Sculpting 101 - 1/12 figure leather belt with polymer clay
Welcome back to my channel!
In this video we create a 1:12 leather belt from scratch using Fimo Leather Polymer Clay.
I choose this type of clay because of it’s flexibility and the fact that it really looks like fabric if you let it rest for a second after tooling it to shape.
This clay is another MVP in my toolbox definitely. I use it for accesories and hardware and also in every place my sculpted pieces are in touch with articulations.

Welcome to the last episode of the series. I will guide you through my hair drafting and detailing process. It is kind of a personal experience since you will find shapes that you like in your directional lines and reinforce them. Definitely. I’m learning through this TH-cam experience too. Sometimes it’s hard to put out difficult content without making hours long videos. I also noticed videos with easier topics gather more attention and I will try to make shorter and to the point videos instead of recording full builds.

      If it had to fit like a puzzle why would we bother cutting it in pieces? The two seams have the same perimeter or length but different shape.

Understand that there are no resources showing this kind of insights on how to do things, that with little practice, are fairly easy and accessible to anybody. There aren’t resources with free patterns for the wide variety of body blanks that we have nowadays either. The method has flaws? Maybe, but clothing designers study and practice for years and this is a 10 minute video. But it definitely is worthy and works. Feel free to check my work on Instagram, or Facebook groups. Instead of sewing would flexible fabric glues or iron on adhesive tapes work well?

    • @wilcapoeira
      @wilcapoeira ปีที่แล้ว

      I use fabric glue a lot. But on jumpsuits which I already cut quite fit and rely on their elasticity to be skin tight, I feel that a thread secures things better. On high stress points (crotch, arms and torso) I would use thread 100%. The sleeve end, I simply glue it 😊

    • @wilcapoeira
      @wilcapoeira ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent used one for 1:12. I got a good one in storage, but some seams are too small to bother using it. Where I can’t beat a sewing machine is at finish quality, but I rarely leave thread exposed on these spandex suits. If you are making a jacket that will have exposed seams, hand stitching is hard work.

    I want to make a seamless neck skin tight bodysuit for 1/6 and 1/12 action figures. The hot toys Spiderman sewing pattern is similar to your black panther one, but with fabric that covers the neck without any seams on the front. Hot toys Spiderman patterns have the seams go down the left and right sides of the neck then down the back of the shoulder blades and the seams end in the armpit area. Could you please make a tutorial on how to make the hot toys style sewing pattern or give suggestions on how to make this pattern for my action figure?

    • @wilcapoeira
      @wilcapoeira ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, basically, yo do a mummy out of your figure with this plastic film and painters tape trick and draw those seams that you described from HotToys Spiderman on top of the painters tape. Then you go with your scissors over the painted seams and you will have your pattern. Second topic is making it skin tight. On this scale, 1/16th of an inch or a millimiter, is like going up one size in your human clothes. The only reliable way I found to mail my suits is test fitting often. Sometimes I would even test fit 3-4 times when doing just a leg seam. The reasons for this are that I do only one copy of each piece, I usually switch bodies in my builds and each fabric has a level of elasticity. If I had to do 100 copies of something I would unravel a fitting suit and getting a pattern out of it. Then I wouldn’t feel the need of the back and forth fitting. I hope you get my points

    • @Augnalius
      @Augnalius ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wilcapoeira Thanks for the reply. In summary, I think you mean 1. tape mummy and make 1st template out of it. 2. Then trace template onto fabric. 3. Then cut and sew fabric 4. Next hem/adjust/ re-sew in areas that need to be tighter. 5. After the clothing fits right, undo the stitching and use that clothing fabric to trace a new template onto cardboard,. 6. Then use this new template as the final template for all of your 100 + sewing copies ?

      It is faux leather. Same material used in trunks, boots, gloves, partially on the head and cape 😬

      I don’t have any hood tutorial yet. I started recording a hooded cape for my mouse Mythic Legions but haven’t completed that yet 😮‍💨

    Wow you just opened endless possibilities for me. I was searching if I can create think flexible items with polymer clay. One question you didn’t show at what temperature you baked this belt? Also is this belt strong enough.

      Right!!!?? Options are endless ☺️ I bake it at the recommended temp. which is 130C if I’m not mistaken, little higher than regular Fimo or Sculpey. You can check out CosClay by Monster makers also. It was not yet available when I started using Fimo leather so.. got used to this one. It’s durable enough. Won’t break on your figure but don’t try to stretch test it with tools. I’ve been using it for client work for more than a year and still got no complains at all re. durability. Thank you for commenting mate and good luck!!

      Can I bake them on the action figures? It will melt my figures though.

      @@muneeb2010 it depends on the body really. There are pieces I couldn’t mold and ultimately I casted them in the body itself. But I don’t recommend it cause of several factors: - First you bake them and plastics produce toxic stuff. Clay does too if you burn it tho. But I do this in my kitchen oven and don’t trust it. - You can damage your figures - Two part epoxi clays are way better suited for on body sculpting, with the drawback that you will need to paint it after it cures. But they are air curing materials that do not require heat. I hope that helps, but I haven’t tried out all the possibilities and encourage you to experiment, have fun… and share your results!

      @@wilcapoeira you are absolutely right. I can’t risk bodies burning. I had placed an order for two part epoxy like last month from Ali express but it hasn’t come yet. I love customising action figures I’m working on a barbarian hunter action figure. I feel like you can’t make a good figure with only one type of material.
