They drive me crazy too because settings on cameras may vary by genre. I shoot sports and I'm almost always on manual shutter, manual aperture, and auto ISO.

Digidirect is horrible in updating their stock on their website. They always have stuff that allow you to order that’s not available. Happened to me multiple times in the past.

Lumix GX9 and Olympus Pen F

Hi Grant, without IBIS the G100 cannot be used professionally for video. For stills there is no advantage towards the GX9, except you want to take selfies all the time. I recommend the GH6 or GH7 for all the work you have to do. Your LEICA lenses deserve an excellent camera body not a cheap plastic one.

The g100 is good for street photography even with the 16-32 kit or the 20mm. For that same price Pentax kf, k70

Had that set-up before my camera bag was stolen at the Rugby World Cup in Lyon, France last September Fantastic set up. Highly recommended Got the G9 now from the insurance money and I'm really happy, but I miss the small form factor of the G100

Bummer mate! I took a close look at that camera because of its compact size and video specs, and you can pick them up for around $300 here in the US. However what killed it for me was no IBIS, I Know camera's never had that in the past and worked just fine, but Im spoiled by my Olympus bodies with incredible IBIS! All good mate, move onto bigger and better things!

I have a GM5 which I use as an EDC camera (bringing it with me at work). I am thinking about upgrading it with the G100 because of the flipping screen. There were very good deals at MPB last month but I'd prefer a G100D so I will be waiting for one. There is not store selling the G100D in France (except expensive packages with 3 lenses when I only need a body). All cameras are available from online stores based in Germany. This is a strange commercial policy.

Perhaps I could interest you in a slightly used Canon M50? I throw in the kit lens !

I recently got the G100D with the kit lens and the grip for about $450 from B&H used in a very good condition. Maybe you can find one too if you are still interested.

I had it and sold it. There is 1 issue that nobody talks about. The read out speed. In that camera it was so slow that lot of my shots were screwed by it. Since it does not have any mechanical shutter there is no other way around it. And yes there is no IBIS. I think there are much better cameras like (lot of Olympus older cameras and so on). Cheers

GH6 !!! Great idea / choice man. I owned the GH4, the GH5, and loved them both.. But it wasn't until I got the GH6 that I said WOAH, this is the best GH Ive ever owned !!! It just looked great, and the stabilization was on RAILS !!! If I didn't get an S5ii, I am sure I would still be on the GH6 (but probably itching and eye'ing the GH7, lol.) Anyway, cant wait to see what you get or what you do with it when you get it.

So my guess was 100% right. Sorry to hear that. What I don’t understand is that the letter says that “it has been discontinued”. Maybe I don’t understand the definition of “open box” , but for me is that you have it or not. You are not discontinuing an open box. Maybe I am missing something…

As a wedding photographer I shoot aperture priority in good light unless I want a shutter speed effect. When the light goes dim I go to manual but I pretty much set to 1/200 and have auto iso enabled with TTL or I switch to full manual with manual flash depends on what I’m vibing at the moment.

If you have a GX 9 you dont need a bad g100.

You were right to post the video anyway. The store didn't make a good impression and your followers will see the disappointment in real time

I almost pulled the trigger on a g100 a year or two ago when I spotted one at clearance on Ted’s for $400 😮 …I think it might have been body only. Only mild regret. Already had an em10 ii and that was way better with ibis and faster flash sync on a similar sized body

Thanks for the review! I like that this lens still gives the 12mm option, vs the 14-140mm. But the 14-140 is smaller and lighter and still works really good! I think the 12-60mm being bigger and heavier than the 14-140mm is the only reason I don't pull the trigger on it. The kit lens is also practically the same size and weight as the 14-140mm, so the trade off still isn't there.

Anyone wanting to learn photography, cameras, and lenses should learn how to manually everything (i.e. exposure and focus.) But I understand that not all people want to do that. And that is okay by me. For my photography, it shoot mostly aperture priority. But that is often just me being out and about with one of my cameras. Depending on the conditions, I just set the camera to f4 or 5.6 and forget it. If I want/need to do something specific I will shoot manual. I very rarely shoot sports, but there one might shoot shutter priority. When I learned photography there was auto nothing (well, you had through the viewfinder light meter.) But that was over 50 years ago on an Olympus OM-1 with a 50mm f1.7 lens as my total kit. Now I have too many cameras and lenses. So, whateverfloatsyourboat. Peace.

I agree about the “pros shoot like this” message. However, I think that the semi-automatic modes can be used as educational steps for new photographers, to understand depth of field first and stopping action second, before trying to balance these two variables in manual mode.

Had the G100 3 times, but never loved it like I do my G85 and ny G9!

I’ve always found working with the exposure triangle to be quite fun, especially since mirrorless cameras allow you instantly to see the result.

Digidirect did that to me years ago with the GX9. Let me order it and then later told me it was discontinued and out of stock.

I just got the g85 and my next cam will be the gh6 as my official A-cam. Probably will be the last 2 cameras i get for the next 5-8 years lol. I'm just now upgrading from my Canon sl2 that i had for 3 years...

Take the refund and get some new glass!

Hey Grant! I only have 2, but my fav is my Olympus OMD-EM5. It is pocketable with a small lens and I love shooting street, life, architecture, and nature with it. It is a great everyday carry!

GH4, so simple to use, puts out a nice image, it even has a pop up flash

Thank you, Grant, for this thought-provoking impulse! - I am using different modes. My first camera in 1970, a Minolta SRT-101 had none of these modes. I am not a pro but a hobbyist. That means I am not taking photos every day like a full time photographer. When you want to say us, that you can optimize your photo in manual mode while you shoot, I would like to see any evidence. Show us a picture shot in manual mode and the same picture shot in A, S or P mode and convince us, that the results are much better. A photographers need probaly more training for shooting in manual mode. When you are speaking of JPGs right out of the cam you could be right. But with RAWs you have so many options to optimize your photo! So, please, a short demonstration! I know your video about this subject from 2022. I studied it again and again. It seems to be logic, but what do you mean with "full control"? What is so bad when somebody shoots in bracket mode and select the best exposure or use the exposure compensation dial? Why do you reduce the ISO from 200 (default) to 100? You never showed us the advantage of manual mode in your results.

Suggest you watch James Popsys video "The Manual Mode Killer" 1 month ago (also Roman Fox content) where he explains why he uses AP in conjunction with auto ISO AND selecting a minimum shutter speed which is exactly what I do. For most of the pics he takes, I take, and I suspect that you take; you dont need to select a specific shutter speed, but merely need to ensure its not slower than a given speed. This then allows you to spend more time observing the scene and less time fiddling with dials. But James can explain better than me. There may be some cameras that don't allow you to select this, but I know my G9, Oly E-M5 III does and so did my old GX9.
