I went skydiving in Florida. After we pulled the chute, like 10 seconds later the jump instructor pats my arm and points down. There was a plane flying maybe 4-500 feet below us. I was too adrenaline’d out to really think about it. But later that day I was like “okay that definitely should not of happened.”
I hope it wasn’t the one at Cape Canaveral. If it wasn’t for first time tourists they would’ve been out of business years ago! They may be closed now. I haven’t been there, but heard the horror stories from first timers! There is a good DZ near Sebastian though!
@@ZaphodTHEBeeblebrox no. i was so terrified ive never considered doing it again. im happy i did it once, and also happy i didnt get hit by any planes.

As the pilot did with ATC & received no response, I come to the comments section with the same question. Does anyone know if the skydiver is okay? 🤷🏻♂️
It depends on the landing sight. I myself thought I was going to land on the runway once because wind conditions were just enough that they slowed me from going over into the landing area.
@KVW110 I would have figured that whoever was in charge of dropping skydivers, would take things like airfields and prevailing winds into consideration before shoving you out the door and yelling "Good luck!".
@@IN10THRC They do take that into account. But just like anything in life, there are a number of variables. The winds shift, human error-misjudging where we are, skill level of the sky diver, all of these factor in. Skydiving has a low fatality rate because of all the training and risk management built into it, but it's still a high risk endeavor. We are literally depending on our parachute and our skills to land safely and go home at night. Why do we do it tough? It's an absolute rush! P.S. We are statistically more likely to be hurt in a car crash or die at the hands of our doctor. But you won't see those stats on the news.
I fly put of here and hate the sky divers. They land in the middle of the field. And I’ve been saying, it is just a matter of time…you will be taxing and pass right by their retrieval vehicle parked next to the taxiway
Maybe we could make some gigantic blenders hundreds of feet tall that skydivers could aim for? That might increase their odds of survival since they might miss them.
I avoid Deland airport because of the crazy amount of student pilots doing touch and goes and all the skydivers ! I'm surprised there hasn't been more accidents. I do go there occasional because they have a nice airport restaurant.
Pretty sure this text is all wrong. He said “he flew across the runway during our takeoff roll”. Sounds to me like during takeoff roll a skydiver was just about to land and struck his left wing
According to video description "The skydiver sustained unknown injuries". Does this mean we don't know if the skydiver was injured, killed, or unharmed? Or does it mean they sustained injuries but survived?
How: Duffus takes off unaware the airport he's at is a world-famous skydiving center with jumps every 30-45mins. Gotta LOOK UP & AROUND & use the radio. Error: Pilot situational awareness. ... Error: Pilot - Uncontrolled Airport Safety operations protocol Why: American Flight Training & Evaluation is woefully inadequate & gets more inadequate with each passing year. Zero oversight & zero fucks given by the FAA.
Google's full of skydiver fatalities at this airport over the years, but there's nothing about this one. Is this the world's deadliest airport for skydivers?
His plane isn’t equipped with a parking break so he can’t just hover it over his landing spot and drop it down. He’s circling back around to land. It’s typically not advised for a person to loiter on an active runway (see exhibit a). But if the loiterer did decide to leave his plane on the runway to, he’ll still get killed but at least he’ll find solace knowing the pilot is going to be in a smoldering wreck when he hits your plane 50’ down the runway
@@momitsoregano3810 Oh come on. You circle back, you land, and you taxi off of the runway and you check on the hit diver. It's an uncontrolled airport.

Sounds like just aircraft talking to each other on CTAF. No tower at that airport.
@RetreadPhoto Savage. But 100% correct. 🙏🏼
@RetreadPhoto Aviate, Navigate, Communicate!
The hardest part about skydiving is the ground
If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving’s not for you.
Yeah. Unlike regular diving, the ground don't splash-you do.
Their communications etiquette is interesting. 😅
They are trained in the Wendy's drive-thru discipline of aircraft communications.
What on God's green earth was a skydiver doing anywhere near an active runway???

When shy diving is active, everyone at the field should know. TFR (temporary flight restriction) ACTIVE. Wish we knew the rest of the story.

He is saying the diver was not vertically above the runway, as the diver was descending he flew horizontally across the runway.
A little bit of damage?
I'm not a native speaker but he clearly said "a good bit of damage."
According to video description "The skydiver sustained unknown injuries". Does this mean we don't know if the skydiver was injured, killed, or unharmed? Or does it mean they sustained injuries but survived?
Typically it means that the victim sustained survivable injuries but that the exact details of the injury/injuries were not released to the public

Fly in Deland and you'll know. Had a truck cross my RW while I was taking off. It's the wild west over there.
Bad coordination
Of course happens in my county
Not really ATC transmissions. DeLand Airport (DED) does not have a control tower.

Perris, Deland isn't even 3rd
That’s exactly why they are called skydivers

Not a lot of,concern for the jumper I have to say. I hope he or she is okay.
