@@willgreig8912 it still justifies every penny spent. The first event i shot with the Z8 and tamron 35mm f1.4, the image quality blew me away. The colours and exposures were nothing short of mystical!
I have the money to buy the camera I really want. Compared to a slightly more expensive car - just for fun or a motorcycle, cameras are a not that much expensive hobby. I stay with MFT on purpose. I keep the G9-II over the GH7 because I know that I would only play around with the additional features, test them but at the end I would only use the functions that are already in the G9-II and I enjoy the lower weight compared to the Gh6 I had used 1.5 years. The one lens is difficult. I would like to have the 10-25/1.7 if I'm limited to just one lens. But I prefer the smaller 12-60/2.8-4 when I have the 9mm/1.7, 12mm/1.4 and other small primes as backup for low light and wider angles.
I'd get another MFT, maybe G90. I love evrything about MFT format and not going back to larger ones. More lenses is nice too, like Oly 75/1.8, and a set of Sirui Nightwalker lenses. Nothing more to wish for.
i`m with you on that got a D90 i`ve had since they first came out love it. Retired now so no chance of a Z8 unless NIKON are feeling kind hearted lol. great content
At 78, if I follow family tradition, I will probably last another 7-10 years. I will not be a professional photographer, and I will go on having fun taking photos when I go for a walk, attend the grandkids' Book Week parades, photograph a community event to put photos in the church newsletter. If someone can suggest a Panasonic GX8 with a slightly shaved down body and bred so that it doesn't shed the front control wheel in moulting season, I would buy that, and probably lash out for a large aperture 12-60 (or thereabouts) zoom to complement the 45-150 and the fixed 25 I already have. That's my major issue with my current kit: it doesn't quite fit any of my jacket pockets. Incidentally, I am pleased to hear your proper pronunciation of "Nikon". Calling it "Nykon" seems to me in the same camp as calling the inhabitants of Tuscany "Eytalians". Fortunately we Australians grew out of that habit in about the early 1960s
If I could buy whatever camera and lens I wanted with price being no object - I honestly can say that I do not know. I have bought all of my current cameras (except for one) used. Maybe I would buy some Sony or Nikon full frame beast combo, but I haven't done the research. Right now, a G9II or GH7 with the 10-25mm f1.7 & 25-50mm f1.7 would be my immediate reaction choice. They are all certainly out of my price range. But I don't need them for what I do. I am always trolling MPB, KEH, and other sites for some bargain as I have incurable GAS. I guess I am a MFT Hobo.
Are we dreaming here? Or are we just talking about what’s out there now that we would like to have? If we’re dreaming, I would love a full frame camera at 33 megapixels about the size of the Olympus pen with interchangeable lens capability. The camera should have a proper grip, though and lightning, fast auto focus so that I can shoot wildlife as well as more discrete street photography. Now, if we’re talking about what already exist, honestly, I’m so happy with my Nikon Zf! I can put old vintage lenses on it and shoot fully Manuel all the way or I can slap my Tamron 150 to 500 and go shoot birds. It’s just a tad bit too heavy and for more discretion I choose the Panasonic GM5 or the GX9. ❤
I after years of shooting m4/3 only, now shoot m4/3 and FF. M4/3 has improved over the years in every spec except one, Image Quality. So now I shoot some FF. Ultimate camera. Take my EM1x and have a better sensor installed. I don't used 80% of what the EM1x will do. I don't need 30 frames per second, I don't need focus tracking , I don't need planes trains or birds. So I pay Sony to develop a better sensor and fit in into my EM1x, or that sensor into a pen f, now we are cooking with fire. Lol
Fortunately now that I'm older I was able to get my dream camera and lens, also for me it is the Nikon Z8 with the 24 -70 2.8s we definitely think alike on that!, It's an awesome rig, it makes the other cameras and lenses I have experienced look slow and clunky by comparison especially the DSLR's. I don't know where to begin describing what I like about it but coming from a Z7 it has a lot of improvements and there is not another camera and lens combo that I want , but like you say it is expensive , In Canada here they are maybe a little lower price ,hope you a will be able to get your dream also. It's fun to start with a dream .
I've got lots of 4/3 bodies, a couple of Micro Four-Thirds bodies, a Canon R5 and a Canon 1DX. Those pretty much handle my necessities. HOWEVER, I definitely want to try out a Z8 with that 600mm F4 TC VR at some point. But my dream camera would probably be the Hasselblad X2D with the 38mm F2.5 or the 28mm F2.5. But I've never been happy with just one lens or one body, so I'm sure I'd end up buying more.
you will think I am crazy, but in May I did this and I took Z8 + 50 1.2 + 85 1.2 + 135 1.8 Plena and in July I took the Z6 iii + 35mm 1.4 but the worst is that I had a whole lumix system and I still have... Panasonic S1R + 50 1.4 S Pro + 24-700 2.8 S pro + 70-200 2.8 S pro and finally July was the worst for me with the Panasonic S9 and the Fuji x100vi, I don't dare to total my equipment :D and I'm not a pro, I'm not rich... It's just for my personal pleasure. (i sold my Lumix S5ii, Z6, Zfc, Nikon D4, D700 and some optics 105 1.4E etc..) but wait, i still like using my Canon EOS 5D (i was a canonist before 1dmarkiii/iv/1dsmarkiii/5D/5DII/5DIII 35L 50L 85L 135L 70-200L)
a comment I left on another channel : To get both the Panasonic S9 and the Fuji X100Vi, despite the beauty of the X100Vi, my preference goes to the S9. Even though it lacks a viewfinder and the screen is not just a tilt but rather on a swivel, I use the S9 with the 45mm f/2.8, and the images are stunning. I had the S5M2 and sold it, and God knows how much I criticized the S9 when it first came out, yet today, I can only say good things about it! I was also a Micro Four Thirds user; I had the GX7, GX8, GX9, G9, and the magnificent 42.5mm 1.2 Nocticron. But truly, the S9 with the 45mm f/2.8 is so compact and changes the game, even though I have great gear at home: Z8/Z6III with 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2, 135mm f/1.8 Plena, S1R with 50mm f/1.4 S Pro, 24-70mm/70-200mm S Pro f/2.8. But as I write these lines, my heart goes to the S9. Maybe the Leica Q3 will win me over (though it’s bigger and heavier), but the price is obviously not the same. I say it's worth trying!
Ahem, money no object eh? May just as well go straight for the house of Leica, probably the SL3 paired with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH lens. Not their most expensive zoom, they have a 24-90, but its variable aperture, very big and heavy and twice the price. Everyone who has the 24-70 gives it 10/10. Z8 probably makes more sense, but I kind of got the hump with Nikon's corporate arrogance and sold off all my gear, except for a few choice ai vintage lenses;-)
Just get an OM1 and save a fortune.
Z8 is worth it. Trust me.
@@willgreig8912 the camera is worth a lot more than that.

If I could suddenly buy any camera and lens, I’d buy the OM System OM-1ii and the 150-400mm f/4.5.
If money were no option, my dream combo would be the GH7 with the Leica 25-50mm f1.7 lens !
I'm pretty happy with my Z8 and 24-120mm kebs
I already have my dream camera: Sony 7cii with 55mm 1.8. I’m not into videography and the size to performace of my combo is unbeatable.
I'd get another MFT, maybe G90. I love evrything about MFT format and not going back to larger ones.

For me, Leica M11 with 28mm f1.4 Summilux lens! I have an M2 from 1957 with 50mm f2.0 black Summicron lens from 1969 so this would be an update 🤣.
Just bought my Z8 and couldn’t be happier! Now I don’t walk around feeling “OG if I had just spent a little more.”

Cool topic. Never really thought about it. Maybe GFX 100 mkiii with a 35mm F3.5.
If money were no issue, something medium format, either a Fuji GFX or the Hasselblad 907x.

Well if money is no object I think I would need to go right to the ultimate and get me a JWSP
Just bought a Zf with the 40mm f/2se as a kit and ordered the 24-120 f4! Keeping my g9mii with pana 100-400 for wildlife🙂.
I choose to skip Nikon ... E-M1/OM 1 series have tougher build quality and same for Zuiko PRO glass
cool

What about the Nikon ZF?
Just bought one, wonderful!
Z50 II / 80 / 90
Hassleblad H6D with a Hassleblad macro lens
I’d go for the XH2 with 16-55mm
Sony A1 and Sony GM70-200 II or Tamron 35-150 2 - 2.8
Canon R1 and RF 100-300 f2.8.
I want a GFX 100 with an 80mm yong nuo lens
Juste un panasonic g9ii. 😂😊
I still have a D90 and D700
Definitely to big for street.
Dream big or go home:
Cannon EOS C70
Cannon 50mm f1.2
Have:
G9ii
Leica 42.5
