A lot of people looking at the most popular groups nowadays don't seem to realize how absolutely MASSIVE Itzy were in the early days. Omnipresent, hundreds of millions of views every release, definitely destined for greatness. Unfortunately I think that the majority of their fans were clout chasers. Big four stans, company stans, people who stanned groups for how popular they are rather than the music or actually liking the group themselves. So once Itzy had a massively unpopular release, those fans abandoned them in droves. Itzy are a really quiet group now and are only left with their loyal fans. It's pretty sad, and it makes you wonder how many big groups are in the same situation, only being successful as long as they don't make one big fumble.
Itzy has a very solid and large core fanbase idk why you think that losing main public appeal means you aren’t successful anymore? They’re still getting wins on songs, they have full crowds at their tour stops, they’re getting millions of views on mvs without any ads and minimal promotion from their division. A loyal and strong fanbase years into the game with so many more groups around now for people to stan is much more valuable than being the flavor of the month, because it means longevity, even if their “success” isn’t those huge numbers they had at debut.
I got into kpop in the wake of all this. One of the first kpop songs I ever listened to was Blah Blah Blah (which I know is a Japanese single, but it bridged the gap for me from my jpop music to a kpop group). I remember falling in love with their mvs and the girls and they were one of the first groups I really found myself stanning. I loved Sneakers and Domino. And I can distinctly remember scrolling TH-cam shorts and seeing a bunch of hate for the song, and the group themselves, and I didn’t understand it at all. Especially after seeing how immensely successful Itzy was with previous comebacks. It’s been really tough as a fan to see them go through comeback after comeback of good music and good dancing, only for people to continue to dislike them over something that happened literally two years ago. I hate how one comeback can kill a group, even if followed by masterpieces like Cheshire and Born to Be.
I've never quite got the hate trains for songs You don't like - you don't listen You can support a favourite group differently too if the comeback is a miss for you Why hate it?
I love your Kpop content it’s really refreshing and you take really good angles exploring lots of different possibilities. As a huge MIDZY since day 1 of ITZY debut I think this is one of the best discourse I’ve seen about their “downfall” and I couldn’t agree more with the points you said. I love ITZY and their most recent album Born To Be was so good. Im a Lia bias so Im also so happy to see she has returned and will be on the next album. And yes Let’s continue to promote and support them always!
I used to love this song when it came out lol, but at the time i had only been a kpop fan for around 7 months, so i wasnt completely familiar with the differences between the concept photos
I was a midzy during that time still i really liked sneakers but the hate train was so long thats the only thing i rememberd during that era itzy didint deserve all of that the one thing i will say is the way JYPE promoted it
I remember the initial teasers coming out snd just thinkiing "damn these are a lot of teasers, just release the song already". Then the whole 180 with the more bright teasers and people saying the preview sounding like a skechers commercial 😭 i am here for the MUSIC and I've always given itzy grace with their music because their music always grows on me, i do not care about concept or style of the music. However as a sneakers defender, reliving this situation made me realize again why it's not a fan favorite and i resent itzy's team for setting them up like this, and it's unfortunate that the sneakers era kinda put stain on their career thats still seen today
One key thing you missed out was a snippet of the chorus was released (or leaked idk exactly) on tiktok i believe before any of the mv teasers or sneaker-esque concept photos came out and it made the rounds. That's why the whole "prank" theory actually started, because at that point we hadn't seen anything that would point to the song sounding anything like that and people hated it so much they refused to believe it was real.
Genuinely, if the scheduler was for the comeback and for the tour, then the teasers may be for the tour(I've seen their merch for this tour, and it's has exactly the same vibe as the first minimalictic teasers). And yeah, I hope Itzy will be remembered as the «one of groups who ruled fourth generation» kind of thing.
The way waiting for your videos became a weekly routine 💗💗 btw with your calming voice and delivery i think you should try doing podcasts or storytimes
the tiktok was what pushed midzys over into delulu theory land cuz why did jyp decide to spoil the entire chorus in some random low budget tiktok?? and it wasn’t just that one tiktok, they each had individual tiktoks doing random shit that had no relation to the album😭
tbh i loved sneakers when it first came out but tbh i did get tired of it bc i was listening to it too much but it was exactly what i'd expect from itzy either way tbh also can you make a video about kep1er? i think now is the perfect time for it since they just had 2 members leave and those 2 members are already about to redebut in another group in september
I would say that their album photos and their mv's has always been different to each other while being on the same theme. Look at for instance the photoshoot for Mafia and then what the mv was.
I feel like kill my doubt was the same. What does boxing having to do with cake. Feel like their team is really bad at concepts for albums. They do still talk about self love and stuff. Apparently they have a new team so hopefully they can fix that
Wow you look so sweet in this video. Beautiful. Love your videos, I love your opinions and the way you speak. And when you call out people for their bullsht behaviour. 💕
i'd love to hear you talk about Aespa! they were the first kpop band (other than blackpink) who really got me into stanning a group. they seemed so unique and the 4 members themselves are also really interesting on their own -- not to mention naevis and the whole ai concept!
sneakers was the first itzy song i ever heard (and it was because i first heard it in a mob psycho 100 edit, because of course i did 😭) and i genuinely enjoyed it. i didn’t even know about the whole discourse surrounding it, i just thought it sounded fun and cute so i liked it. now that i’m becoming a midzy, i will say that i understand where the disappointment stems from but it isn’t the worst song i’ve ever heard so i don’t really care.
I didn't even know people hated Sneakers 😭 I didnt touch the comment section and all, when I had my first listen, I loved it honestly. It was stuck in my head during my NAPFA- 😭
I have made my partner listen to Sneakers by ITZY without the promotional pictures, he actually likes it! I was so happy to hear him loving the song as I told him it was ITZY's most hated the songs
And I like "Put my sneakers on" and "boys like you". I thought this girlgroup ain't that bad and got into Itzy's music a bit more than before (at least heard all of their title tracks). 💀 I think human makes mistakes. Artists, composers, producers are humans too and they will not always crank good music. It's okay to be very disappointed for various reasons and not like a song. But that is not a ticket to say Itzy fell off or they're now bad. Not to mention some fans spamming "it's bad" and some youtubers cranking videos as if people should be doing something more than ignoring bad music (according to them). There's no need to be loud and hateful about it. It happens. Ngl, this kind of hate convinced me to take Itzy more seriously because what most of the fans hate is not even worth hating in k-pop sphere.
Sneakers definitely wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. I think a lot of people were bitter and blind sighted that Itzy wasn’t doing a new elegant concept or teen crush concept (like Wannabe or Dalla 2x). I also think the expectations for Itzy were just super high after Dalla 2x, the song was just too good and hard to live up to.
It would be great if you could do a video like this abt aespa and their hate train from around the savage to girls era! I think that also was a heavy hate train especially against gigi aswell
I didn't like sneakers at first but after I few listens I got it it's fun and boys like you is fun too I heard them sing both live everyone got so hyped even my husband was into it i really like songs like Cake too i think its the style they do best fun and upbeat isn't something every group can do as well as they do
Noo like i used to be a midzy during not shy and loco era and then sneakers came out😭 I didn't even hate the song but the massive amount of hate is soo crazyy😭 like befr And then i stopped stanning them and yet i still listen to them so much plsu i abs LOVED the born to be era and im prob gonna stan then again!!💖
You should Stan them again ha if you want (: they came out with a new Japanese song called algorithm... Maybe that might interest you into becoming a midzy again.
i just happened to get into kpop in may 2022 and itzy caught my attention, so i was beginning to stan them, they were my first kpop group. sneakers was the worst comeback to witness as my first, honestly. i still hate it, i felt deceived, betrayed, you name it. left an awful aftertaste and gradually left itzy fandom. and i'm really sorry cuz i know the girls can be 4th gen leaders but for some reason they can't. cheshire was a good release that didn't get enough attention, then they released cake, where they completely lost me TO ME it feels like their music is going downhill or just stuck in 2019-2020 no hate to girls, i really want to love them and wish them all the best, but jyp gotta do smth... 😭
Cute concept and elegant just don't mix well. Cute and girl crush mix in teen crush kinda but idk. Maybe it's the song. Wasn't my thing. IVE did Baddie and Kitch and some people aren't fond in changes of sound, didn't like those 2. IVE fits girl crush - the rappers and Wony fit it.
My opinion on sneakers as a midzy who "comeback" to follow k-pop around the middle of 2022 and turned in a midzy on cheshire era i didn't quite catch the itzy hate train but a part of it, i wasnt that much fan of sneakers but i didnt threw hate at them of course - but also i didn't used to listen to it Until o listen on a random playlist (and i was busy playing so i couldnt skip) and i realized wasnt that bad, it was fun, actually fun and it made me smile yes, it's not a dark royal checkcame concept, it's not a wannabe 2, it's a simple summer comeback, a fun k-pop songs and does it's jobs I feel bad for the girls, JypE "played" with them in a way by use a dark concept and then post a summer song, they didnt deserve the hate train that came from it I hope that now that ot5 is back, their next comeback will be properly released and that please the fans (since some midzys boycotted the album born to be because it was ot4) I hope the best for these 5 girls, and i hope they keep shining
I think the concept videos and teasers of the royal girl crush concept was hyping everyone up and then sneakers dropped was the complete opposite. In my opinion, it sounded like something for a commercial or back-to-school advertisement... it sounded very generic and more suitable for children.
The other tracks on Checkmate are great! Sneakers I don't like because the lyrics and sound feel like a step down in maturity compared to Loco. If it was released say after Not Shy I don't think it would be hugely hated.
I wanna mention how sneakers was released after loco and how loco was kinda considered a different song from itzy it was a more mature side of itzy or more girl crush rather than teen crush and everyone loved it but releasing sneakers right after everyone was convinced that itzy gonna release more girl crush songs or more mature music was so disappointing
I kinda wanna see a video about what was happening at YG between the Blackpink to Babymonster period but I don't know how much can be found out about this.
Here me out. They could have done a colllab with a sneaker company Ike converse, but make stylish and elegant sneakers that would’ve literally been the best concept teaser ever❤
Why does that sound cool. Unfortunately Itzy team isn't really good at creative stuff. Heard they got new staff so hopefully they make cool ideas like this
Till this day I will never understand what prompted jyp to do this, they set up this girls so bad 😭😭😭 I remember being moots with some midzys during this era and 2 of them privated and 1 deleted the account bruh.......
i agree that a lot of itzy songs are more of a "grow on you" kind of songs (like "not shy" for me), that said as a midzy i dont always like all their songs (which iis fine) and sneakers was one of the ones i disliked, not hated, but it was one of the more... boring? songs, like easy listening kind of song? (personal pref!) but like, it's not a bad song??? i agree that the hate train they got from thiis was so unwarranted??? i wonder if there was a way for their marketing to be better, bc i rememberd at thee time i was so confused i thought the royal concept was like, for their tour/cconcert (happening at the same time) THAT SAID, i feel like the royal concept, any royal concept itzy would do would be 1. expected to happen, and 2. def not gonna be the normal royal concept. like this is the girl group whose ending pose is them crowning each otheer or themselves. royalty=being me has always been part of their identity? if anythiing the sneakers mv probably embodies the itzy group identity concept whatever the best? i wonder if a more gradual reveal in the marketing would've made sneakers comeback better. instead of royal royal royal, boom 90s aesthetics whiplash, it got something more of like, what u said, girl ripping off their crown, or maybe even a set of photos of royal portrait vibe pix, with the last photo showing a "behind the scenes" ish photo, w here it's shown that instead of fancy heals they're wearing sneakers, or like under all that big floofy d ress t hey're wearing sporty sweatpants oor something.
I think hate for that itzy comeback get's because concept teaser was royalty and they just get something different. If firstly would go sneakers concept i think the hate were not as big as they get. Fans and non fans was ready for something else and that's a point.

Could you talk about the phenomenon of liking only a few songs from a group because they were figuring out their genre, or had a one off and never came back to it? Examples: I like Loco and None of my Business by ITZY but after WANNABE their music took a direction into unlistenable otherwise. Stacy Girls, their debut was their best song and the closest they had to it was “Beautiful Monster” since. Red Velvet: Russian Roulette and Picaboo were one offs that were good but not their constant thing. NMIXX debut songs were a nice thing and then after Dice they are being confusing in their song direction. Run for roses is good tho. Blackpink after Ddu Ddu is in a different direction Twice Cry for me was soo good but their latest songs are strange I could go on. Also another topic: required rap in every song. To a point that a rap-less kpop song is a unicorn 😭
ngl I did not like sneakers, it did not fit into their concept and felt like a filler but the hate train was crazyyyy people who didn’t like klaxon and queencard prolly hate this song too, people cannot hv fun these days

Also Boys Like You is my 3rd or 4th fave Itzy song after Not Shy, Wannabe and Icy 💜
i'm a big fan of itzy and i love your HERstory idea. yes more please and thank you 💜
I used to love this song when it came out lol, but at the time i had only been a kpop fan for around 7 months, so i wasnt completely familiar with the differences between the concept photos
jyp should have kept it a prank, if he actually went along with it oh man checkmate could have been amazing
Sneakers on stage is awesome.
I was a midzy during that time still i really liked sneakers but the hate train was so long thats the only thing i rememberd during that era itzy didint deserve all of that the one thing i will say is the way JYPE promoted it
Could you talk about cherry bullet? I think their situation is really interesting
I’m writing that one down 💕💕
I love being a mitzy and im so sad about their popularity drop . But i genuinely loved born to be and untouchable❤
However as a sneakers defender, reliving this situation made me realize again why it's not a fan favorite and i resent itzy's team for setting them up like this, and it's unfortunate that the sneakers era kinda put stain on their career thats still seen today
its sad this song was the song in my playlist without knowing it was kpop 2 yrs later after people a kpop stan
With all honesty I loved Sneakers from when it was released and the whole album tbh
One key thing you missed out was a snippet of the chorus was released (or leaked idk exactly) on tiktok i believe before any of the mv teasers or sneaker-esque concept photos came out and it made the rounds. That's why the whole "prank" theory actually started, because at that point we hadn't seen anything that would point to the song sounding anything like that and people hated it so much they refused to believe it was real.
as a fellow sneakers enjoyer, the slander was not it
Im a boygroup stan and i barely know anything about most girl groups but please continue this series its so interesting and i love your content 💗💗
id love to hear you talk about loona in this series❤
🙌🙌🙌Yayaya thank you for the new video
Thank you for watching 🎀💕
Genuinely, if the scheduler was for the comeback and for the tour, then the teasers may be for the tour(I've seen their merch for this tour, and it's has exactly the same vibe as the first minimalictic teasers).
And yeah, I hope Itzy will be remembered as the «one of groups who ruled fourth generation» kind of thing.
can't wait for the hybe vs mhj dispute to be here one day lol
The way waiting for your videos became a weekly routine 💗💗
btw with your calming voice and delivery i think you should try doing podcasts or storytimes
the tiktok was what pushed midzys over into delulu theory land cuz why did jyp decide to spoil the entire chorus in some random low budget tiktok??
and it wasn’t just that one tiktok, they each had individual tiktoks doing random shit that had no relation to the album😭
tbh i loved sneakers when it first came out but tbh i did get tired of it bc i was listening to it too much but it was exactly what i'd expect from itzy either way tbh also can you make a video about kep1er? i think now is the perfect time for it since they just had 2 members leave and those 2 members are already about to redebut in another group in september
Something about ur accent is tickling my brain❤ And I love the way u show ur points...❤ really glad I found ur channel❤😊
Apparently they have a new team so hopefully they can fix that
YOU LOOKS SO PRETTY IN THE VIDEO WHAT
I really loved sneakers and it’s actually my favorite itzy song🤭
Hey gurlie. Could you make a video about the le sserafim documentary? I want to hear your thoughts about it :))

Ahhh hello my love~ 🎀
I love Sneakers and is my favorite music of Itzy 💥💥💥
I didn't even know people hated Sneakers 😭
I didnt touch the comment section and all, when I had my first listen, I loved it honestly.
It was stuck in my head during my NAPFA- 😭
There people liking sneakers theres people bashing sneakers then there is me who staned itzy because of sneakers
Not really related to this series but kinda, can u talk about WJSN, Everglow, or Unis?
I’ll write them down 😉
I might be the odd one out, but I still consider Sneakers to be ITZY's best title track ever since its release.
I have made my partner listen to Sneakers by ITZY without the promotional pictures, he actually likes it! I was so happy to hear him loving the song as I told him it was ITZY's most hated the songs
I enjoy this series! This may be a big ask but would you ever consider a "Lets watch" series of the survival shows that carries this leval of analysis
And I like "Put my sneakers on" and "boys like you". I thought this girlgroup ain't that bad and got into Itzy's music a bit more than before (at least heard all of their title tracks). 💀
I think human makes mistakes.
I didn't like sneakers at first but after I few listens I got it it's fun and boys like you is fun too I heard them sing both live everyone got so hyped even my husband was into it i really like songs like Cake too i think its the style they do best fun and upbeat isn't something every group can do as well as they do
Noo like i used to be a midzy during not shy and loco era and then sneakers came out😭 I didn't even hate the song but the massive amount of hate is soo crazyy😭 like befr
And then i stopped stanning them and yet i still listen to them so much plsu i abs LOVED the born to be era and im prob gonna stan then again!!💖
You should Stan them again ha if you want (: they came out with a new Japanese song called algorithm... Maybe that might interest you into becoming a midzy again.
i just happened to get into kpop in may 2022 and itzy caught my attention, so i was beginning to stan them, they were my first kpop group. sneakers was the worst comeback to witness as my first, honestly. i still hate it, i felt deceived, betrayed, you name it. left an awful aftertaste and gradually left itzy fandom. and i'm really sorry cuz i know the girls can be 4th gen leaders but for some reason they can't. cheshire was a good release that didn't get enough attention, then they released cake, where they completely lost me
TO ME it feels like their music is going downhill or just stuck in 2019-2020
no hate to girls, i really want to love them and wish them all the best, but jyp gotta do smth...
My opinion on sneakers as a midzy who "comeback" to follow k-pop around the middle of 2022 and turned in a midzy on cheshire era
i didn't quite catch the itzy hate train but a part of it, i wasnt that much fan of sneakers but i didnt threw hate at them of course - but also i didn't used to listen to it
Until o listen on a random playlist (and i was busy playing so i couldnt skip) and i realized wasnt that bad, it was fun, actually fun and it made me smile
yes, it's not a dark royal checkcame concept, it's not a wannabe 2, it's a simple summer comeback, a fun k-pop songs and does it's jobs
I feel bad for the girls, JypE "played" with them in a way by use a dark concept and then post a summer song, they didnt deserve the hate train that came from it
I hope that now that ot5 is back, their next comeback will be properly released and that please the fans (since some midzys boycotted the album born to be because it was ot4)
I hope the best for these 5 girls, and i hope they keep shining
love your videos so much!!
I think the concept videos and teasers of the royal girl crush concept was hyping everyone up and then sneakers dropped was the complete opposite. In my opinion, it sounded like something for a commercial or back-to-school advertisement... it sounded very generic and more suitable for children.
If you can I'd love to see you cover 9muses and the fact that they had fire music but they stayed nugu
Oh could you please talk about the momoland hate train, You are so majestic btw love you
Then when they released cheshire a few months later ppl still hated even tho it was a good song
13:16 i think that everglow, clc have a potential for a herstory video, maybe nmixx, red velvet also?
Oooo everglow and clc could be good 🤔 I think red velvet adding an extra member and the hate that came with it could be a good video
@@Natasha.Louisee omg you replied💖💖💖 Ive never commented before but im watching you since you had 3k subs and I watched all your videos, I'm just always so happy when you post, I'm gonna comment more so your videos reach more audience immmaaa faaaan
@@yellew6246 awww hello~ thank you for watching me and thank you for commenting 🎀💕 you’re so cute and sweet, I hope I make good enough videos for you to stick around even longer!!! Again, thank you 💕✨
honestly I think their weakest release is Born To Be, I'm not a fan of the song itself and I feel like all the songs are missing Lia's vocals, I loooove Untouchable tho it goes hard
I loved sneakers! But the same kind of thing is happening to StayC now with Cheecky Icy Thing.. Their trailer got people so excited, but they find the song a bit disappointing :(
The hate they got was ridiculous and i don't even like sneakers or boys like you
Could you talk about the phenomenon of liking only a few songs from a group because they were figuring out their genre, or had a one off and never came back to it?
Examples:
I like Loco and None of my Business by ITZY but after WANNABE their music took a direction into unlistenable otherwise.
Blackpink after Ddu Ddu is in a different direction
Twice Cry for me was soo good but their latest songs are strange
I could go on.
Also another topic: required rap in every song. To a point that a rap-less kpop song is a unicorn 😭
ngl I did not like sneakers, it did not fit into their concept and felt like a filler but the hate train was crazyyyy
people who didn’t like klaxon and queencard prolly hate this song too, people cannot hv fun these days
This is a good idea, can you do the rise of NMIXX I think they were sorta one of the most hated groups to slowly getting more fans
I remember when the 1st tiktok teaser came out and I didn't like it. On twitter I saw the theories and I believe them. I was like oh cool that's so creative. Then the 2nd teaser came out and this time it got stuck in my head. I viewed it as a fun summer song and then boom I loved it right away. Their team isn't creative. I mean midzy don't like them. if there is a new team hopefully they're more creative. I mean they're posting covers! They never did that until Ryujin mentioned it.
