Can ATC wait until all runways are crossed and cleared before asking about gate numbers? This the second video I've seen where they ask about a gate at a critical phase where you don't need any extra distractions.

I can accept ATC is overworked and tired, but he's got to be more careful with students. He needs to tell his supv. or union rep he needs help before something serious occurs.

Obviously, the student was soloed prematurely! The instructor may need remedial training as well.

I thought she was going to jump out of the plane for a second there. She was utterly freaking out. If the ATC on duty didn't respond the way he did and showed any signs of impatience, this would have turned into a fatality. He was awesome. I wonder if she will fly again or figure she's had enough.

There was nothing wrong with the pilot's setup to enter left base for 23. It was a bit conservative but he is clearly low time. Yeah he was rattled and was missing readbacks, but the controller needs an attitude adjustment. Just made it worse.

I suspect she's not really cut out to be a pilot.

How do you not deal with your anxiety before getting behind the controls of a plane? She can barely describe to anyone what is going on in the plane.

The problem with really old people is that they have lots of money to buy fancy toys, but they don't have the cognitive ability to fly them. I've flown with a lot of 70+ year old private pilots. They all have fancy new panels in their planes and no idea how to use them. They also struggle with basic flying skills and get confused a lot. Picture Joe Biden trying to fly an airplane with a glass cockpit on an IFR flight plan.

She sounds very young and immature. I'm a dad to two daughters and I have a PPL. I coached both daughters to drive when they were 17 and, to be honest, it was a nightmare compared to my son. Girls at that age have poor control over their emotions, especially at that age. Boy's emotional intelligence and control is much more measured. It's purely biological. However, I question the wisdom of putting very young girls in control of aircraft especially given the need to be calm in stressful situations. Maybe the instructor didn't impress upon the student the absolute necessity to manage emotions and maybe procedures were not done to the point of muscle-memory action. I often see a rush to get pilots soloing, and it's often a huge mistake. Would I have encouraged my 17 and 18 year old daughters to learn to fly? Everyone is different, but in my case, absolutely not!

I think trainees must pass a psychological test and must be able to prove that they don’t break down or panic before setting foot on a solo flight.

Hi there - I was the pilot flying that day. I swear to the heavens that I had been working hard all day and had some gunk under my fingernails. I really just had been a little exhausted and it caused me to slur my speech. Funny thing, when I work hard and my fingernails are not clean, I slur the shit out of my words.

The controller did fuck up, but the controller doesn't really have an attitude problem here. The pilot is acting completely rationally, trying to have a conversation about the error. The controller is not ready to give the number, it takes a second, and that controller very well could have a few other things she was tracking. You guys that are saying the controller has an attitude seem a bit overzealous here. She fucked up, and she probably knows it, and it will all get handled.

Hi there - pilot for 46 years now. I find it best that the ATC not yell and scream. I may have questions or need to check over my shoulder to see what’s happening. Also, I need clarification why you want me to do a 360.

I’m a flight instructor. I’m really not happy that the pilot did not say “thank you” to the ATC. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. If I were the instructor, I would have hopped in my Porsche, driven out to the plane and yanked her pilots license for not being more prepared. She was an ungrateful little bitch.

I don't know how much more careful one can listen when it clearly sounds one way instead of the other. That's like when the boss tells you, "If you're not sure about something, ask,.." when, at the time, you were pretty sure.
