I am using the GX8 for eight years now, and I am very content with this cam. For videos I prefer the GX9 due to its better ibis. It is a shame that Panasonic has stopped this product line! We all want a GX8 M2!

NEVER FORGET THIS CAMERA! I carry it almost everyday and do the bulk of my street photography with it. While I like the flip up screen of the GX9 and it's IBIS, the GX8 just feels right in the hand and has a giant view finder.

Almost bought the GX8 but didn't want the flippy screen and learned that the GX8s suffer from shutter shock issues. Thanks for all the great Panny love Grant!

Hi Grant - thanks for this video! I am owner of GX8 (I choose to by it over GX9). What exactly make me to select GX8 were weather sealing, fully articulating display, excellent viewfinder and larger grip. All these things important for me - so they outweigh the removed anti-aliasing filter in GX9 (crisper pictures), fixed shutter shock and overall improvements. I do not regret - I using this camera and it is great!

I still have my GX8 and it's been brilliant. When I'm commuting I keep it in my bag and have got some amazing photos with it.

I have not used the GX8. I started with a GX7 and replaced it with a refurbished GX9. Recently I thought about buying a second body. On eBay I found Japanese dealers were selling the GX9 with the Japanese designation as a GX7 mk.3 and the GX80/85 as the GX7 mk. 2. I remember when the GX8 came out many reviews said that it wasn’t a logical step but a digression. Hence LUMIX released the GX80/85. The name variation based on European sales and North American sales.

Own the gx9 and bought it new. Love it. Bought a gx8 used. The gx8 had even better ergonomics than the gx9 but my copy suffered from the shutter shock issue. Such a shame because that was a much better camera than the gx9 in every way (weather sealed, evf, handling)

Hi Grant, I am glad that you mentioned the GX8, I haven’t watched your channel so long, so I didn’t know you had owned/used the GX8.
To me, as you mentioned , the GX8 seems to be the optimum model in the GX range, with Dual-IS, and weather sealing, but I have a G90/95, so I have an equivalent model, even if it isn’t rangefinder style, which is a look I prefer.
I do however feel that the Lumix cameras are a bit clinical, and soul-less. I also own a TZ90, which if I could only have 1 camera would be my top choice.
I tend reach for my Olympus/OM-System cameras (E-PL8,E-P7, OM-5), as they feel more satisfying to use. I often choose to take the TZ90, as an alternative to a longer than standard telephoto as it goes to 720mm (full-frame eqivalent) in a package that is lighter than an MFT lens of equivalent reach

I have owned both (several times) ...but since I don't do video... (anymore)...and for stills the flip down screen on the GX9 does it for me...The GX9 handles pretty much all my needs...Just wish Panasonic would reconsider making "rangefinder" m43 bodies again...There is always the Olympus EPL10 and EP7...Plus Sony seems to get it with their A7c and A7c (II) not to mention all their APSC models...But... my budget favored m43 for at least a decade....Cheers
PS. By the way...I do not understand why...but a clean low shutter used GX9 averages around 14000-1500 baht (Bangkok) (less than $500 USD)...So..thats good for me. The original A7c used goes for about 33000 baht ($1000). By the way...The Canon EOS RP (used with a mix of EF and RF glass) makes for quite a compact and awesome system. Some Sony and some Nikon products are actually made here (Thailand)...

I got a GX8 about a month ago. and loved it from the first photos. The front control wheel had come off but careful application of superglue is holding so far.
There was a family wedding at the end of the month and relatives out from the UK for the whole 4 weeks, so I have about 6GB of photos already! One shot of my daughter in law with the 25mm prime lens has stunning bokeh, something I hadn't really had top of mind before.
Along with that lens I also have the 45-150 kit lens which woeks fine, and a 135mm prime PK mount with an adaptor to have a play around with.
I find the flip out screen a bit awkward, but less awkward than the articulated/ flip down screen on my Sony DSLR, but love the EVF. And the control wheels are very well placed for use.
Although the camera body weighs around the same as my previous Sony, the entire combination is more comfortable to carry, even with the 135mm lens attached -- I think its body is machined from depleted Uranium -- though the lighter lenses really bring out its convenience.
I have found that the autofocus does occasionally go off for a smoko, so I do have about six really unfocussed shots in those gigabytes of first photos. I hope to get on top of that with more experience. On the other hand, shooting in really adverse lighting conditions a few times, the OIS enabled me to handhold without flash at 1/10 sec without a problem several times, and even slower, bracing the camera on a doorpost or something.
    A lovely camera!

GX8 is a neat camera for sure. There's just a lot of odd choices panasonic made with it that pushed me towards a GX85 instead when it was time to upgrade my GX7. I kinda wish they would have just put all the IBIS, shutter, and AF improvements from the GX85 in a GX8 MKII, and kept the weather sealing.

I bought a GF-7 last year for 200 € as a every day camera and as a backup for my OM-1. I love ist because it has a panoramic mode. But in bright sunlight the missing EVF is really a pain the (***beep***).

I also have GF8 which is GF7 with minor software update. This is so small so light that it could rival compact camera but you get micro four thirds interchangeable lenses capability. Pair with small lens like the kit lens 12-32mm or 14mm f2.5 or 20mm f1.7 and you get very compact EDC combo. 35-100mm f4 is also very compact lens for 70-200mm equivalent too. GF does not has EVF so it's a pain in bright sunlight but such a small camera I can't hate it. Panasonic does not release new model after GF10 which is a bit sad imagine Lumix S9 but change to m43 which could reduce size to around GF10 add PDAF and microphone jack that would sell very well with vlogger market.

How about the GX7? Please compare this with GX8 and GX9.
