  • Hi!
In this chapter we review the different painting techniques I use over my clay before baking it.
In this way, color is permanent after the clay is cured in the oven.
The results are fantastic, specially when using translucent clay in your mixes for skin.
I hope you find this interesting!
    Thank you!

How long did this whole process take? It feels like days but probably hours?

I would say each chapter took me 2-3x the time you see in the videos. Everytime I don’t talk the video was speed up and I cut some pieces that don’t show anything new to you guys.
The head alone took me a week working on my free time. I also make sure I fix all the defects caused by the angle I work in while recording, and that happens off camera.
So… it should be between 10 and 15 hours ☺️
      Thank you!!!

I'm not sure but how different are water colors from acrylic paint? Could you use acrylic paint as a prebake color?

I have never tried, but acrylics have more stuff than just pigments and the cellulose base that watercolors/gouache have.
Apart from that, the cool part of this technique is the transparency and quality of the washes in the finished model. It requires a good base color that you need to achieve with clay mixes.
I may try and let you know, but at this point, and given how inexpensive gouache is (plus I already used them in regular paintings and I’m familiar with mixing, water to color ratio etc) I don’t see any benefit in using my acrylics for this.
      Thank you!
