The anticipation surrounding a potential Panasonic Lumix S1H Mark II is quite palpable among photography and videography enthusiasts.
If Panasonic follows its typical upgrade path, we can expect the S1H Mk II to be a significant step up from its predecessor, the Lumix S1H.
Here are some educated guesses on what features and improvements might be integrated into the new model:
- Sensor and Image Quality: Panasonic may introduce a new sensor with higher resolution or improved low-light performance. The S1H already boasts impressive video capabilities, but a new sensor could push the boundaries even further.
- Enhanced Autofocus: Autofocus has been a contentious issue for Panasonic in the past. The new model might feature improved autofocus algorithms and possibly phase-detection autofocus to compete more effectively with rivals.
- Video Capabilities: Given that the S1H is renowned for its video prowess, the Mk II might offer 8K recording, higher frame rates for 4K (like 120fps), and even more robust codecs for professional workflows. Expect advanced color science and perhaps even internal raw recording options.
- Build and Ergonomics: While the original S1H is already rugged and well-built, iterative improvements in ergonomics, weather sealing, and perhaps a slightly lighter body could be on the table.
- Connectivity and Usability: Enhanced connectivity options, such as faster Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and perhaps even 5G capabilities for instant content sharing, might be included. Improved menu systems and customizable buttons could also feature prominently.
- Battery Life: Better power efficiency and longer battery life are always welcome, especially for professionals who use the camera for extended shoots.
- AI and Computational Photography: Expect to see more AI-driven features, such as enhanced scene recognition, better HDR capabilities, and potentially even real-time effects and filters.
- Price Point: The new features will likely come at a premium, but Panasonic has always aimed to offer value for money, so the S1H Mk II will probably be competitively priced within the professional camera market.
If Panasonic releases the Lumix S1H Mark II, it will likely be a powerhouse camera, continuing to blur the lines between professional video and high-end photography. It will aim to set new standards in both fields, appealing to filmmakers, content creators, and photographers who demand the best from their gear.

    Hello everyone! I am a beginner who is into photography and want an under 1000aud camera. Hence, I have two options are G85 for 899aud (~611usd) and a G100 for 999aud (~679usd). I'm considering because the g100d is newer with an OLED EVF. However, the G85 has weather sealing, and IBIS. Moreover, I have a big hand, so I guess the small camera won't be good for handling. Therefore, I want to ask everyone opinions on this. Are the IQ and colour science on the new G100D worth over the weather-sealing and IBIS. Thank you everyone!!!

    Just ordered a used G9 on Amazon. I had one several years ago but sold it because I simply had too much camera gear and decided to stick with my FF Canon. I'm getting back into photography now that my kids are playing sports. I know the G9II has the better focusing system but I don't recall having any issues focusing with the G9 when I had it. Then again I wasn't shooting 10 and 11 year olds running around on the soccer and football fields. We shall see how it (and I) keeps up with the fast action with the 200mm f2.8 Panasonic lens mounted to it. I couldn't bring myself to pay close to $2k for the g9ii when I could get a used G9 for $500.

    Hey Grant, I've owned the EM1X for a couple of years now and I can't fault it. It's size and weight is comparable to a Canon 5D but it offers so many more useful features, not just gimmicks, but features that you will use on a daily basis. The sensor stabiliser is incredible and paired with OIS lenses its one of the best. Low light shooting is great thanks to the stabilisation, you can hand hold night shots at ISO 200-800 easily and if you use a tripod the sky's the limit. It was, and still is, an incredibly versatile camera in my opinion. If you do get the chance to buy one at a good price go for it! You won't regret it.

    Yss, you can improve it in post, but the image quality coming of the MFT is just not the same. We can argue and beat the dead horse over and over, full frame will have a much better low light performance straight out of the camera. On the GH7 or G9ii, there is visible noise at 3200 iso. On the R6ii same noise is maybe at 25000. Once you use a full frame and see how clean the low light images are you will be disappointed when using an MFT and have the same expectations.

    Panasonic might want to maximize the efficiency of their R&D. The price of a camera like G9m2 must be several times higher than the material cost, while the factor would be smaller for a GF-series camera. Since they would not have redundant manpower for M43 lineup anymore, it makes sense that they focus it on the most efficient product. It is not beautiful that G9m2 re-uses the housing of S5, but I hope Panasonic continues the M43 system at least this way. After all, they should do business not an art. If they stand strong in the camera market with their full-frame system, probably they would release a lightweight M43 camera.

    Thanks for this. A lot would be helpful for the GX8 as well. With older eyes, focus is a growing problem, so any tools along those lines are very useful. I don't use WB all that much, but I sometimes see some really lovely sunsets and find the colour temperature adjustments are really helpful then. I first came across this with my first digital camera, because I only had a concept of daylight/incandescent/fluoro from my film days. My wife and I set off on the Great Ocean Road, and, before we started out from Melbourne, over a week into the trip, she decided she did want a camera after all, so we got a fairly cheap Kodak from Hardly Normal. It always got better sunsets, of which there were lots of good ones in 2004, than my next model up, which fixed up the reds and yellows. Hers didn't bother trying, and caught the full splendour. I agree about the rule of thirds grid lines. They also help with keeping the camera level, something I struggle with if there are no guides. And I often find that the taslk of keeping the camera aligned almost subconsciously also has me lining up the composition as well, even if I forget that's what I should be thinking about. As I am of the" RTFM -- after everything else fails" kind, I'll rewatch this. Thanks!

  • @rudigerwolf9626
    @rudigerwolf9626 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Grant, I almost completely agree. I am fully invested in M4/3. 2 OM1 bodies, the 150-400, etc. So I love shooting M4/3. And I can definitely tell the difference between my FF Leica and OM1. Does it matter? No. And yes, modern software eliminates many historic trade offs. But the bit depth of the original file is limited by the sensor tech and can’t be compensated for in post. Not a problem, just is.

    I have used it on commercial shoots that need a lo-fi look for products and portraits. It does the job if you compose correctly without reframing to avoid pixel loss. Then again, any camera in a studio environment can do the job. It slightly lacks a bit of sharpness, which isn't lens related and tonal variation is not incredible, but it's great for flat, even lighting. I wouldn't use it for pictures that need high contrast.

  • @taratantara
    @taratantara 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    What makes it special is the LFV-1 viewfinder! I have mine with a vintage Canon 50mm 1.4 and some Oly lenses like the 45mm 1.8 and 30mm macro, it's incredibly versatile for day to day snapshots. The BW is not as premium as a Sigma DP, but the gritty aspect of the GF1 and small size makes it an enjoyable experience. Oh and it fires up 500x times faster than any Sigma DP camera…

    I have a full frame Nikon Z8 and an OM-1. The with right lenses OM-1 has 7.5 stops of stabilisation and the Nikon 5.5 stops. But the stabilisation on the Nikon is in a different class to my OM-1. Nikon's stabilisation is considerably better. This is very evident when comparing the OM-1 with the 300mm f4 plus's 1.4 Teleconverter vs the Z8 with 600mm f6.3 plus 1.4 Teleconverter. The Nikon is rock solid stable and the OM-1 is very jittery and better with a monopod. What is stated on paper about the stabilisation does not translate in real life. The colour graduation, saturation, bokeh and high ISO is much better on the Z8 full frame. I mainly use the OM-1 for macro and insect photography. It is also excellent for all photography. But full frame is better especially if you like shooting wide open.

    You talked me into a g7 and it has been a great second camera to my gh6. It is so lightweight. I used to own a gx8 and I like this camera more than the gx8 even though yes the gx8 was a great camera, but the weight, size and shape of the g7 is too good. I don’t need weather sealing so that makes its weight and size fantastic. Very good pictures out of the g7. Video is also very good if you are fairly stable with a lens that has its own stabilization, or on a tripod. Run and gun video with the g7 camera is a bad idea though. Gh6 handles that job very well.

    Hi Grant, hi oldschool photo friends, I do not leave comments very often. But I got my D90 because of your recommendation last year. It is still going strong and I use it for all purposes: family, sports, indoors, outdoors… paired it with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 on day 1 and it still is my favourite combo. I also use the Nikkor 18-200, the Tamron 17-50 2.8 and an my cheapest glass: A Sigma 70-300 macro, which I use for shooting sailing events. All in all I did not pay more than 300€ on my gear and I get fantastic results. We print photos in normal sizes and watch them on TV with family and friends. I started taking pictures when my first son was born ten years ago. Took my smartphone, stepped up to a Sony NEX 5R, then got my D90 and when I bought the Nikkor 18-200, I got a D200 for free. I shoot beautiful portraits and landscapes with it, but my grab’n go is the D90. Now, as kids sport events become faster and my daughter does gymnastics indoors, I think about the Tamron 70-200 2.8 and maybe a Nikon D7200. Nevertheless, the D90 will stay ready to shoot on my shelf, at this price tag my kids are allowed to take pictures with it. If it breaks, I can get a new one for the price of a half tank full. Thanks for your great videos, keep up new work on old stuff. Best wishes to you from Germany.

    I can't imagine what a video beast this camera would be..Myself--I'm probably more interested in a new S1RII myself. I just attended a landscape photo show and started to think of that Hi-res goodness.There have been a few S1Rsat good prices but I just bought a G9II and I'll have to recover from that. Congrats on the GH7 acquisition. Enjoy your sabbatical from posting-- we'll be watching for new content when you get back
