He clearly had no business flying at all. If he can’t understand staying out of the clouds and if he hasn’t briefed the corridor what is he doing there?! That’s an airspace bust just waiting to happen.
This one just boggles my mind. Flight into IMC without proper IFR training or clearance is one of the most frequent causes of aviation accidents, and he's doing it in one of the busiest airspaces in the country surrounded by mountains, and is clearly lost on even the proper VFR procedures.
Agree with you… this pilot was… well… not a very competent sounding pilot, and did not appear to be familiar with the SpecFlight Corridor… However… We have no indication that the reported ceiling was actual ceiling.
The controller should have demanded that he land back at Santa Monica immediately. This is exactly why I quit general aviation years ago. Nothing but idiots in the cockpit now. And ATC does little about it.
OMG, if I heard this as a controller, I would not let him takeoff. Wx, lack of understanding of air traffic, heavy accent. What a train wreck. Giving him vectors is a mistake.
Does SMO ATC have powers to order that guy out of the sky and alert SOCAL and others there is an out of control pilot literally "winging" his way through their sky's. There must be protocols for this. Shockingly incompetent, if mildly apperciative GA pilot there. Maybe he was adding to his solo hours, but he had no idea about airspace. How was he allowed to do that? (non pilot here)
Solo pilots can't use the corridor. Technically we can't order pilots to the ground except under very specific circumstances. Generally that would involve the military as well. I've heard way more incompetent sometimes daily lol. Edit: Solo Student pilots
DUDE -- THE FAA HAS TO BE STERNER ABOUT THIS ENGLISH LANGUAGE STANDARD ... How many of these do we need to hear? When one flies into an airliner the FAA bureaucrats will get off their lazy asses
Pilot had no business flying there. Props to TWR, super helpful.

The controller probably knew this guy would be a problem right at the start
hooooooly cow. This is the least competent comms I've ever heard. This guy shouldn't be driving a golf cart in that area, let alone a cirrus.
Telephone call SMO to SOCAL, watch out, there is an idiot coming your way.

I lost it when he asked for vectors to a VOR......
Probably needs vectors to the cockpit door!!!
I would love to hear his conversation with SoCal.
Does anyone else get so cringed out by these that they can't finish listening?
Wow, controller turned instructor.
Please explain how you maintain VFR at 3500 with a 1900’ ceiling? This guy is an accident waiting to happen!
Very nice of that controller.

Painful……😮
I’m not a pilot but I know enough to say this guy shouldn’t be flying.
More foriegn pilots who don't belong training here
Jaysus…

First clue for problems? Well, probably the accent.
