Makes a lot of sense: gear collecting is a great hobby but is a different thing to being a photographer. I have three lenses and two camera bodies, and use all of them regularly.
After watching many videos of yours I brought a G85. For the past couple of years I was using my X100V to take everyday photos of my kids but wanted to tap into my small collection of lenses from my first iteration Olympus OMD EM-5 and pulled the trigger on a G85. I have since paired it with the 42.mm Summilux Nocticron and I am absolutely blown away with the colour science rendering with this rig. Even using my 15mm F1.7 or the 25mm f1.4 the image quality is phenomenal. I often swtich between the two cameras and I am constantly surprised with the output but in particular with G85 which punches so far above its weight relative to it's price. Highly recommend it to anyone!
@@grantrobertdavies if I wanted to "upgrade" what would you recommend? I only shoot stills (for now) so my preference is a model which is "better" at still photography? Happy to even look at "older" second hand models like some of the ones you have featured.
But your explanation made perfect sense and i agree with that methodology 100%. I did the same thing with my old canon rebel t2i and Panasonic fz300 to even get my g85. I even traded in my canon EF nifty fifty to get the Panasonic 25mm lens. So I'm all for trading to upgrade. Congrats on your new lens and looking forward to your upcoming gh6 content!!!
I used my G80 (the UK designation for the G85) all the time for the 4k crop 20 second thing (which I still think is a brilliant feature), but that wasn't enough to warrant keeping it. The Olympus E-M1 mkii is better at too many other things..... and one of them had to go.
After watching your channel for the past few months, I'm a little surprised you traded it in lol. Your videos helped me make the decision to buy it for myself lol... But I already know I'm going to get the GH6 to be my A cam in Q1 of 2025. Want to really step up my video quality, and I'm considering some Sirui cine lenses.
Question: why pick up the canon lens when the olympus 12-100 exists and it is one of the sharpest lenses in the MFT system? Thank you for the good content!
I am not unsubscribing because you traded in your G85. The G85 is indeed a very good camera. I would recommend it to anyone considering getting their first mirrorless camera. It was my first mirrorless camera moving from a Nikon D5600 DSLR. I still own it. Although, I probably should trade in or sell it since it's been quite a while since I have used it. I have too many cameras and lenses. I use my G9 and GH5II for photo and video, with my G95 for backup. The G100 is the everyday throw in my everyday bag, since I take a camera most everywhere I go. But I will probably keep my G85, just because. Peace.
I just picked up a g85 with a sigma lens for $250. Couldn't beat the deal
