep1er got views from ads is bc a fan paid youtube to have galileo advertised i don't wanna see any complaints about groups getting ads bc i wish that was my girls getting them 😭
@YouknowMimisParplaveOr oh its just that i was a kpoppie around 2017-2019 and then in 2020 i lost interest a month ago i remembered how much i liked one girl group so i checked what they are up to now and i became obsessed again the obsession was so bad at one point that i cried because i couldnt force myself to do anything except for binge watching videos about them😭😭😭😭
I just wanna say...first they say Babymonster is copying Blackpink, now Badvillian is copying Babymonster. Can't groups just make music in peace? I think I'll start only consuming official content and stop caring - period - what fans and netizens think. Kpop will be so much more enjoyable like that, some of these people are insane-
3:49, it doesn't matter that she was the only member in badvillain to have that music, but the two songs aren't identical they are SAME. listen to the two songs again, the transitions between the songs sounded the same
I think like they have geniuses pr. They made photos there similar to babymonster so all the netizens can scream "Plagiarism " and make so good content that they got a lot of fans and i am a fan too
I have shared this opinion before....NOTHING IN MUSIC IS ORIGINAL anymore! If you're not Beethoven, Mozart or something of that nature, you are not original! I stan Bae Mon AND Bad Villain, plus SOOOOO many more, and I see the similarities between the two groups, but Bad Villain's music vibes more with XG. Just one fan's humble opinion! Thank you for posting this!
Girl- ily so much but the way you say aave is funny af😂 its pronounced like you would normally pronounced any abbreviation, so each letter individually A-A-V-E.❤
i rather be ugly and Talented people are so goofy They litteraly have the best dance and rap line(For gg) this 5th generation Not even their Visual only group could Match
I'd highly suggest you check out any/all of Choujimi's videos reviewing "bad" English in Kpop. I'm in the same camp as he is, likely because he and I both studied linguistics, which, as a field of study, fundamentally rejects the notion of "proper" language utilization and focuses solely on how language is actually used in practice. I was once a shameless grammar Nazi, but I had a major change of heart on the matter when I started studying linguistics. The notion of "proper" English is rooted in racism (why is AAVE even treated as a separate language? Does the "E" not stand for "English?"); classism ("proper" English is a reflection of the language used by members of the upper class); ableist (learning disabilities exist and don't make people's language utilization less valid if they're getting their point across); and, perhaps most relevantly, xenophobic, as examining the ways non-native speakers utilize language are important to help facilitate appropriate translation and localization. That's a lot, but anyway, yeah. TLDR: "Proper English" doesn't exist. Big Grammar made it up to sell textbooks and peddle a false narrative.
As a non native speaker, there's a lot of examples in kpop of "bad English" that still got the point across for me, like I didn't even know that Soyeon diamond line in My Bang was "Bad English", to put an example. Also, I'm pretty sure songwriting falls under lyrical poetry, which prioritize expression and has a lot of stylistics choices attached to it, some of them include not using "proper English", like changing the grammar of a sentence (hyperbaton) I've become even more aprehensive about people critizing "bad English" from idols (specially because there's a lot of them that aren't native English speakers) I have a oficial certificate for First with qualifications for Advanced in English and I still make mistakes and have some weird phrasing whenever I write or speak in English, so cut these idols some slack for not fullfilling your standard of "proper English"
What’s the point of fans getting angry and slinging mud if even the companies haven’t confirmed they’re claiming theft? 🤨 Edit: wait let me finish the video before I comment. I just didn’t see this on kpop junkee so assumed no statement was made as he only reports on stuff where companies made statements
I love you & your videos sm girl, but remember to take some breaks TT you've been pumping out content like crazy, & although my mood always becomes better when I see you post, it's also important to take a break sometimes. please take care
I can't even tell anyone I like kpop because they automatically assume that I'm a toxic blink / army who basically worships their ult groups. Because unfortunately when people think of kpop they think of those toxic fans because that's what they've seen online. This petty drama about groups 'copying' other groups is ruining the reputation of kpop fans and its annoying, I have to lie about my favourite things :// like bro what happened to just listening to the music and being friendly w eachother no matter which groups we stan
Visual holes?? Wtf are they on they are literally so pretty netizens are clearly brainwashed and I am so tired with babymonster stans no shade but their music sounds like black pink and if we go that far black pink sounds like 2NE1 and its not the artists fault they are talented but YG RUINS every group look at bp members they are thriving solo
Love how every group now gets called a copy of another as if kpop groups are original. The new jeans illit comparison was such a joke, people were acting like New Jeans was some massively original concept 😂😂😂
Although I don't hate the girls, I won't just ignore how their COMPANY almost 1:1 copied Babymonster. And I won't discuss that, cause I think it's pretty clear. From teaser videos of the members, the concept photos being (And I think y'all can't deny) LITERALLY a 1:1 cop, their poses too and also the sound of 'BAD VILLAIN'. I hope their company is doing better next time. Also their music production is really not good for their first single album. It sounds really cheap.
Agreed with everything you said once again! 👏 Except for some lyrics, their songs slaps. I have always wanted to hear and see something like them in Kpop and they're the one.
Question, If normal fans know that Kpop has tons of toxic Fandoms and haters with no lives constantly talking sh! t in forums and social media sites, then why do normal fans spend so much time defending and/or engaging with them and giving them exactly what they want which is attention and/or amusement which only fuels their flame? Maybe I'm just seeing it wrong and the normal fans are crazy also. 🤔
I loved this video. We need more dissenting opinions in K-pop that look at not just the historical aspect of company/group dynamics. but also like the current landscape of concepts and who thrives. It’s terribly interesting stuff that gets drowned out by nonsense like the devil horns bs. I only listened to bv a couple of times during their promos but I too think they’re growing on me. Definitely doing some interesting stuff so far.❤

In france, you make a persona like this your carreer is over and everyone is making fun of you 😂
It had me giggling first listen 😭😭😭
Heavy on french ppl!! it seems like they're so close-minded on music and the artists who didn't fit the mainstream style in music will go in english instead. And it's understandable bcs most of the songs in last years are kinda in 2-3 same genres 💀
First few times I heard it ‘love it with a bad girl you ain’t even gay’😅😅😅💀
@@Lillyiani it would've been so much better 😂
9:54 (coming from a black person) the ´ you ain’t even gang ´ is not really a problem for me because in the sentence it just means like you’re not part of their squad I don’t know how to explain bc English is not my first language but as an example: let’s say there’s a girl that think she’s in my friend group and do too much I can tell her « u ain’t even gang » which basically means she’s not as relevant to me as she’s think she is 😭 I don’t know if my explanation is good but yeah
Also, the ´spin the block’ is INSANE 😭😭 it’s weird coming from a non black because we get called « ghetto » for stuff like this but other races take it (and make money off of it) and it gets appreciated when it’s not used by us…
Spin the block line definitely didn’t get the girls appreciated, they constantly got dragged for it.

Yes that’s true with the AAVE and so much more
spin the block will foreverrrrr take me out! you aint even GANG?
Spin the block got me
its the fact that they’re all pretty-
also as a black kpop fan, i could see how the use of aave makes people upset but for me personally, it doesn’t bother ne as long as it sounds good and its used somewhat right and makes sense yk
I like Badvillian and their discography idk what fans don’t see about them but they do have potential to bring something new to the table same with new groups if they can bring something to the
K-pop table then it shouldn’t be a big problem or issue I even said that about XG they debut in 2022 and ever since then they have been bringing something to the table and they’re ready to bring more I also think Badvillian can do that as well
If you guys didn't know kany a choreographer for badvillain said it was a concept created 4 years ago

I swore they said “mobbing with the bad girls, you won’t even get” not “you ain’t even gang” there’s 100 better lyric options than that but they were desperate to fit that AAVE in there I’m afraid

badvillain's aave misuse is hilariously bad imho and I'm a fan of their music, outside of the aave they seem genuinely respectful of the influences they're pulling from and thus far have gone out of their way to work with black creatives to create this sound and image. Babymonster and badvillian sound so different idk why ppl are so obsessed with them.
People really straight up calling kids ugly now
I’m Black and I really want to impress upon k-pop songwriters and producers that African American English/AAE is a complex language system with grammar rules, structure, and regional differences. It’s unnecessary and I hate it.
this!
Some kpop fans can't pick a struggle like they say kpop idols have no talent but they are random people who sit in their chair talk sh#t like they have talent it doesn't make sense
I'd rather my favs get 10000x ads than getting no promotion

So…
Well, I’ll just say that these lyrics make me laugh, regardless of who wrote them.
Black culture is like the cherry on top for kpop groups. They seriously CANT let it go.

I love your videos wtf😭🙏Your always serving every thumbnail
The combo of minors in kpop (edit: talking in general, not about BADVILLAIN) and then doing 'baddie' concepts is just an instant nope to me. You're not convincing me. Grow up first and maybe then come back to some actual girl crush or 'hip hop' concepts. May just be me. Feel free to feel differently!
Minors??? MINORS? I was so confident that this group were adults by their concept. Now I can't stan fuck
Wait they are minors?
@@Natasha.Louisee the youngest member is 18
@@orbitsomnia now i'm confused
@@Natasha.Louiseeno all the members are 18+ there is no minors
I love badvillian, hip hop oriented kpop is what got me into kpop music, personally I like them way more then baby monster, I'm sick of the yg sound
You should definetly make a video on young posse, i would love to know your point of view on ate that and the miss use of aave
Great video as always 😗
the part where you said we'd be mad if companies didn't promote our faves hits so close to home for me that my bedroom window is smashed bc my favorite group is under wakeone like the only time kep1er got views from ads is bc a fan paid youtube to have galileo advertised i don't wanna see any complaints about groups getting ads bc i wish that was my girls getting them 😭
i came back to the kpop fandom a month ago and ur helping me catch up with everything thank yous🙏🙏
@YouknowMimisParplaveOr oh its just that i was a kpoppie around 2017-2019 and then in 2020 i lost interest
a month ago i remembered how much i liked one girl group so i checked what they are up to now and i became obsessed again
the obsession was so bad at one point that i cried because i couldnt force myself to do anything except for binge watching videos about them😭😭😭😭
I literally love Natasha, she's so fuckin real. yall can hate on her but she's telling the truth.
I just wanna say...first they say Babymonster is copying Blackpink, now Badvillian is copying Babymonster. Can't groups just make music in peace? I think I'll start only consuming official content and stop caring - period - what fans and netizens think. Kpop will be so much more enjoyable like that, some of these people are insane-
3:49, it doesn't matter that she was the only member in badvillain to have that music, but the two songs aren't identical they are SAME. listen to the two songs again, the transitions between the songs sounded the same
I don't know when one of your videos poped on my screen as recommended but man i am glad i watched it. Love your content❤
Thank you for posting this!
fr ...BV are more like XG Korea tbh so far away from Baemon ..
Girl- ily so much but the way you say aave is funny af😂 its pronounced like you would normally pronounced any abbreviation, so each letter individually A-A-V-E.❤
I pronounce literally everything wrong 90% of the time 😭 I'm sorry 🩷
@@Natasha.Louisee lmao it's ok your fine honesty alot of people do that by mistake 😭
Woohoo 12k subs!! Cheers 🎉
Teeehee thank you 🥳💕💐
i rather be ugly and Talented
people are so goofy
They litteraly have the best dance and rap line(For gg) this 5th generation Not even their Visual only group could Match
Also, I'm pretty sure songwriting falls under lyrical poetry, which prioritize expression and has a lot of stylistics choices attached to it, some of them include not using "proper English", like changing the grammar of a sentence (hyperbaton)
I've become even more aprehensive about people critizing "bad English" from idols (specially because there's a lot of them that aren't native English speakers)
I have a oficial certificate for First with qualifications for Advanced in English and I still make mistakes and have some weird phrasing whenever I write or speak in English, so cut these idols some slack for not fullfilling your standard of "proper English"
Spin the block?!!!! Whaaaaat
UR SO PRETTY !! also i love ur perspective abt this
As a NCT fan I agree completely about your point about kpop rappers. At the least they should hire Black writers to write the raps.
As a black individual this is nothing.
What’s the point of fans getting angry and slinging mud if even the companies haven’t confirmed they’re claiming theft? 🤨
Edit: wait let me finish the video before I comment. I just didn’t see this on kpop junkee so assumed no statement was made as he only reports on stuff where companies made statements
I love you & your videos sm girl, but remember to take some breaks TT
you've been pumping out content like crazy, & although my mood always becomes better when I see you post, it's also important to take a break sometimes. please take care
9:27 more like especially if you are African AMERICAN . Cause honestly I don´t notice it like i can´t hear it out . That is from an AFRICAN.
Except for some lyrics, their songs slaps.
Definitely doing some interesting stuff so far.❤
looks are the most important thing in kpop
Badvillian is an excellent talented group.. theyre all pretty to these toxic fans are erm
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, QUEEN
Thank you for watchingggggg ❤❤❤❤❤
